We found the hotel to be okay, not great or something to be delighted about. The room was spacious, linen was good and bathroom was pretty good. But there was hardly any storage space in the room. There was just an open space with 10 hangers and just one drawer. We booked the hotel thinking there would be views towards Arthur’s seat but our window looked into the building next door. We are vegetarians and the breakfast hardly had anything for us except some sweet pastries and some cheese. But more concerningly the female servers in the dining room (except 1) were generally unsmiling and seemed to be going through the motions as some chore. The hotel location was fine - it was 15 mins walk from High Street/Royal Mile and 5-10 min Uber ride from train station which was convenient. But overall the neighbourhood of the hotel is overly quiet (and dead). The checkout time is 12 noon and we were 10 mins late and the front desk lady was a bit sarcastic and made a comment. We may not choose to stay at this hotel again in our next trip.
Our stay was great. Friendly staff, great services and nice rooms. Only bad point about our stay was that we had a king bed room and it was just 2 singles pushed together. During the night they end up splitting and you fall down the gap. Other than that the stay was amazing.
My stay was fine - the only issue was the waiter who was serving the evening diners didn't seem to have any concept of hospitality or service. I appreciate he was a young lad who was trying to earn some pocket money, but you ought not to put him out front, he'd be better off in the kitchen.
This is very walkable to every major attraction around here.
Lovely stay in a beautiful hotel
Our stay was lovely, great position in a beautiful city. It smelt amazing when walking in , the staff were all really friendly. Donald is a credit to the hotel , so friendly and helpful we had a lovely chat with him. The room was gorgeous , loved all the little extras. The hotel was decorated beautifully for Christmas, would definitely return.
Hidden gem
Great for a quiet location but close to everything. Excellent service, nicely refurbished after Marriott takeover.
The room was spacious and very clean. Convenient walk to old town. Everything was great!
It was cool and wont mind staying there again
Amazing
Had a great time Staff were amazing especially concierge Mike couldn’t do enough, rooms very clean and modern, ideally located.
Little far our from center of town but overall happy with stay
Lovely hotel
Lovely hotel with very friendly staff. Great breakfast.
Everything is perfect
The hotel was nice, staff were lovely
Clean warm great standards. Nice gym and pool
Nice big rooms and great walk-in shower.
TV was intermittent and housekeeping was not what I expect from a 4 star hotel
Lovely
Night away
The hotel was very clean and easy to find. The gentleman at the front who received us was very polite, well mannered and helpful. The room was very spacious, bed was super comfy and all very clean. They have an agreement with a nearby carpark for a discount for hotel stayers which was brilliant (2 minute walk away). The only two comments would be the bar shutting quite early for guests (because as scots we are raging alchies and would have enjoyed a few drinks after our evening out and to see the xmas market), but also the panel for the ac faced the bed and with the lights off was extremely bright with no way of turning the screen off (eso make sure to bring some nail glue or bluetac to stick some toilet paper over 👌
Found the staff to be very helpful and pleasant
Great stay
Very comfortable bed. Clean room. Helpful, friendly staff. I shall be booking with Marriott again.
Great hotel for a few days in Edinburgh. Location is super convinient and staff were so helpful. Definitely recommend!
Great room and breakfast was amazing
Very enjoyable three day stay at the Marriott. The room, food and staff were all excellent, couldn’t fault it.
Loved staying here. Large room, large very comfortable bed. Great breakfast options. Staff very nice and helpful. Enjoyed the pool and sauna after long day of walking around Edinburgh. Can walk to Waverley station with luggage (15min). Slightly out of the heavy tourist area (next to uni campus) but only minutes walk to Royal mile etc. lots of great meal options close by. Definitely would stay here again.
Breakfast is so good.
Location was ideal, walkable to all attractions in Edinburgh
It was in a perfect location - close enough to walk everywhere but far enough from the hubbub of the Royal Mile to be able to enjoy a quiet nights sleep. The service was unparalleled and everything was extremely clean. A great stay!
The breakfast was not value for money for £17 . Could have had better options.
Excellent service from staff. Would have given overall 5 stars apart from our luggage not being delivered to our room as advised them having to chase for this to happen
Nice but 1 small problem
T.Vs did not work in any of the rooms the weekend we went. Not a drama and didnt effect our stay but all we got was a "sorry" on check out and not even a discount on the overall bill or even a drink at the bar when reporting it.
Previously stayed at this hotel when it was under different ownership. Has been refurbished and was clean , modern and beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was a bit underwhelming- hot food was luke warm and not a great choice and it was self service coffee from a flask , a self servi e coffee machine woukd be nicer
It was close to everything, near Hollywood palace and close to the end of the royal mile.
Room and breakfast buffet
Our room was ok. We were in the first floor. It should have a ramp for the suitcases. I found the breakfast buffet ok. We were there for one week and a change would have been good.
The staff on all forms, are of exceptional proficiency. The hotel is amazing, they make you feel like they have known you for year on your arrival. Excellent value for money, will definitely be staying again. Thank You one and all !!
We had a deluxe king room, the room itself was great however the room was dusty and didn’t seem to be cleaned as part of the daily turndown. I think this is highlighted more through there being black fixtures in the room, eg the lights and switches by the bed. The location of the hotel was really good to see all sides of Edinburgh.
Wonderful stay in Edinburgh. Property is located in a great spot, making many sights walkable. Room was comfortable although it got quite warm at night even with air con on. Breakfast was lovely but we wished there had been some vending and bottled water available near or in the room.
Great location and very good secure parking over the road
Property was ok. Our room looked a bit ran down but it was not too bad
Comfortable mattress and pillows.
Friendly staff. Smooth check-in. Generous size room with a COMFORTABLE bed and pillows (king bed). Cannot emphasize the comfort of the mattress and pillows enough.
Very very good hotel in a great location, with very friendly and helpful staff.
Room and bed was very comfortable. Nice and quiet. Decided to have dinner there and waited 45 mins for our food and there were only a few other people there. Also booked in for facial to be told that they didn't have the booking.
Rooms were spacious, clean and quiet.Great beds and nicely appointed. Dining was another matter. We spent 2 nights and the menu was fine, then took a 3 day tour of the Sky. When we returned the menu had completely changed and other than fish and chips, which we had been eating a lot of in London and Scotland, there was NOTHING on the menu my husband could eat. He is allergic to all things dairy (except eggs), sulfides, including shelfish, garlic, and onions, and does not eat meat (beef, lamb or pork). They removed the tuna fish sandwich and a quinoa bowl salad. We were very disappointed as the rest of our experianced here was great.
Comfortable beds and Great Location!
One of the most comfortable beds ive ever slept on! Lovely and quiet and great black out curtains too. A perfect location just off the Royal Mile.
front desk staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food was very plain and service was slow. The lobster Bisque was very salty, and the fish and chips was very plain. probably the least tasty of the 10 plus places that we had fish and chips on our trip to Scotland. Very inconvenient getting around in the hotel. we had to go to different levels and long hallways with various direction changes to get to our room. bed was very hard and uncomfortable.
Good for a weekend to Edinburgh. Good facilities and close enough to city centre
Nice rooms and breakfasts. We were pretty busy so we didn’t have a chance to use the spa. Hotel is convenient to Holyrood and Dynamic Earth but less so to activities around Edinburgh Castle.
Edinburgh
Our stay was very nice, this hotel is in a great location for old town tourism. It is very clean and large rooms. We did not utilize the restaurant or bar area but it appeared to be clean and good menu selections.
Beautiful place!
Hotel is in a nice location, access to nearby tourist attractions , short walking distance to Dynamic Earth, Hollyrood Palace and royal mile.
Good hotel. We were here for three nights. Would recommend that the rooms have microwaves. Location is good for walks to the Royal Mile and there is a Hop-o-hop-off bus stop at Dynamic Earth. Happy with our stay.
Excellent location and very accommodating service personnel.
Helpful concierge and good dtay
Location was ok. Walkable to Royal mile. My room was was on -1. Horrible view of parking lot, where carts rolled by, people smoking and talking. I think room was recently remodeled, no phone or mini refrigerator. Breakfast choice not great, packaged mini croissants, limited selection. Service at restaurant at night was awful, waited for a dessert, waited for check, took almost an hour for 1dessert, which was mediocre. Bar had good selection of drinks. Just not up to Marriott standards and very expensive for room that was tiny but I guess consistent with European market.
Great stay very friendly and helpful staff Large room clean though out Good quiet location
Enjoyed our stay. Central. Convenient. Gym and pool were great.
Great Location and staff
The location is great! Just a 2 minute walk from the middle of the royal mile, close to Holyrood Palace and the hop on and off sightseeing bus stop. The room was nice and bathrooms was clean. Our only complaint was the mini fridge in our room had a rotten smell. Despite several attempts of the staff to clean the fridge and remove it fully. The smell rendered it useless for us. We avoided opening it or using the space around it. The hotel breakfast is pretty good, typical fare you would expect. Make sure you ask the staff for eggs the way you prefer- definitely enhanced the experience for us. Donald at concierge and Gabriela at the front were so kind and helpful. Donny helped us organize some excellent tours! Overall we enjoyed our stay and cannot wait to be back.
The staff at checkin were friendly and very accommadating. The rooms were updated and very nice.
A six story 4 star (?) property with not very good housekeeping, unfriendly staff, and only one working elevator for a six story hotel.
Great stay
Great stay, a little walk to the castle and city center. Good breakfast as well.
Good hotel. Well located for shopping and sights in central area. Extra fees include room service of 7 pounds for food, every time you get room service. Also you pay 25 pounds for parking per day. My first night I was given an extra bed with unclean linen so they had to change it. Thats why I gave a 3 star. The second room we got was clean though. I paid higher season rates so really expect the service to be proffessional. Staff all doing a fairly good job. We were really tired independent travellors at the end of our trip so needed some comfort and relaxation. Unfortunately in both rooms only 15 tissue hankies were provided. This was ... stingy and weird.
Good but not great
The Marriott was good but not great. One of the two lifts had not worked for four months and being on the fifth floor that was not helpful. The pool was very good with helpful staff.
Fringe event trip
Pleasant hotel well placed for the city centre and for fringe events. Noise du the night from somewhere outside but living in a quiet rural community maybe not used to city noise. Strange that it was a room for disabled people as you still had to climb into a bath to use the shower. Parking close by and discounted
A wonderful hotel, friendly staff, who provide assistance upon request, quiet location, and a varied breakfast. I recommend it
Staff very helpful. Close proximty to Royal Mile, Palace, etc
not as advertised for sure
Room was not as advertised, got a lower grade room, paid a deluxe fee, no phon in room, only one seat in the room for 2 people, my wife is blind, had to climeb steps due to only being one elevator for our duration of stay, have more bbut these are the obvious faults,
Close to the Royal Mile.
Great stay Clean Perfect location
Good value
Our room was spotless. The breakfast provided was very nice.
Very good location. Convenient to walk from this hotel to Royal mile. A lot of restaurants to choose.
Great location
Very nice place . All staff were friendly. Great location
Enjoyed the large room with comfortable bed. Very walkable but quiet location.
When you book with the Marriot, you expect certain standards. The Edinburgh Marriot Holyrood lived up to those standards. Great location in order to walk the city for shopping, site seeing and restaurants. Great experience.
Marriott Hollywood Edinburgh
Our hotel check in was excellent. The reception was warm and welcoming and we were given tips on where to eat dinner and how to get to the tourist areas we were interested in.
The beds were very uncomfortable. I believe they were new. The mattress was like a rock. I asked for a mattress topper but they didn’t have any. This would have made it more comfortable. Aside from that the hotel is lovely and the staff super friendly.
Great location and walkable. The only issue I had was dinner in the restaurant on our last night in town was denied because they had two big functions booked and we had to eat at the bar but really if we hadn’t been so tired we could have walked 10-15 minutes to find a restaurant anywhere nearby with ease
Last minute booking through my other hotel being a disgrace. Really surprised by standard of hotel. Really well situated for Royal Mile and Castle. Only 10-15 mins from centre of city. Room was bright and spacious. Staff were very friendly and happy to help where they could. Nice surroundings for an end of day drink at the bar. Definitely be back
nice location for hop on hop off
Nice peaceful area near to Holyrood park.
You need to be in good shape because most local action in town is uphill, there is not a lot too much nearby. only 1 elevator was working, there was no clock in our room and there were no sheer curtains to let light in and have privacy as we were very close to the building next door.
Great location near Arthur’s Seat and the Royal Mile. Donald at the front desk was a tremendous help and outstanding person!
Very clean and wonderful customer service. The concierge was extremely helpful on recommendations.
Friendly staff, excellent breakfast, comfortable and spacious rooms, good location.
This was a last minute booking. The staff were helpful and very nice. The restaurant staff were both pleasant and fun. The location is perfect for walking to local sites.
Had a wonderful time in this amazing city. Will be back
Great location , service is just okay
Excellent walking location! Spotless modern rooms ! Wonderful breakfast with extremely friendly and accommodating staff! Only one small working elevator and noisy construction work but that will all pass! Absolutely stay here … this place is a gem!!!
Nice hotel in a good position to see the sights. Hotel room wasn’t as clean as we would have expected & only 1 lift working so could be long waits as we were in the 5th gloor
Hotel holyrood
Hotel was good as having a total refurbishment but Marriott has decided to put in wooden floors
Decent location, good service
This hotel was ok. The room had some issues: no privacy curtains, only blackout curtains; no drawers so couldn’t unpack; only overhead lighting-no lamps, although they brought one up so my husband could read before bed. The breakfasts were very good, but the coffee was very weak, so order a specialty coffee. I would have rated the hotel one star lower, but the staff were very helpful, especially David, the concierge, who went out of his way to greet us each morning.
Absolutely Brilliant!
Third visit to this hotel. What a difference a change in ownership makes. Rooms refreshed and clean and comfortable. Staff were absolutely amazing both before and during the stay. I rang to inquire about parking with a blue badge. The hotel called me within the hour (apologised for the delay although I had said there was no rush as my stay was a week or so away!). Could park either outside or down the side of the hotel. All staff were so friendly and helpful. We were attending a wedding and got a free upgrade. Would highly recommend to everyone. Plus - if you are buying one of the bus tour tickets they stop about 100 metres away so you can avoid the walk uphill if you want to!

Good location, clean modern but bed was way too stiff and uncomfortable. Elevator service was limited as one out of service. Menu at restaurant was not inspired, few choices. Breakfast was very good.
A superb hotel in every way--the staff best of all, plus rooms and amenities.
Scotland hotel
This hotel was amazing. Some cons. The hotel is beautifully renovated. The room was large and spacious. The ac for us hot Americans didn't work very well. The bathroom was nice and clean. It was pretty close to everything! A bus stop is very close and it's right behind the royal mile. And the best thing was the proximity to the tesco with all the British candy. The people were great. The spa was nice, although they messed up my friends reservations so if you book the spa double check your reservations. The breakfast that came with the room was decent. Overall a great hotel for a nice price .
Last minute
Last minute overnight stay, lovely, hotel, friendly staff , clean & comfortable
Above and beyond services provided.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Marriott hotel, and I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I was greeted with warmth and professionalism by the staff. The room itself was immaculate, spacious, and beautifully decorated, providing a comfortable and relaxing environment throughout my stay. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep every night. The amenities provided by the hotel were top-notch, from the fitness center to the pool area, everything was well-maintained and easily accessible. Additionally, the on-site dining options exceeded my expectations with delicious meals and attentive service. One aspect that truly stood out to me was the exemplary customer service. Every staff member I encountered went above and beyond to ensure my needs were met and that I had a memorable stay. Overall, I cannot recommend the Marriott hotel highly enough. Whether for business or leisure, it provides the perfect combination of comfort, luxury, and hospitality. I look forward to returning in the future.
Great hotel
Second time staying at this hotel, service from staff great, very friendly and helpful, rooms clean and comfortable. Breakfast tasty and plenty of choice
Edinburgh Marriott One Night Review - December
The stay was excellent. Only a night to catch up with a friend and a bit of Christmas shopping before heading home. The staff, bar, breakfast area were all very good. The room was lovely and a good size and very comfortable bed. The ensuite was spotlessly clean and a very good shower. We will come back!
