The room has no air conditionar,and no space to exchange the air, it is very stuffy at night

got there and was given a small room, it was rectify and given a bigger room with a little kitchen, that made all the difference, so was happy with that.

Comfortable Stay for the (Low) Price

This is a wonderful find near the heart of Auckland for an American traveler while visiting family here in NZ. The room was spacious and had everything I needed-- a small, well equipped kitchen, stove, oven and a fridge, a table with chairs, a newly remodeled bathroom and shower with soft towels, hot water with great pressure and a small handheld blow dryer. The bed and pillows were clean and comfy. The room could have slept 3 adults. I felt safe-- be aware there are hotel rooms as well as more permanent housing for tenants at the same property. But it was a quiet neighborhood setting. There were two sitting chairs outside of the room overlooking the pool.

Our unit was clean with a comfortable bed and extra pillows provided on request. Good cooling fan in the room as the weather was hot. Room and bathroom facilities very dated. The motel was quiet with no traffic noise. It was easy to get around the city from this location.

Worth it

Convenient location. Free parking is a nice change from expensive Auckland CBD locations

I felt the property was very tired and could do with some major capital being spent on it. The bed was ok and things were functional but generally it needs investment and a lot of updating. The lady on reception was very welcoming and pleasant.

Our room has everything we needed. The bathroom looked nice and renovated. I would recommend staying here!

Property was clean but dated.

It was not a great stay but not much to complain either. Things that could be improved would be availability of the pool (the one evening where we really needed the pool, it was already closed). For the shower they provided little sachets of shampoo, but no body wash. The shower cell is rather tight, and the shower head was mounted too low for a tall person like me. The smoke alarm was mounted in the bed area which IMHO is not quite fitting the standard, and its blinking can be irritating. The curtains were not fully light blocking, so we could not darken our room to our needs from outdoor lights. We probably will go there again if we have business in the region.

Overall it was good value for money. The only complaint was that for some of the TV channels there was no service/connection. Not sure what tje reason was

Lovely reception staff

The reception staff were lovely and helpful. She assisted us with a map of the area and highlighted how to access the local shopping facilities.

Location was ok. Overall a little run down. Really pathetic shower! Didn’t help that the weather was so awful.

Great service great location and a bonus pool to cool off in !

I had a good experience in this hotel, very friendly staff. We really enjoyed the kitchen as we prepared our breakfast, it has everything you’d need to fix any meal. We also like the swimming pool and the closeness to public transportation and the mall. The only downside was the “broken” signal to wifi, but no big deal for us as we had data on our cellphone. We definitely would come back again!

Nothing really

The room was small, and there was no rubbish bin in the room. There was only one bin in the toilet which said sanitary only otherwise charges apply.

Affordable accommodation in Royal Oak

I stayed two nights at Dukes Midway Lodge because I had meetings taking place nearby. It was perfectly adequate as a place to stay. The bed, bathroom, kitchen, wifi and parking were in line with the room pricing. The location was nearby Cornwall Park which had many wonderful hikes - including One Tree Hill. If you need budget accommodations with parking in the Royal Oak area in Auckland, this property will do the job.

We have stayed at this property before and have been happy with our rooms but this time around was very disappointing. Our particular room was becoming run down, eg curtains coming off the railing due to hardware being broken, could barely open the door to start with as very stiff, decor/bathroom just simply run down and not sure if dishes/cutlery are washed after each guest but some of ours was dirty. Apologies for an unhappy review but the room simply was below average

The staff was so helpful whenever I had questions or needed help with something. They were very nice and quite accommodating.

It was exactly what we were after, clean and pleasant/welcoming staff

The pool chapped like a guitar was ok but not clean. The room was upstairs and the stairs was outside and not covered and had damage to it the room was clean but paint was pealing of the skirting board and a board on the wall was covering a area that was hiding a water problem so the pipes was dripping and it was a constant noise when the person next door was having a shower. Room was cleaned every day and bed made fresh towels put out, that was very nice

only stayed 2 nights. The bed was comfortable but everything else was old and dated. lino in the bathroom was poorly laid around the edges, cracked and dirty looking. I think there are a number of long term tenants which creates noise at odd hours. People using taps / toilet / shower in neighbouring rooms created noise with water pipes. reception staff were very nice and welcoming.

Very old and tired and in a terrible state of tepair

It was unkept and poorly maintained. In fact it would be a poor reflection of tourist accommodation in New Zealand.

Location was perfect. The hotel is quite dated but all round The Duke was an excellent choice. The receptionist was very helpful on our arrival.

Pictures of the room wasn't exactly how the room looked. However in saying that the room was clean and tidy. Needs air conditioning, as it was extremely hot and the van provided made no difference. There was no real ventilation in the bathroom.

I was okay till I wanted to sleep and there were people who were talking outside my room till I told them at 12.10am that I needed to sleep and could they find somewhere else to talk

Room said king size bed was small and room was very small pictures are very misleading

Hotel fine but paperwork poor as it showed address as “off Pah Rd” but not which Pah Rd! We wasted a lot of time in the wrong area and had to return to rental car office for help.

Pleasant stay

Perfect location for our needs. Motel was clean and very comfortable. Nice touch having heater and electric blankets on before we arrived. We will be back as we expect to visit the area regularly to see family and the motel is in the right place and has proved to be a really nice place to stay.

Absolute disappointment

Don't waste your money on this dump!!! Without a doubt THE WORST experience I have had in any accommodation anywhere. We were "upgraded" on arrival, which seemed great until we saw the room. I would hate to the state of the standard room! The walls in this place are paper thin, and all that separated us from the neighbour was a loosely-fastened ply board over a doorway, so we could hear every cough and splutter all the first night. On the second night, the roof started leaking right next to the bed, and when informed of this, the woman at reception did not offer to change rooms or any other solution, except for a towel for the floor. A party next door continued right through the night with visitors, loud music, drinking, and terrible singing, followed by a fight, what sounded like holes in the wall, and a visit by the police at 2am. Given the thinness of the walls, no sleep was had during that time. The issue here is that nobody is on site overnight, so there is no chance of getting these situations handled. I voiced my displeasure in the morning but again was offered no resolution. Considering the amount we had paid for this room and the distance travelled, this was a complete disappointment and came very close to ruining the weekend. This place should be condemned as it is not fit for purpose.

Nice and clean motel close to Eateries

Lovely and welcoming front office staff. 10mins walk to the Eateries/Bar etc.. my room was clean and bed so comfy. Was in Studio unit so ok for 1 person, maximum 2. Basic amenities but clean, tidy and cosy.

all in all a nice place to stay, quite, withno other guests making too much noise or anything. Would happily stay there again

South side of Auckland allows for easy movement ag

King size bed in a double bed size room. No room for cases, thin walls make adjoining room conversations, your conversation.

Not clean and very old place. No house cleaning , had to ask,when service was provided.

A Motel not a Hotel

Room was very small but clean ans bed comfortable, no airconditioning just open windows and a table fan that drove me crazy. Only one night as evening flight arrival, left early for trip around NZ. Pictures look better than actual. Ok for 1 night.

Very convenient for where I needed to be

The location was good - very convenient and close to where I needed to be. The room very tiny - only just enough room to walk around the bed. Cleanliness was not the greatest but the sheets were very crisp and clean which was good.

Small room, dated everything, noise from both sides of the room and water pipe, no sky but very clean and friendly staff

Mixed bag. The cleaning was excellent one day, average the other. Was expecting sky tv as website says has cable channels but only had Freeview. Air fresher was overused and stunk the room out. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Was very quiet when no one in adjoining room, when there was the conversations were reasonably audible.

Really disappointed with our room. Although it was clean, it was very dated. Bathroom could do with an upgrade...vanity tap was loose and needed tightening, grout/silicone in shower needs redoing as was black. Missing lightbulbs in a couple of light fittings in the main room and powerpoints are in really dumb places. Bed coverings were also very dated but underneath were some really nice modern quilts that if werent covered up made a huge difference to the feel of the room. Bed was definitely a 'roll-together' model which didnt make for a very comfortable sleep unfortunately.

This hotel was just adequate. Definitely could use some updates but if you are travelling on a budget... Swimming pool was good. Unfortunately no air-conditioning so was pleased to have an up-stairs road facing room to get the afternoon breeze.

Studio room more like cupboard

Most disappointing stay in new zealand room so small for studio, kitchen was a cupboard no lounge had out door table and fold up chairs very disappointing will never stay there again made us dislike Auckland.

It was OK for the price. The room was very small and the shower was in need of a refurbish.
