Great atmosphere

A return visit, as we find the hotel handy to everything without being right in Rotorua. Clean comfortable room with good parking.

While our room was tidy and clean, the hotel was very tired and dark - it could definitely do with a facelift. We could hear noise coming from other rooms, and the whole room vibrated when a truck went past outside - for these reasons, I wouldn't stay at the Distinction again.

Only stayed one night and did not use all the amenities on offer, apart from the bar. Very comfortable and clean. Had a spacious room with separate bedroom. Would stay again.

I actually made a complaint to the hotel regarding the noise during the night of our stay. The guests opposite had left their door ajar and their kids were running up and down the corridor directly outside our room. Nothing was done, no member of staff intervened and although my complaint was acknowledged all I received was an apology for a night without any sleep. Also would like to draw attention to the dirty public areas, the hot pools were filthy. The hotel needs serious atttention and upgrading, frankly a bit grotty.

When we drove up the exterior was a little dated but inside there was a real feeling of luxury. Velvet seats in the reception area, chandeliers hanging from the ceilings. Our room showed a little bit of wear in places but overall it was well finished super quiet, clean and the beds were super comfortable. The staff were very helpful. As a family of five it was an excellent option for us and would highly recommend to anyone wishing to go to Rotorua for a family holiday.

Room is so old and not same with the pictures

This hotel which claims it is 4 stars has no air conditioning in most rooms but does not tell you nor does Expedia tell you when you order so beware. I hope that Expedia is responsible enough to either drop this listing or explicit or warn potential guests. It is unreasonable to pay almost $400/night for a room without a/c and not be able to sleep in 2024! It is also far away from the centre of action and an old and tired property. Stear clear!

For the price we had paid for one night, not having AC in the room and a fan which didn’t work properly. If turned on it would make a large whirring noise not letting you sleep the whole night. Didn’t even sleep the whole night as it was extremely hot and uncomfortable. Wouldn’t stay here again

It’s dated but clean. The air conditioner makes noise. The carpark has a security fence and feel more safe.

Such a great stay, the rooms were so lovely and comfortable. Such a quick walk to the surrounding Māori villages and geothermal walks

How comfortable the whole thing was. Me and my family will choose to come back our next family stay. The staff were very helpful and friendly with all my grandchildren some staff and cleaners stopped and talked to them which I found how friendly they all were. Thank you very much for the beautiful night and stay there.

Was nice and handy to where we needed to be. Was a bit noisey when trying to sleep think it might of been the air conditioning units and our glasses in our room had finger marks all over them so cleaners might want to make sure they check them when they clean but other than that was a good place to stay.

Enjoyable night at the Distinction

We enjoyed our stay at The Distinction and were happy to see that all the facilities were available such as Mr Yakitoris Restaurant and the Grotto pools. Handy location for anyone Biking in the Redwoods or visiting the Secret Spot Hot Pools. Good that cars have secure, off street, free parking.

The tired look of the hotels needs to be upgraded. Rooms are dark n gloomy but utilities like pools etc need to available for us and cleaned/maintained.

Pretty tired hotel. Could feel the springs in the mattress and the shower head was half blocked. For the price, I feel you should expect it to be a bit more comfortable.

We stayed for two nights but there was no room service. Breakfast buffet was vey nice.

The hotel room ws far too over priced for the quality and amenities. A lot of families stay there and it was outrageously over priced especially the buffet breakfast.

Comfortable and good value

The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. The room and beds were comfortable, the pool clean and accessible. Breakfast was a limited choice but tasty. The bathroom does need a revamp, with no ventilation it was very damp. It was disappointing that toiletries still come in individual plastic bottles and there is no obvious recycling opportunities. There is limited food from the bar although the in-house Yakatori restaurant is excellent. The location is a bit far out of the centre and away from most attractions.

Distinction Hotel needs external water blasting

Hotel staff were friendly, rooms were clean. The Hotel however needs water blasting done to it's external sign boards on top which have been neglected for very long. Sign board along the main road also needs attention. Thanks

We stayed for 3 nights, and were overly impressed, our room did have a funny smell when entering which was a bit off putting, but our room was clean tidy, and beds were super comfy. There was an annoying water running sound (life you could hear the next room showering) all through the night, which interrupted my sleep, but the hotel, staff were warmly inviting and friendly. We had to extend our stay, which they were able to offer the same deal which was good. My son also enjoyed swimming in the warm thermal pool. Many thanks xx

The property looks nice from outside. It reminds me of Europe. The lounge area is quite nice too. However the rooms can do with some maintenance. Paints peeling, Old carpet - not vacuumed thoroughly too. Table tops a bit dusty and the side table has a hole that looks meant for a table lamp. A bit noisy as well. Hope they'll do something to improve it.

Overall a fine visit. Details could have been improved. Not enough towels, cups etc and the promised ones never arrived. Cool pools. Cleanliness okay but again details could be improved.comfirter had marks on it.

Nice place to stay. Easy to book online. Shame car park was fenced off and couldn't be used. Front desk wanted visa details which was weird because I had already paid online. I said I didn't have one and they wanted eftpos details. Had to say I was not comfortable giving details when not needed.

Property was great Our room certainly needed a make-over and there were 3 lights out in the room ... large stain on couch ..not appealing to sit on

The property has a feel of disrepair and general "tiredness". Even small things such as paint touch ups have not been addressed and adds to the overall lack of maintenance around the property. This includes our "superior" room which had severely stained bathtub/shower, toilet and a burn stain on the wall where a light had blown out previously. There was also a stain on bed cover which was offputting. The room was not clean and smelt musty on arrival, perhaps not occupied in a while. Overall, disappointed with general state of the property and housekeeping. Staff were great however and helpful.

The pools were great. The Staff were helpful. The sauna wasn't always hot but the kids loved the pools & the Grotto.

The room was clean and beds were very comfy, alot of room for 2 adults and 2 kids. Loved that the pools were heated too. Staff were very lovely and helpful and food was delicious. Would have like a microwave, plates and utensils as we stayed 4 x nights but other than that, this hotel was great and we will be back

Me and my whanau enjoyed our stay and would stay there again we loved the staff the hotel was clean and tidy

Staff were very professional and friendly. The pillows were all too fat making it uncomfortable to sleep. The lift interiors look very dated, the chandeliers were covered in spiderwebs.

She is showing her age. The suite needed some repair and basic cleanliness like wiping down of menus is needed. Overall though a good stay. Reception staff were amazing.

My boys and I had enjoyed everything about the hotel, from the friendliest receptionist to the clean room, to the pool, spa etc. The boys really enjoyed their time and if was also their first time in a hotel and im glad Distinction was able to give them that experience.

Perfect for business

Big old hotel, although the rooms were well appointed, happy hour craft beer for $6 awesome, food average, service excellent, price was excellent. I would stay here again for business, everything you need for a night or two stay.

Don’t expect much from housekeeping....

The room was dark and dated. While they have tried to refresh it they have failed. Rooms are cramped with unnecessary chairs. During the 3night stay housekeeping came the first day but was minimal cleaning, didn’t replace loo paper or tissue paper and took all towels and mats but only left towels. Second day they didn’t come at all. Had to ask reception for towels and loo paper. At check in when I asked about parking, manager said parking was in an open lot next door but not secure and said most people park on the road outside. We chose the lot as road had just been sealed and full of loose stones, and had no trouble although some not so nice people always hanging around was of concern. Overall bad reviews - for price paid and Distinctions reputation in other cities not carried to this property I wouldn’t recommend it and won’t be back.

Quick one night family stay

Friendly and helpful staff, our room’s bathroom and the pool/spa areas are a bit dated and could do with a face lift, didn’t use any of the restaurants. Suited our needs for a quick one night stay.

1st night - Booked for 3 set up for 2- Room not cleaned properly. Woke 9-15 pm to finish booking in. 2nd night- Partner went to use towel found it had poo on it. No plug for bath. Felt very dissappointed.

Parking was a big downer. Need to change lights too dark and glum. Rest was great.

Overall experience was ok. It did t feel like a 4.5 star more like a 3.5 to 4 star. The staff was good but we had to continuously ask for more towels. The Japanese restaurants food was over cooked but was ok. But the bathrooms in the room needs a refurbishment, shower head was rusty, really old bathroom and sink had black rust on them. The pillows were hard to sleep on. The pool was good, the heated pols were ok too.

Great pool - nice temp for summer morning and evening swims and ok size. Nice calm surrounding. Was not happy with our initial room as it did not have air con, however the staff did swap us.

Loved the location. Staff were especially friendly and helpful.
