I stayed at this hotel mainly for its excellent location, which is ideal if you’re planning to focus your visit around the Vatican. It’s just a short walk from St. Peter’s Square, making it very convenient for attending Mass, papal audiences, or exploring the area at your own pace. The rooms are spacious, which is a plus in a city like Rome. However, the furniture and decor feel a bit dated, and the hotel would benefit from some renovation. That said, the room was clean and comfortable for sleeping. The breakfast was very good: a nice selection of sweet and savory items, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. Overall, it’s a practical, well-located option if proximity to the Vatican is your main priority. A good value, as long as you’re not expecting modern luxury.
Nice place to stay, great location, and the breakfast bar was very nice. And they make great cappuccinos!
traditional European furnished hotel, with friendly staff. awesome breakfast.
Just what I needed…
Wonderful location and just what I needed to relax. The staff was kind and remembered it was my birthday during my stay, very thoughtful.
This hotel is in great area within walking distance to fabulous restaurants and the metro. The rooms were clean and well kept and the staff is very friendly. It’s good for the price.
Charming and conveniently located family-run hotel in the Prati district adjacent to Vatican City. Breakfast on rooftop every morning is a great start of each day. The staff is friendly and service oriented. Best feature is the location - <10 minute walk to Ottaviano Metro, Vatican, the Tiber and (15 min) to Piazza Navonne.
The hotel is designed in an antique way, and ut makes it unique. Access is super easy and you are 5 minutes walk to Vatican!! I would recommend staying there.
Older hotel in the middle of it all. Walkable to the Vatican and many many other things to see and do. Plenty of food and drink options around this place. They have a really nice rooftop area for the breakfast crowd or to hang out.
Great price for the room.
The breakfast terrace
I have stayed here before. I love the location to Vatican City. I find it easy to walk to many sites. Buses are close by. The staff is very friendly. Ron, at the desk when we arrived, had a great sense of humor and was very helpful. We enjoyed our complimentary breakfast. They do make eggs to order if you ask. They offered us a cream filled croissant or chocolate filled each day.
Great location and friendly staff
An ok hotel but the entrance is too small. You have to climb a few steps to get to a tiny elevator. You have to surrender your key each time you get out & has to be buzz in each time to enter the building… Guest desk is ok & they offer a tasty breakfast for free. The location is a 10 min walk to the Vatican but at least a 30 min or more to other point of interest. Shops & restaurants are closeby the hotel.
Nice staff, the property needs an upgrade. Good location.
Good location for Rome. Property is old fashion on their style, they have to upgrade the key system and let the guests free to get in and out with key for instance. Breakfast was limited. The smell in the corridors and rooms is too strong. Check out time is 10:30am - quite early indeed. The room layout can be rearranged with a tv in the wall for example. A revamp to the hotel for the location is worth it.
The property positives included being right next to the gates of the Vatican City. There was a wonderful restaurant right next door called Zarzar. The breakfast was the best we’ve had provided by a Hotel and all of Italy. It was very very good. The room was small. Was not clean very well when we asked it to be. Staff is a little odd. The night person or early in the morning person looks like you just got out of bed. I was going to college classes.
Very cool spot. Stayed only 1 night. Helpful staff and convenient location for checking out the city.
This hotel went above my expectations for a three-star stay in an area near the Vatican. The staff was fantastic. The room was small, but was fine. Good internet signal, enough for Zoom meetings. Breakfast was a decent buffet. AC worked fast and well. One of the things I really liked is that it’s away from the really touristy parts of Rome, making it much more quiet. It was a relief to get away from that part of the city. At the same time, you could walk to the Vatican in 8 minutes, and to the Forum in 30. And it was a great walk over some beautiful bridges. That may be a little long for some folks, but it was good for me. (I noticed that the Rick Steves tour was staying there, so you know it’s a good place to be.) Yes, the decor is a bit dated, but I would happily stay in this hotel again. A very nice stay.
It could use just a bit of TLC. The staff are amasing. Bed are very comfortable.
The rooftop sitting area. The restaurant across the street was great too.
Very beautiful small boutique hotel. We loved everything about it. Rick Steve and his crew were also staying there. A delightful surprise.
This hotel is perfect being a walk or tram away from all the main attractions to give you a break from all the tourist madness. There’s so many restaurants and places to eat within a three minute walk of the hotel. The 24/7 doorman was helpful as a left at 3am for a flight and he helped me call a taxi. Would definitely recommend.
Extremely Friendly and Accommodating Staff
Wonderful staff. The young receptionist with the beard was very nice and welcoming; both the staff at the kitchen were friendly and polite, also the cleaning lady (who was originally from Romania) was super warm and kind. Liked the people with whom I encountered in the hotel.
Quaint little boutique hotel with a great service. Also a very good breakfast buffet.
Pleasantly surprised
Very nice! Friendly service, clean, excellent breakfast, and my silver member gift was waiting for me. I also appreciated being able to check in early.
Located within walking distance of St. Peter's Basilica and other Roman treasures, Hotel dei Consoli's 4th generation owner and her staff are cheerfully welcoming and attentively dedicated to their guests. The delicious rooftop buffet breakfast is hearty, generous, and beautifully presented, and the cleaning staff are efficient and very thorough. We appreciated that staff is available 24/7 and were helpful in answering questions.
Great location. Walkable distances from most attractions. Plenty of dining options. Comfortable hotel.
Location was awesome. Breakfast buffet is really nice.
Disappointed
Nowhere near 4*.Great location close to the Vatican but could use lot of renovations. We were put in very smelly room, we did not sleep all night, in the morning I phoned Expedia so they can contact the hotel and either to change the room or refund and I would go elsewhere. They phoned me back and said the receptionist agreed to change the room. The receptionist Robin was very rude, he lacks customer services skills, he said he did not agree to the change and if we wish we can upgrade to a suit and pay the difference. We contacted Expedia again and insisted that we need refund and wish to leave, Robin then came up with another room in all fairness was better but the shower does not work properly( At least there was no smell). The positive from this stay is the man in the café( Breakfast) he was very polite, and he will always ask you if you need anything else, the rest of the staff were also polite and courteous. Only Robin that seems to have issues with guests and does not understand that they are paying customers and he would not have a job if there were no guests.
Close to everything and quaint building. Room was very small and bed was not to comfortable but managed. Hotel front desk guy needed to smile more. Otherwise great stay and would love to stay again.
Great Boutique Hotel in the Heart of Rome with excellent customer Service !!!
Staff were friendly and very helpful, great breakfast, lovely hotel, I'll definitely stay here again.
Dei Consoli always very friendly and nice!
Best services
The property is a charming elegant hotel, that is very well maintained. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the location is very convenient to shops, dining and the Metro. I would highly recommend this property, especially for it proximity to not only the Vatican, but also the historic Center of Rome. The only suggestion that I would make is to keep breakfast, which begins at 7:30 a.m. available to 10:00 a.m., if possible.
Three nights in Rome
My wife and I spent 3 nights in Rome after a week of Cycling through Tuscany. Upon check in we were greeted by a very warm and accomodating staff. Everything was top notch... from the roof top terrace breakfast to the cleaning staff. We loved it and would definitely stay again. Also very close to the Vatican and great restaurants.
Smells bad
Perfect
Location was perfect. Host was very helpful! Breakfast was lovely! Would definitely stay here again when we return to Rome!
Definitely a home away from home, Laura was an outstanding host making sure I had everything I needed. Went out of her way to provide information of the best dining places in Roma, will definitely come back and stay at Hotel dei Consoli!
Staff very nice, great location and clean, the breakfast buffet could improve.
Traditional Italian style, lovely welcome on Reception, great location. Room was comfortable and breakfast was good
Basic but clean room. Buffet breakfast was ok but hot food selection should be hotter. Good location for the Vatican.
A very nice hotel. I has a nice charm. Breakfast would use some expansion in the variety but overall a pleasant stay.
What was good: great location nice staff free breakfast Not good: rugs smelled musty rooms are small tv channel selectionpoor
The location was great and breakfast was great. What we didn’t like was the pillows were to hard and no iron was available.
This Hotel is simple perfect. Close to everything and really good and safe district.
Great location. Close to public transport and restaurants.
Pleasantly surprised! Nice hotel and friendly staff.
Great place! Location! Location! Location! 5 min walking Vatican City.
It was marvelous!! Very clean hotel and helpful staff. Although the jetted tub was not working, the hotel itself is incredible, so I am not taking any points because of that. The location could not be better as it is walking distance from Vatican City. You can easily get to the Metro and visit the rest of the attractions Rome offers. Just across the street there is the best restaurant called Taverna Verrone, with owner Aldo and daughter Francesca, best place to eat, warm, with great food and very affordable. I am returning in one week, and fortunately will be going back to the same hotel!!
Would stay again 👍
We stayed on the the first floor in a deluxe room. At first I thought it was quite small and said so on the initial review. The hotel replied the same night and said they’d be more than happy for us to change rooms with no extra charge. However, we chose to stay where we were as we were only there for a few nights and actually realised the room was enough for us. After telling the staff that we were happy where we were, they gave us a token for a free drink in the bar which was very nice. Breakfast on the top floor was so pretty and everything was laid out clearly. However, I feel that there could’ve been more choices, but then again, it is only a small hotel so it makes sense. The reception staff were very helpful and recommended us where to go and how to get there which was very nice. The location of the hotel is brilliant- with retail shops, restaurants and transport services being very close.
Great atmosphere, nice room and convenient location. Breakfast buffet cold if you don't get there early
Good location, close to bus stops snd many restaurants. Room was very small but manageable. Very friendly staff. Breakfast was ok.
The quality of the rooms and the excellent service provided by the staff.
Though the hotel is a little dated, the location is perfect and the staff is very freiendly
Breakfast buffet was an added bonus. Located near Vaticacan city, shopping and restaurants. Hotel makes you leave your room key with reception for security reasons. Uses old fashion keys.
My check in wasn’t until 2pm, but arrived early at 10am they let us check in earlier 😃 after a flight of 16 hr all we wanted to do was sleep. I was extremely happy about that. Very very clean . They don’t have any irons, and I really needed one.
Fantastic Hotel. This a family run hotel. Laura and her lovely mother have created an absolute jewel! Laura’s mother is an interior designer (she looks pretty good too!) I got to admire her work during my 5 night stay there. The inside of this hotel is absolutely restored to perfection. The rooftop bar has great views of the Vatican dome. The bartender in the rooftop bar gave me a wine that was perfecto. He told me it was three different types of grapes that were grown in the Amalfi region. Not only was the wine good-it was also strong. They should use this for surgery! The wi-fi worked perfectly. The breakfast was plentiful and FREE! Laura speaks perfect English and her and her staff were wonderful hosts and answered all of my tourist questions to perfection. I got to stay in another hotel in the same neighborhood for one night during my stay (It was not too good)-enough said. When I go back to the Prati section of Rome I am only going to stay at the Hotel Dei Consoli-great hotel and an incredible value!
Our room was on a very busy corner and the traffic noise was unreal. I found the beds and pillows extremely hard and I like a firm bed. These issues were made up for by the incredibly patient front desk person on check-out. He went well out of this way to help us with the car service that we had booked. I might add that the car service was not the one that was arranged by the hotel. This gentleman handled all the details and that allowed us to spend a full day exploring. Wonderful!
Great location. Close to Vatican Museum, St Peter Basilica, Metro Subway, and other sights. Friendly and helpful staff. Maid service was excellent. Room was very clean. Excellent breakfast buffet on Terrace on top of building, open covered area, very nice.
Great location !!! Little cozy hotel. One block from Vaticano , close to shopping. We will be back !!!
great location!!!! little cosy hotel in the middle of Rome. One block from Vatican. We will be back
Room was elegant but small. Tv didn’t work. Radio didn’t work. Sink and bath plugs wouldn’t work on the mechanism. Jet bath controls didn’t work. I loved Rome I just wouldn’t stay in this hotel again even tho the location was good 5 mins walk to the Vatican.
Hotel is located within walking distance from Vatican City. Very friendly staff and cozy enviorement. I traveled with my husband and my baby. We loved it!.
Nice hotel, staff could be better. Expense to purchase food and drinks.
Nice Hotel
Perfectly situated. Close to all we wanted to see. Will be booking it again in 2 years when my youngest daughter is 40. The only complaint ,we only had our breakfast once and eggs not very nice or bacon so we went other places for breakfast.
Very comfortable, clean, and safe. Nicely accommodating with holding luggage till room was available.
Decent hotel in a great spot
Nice hotel in the lovely Prati neighborhood a short walk from the Ottaviano metro station. Lots of good shopping, bars and restaurants within a short walk. Not a large room, but everything we needed, including a jet tub, that we didn't use. Breakfast was included, acceptable, but could be improved with more variety.
Quaint small hotel in great location. Easy walk to many attractions.
Lovely hotel, very helpful staff.
Lovely hotel, very helpful staff. Clean rooms, excellent location.
Close to Metro Station.
Safe and walking distance to the Vatican. Rooftop bar is nice, tavern with good Italian food and drink across the street... perfect for a guy traveling solo.
This is my second stay at the hotel, first stay was a few years ago. Wasn’t made welcome at check in, no information was offered was just given key and pointed where rooms would be. Breakfast the lady who seemed to take of that never smiled or greeted. Although I must say the young lady at the bar in the evening was very nice and help and smiled she made up for the other two. Even one of the other guys wasn’t too bad and was peasant to us. Check out again the guy who checked us was on again and again very unhelpful. Feel very disappointed this time, won’t return to this hotel, shame other than rude staff it’s a nice hotel in a good location.
Central and a walkaway from Vatican.
On arrival the receptionist couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Hotel is 10-15 mins. walk from Vatican. Very nice rooftop bar/restaurant also with very friendly and helpful staff.
Nice hotel. Typical breakfast. Fantastic rooftop patio. Rooms a bit cramped even for Rome.
Great location near Vatican.
Small rooms but clean. Walking distance to Vatican and close to all of central Rome.
Great place
Great hotel walking distance to the Vatican. Friendly staff and a great breakfast. We eod stay again.
Pleasant hotel near to the Vatican
Covering 4 floors the hotel Dei Consoli is a compact but very welcoming and clean hotel. Our room was compact but comfortable. We were out from 9am through 10pm anyway exploring Rome, so it was just used as a sleeping base. We did not use the room to relax in during the day/evening, so it suited us just fine.
Convenient stopover
Slightly old fashioned, but no problem with that.
Decent hotel
The room size is decent small people. Ameties is a bit lacking. They don't have hair conditioner, body wash and mouth wash, basic needs that a 4 star hotel must have. But in fairness the staff are nice. And they have good location, near the metro and 2-3 blocks away from the Vatican city. And lots of shopping area. Restaurants is accessible too. We like our room view. I think this hotel is on 3 to 3.5 star not 4.
Vicino Vaticano(near to St. Peters)
The Hotel is in a good location, with easy access to metro, tram and many of the famius city sites. St.Peters is less than ten minutes walk, with Castello San Angelo and Villa Borghese within walking distance. There are good bars & Restaurants in the vicinity, together with Piazza Navona, Trevi and Piazza Venezia all within eazy reach.
Convenient location; service and cleanliness OK
Hotel is very conveniently located near the Vatican and metro / tram / bus links, which made getting around Rome for the weekend very easy. However, the hotel room was very small (which is fine if you just need a bed) and the duvet had blood stains! There is only one person manning reception at a time, which for the most part is fine as they say it stays open 24hr so you can show up whenever. If you have a late night (or if dinner goes late) and you show up after 11pm, sometimes the person manning reception has stepped away and you're left waiting for them to get back just to get inside. Additionally, the breakfast served upstairs (which has a lovely balcony for when it's nice and sunny out) leaves much to be desired. Not worth it and better to head out and grab a coffee and pastry elsewhere! The Wi-Fi is also quite slow (it's fine for general checking of emails, etc.) and the bathroom looked like it needed to be tended to as the shower head was broken. All in all, it's fine for a cheap place to lie your head down and use it as a convenient location to get around the city.
great location very close to the Vatican
excellent breakfast....beautiful area...very close to The Vatican and Saint Peter Square
There is zero parking
Charge for breakfast should of been free
Nice hotel close to the Vatican.
Had a great time in Rome and took a couple of side trips to Florence and Naples.
Great location & very clean
Pros: Perfect location - close to all attractions/tours, helpfulness of reception staff, cleanliness Cons: very minor points that would not put me off returning- no tea/coffee facilities in room, only one English TV channel I would definitely recommend this hotel & stay again. Staff very pleasant and helpful with directions and recommendations. Rooms are a bit dated but very clean - they are cleaned every day and fresh towels daily also. Bed is comfy and extra pillows etc are available, if required. Toiletries provided & small mini bar in room with water and soft drinks, price list provided. Breakfast is not included in the price (€8) and is not great, although it is served on the rooftop which is beautiful in the morning, we ate it once and enjoyed the view. There are lots of shops and restaurants in the surrounding area and felt safe wondering around.
nice hotel. superb location, will come back
enjoyed every minute of the place and location, close to Vatican city and castle San Angelo.
Great location
The hotel staff were pleasant and very helpful. The hotel decor is a little dated but the place is clean. The reception area is on the first floor but you need to climb a flight of stairs with your luggage to get to the lifts which will take you to the 1st floor reception area. There is a rooftop bar area open from 6pm - 11.30 and breakfast is served in the same area from 7am - 9.30. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel because there are lots of eating places around including next door to the hotel. There is no swimming pool, gymnasium, spa or any of the recreational or entertainment you would expect from a four star hotel.
Nice hotel super close to the Vatican
A nice hotel, conveniently located within a few hundred meters or so of the Vatican City. About what you'd expect for the price. A reasonably sized room with a nice bathroom. A nice breakfast each day on the roof terrace, although if you're staying more than a few nights you'll probably want to go elsewhere for some more variety.
Close to Vatican
Great hotel that is easy to get around. Walking distance to Vatican & easy access to Subway. Beautiful view from rooftop baloney - great with breakfast or at the evening.
Hotel Dei Consoli - 5 night stay
Overall the hotel was adequate for the price. The location is excellent, within walking distance of the Vatican. The buffet breakfast was a bit limited for the hot food. Scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. Could have done with hash browns and beans as we are vegetarians. Fruit, pastries, cakes and juices selection was good. There was no kettle in the room which was a bit disappointing. The plug hole in the shower emitted an odd smell but it was not too bad. Room was cleaned everyday with fresh towels.
NOT a 4 star hotel!!
The hotel's location is convenient to the Vatican. The staff are friendly and nice. However- This is an old hotel. It is worn out and the dingy bedding and over all dankness of the hotel was a disappointment. All the spaces in this hotel, even the check in area, is very tiny and cramped, very difficult to maneuver in this hotel especially if you have baggage/luggage. You have to get it up a flight of stairs to reach the elevator. At best this is a 2 maybe 3 star hotel at best. It is definitely NOT a 4 star hotel. That rating is very misleading.
Right place in Roma if you are Vatican bound
Hotel staff upgraded us to a better room due to a maintenance issue in our planned room for free. Breakfast is very good. Roof breakfast and bar are delightful.
Nice hotel, close to Vatican Palace, bus and metro
The hotel is 500 meters away from the Vatican Palace and the metro and bus stop. It's a peaceful neighborhood. There is a very nice bar under the street corner. The hotel's roof bar is very nice. I enjoyed having breakfast here in the morning for a few hours. "The hotel staff are very friendly, experienced and interested." The room was a little small, but it was enough that I was the only one. Internet was free and speed was not bad. I could hardly watch my TV, there was one channel for what it was :) But the hygiene and the change of sheets were given importance to the shakes and the room was clean. I wish there was a larger lobby of the hotel. On the other hand, I was satisfied with the travel I made with Travelocity. 'Airport Shuttle' chosen between airport and hotel is very useful, I would recommend. Otherwise, it is not possible to reach the hotel door outside of the taxi and this saves a lot of time. And it's affordable! Although the plane was my own (from my country) airline, they gave me a 'very good seat'. I went to the side of the window on the way to the exit, and the two seats on the side were empty. It was not possible to get these seats through the airline. I guess this is the difference in Travelocity.
Fraud
A lot of fraudulent activity within this hotel and its management
Claustrophobia Beware!
Very cramped room, bathroom, lobby, elevator, etc. Close to shopping and good eats though.
Nice hotel
Nice hotel and fabulous location for shopping and the Vatican. My second visit. Good breakfast and good sized room.
Great for the Vatican Museum and St Peter's
Traditional style hotel with compact but comfortable rooms - we had a spa bath which was very welcome after a long day travelling when we arrived. Staff were very welcoming and helpful when we left luggage to collect later on the day we left. The roof terrace for breakfast and drinks was great- lots of choice for breakfast.
