Family Experience in Paradise
We were warmly welcomed and treated with utmost courtesy and professionalism in this unique and beautiful resort. We were a family of 4 and stayed for 3 nights in Feb 2025. The resort was like a garden itself, very cozy and homely and also very safe and secure. This is the best place to stay, where downtown and even many tourist activities are only 1km away. There are several restaurants within walking distance. Management is super nice and helpful. They scheduled all our tours and even our daughter received a surprise birthday present for her birthday! Breakfast is really good with local specialties that my entire family loved. Would really recommend for all to stay here!
This is a lovely hotel just outside La Fortuna. A rushing river runs behind the property and the grounds are filled with interesting birds. The room was brand new and the breakfast was good. You pretty much need a car to get to town for dinner or anything else, but the tour companies will come to get you for the various adventures. The only restaurant nearby was Mary's BBQ and we had a bad meal and rude customer service there. Read the reviews before you have anything more than a drink there.
The hotel is well maintained nestled within beautiful vegetation. The staff are super attentive, helpfull and friendly. Breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed observing the birds eating the fruit set for them. Carlos was super informative, helpful, friendly and professional.
Nice place
Pleasant surroundings; excellent breakfast; nice room; good shower; friendly staff
Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Nice and clean room. Beautiful compound. Would definitely stay there again.
Five stars
Eco Arsenal Hotel-- I would highly recommend this hotel. Front desk customer service was excellent and staff was very friendly as well. The grounds were beautiful and well kept up. Lots of birds and squirrels. Even seen a monkeys in the trees early in the morning. The room was very clean with modern anemities. The mattress were nice and firm, NOT old and lumpy.
Great place for a few nights in La Fortuna
Great place to stay for a few nights in La Fortuna. Hotel is 3-star, so wasn't expecting the Ritz... rooms were clean, everything worked as advertised, breakfast was good. Location was great - we liked that it wasn't directly downtown (we had a car) so it was nice and quiet. Would stay again if back in La Fortuna.
Loved the river creek views- very peaceful. The breakfast and coffee needs improvement. Property is very nice but few upgrades needed like shower pressure and bedding.
Bathroom alcove had with no privacy from sleeping area, more like an open stall in a public bathroom. There was mold on the walls of the bathroom alcove. Massive problem with flies and uncovered food at breakfast, they need fans or something in the eating area. Generally, well situated yet quiet. Friendly iguana by the pool.
Great place to stay in la fortuna
Great service very friendly and 6 mins from la fortuna. Good pickup spot for tours. They have a fantastic breakfast and a BBQ place across the street. Amazing ac in room will full cable service. Beds are between hard and soft but very quite at night. Right next to a small creek and tons of wildlife all around
Nice staff. Convenient location. Great view of Arenal!
10/10 The staff was friendly. Rooms were clean and ready by 3pm and the breakfast is awesome! Will be back
Disappointed with Eco Arenal Hotel
We were quite disappointed with the accommodations. The rooms were old and had a musty odor. There was quite a bit of mold and mildew on the ceiling of the bathrooms. The breakfast was okay and there was a beautiful view of the volcano from the dining area.
We loved our recent stay at the Eco Arenal Hotel. The room was clean with a patio overlooking the creek and jungle. We walked the beautiful grounds and gardens every night and admired the hummingbirds and flowers. We could hear howler monkeys in the distance, but never saw them. The breakfast included everything from local foods to pancakes. The staff was very helpful, friendly, and attentive. The restaurant across the street (Mary's) was also excellent for dinner. I highly recommend this hotel.
Access lot of potholes. But loved proof birds and garden.
It has a family feeling! Friendly staff, the facilities are simple and eco friendly, and you feel connected with nature.
clean rooms, good breakfast, friendly recepionist
We were on a family vacation and stayed there for 3 nights. When we check in, they first gave us a wrong type of room then our booking. That room was on a two-story building. The room was dark, and smelt moldy. We went back to the reception, they switched us to a different room which has the correct bed settings as we booked, but this time they only had 2 sets of towels and even bed blankets for our family of 3. Again, we went back to the reception and they fixed the problem. Hotel room is comfortable. Bathroom setup is a little weird. There is no room to leave your luggage open, so you always have to put it on bed, open and get your stuff and then close and put away. Breakfast is okay, same stuff every day. The smoke bbq restaurant across street is a good place to get lunch or dinner.
Loved Eco Arenal and all the staff. Laura was awesome, lots of information and very accomodating. We stayed in the newer building so everything was clean tidy and comfortable. The birds that visited were unbelievable, better than the hikes in the area in our experience. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a nice quiet relaxing stay while still being close to town for restaurants and shopping.
This property has a lot of baby roaches, it’s is dirty. So many bugs all over the room. Terrible customer service. Room is dirty.
Great place
Wonderful staff and great location!
The staff was friendly and helpful. The property was clean. The breakfast was very good. And the best part was the vote of the volcano from the hotel and the howler monkeys that played in the trees.
Nature all around!!! Close to the city and yet so calm , an oasis
Good location and beautiful place Very nice staff, excellent breakfast. I want come back next time..
Lovely people! Superb service. Delicious breakfast. Rooms were clean and roomy. Soap wasn’t great but other than that, perfection! Don Olivo chocolate tour down the road was so fun!
Over all good one day they didn’t do room No more.
This place (the rooms we got) had zero amenities except hand soap, bugs were in the room, room was not cleaned one day, their is a kitchen with nothing provided including a coffee pot but no coffee. The worst was the shower. I took tap water out from the tap with a cup and poured it on my body. We did not complain because we are not picky when we are in a different country where we don't speak the language. Breakfast was excellent. The overall property is beautiful. The front desk lady got mad at my husband because he got upset (raised voice, no use of bad language) that we left 45 minutes after check out from our room and needed to pay more. She was just doing her job and called the owner who was nice to say not to charge extra. But the lady was so vengeful that she didn't let us warm up our pizza in the kitchen and shut off the water in the reception building so we couldn't wash our hands or use the toilet. She turned it back on at 2 pm before her shift ended. Very upset with Orbitz for misguiding me into paying full price upfront with no refund to cancel, and charging me a price that a nice resort was charging in that town. Based on the price, I thought it would be a fantastic place. Some rooms were renovated but our rooms were so old that the tiles in bathroom were cracked and they ran out of tiles so part of it was exposed cement. I paid multiple hundred dollars per day per room due to being misguided by Orbitz reviews.
Convenient, quiet location with amazing volcano view
This hotel is about a kilometer or so outside of La Fortuna, set in a lovely garden in the countryside. It is convenient to so many activities like hiking, swimming in La Fortuna waterfall, tours of chocolate and coffee plantations, amazing hot spring spas, and adventure activities such as whitewater rafting and zip-lining. The hotel itself is very basic--no luxuries or frills--but completely adequate. There is an open-air restaurant on the property, and it is quiet and peaceful, as contrasted with the noisy atmosphere in downtown La Fortuna.
Great location......close to town .......friendly helpful staff
We enjoyed our stay. The staff was accommodating and pleasant.
Checked out within an hour
Very old, run down, mold on outside and inside walls, threadbare linens, two bugs in bed, ants in the kitchen, no towels in bathroom, oniy closet is in the bathroom, fire ants biting as we unloaded and then loaded the car, no wifi except in the office. Asked to cancel our 4 nights or at least the following 3 and clerk said too late! No money returned, You might as well camp--it would be easier breathing without the mold.
Lovely property and amazing staff
My bf and I stayed here for 3 days and had an amazing time. The staff where unbelievably helpful and friendly. The hotel is a little off of town but it was approx 3$ cab , so nice and easy, plus I liked the privacy . There's also a papaya plantation near by if you go exploring a bit. The farmer on the property told us we could walk around which was so nice. Over all really enjoyed my experience would definitely stay here again.
Nice hotel, very clean, friendly and helpful staff
We love the environment, flower, birds, monkeys and the small river. The swimming pool is nice. The breakfast building facing the volcano is a nice touch. We had a car so we didn't mind the 1km drive to town.
basic room, great service, nice location.
my friend and i stayed here for several nights. the hotel is set back about half a mile outside of town, which makes it nice and quiet. the workers are extremely friendly and helpful. we really appreciated all of the travel advice. the free breakfast was tasty, and again, the servers are super nice. be aware that the rooms are more like nice cabins at a campground though, in the sense that the room is very basic and no frills. i was expecting something more and was initially taken aback by the starkness of the room, but it made for a good place to sleep after sightseeing all day. there's a/c, a shower with good water pressure, and a fridge, but it is not really the sort of room that you'd want to hang out for a while in. actually, that might be its strong suit, since it ensures you go out and about as much as possible while you're on vacation. also, the wifi can only be accessed at the reception area.
JUST OKAY
The room was not what we paid for! Our room was supposed to have two double beds. The a/c had not been put on and when we arrived after driving 3 hours we got to our room to find it like a sauna. This at 8pm was not pleasant. Secondly the walls have large gaps around the A/C and front door which waste all the cool air. There is no place to put your clothes. No closet or dresser! The toilet didn't work too well, and you have to put toilet paper in a waste bin. The TV was not receiving a signal and no one could help us with that. After two days I figured out that it was a tree branch in the way, no big deal. . but there was no one who was of any real help. The town has little in the way of entertainment and it's dark at 5:30 La Fortuna is NOT a family town after dark.It is nice to visit and do the hikes and take in the scenery. A TV would have been helpful. Diego was very helpful at the front desk but he was only there the first two days. After that the front staff was of little assistance. The gardens are gorgeous and maintained with extreme care. The grounds are lovely and teaming with wildlife. Cleaning staff were very nice and kept our room tidy. Kitchen staff were very pleasant and the food was appreciated! We've been to Costa Rica before this trip and our experience helped us this trip. Driving here is dangerous and requires patience and skilled driving. Every excursion from Fortuna takes hours to get to. The town itself has only one decent adult night spot
Convenient but poor value
This was the most expensive hotel we stayed at in 3 different regions of Costa Rica, however this may be because we booked just a few days before? We had a standard room and my biggest complaint was lack of comfort for the price- small, hard beds with small, lumpy pillows & A/C that couldn't remove the suffocating humidity. The staff, breakfast and location were awesome but it is hard to make up for poor sleep.
Last Minute surprise
I booked this hotel visit last moment without any guidance. It's a reasonable place, clean and safe. The beach is great and surf lessons are available on site.
Eco.. Realy?
This property is out of town. No walking to anywhere. They use the word 'eco' extensively, but 10 minutes after we forgot our reusable container at breakfast with a strudel from last night, it was chucked into the garbage..? OK place to be if you are looking to be further from shops and have own car.
Nice Place, No Frills
This is a nice little collection of Cabinas a short distance from downtown La Fortuna. However, a vehicle is required to get anywhere -- nothing is within 1 or 2 kilometers. The place is quiet, neat, and clean... nothing fancy. The on-site outdoor restaurant was pleasant, although the operating hours are short.
great
great eco friendly villas. friendly staff. clean and has aircon. nice breakfast.
Excellent, very peaceful & quiet, the staff very friendly, made us feel at home away from home, plan to return in a year. Very pleased.
Quiet peaceful country setting with helpful staff
Two km out of LaFortuna on one of the bumpiest roads. They call it a Costa Rican massage. Only $3.50 taxi from LaFortuna to this peaceful country environment with forest and small stream. Three nights of restful sleep after full days of tours were a welcome. Breakfasts complete but not expansive buffet in an open dining environment. Staff very helpful in all matters of room requests, tour advice, and in general pleasing personalities. The room does not have a table for placing personal things or working with a computer, which is important in these days of travel where the Internet is integral for planning and communicating. Internet signal good most of the time in the rooms except during rains. Phone service excellent.
Great place and beautiful grounds
We had a great stay at Eco Arenal. We only stayed one night, but I wish we could stay longer and take advantage of the beautiful grounds and the pool. We arrived earlier than the check-in time and after checking that our rooms are ready the manager on duty let us check -in. The rooms were roomy and very clean and neat. All the villas looked great( we booked 3 units) and well maintained. The grounds are so beautiful, with many different kinds of flowers, bushes and trees it feels like you in the botanical garden. The villas are also located outside the busy touristic area so it is super quiet and relaxing. The breakfast, which is included, was simple, but very delicious. We had rice and beans( it is served everywhere and with every meal in Costa Rica), scrambled eggs, ham, potatoes, fresh papaya, pineapple, bananas, bread basket, coffee, tea, orange juice. It is served starting at 7AM, so we had plenty of time to enjoy before going out to our activities. We were 8 adults in our group and everyone agree that we will stay there again if we're lucky to go back to Costa Rica.
Good stay but staff could be more straightforward
Nothing outstanding about the room, just an expected three star hotel. The staff was very polite, but not very useful. - Asked for an extra towel, but it never showed up. - We were suggested to do the hanging bridges with a "small" fee (we would think it meant no more than $10), but actually it was $24 each person for a walk less than 2 hours with a little kid. Nothing against the hanging bridges, it was pleasant to see and walk. Just the staff could be honest and straightforward. - The restaurant is pretty expensive and a little deceiving. They had the menu in a small little charcoal board (nothing fancy), three simple options (chicken, pork, pasta). We wouldn't think each of them actually meant a three course meal and $20 something each. We didn't know at that time and even ordered one for our three year old, and ended up with a bill of $65 and plenty leftover. Again, nothing bad about the food, but just wish things were a little more transparent, so we can make the best decision without feeling being cheated. If we had tons of money to spare as the staff assumed, we wouldn't have stayed in a three star hotel.
Beautiful property
The property was really nice Nice pool. Front desk person friendly and helpful. Rm was rough. We closed windows to try to block out barking dog and AC was a beastly loud machine that froze the rm but without it the room was a sauna. Big hole in wall covered w lattice. Shower didn't work.
Villas Eco Arenal Review
Hotel location is wonderful. Had extremely positive experience with staff. They were amazing people. We stayed there for two nights. We will stay there again if we have another opportunity to visit Costa Rica. I would highly recommend this place. Very Eco friendly. Rooms are not that great but all other things outweigh rooms.
Excellent hotel
Dont think twice.

Nice rooms, quiet, comfortable. Pool cleanlines questionable upon arrival. Cleaned the next morning
