I had issues checking in. I couldn’t stay at the property and had to go some where else. Out of all the trips this year this hotel and Takoma Quality Inn were rude, inhospitable and unhelpful.
My room was in the basement, which was relatively clean based on the prices paid. The HVAC unit blew strong wind with a loud noise even though the fan speed had been selected as the lowest. I couldn't sleep well for three nights. There was only a pedestal sink without a vanity, so there was no space to put any toiletry items. The desk was tiny, barely fitting my laptop. There was no microwave oven or a small refrigerator in the room or any common areas. A Whole Foods Market is conveniently located nearby.
Simple clean room at a good price
I was apprehensive about booking this property after reading some reviews on some other sites, however decided to move forward with it. It is a very nice and quaint place on a more or less quiet street. Definitely one of the more affordable hotels in DC. The rooms are a bit small and there aren’t any amenities, however for our purposes, a very clean room/bed and TV was all we really needed. It’s within walking distance of some great restaurants and about a 10-15 minute drive to both the zoo and the museums. I would stay again, and knowing what I know now, would request a room on the second or third floor and make sure you bring your own soap and shampoo.
Nice place very affordable
Meh.
The hotel is extremely dated. Overall it was clean. No bugs (roaches, bed bugs). You’re getting what you pay for. A cheap hotel with a good location. It’s not a hostel but it’s pretty close.
I was traveling for work as a single woman and they put me in basement with a window with no bars it felt very unsafe. General overall appearance was rundown. Weird people hanging out in shared space, reception area. I def wouldn't stay there again. If I had stayed there on vacation I would have been very disappointed. For work I was hardly ever there. Def not worth 130 I could have stayed at a chain hotel and felt safer. When I was checking out they did not give a receipt when I asked for one they said would email it to me. The woman at the desk was on her cell phone having a personal conversation / argument and defiantly didn't want to help me check out. Very strange experience. More like a hostel then a hotel.
Low cost and slept well.
Cost was the decision factor. It was fine for what I needed.
Overall good service Thank you Good location to walk to downtown
The "room" was smaller than my childhood bedroom as it consisted of a bed and about two feet of space on the sides to maneuver. There was no place to put your clothes and the toilet was placed flush with the tub so you had to sit on it sideways.
Clean and very walkable
I was historic.
The hotel was fine for the money and last minute. The water pressure in the shower was terrible.
Good
Great place for its price
The front desk staff in the morning with a Somali accent was very rude by hanging up a phone just for asking for my security drposit. The hotel does not have a parking lot and the vallay parking is $46 per night. Book on the weekend so your car wouldnt get tow by prking 15 minutes on side of the street and 2 hours on the other dide of the street. No smoking area as a nonsmoking facility. The rooms are too smalll
Clean room. Easy walk downtown.
You can’t beat the location at this price. The 14th st area is lively with plenty of options for dining and shopping all within walking distance. It’s also just about a 30-40 minute walk to the National Mall and museums, making it an ideal spot to do D.C. on the cheap. But you definitely get what you pay for. Rooms are small with old and minimal furnishings. The TV in my room was outdated and most of the channels did not come in clear. The Wi-Fi was inconsistent throughout my stay. And on three separate occasions my key card stopped working on my room’s lock. The staff was friendly and helpful each time this happened, but I’ve never experienced this at any other place I’ve stayed.
I stayed in the second floor. The room had basic instruments to survive (e.g. though we have no refrigerator, we can use ice maker). However, some of them were not working. My hair dryer didn’t work, and it’s reason was probably that the outlet had no electricity. The heater warmed my room, but it was super noisy and situated just by the pillow. Thus, after all my struggle to sleep, I decided to turn it off and wear my coat. Plus, the wall was very thin and every noise from other rooms and animals outside bothered me. If you want a room just to stay, this hotel offers reasonable price. However, if you want a room more than that, I do not recommend.
Water fountain wasn’t operating
It's an older hotel, with worn carpets in the hallways and small rooms. But it feels safe, clean, and the location is convenient, with many dining options and a walkable distance to several metro stops. And the staff was friendly and helpful, the maid service perfect. There is a bar next door and one night there were many people there having a great time, and we could hear them from our room. But other nights they were quiet. If you are sensitive to night noise you might ask for a room on the side away from the bar.
The property is avg. But u get what u pay for i guess. It is a good place if u are looking to just sleep. The place has no real amenities. The doesn't work. They have a few different wifi names but it connected but it said no internet. There are restaurants and whole food near by. You can hear the doors open and close.
worst
I recommend
The hotel is well located with good restaurant options and, as I like to walk, I visited the main tourist attractions on foot. The hotel is old but very well maintained and the cleanliness is excellent!! The employees are very nice.
Excellent
The hotel gotta be reformed or closed.
Housekeeping is really bad
When I got into the room my bed was dirty. I immediately informed the front desk and called housekeeping and she was even irritated. He took pictures and so did i. There were blood stains on the sheets. It was pretty gross. They did replace all bedding immediately. But it should not be this way. That's disgusting! And you should hire better people for housekeeping but then I was wondering what else she did not clean properly. Thank God it was only one night. Reception was very friendly.
Good place, reasonable priced, good location
Lovely location close to the city centre, within walking distance for the underground metro station. Properly was clean, staff were friendly and helpful. The room service was good, we had fresh towels delivered everyday and our bed made. The showers were a good temperature but not very powerful in terms of pressure. The rooms were also quite small. Overall, it’s a nice place to lay your head, however I wouldn’t stay here for more than a few nights again.
Trump
Good trip , room was comfortable, but needs a coat of paint. Need to warn visitors of the 15 strps from sidewalk to Looby
Convenient location to get around in the city.
Forget if they put money into upgrades, they need to focus first just on simple maintenance
Great comfortable beds, quiet, wholefoods market nearby
The room was filthy used Kleenex in the tissue box. Horrible had to leave could not stay.
I love it’s location.
Good
Room had no closet. HVAC system too noisy.
Very nice
Great location on 14th St, North of White House. Has everything you need on 14th St
Check in was smooth. Staff were courteous. Location is very convenient. Very close to bars and restaurants and just a few blocks north of the White House. Walls quite thin with very loud plumbing - especially whenever someone in a surrounding room used the bath/toilet/sink. Overall a very acceptable hotel and reasonably priced.
It was incredible
The hotel was cheap and dated, room was clean though. The staff was absolutely horrible. The battery in my door died so my key card would not work and the door would not open. They said there was nothing they could do until the morning and they would not put me in another room. They were unhelpful and rude telling me that there was nothing they could do and I could book and PAY for another room for the night.
Clean comfortable rooms.
The lobby is decieving and not luxiourious but the hotle was clean, affordable, and centrally located! The staff was excellent, my room was cleaned and made up everday.
Went to National mall for Women Arise. Very small but functional. A bit outdated. Clean and cozy, location is convenient.
Location
The room was tiny but large enough for single person use. WiFi was stable, had only few tv channels, no microwave and fridge in the room. No breakfast but coffee was good
Booked a double bed, basic room, last minute for under $80. The room was small (tiny) and other than the A/C unit being directly above the bed (watch your head!) had sufficient space to lay out suitcase on a small desk, and didn't feel cramped. The shower was a step-in and very spacious (looks like they removed a previous tub, but that meant the whole shower and bathroom felt huge, despite actually being small) The room was meticulously clean, and staff (24hr check-in) were great, very welcoming. The area felt like a combination residential and hotel area, and was very easy to walk to public transport, food/coffee, and the Whitehouse/ national mall area. For a cheapo 2-star hotel booked for a layover at the last minute it was pretty good. Expectations were low, but it was advertised honestly and was clean and comfy. Definitely a good budget option for a solo traveller. (Can't comment on their bigger rooms...might be ok for group travel?)
It's a nice walkable location with clean rooms and kind staff.
It was a good stay for a good price
Good, simple, but ...
I was offered a basement room and I was not ready for this. It was OK because I was at the conference all day, but sometimes during the day I was in my room and could not lift my shades because you see the floor level of the street and a wall. But trhe bed was clean and room was clean.
It was nice, in particular the bed... My gosh the sheets! I need them.
It’s ok hotel. That’s it, there is bed and everything is too old. But it ok thanks
Terrible experience. Very dirty room at basement level, shower almost not working, very loudy. Avoid!
It was nice
Not professional nor room was ready
I love the location
There were BED BUGD in my room, and they are putting up a fight to refund me. DO NOT STAY HERE. It completely ruined my whole trip and I missed most of my conference trying to launder, steam, and plastic bag my belongings to prevent the spread from going home and to the new hotel I ended up leaving for.
It felt like old Europe, it is not a souless chain hotel, it is cosy and everyone is kind and helpful
This is an old hotel with small room in DC center. However, it is cheap.

Reasonable
A recommended place to rest in a wonderful city.
Great Spot
Friendly staff. Location is within walking distance of restaurants and a Whole Foods, and about a 10 minute walk from public transportation. I was able to check in early and the staff allowed me to store my luggage after checking out. The room was clean and there was plenty of hot water.
Too late to Check in at 4:00pm
This was a terrible property. My fiancé saw a rat on the property and would not stay there so I am out of this money now because of it. Would not recommend it
My son and I just stayed four nights at the district hotel on a sightseeing trip in Washington DC. It was substantially cheaper than hotels in the same area – – like hundreds of dollars cheaper – – and it was a great place to stay. Very convenient and we didn’t mind the 15 minute walk to the Metro subway. McPherson Square is the closest. The beds were comfortable the housekeeping services were very good and they did a good job cleaning the room each day. My only complaint is the lighting. We stayed in room 106 and I only had an overhead light and it was fluorescent bulbs. It was so dim at night. I asked the front desk if they had a lamp I could borrow but they didn’t. If they could improve the lighting so we could read books at night it would’ve been five star.
Hotel too small and AC not working well enough. AC could not be adjusted
The hotel has a 24hr reception..but it needs some uograde
I had a one bed, room was small but clean, the staff was really nice and professional. A nice selection of restaurants and stores within walking distance. I would definitely stay there again.
It is an excellent location for the price. There are many dining choices, a Whole Foods around the corner, lots of people and seemed very safe. The Metro was a bit of a walk, but it's not the best system. The 52 bus gave pretty good acess to the Mall.
Bear Necessities
I have selected this hotel solely for its convenient location, which met my requirements. It provides a clean space for rest, and while there are no specific issues to point out, there's also nothing particularly noteworthy to mention, aside from the price being lower than that of other hotels in the vicinity.
Enjoy the city and have a comfortable room for your stay.
👍
Clean place
District Hotel is an older property that has been well maintained and upgraded. My shower was first rate, gbed was good. 24 broadcast channels for free. It is not a 3-or 4-star hotel but is excellent value in Logan Square, walkable to many sites, with 3 interesting cafes around the corner. It was perfect for our short stay where we just wanted an inexpensive place to sleep with no frills.
A nice and affordable option.
Friendly efficient staff, reasonable rates. It's a little rundown and Freight around the edges, but was clean and well located. I would stay here again. You likely won't get parking there, I downloaded spot hero and found a great spot a couple hundred meters away for 30 bucks a night. They want a credit card deposit for $150 so be forwarned.
Service was great, clean rooms, free coffee only, but older building, small elevator with small door. No ADA.

Very inept staff- even with previous verification of check-in requirements and emailed credit card information and confirmation that our check-in was fine, we were still held up by staff on check-in and it took 2 hours to fix. Incredibly frustrating and poor management. I actually felt bad for the staff as they were very confused by the whole process. Cannot recommend this place at all.
This hotel was clean and conveniently located. The WiFi worked well (password is weak, so maybe use a VPN). The staff were very friendly and efficient. I would recommend you stay here if you want a budget friendly, no-frills hotel in Downtown DC
great budget hotel, perfect if you are on the go and just need a place to sleep. No frills and font expect any, but beds are so comfy!! There is no restaurant, but loads near by, White House only 20 min walk. Poor WiFi. Staff are great. I would stay there again.
Listen don’t look too far, worth every dollar !
I had delays in my flight checked in late . Amazing customer service shout out to the over night clerk he was amazing and friendly. I got a basement room and to be honest is so cozy, felt like I was in my own room at home. Very clean and comfortable bed . Cleaning service is great always checked in if I need something! The hotel was really really cheap and it was amazing ! I would recommend to friends and family. Listen no need to stay in a very expensive hotel this one is worth the money ! Everything is very close you have a huge option of food selections and walkable or just grab a local bike. If had to go back to D.C I would stay here again ! Thank you !!!
Cute area and clean basic rooms
Hotel is very clean and humbly but adequately furnished. Example: one shared microwave in the lobby, no mini-frigs. For the modest price, relative to the area, its a good choice for a place to sleep. Be aware that several steps necessary to access entrance. Would stay there again.
The owners obviously haven't invested any money in the upkeep of this property. If you have the extra $100 stay across the street at the Holiday Inn. The staff was phenomenal given the fact they are not provided the proper resources/training to perform well. This is clearly a poorly run operation.
Chose The District Hotel for its location. 10 min walk to Tge White House. Arrived early & they allowed me to check in. Lovely Thai restaurant just round the corner. Couldn’t have been better. Thank you.
economical
Older apartment but you are only there to sleep. Excellent clean room a touch small but otherwise excellent.
Capital Stay
Quiet. Safe. Abundant transport choices- local bus, taxi, Uber/lyft, and subway/train. Amazing shopping, food, and easy to get to mall. However, TV is analog in the room while the lobby tv is cable or digital. I was promised it would get fixed but didn’t. So, I missed all my favorite games.
Worst stay I have experienced. My room had no place to hang clothes or put luggage. It was a door that faced a bedroom with a bathroom (I am unable to attach a photo in the app). Total walking area was maybe 25 sq ft. Tiny window about 1x 2 feet above the bed. I asked receptionist for hangers and there was none. The light was on motion control and turned off if i didnt wave my arms above my head. There were about 4 or 5 wifi networks and none of them worked. There was a dirty sock under my bed.
Really enjoyed a recent stay in the District Hotel with my family. The hotel is old but has charm and is in an excellent location, which made it an ideal base for visiting Washington, DC. Staff were pleasant and friendly. The family rooms were a good size. Would recommend the District Hotel, in particular, if travelling with children and without a car.
Very friendly staff, clean room. Walking distance from the White House and Museums plus a lot option to eat and night activities within in walking distance with a clean and safe environment.
Overall the hotel needed work. Rom smelled like mold and the sheets were damp. 1 staff member at the desk dealing with other upset clients, for other reasons. Staff only found 1 sheet to give to replace damp ones in room. No other rooms available. Ended up going to a different hotel down the street, as i was grossed out and could not breath well due to the older of the room, even with fan on and windows open.
Good bare bones hotel. No frills, but clean and low priced.
Average property good enough for an overnight stay. More convenient if you drive.
Stayed on 4 floor. WiFi was not working at all, had to use hotspot from my cellphone. The walls are thin. The room was clean
OK
Let's be honest... the reason to stay here is because it's affordable. That's about it. The rooms are tiny, and not particularly nice. They are more or less clean and the place feels safe. The people who work here are polite but don't seem to have the tools or systems to do their jobs well. It's kind of like a glorified hostel. As long as your expectations are very modest, you should be fine.

The worst of this place is the staff. Front desk people are just the worst.
