First off, the hotel is now the Plattendorf, not the 'Design'. Orbitz: you need to let them change it. A fair walk from the HB, the room was fine. The Italian restaurant attached has great Italian food. All in all a fine hotel (no free breakfast...)

Property was in a good location, minutes from Tram, the disappointing room size was a complete turnoff. The head of bed literally inches from toilet.

Property was really nice. It was well designed & furnished. They also had dining options listed on a chalkboard in the elevator along with hiking in the area. Staff was all really kind and helpful. Would highly recommend & would stay again.

We were in Zurich for a family wedding- this hotel was conveniently located for the venue. It is near the beach university and hospitals.

Wonderful service, spotless room & outstanding breakfast. Had to leave at 6am on checkout day & they prepared and left a big to-go breakfast for us to take along on the train. Easy transport via trams. Would definitely stay there again.

Staff at the reception was awesome Tim gave me a lot of great advises for the parking places and the borrow you umbrellas which is a great think. The location is super great! The only thing you have to be aware is that rest. Is not open on Saturdays…..

Nice hotel in a nice area. Very clean. Amazing Italian restaurant and amazing stuff. It is missing a mini-bar (small fridge) and AC.

Stayed one night for holiday. Was surprised that I had to pay extra for parking. Also wished the room had A/C. Staff very , very nice.

Horrible. Not the cleanest hotel, the pictures advertised online do NOT match the actual room. Or even the outside aspect of building. There is actually a university next door, not a grass area with an area of seating. A mini fridge would be ideal to keep bought products cold. Definitely would not recommend this hotel. Not close to downtown. Breakfast situation is very confusing and unclear, limited options. If you speak English- you have 1 tv station option to watch. Horrible!!!

The Plattenhof was away from downtown, in a quiet neighborhood near the University. I really liked the hotel, and the neighborhood. While we were there, there seemed to be some renovations underway which took the elevator out of service for part of the time, but I assume that is a temporary situation. That aside, the room was lovely, the neighborhood great, and the breakfast (included) very good.

Location was great. They not refill shampoo every day. (actually they did 1 out of 4 nights). Having a fridge and a kettle to warm water in room, could have been nice, actually useful.

Good for short stay

Has direct tram from central station and direct tram to downtown area and to the lake, neighbourhood is green and quiet as it is near university of Zurich, metress too soft, sunked in when lie on it and had backache next day but OK for one night with the reasonable price

Great location! Easily walkable to the old town center, and easy to get to from the airport via the tram (a bit of walking, but nothing too hard).

We have an early train trip to Lucerne 5/30 so we asked one of the lady in the front desk if we can eat breakfast at 7:30am .She told us that it is ok but also told us it was holiday that day but still we can have breakfast before leaving for our trip to Lucerne. On the day of 5/30 the lady at the front desk told us no breakfast since the cook will come at 7:30am . We were upset because there was no communication between each other about the agreed time of breakfast. It would have been ok if the lady said it in a nice way. but she was rude . Hoping this will help u improving your attitude towards your clienr.

Interior design and great service

Loved the interior design with wooden floors and furniture in burgundy and chocolate against a white wall. Low bed extremely comfortable. Relaxed atmosphere with books in bar area. Great service - thanks for the kettle. Walkable from the station and the old town in quiet and leafy neighbourhood.

Good location, nice ambience and friendly staff. Not always prepared for breakfast and dirty dishes sometimes left out on all other tables. On one occasion only cold water available for shower.

Hotel staff very helpful, went out of their way to assist with a trip to Mount Rigi planning train route for us and printing off itinery. Hotel is in Good location, just a short tram ride from City Centre. Clean, modern hotel.

Lovely hotel in Zurich

Lovely hotel on a quiet street just a 10 minute walk fron the old town. Room was a good size for a single & although the bed was low it was very comfy. Breakfast was included and there was a good selection of cereals, cold meats and cheese. Alongside options to cook your own eggs or pancakes.

I wouldn’t say location is that great for me at least. It was like 10 mins driving away. Otherwise the hotel is great if you need something cozy and relaxed.

Excellent location, close to tram & train. Don’t forget, stores close early on Saturday & major stores closed Sunday. Stores in the train station are open

Definitely a Swiss take on 3 star hotel. It's labelled 3 star but has meaningful touches you don't expect. Overall I recommend. It's walking distance to Zurich main station. Also lots of trams that you can connect to Airport directly or Zurich main. There is also a fountain just outside the hotel, to fill up your water bottle. Worth noting if you like a full English breakfast, you won't get that. Also my room did not have tea making facilities. Minor things really as this is such a great located hotel with truly friendly staff. I strongly recommend staying here.

Nice location, service could be improved.

A good, standard design boutique hotel; check in service could have been better, though. Unfriendly check-in, a bit condescending, not at all welcoming (which would have been nice after harrowing flight, bad weather and late arrival - common for all flights coming into Zurich airport that night during the storm). Misspelled my name on key card holder. Check in staff actually yelled in next room after checking me in. Wet and tired, I had no special requests other than to get to my room, get dry and go to sleep.

Wonderful hotel. Beautiful in every way - fabulous bathroom, comfortable bed, quiet neighbourhood. Great staff.

Nice hotel close to old town and hospital

Good breakfast, good restaurant for dinner, close to the old town to go out. Friendly staff, good wifi, a mixture of euro and swiss plugs in the room which was super helpful for my eu chargers! The room and bathroom were nice, and quite quiet but there was no aircon other than a very noisy (but cool, retro) fan so it was hard to sleep. But if it is not a warm night it would be perfect

A great find near the old town!

This hotel was hip, functional, and friendly...a super spot to rest, while still being able to walk to the atmospheric old town.

Great location, great breakfast

We really enjoyed this hotel. The breakfast was my favorite part! Croissants are so good, they also have meats, cheeses, fruits, eggs, pastries, coffee, tea, juices... really good! The staff was friendly and helpful, providing info about the area and a map. The neighborhood the hotel is in is nice an quiet and beautiful, but it's less than 10 minutes to walk to the Old City, perfect setup! The room was relatively simple but nice, clean, and comfortable. I'd stay here again! My only complaint would be no A/C, no big deal for us but might be hot in the summer.

Nice Hotel close to city

I had a very warm welcome from the staff, the room was very clean and comfortable with all possible commodities. The breakfast was excellent and I even had a meal at the Hotel restaurant which was exquisite. I definitely recommend this hotel to all.

This is a very nice hotel that seems smaller than it is. It is ideal for anyone sick of corporate chains. You feel you are walking into a guest bedroom when you arrive in your room. However it is a tram ride away from the lively parts of Zurich, more than a walk. For some people, rooms would seem small.

Pleasant hotel

Just outside the town, a short tram ride or walk. Staff were pleasant, we found the younger staff at breakfast more attentive.

Quite far from the center of town.

The staff at this hotel were very nice and couldn't be more helpful. And the breakfast was quite good; there was a big choice of breads, jams, fruit etc. However, the hotel was quite far from the center of town and very far from the train station, and if you've got a fair bit of luggage, the nearest tram stop isn't that close either. The hotel provided only one pillow and the light by the bed was not bright enough to read. One morning that I was there, it was only about 8am and cleaner entered my room without even knocking.

Quiet hotel not far from city center

Excellent breakfast and very quiet (there was a building construction site just next to the hotel but I was surprised how quiet the room was when I closed the window). The only down side was that there is no air conditioning in the rooms.

4 nights in Zurich

We stayed here as it was a reasonable price. the disappointing thing was that the lift did not have any buttons just a flat touch plate. as my wife is totally blind she was not able to use this on her own as she could not find any way of finding her floor. the food at breakfast was good and the service was friendly. the rooms had plenty of shelf space however it badly needs air conditioning in the summer months. the location was good 10-15 walk from the city centre. transport again was good there being a direct tram to and from the airport from a stop 5 to 10 minutes walk away.

Good location and friendly staff

This hotel is very easy to get to as well it was quite comfy . However the name is misleading as it should be just Platanoff instead of Design Hotel Platanoff, all around the signs ONLY say Hotel Platanoff NOT Design hotel, which can be misleading for cabs , the reception staff helped us to plan our trips around Zurich and also helped us choosing DVD of which they have a nice little selection, the breaskfast buffet was good and comprised of local delicacies , the cappuccino prepared by the breakfast staff was one of the best

Nice hotel 10 min walk to Old Town

My husband had a conference at ETH Zurich and wanted to stay within walking distance to the university, so Hotel Plattenhof was one of the few choices nearby. We were drawn by the modern design aesthetic of the rooms, and the photos did not disappoint. The rooms were very thoughtfully designed so they feel a lot roomier than they actually are. The hotel staff all are multi-lingual, which is a plus as I spoke no German beyond "guten tag". The breakfast buffet was so delicious, and the staff will make you coffee of your choice. The hotel is tucked on a quiet street, however, it is a block away from the hospital, so you might hear ambulance sirens in the middle of the night. The hotel is within 10-minute walking distance to Old Town (Altstadt), and 20-minute walk to the Zurich HB. There is a meat shop and a convenience store around the corner, which is nice since the large supermarkets (Coop and Migros) are about a 15-minute walk. There is also a tram stop 2 blocks from the hotel that will take you directly to the Zurich Airport, which is super convenient.

Friendly staff

Staff was friendly and welcoming during check in. Room was well designed with a nice little balcony. Located in a tranquil university area, yet if you know the way, the old town and the central are both within walking distance.

Chic but Unassuming Swiss Hotel near City Center

The front desk staff was friendly and knowledgeable, especially with dinner reservations. The minimalist design was perfect with the cool Swiss vibe and autumn weather.

Although the hotel was more expensive than I usually pay for three stars, my stay was comfortable. All members of staff were obliging.

Very nice hotel with a very nice breakfast. The room is not huge, but comfortable enough.

Comfortable stay

I enjoyed my stay at the plattenhof. The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed (although it was very low). Had all the necessary amenities and even a dvd player and a alarm. The location isn't bad was good for myself as I was visiting the university however to get into town involved a hill which was fine walking down but a bit of a pain on the return trip. All in all I'd recommend this hotel.

Nice hotel great staff

Very nice quaint and quiet hotel. Room is small but adequate. WiFi is great.Location is very good, easy walking distance to main attractions. Return walk is uphill and alleviates a little of the guilt from indulging in chocolate. Julia R and Sarah at the front desk are amazingly helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was very good. Only suggestion is to improve the coffee at breakfast. Would stay again!

This was by far the best hotel I've stayed in Zurich! Clean friendly and breakfast buffet with great coffee! Walking distance to the old town and direct to the lake! I will be back!!

Very Good Hotel

The staff were exceptional. Very friendly and very helpful. The room was a good size with some English channels which was good. Free parking and close to the tram for easy transportation.

Pleasant affordable hotel close to University

I have stayed here several times while attending conferences or project meetings at the University of Zurich. It is a short walk to the buildings I use, comfortable, pleasant, with a very good restaurant and a bar (very good) that serves food (very good food) until late (the other affordable hotels in the vicinity I've tried have no food except breakfast, and no bar). The staff are excellent. Good fast free wireless. Conveniently arranged bathrooms with plenty of shelf space. But the beds are very low (on platforms 6"/15 cm high), and getting up and down from the floor is hard for all but the young. The lobby is a few steps up from the street and the elevators a few steps down from the lobby, so this hotel is not for those with mobility issues or heavy luggate. The room lighting, in warm colors, is beautiful and a mood upper, though a bit too bright. Despite the downers, it's still my hotel of choice in this part of Zurich. Recently purchased by a boutique conglomerate, and I hope this doesn't mean it will become unaffordable to academics.

Excellent Staff with Good Location but............

Firstly , 10 on 10 to the staff of this hotel. Good Location near Platte tram stop connecting to Zurich Central....Avoid staying on Saturday Nights as neighborhood building terraces organize lot of parties causing sleepless night and spoiling the next day. Breakfast has very limited options and we were not satisfied but the staff that takes care of you during the breakfast is just awesome....

Loved this boutique hotel !

The staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating in every way. We liked the location which was in a slightly quieter area but close enough to access the city. The room was very comfortable. Can't recommend highly enough.

The hotel was in a nice university area. It was only a short walk from the light rail station (which you take from the Zurich train station). The hotel has a coffee shop and restaurant in it. The huge negative was that although the hotel is nonsmoking, there was a team club room below our room which was so noisy and smokey. Even with our windows closed the smoke smell came up and filled out room. It made it very uncomfortable for nonsmokers. Our clothes then smelled, the room smelled and it gave me a headache. The staff was not very helpful since the hotel was apparently fully booked. In the future, I would not stay there again.

Good value for a city hotel!

Our room was spacious, and the bathroom wonderful. My bed needed to have the mattress turned, so was a little lumpy. It was a great location, close to two tram lines, and in a lovely neigborhood near the University. The staff is gracious and helpful, and there was quite a nice breakfast included in our deal. The rooms are not air conditioned, but the staff brought us a fan for the unseasonably warm nights. The amenities were very nice. We really enjoyed the stay.

Central location, easy access by transit

This is a nice hotel right on the grounds of Zurich University. Breakfast is included which is decent buffet style. Fresh breads are always nice especially if you compare it to 'continental breakfast' in North America. Hotel staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. There is also a restaurant on the premises. Room was very nice and clean with all necessary amenities including a bath robe. However there is no AC which can be a downside especially if traveling during the hot summer days as I have. It gets very hot and hard to keep the room cool. That is one of the few downsides for this hotel. Also if you have a window on the small courtyard it's better to keep the window closed as it tends to stay a little noisy until about midnight. Very low bed, Swedish style which can be nice but not for everyone.

Great place to spend time in Zurich. Staff very friendly. Great value for the money. Walking distance into town. Public transportation 2 min. to walk.

Very quiet neighborhood, deli across the street, bar and cafe in lobby, and 6 minute walk to the Altstadt. It's a little out of my price range and worth it. It was my 3rd time staying at this hotel and I'm sure I will use it again when in Zurich.

Nice Hotel - A little remote from old town & city

No restaurants nearby and hotel restaurant closed, so had to order Dominoes Pizza to be delivered to our room :) Parking on site excellent, but needs to be requested. NO AIR CONDITIONING IN HOTEL - only a fan in room NO FRIDGE, which had to be requested. VERY VERY HOT IN HOTEL and rooms during a heat wave of 37-38C in June 2015 Good variety at breakfast.Elevator.

Friendly staff, hot room

We enjoyed the stay mainly caz of the staff, very friendly and helpful. The room is tight but in a very good condition, no AC or fan, yes it can get really hot. The rooms a bit small, which made me fell may be the hotle is overpriced but I do not have other reference in Zurich which is generally not a cheap place. The breakfast was very good. The wifi is very reliable, overall very good experience

The staff was phenomenal and couldn't have been more helpful. In fact every staff member we had contact with was great. It was easy walking distance from bus stop (just a block).

Great location and helpful staff!

We stayed in Zurich one night after a week of hiking. This hotel was perfectly located with an excellent Italian restaurant. The staff was so helpful and accommodating. Zurich was in the middle of a heat wave at the time and the manager gave us an additional room for the price of a roll away as she thought it would be too hot to have 3 people in one room. She also helped us with tram tickets and directions so we could swim in Lake Zurich like the locals. Was a very nice last night on a wonderful Swiss vacation!

Easy walking distance to the city centre, staff gs

We arrived in temperatures of 36 degrees to find bedrooms have no air conditioning, 1st night was terrible, however manager moved us to a much nicer room the next day which was a lot cooler.
