The ad promises so much more. This place is a dump. The worst part was Expedia was no help.
Hotel in the jungle
After a week on the beach I thought this hotel would be a nice change. Wrong. No fault of the hotel but a taxi took us from Dangriga to the hotel, 13 miles, and changed us $60.00USA. I had emailed the hotel asking for a driver to pick us up, they responded they could but no driver came. The first impression of the hotel was that it was in need of repairs. There was no restaurant or bar as indicated in the information online. Since we didn't have a car and the ride had been so expensive to get there, we were stuck there. A staff member was kind enough to bring us a couple of beers and offered to take us somewhere to eat. We declined as we were very tired. My thoughts had been that we would have a relaxing stay in the jungle with food and bar in our hotel. No breakfast was offered either as is stated in the ad. We left after 1 night even though I had paid for 2 nights. The shower was a good one and we did appreciate getting cleaned up after 3 days sailing.
Description on websites not quite accurate
This hotel is in a good location near waterfalls, zip lining and beaches. However it’s right off the highway therefore can get loud at night. Don’t go to Dangriga as there is nothing to offer, take the extra time and drive to Hopkins. Based on the website there was supposed to be a restaurant/bar however this was not true and we only found out the evening we checked in. The owner explained that it was closed 6 months of the year. He told us to drive to Dangriga which was about a 20 minute drive. Thankfully we had rented a car so we were able to find a place to eat and get supplies. This hotel needs a little TLC as it seems a little rundown and pictures and description on website are not accurate or current. I’m not one to complain but it would have been nice to know this prior to showing up there.
Great location, wonderful owner operators
The Inn also operates their own tour business, got to go on 4 different tours.
This hotel is located 3 hours from Belize city.
I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. They did not clean our room everyday, the mattresses were really dirty and their is a camera on the second floor in room 8 pointing right into the bathroom.. Please no one stay here it's horrible
Clean and friendly
Short stay at this hotel. It is clean and staff were very friendly. Few amenities, and not much nearby. Great as an in between destinations stay.
Rodwell was a great host. He took me around town and made sure I was completely comfortable during my stay. I couldn't have asked for a better host.
Convenient
Motel is convenient to access. Close parking. Staff was a pleasure and very helpful.
Made reservation, no room available, no notice.
We reserved and paid for a room via expidea over 90 days in advance. We arrived as scheduled to find out an event was booked at the hotel for that night and we were bumped from our room. I find that reasonable. Go after the big fish, I get it. What I don't find reasonable was that we were not informed of this until we arrived at check in, less than an hour til sunset. I checked my email just 4 hours prior to arrival. The manager was very nice and respectful. He arranged a "comparable" hotel for us less than 10 miles away. We were ok with this. When we arrived at the "comparable" hotel, we found out that the price was almost double what our original room was. We refused it and the woman at the second hotel called a third hotel and verified price. At this point it was dark. Navigating a foreign city such as Dangriga in the dark is not fun. We got settled into a room, and all was well, but we stayed in the city, which is not what we wanted. If we had at least 6-12 hour prior notice none of this would bothered me at all. The Macaroni hotel looked pretty nice, and the staff was pleasant, and I'm sure our stay would have been great, but they dropped the ball big time.
100% Belizean owned and run - a wonder fulplace!
If you are looking to get away from the resorts and want a truly wonderful, 100% Belizean stay, the Macaroni Hill View Hotel is for you. The hotel itself is the home that RJ and his family loved in growing up - but it has been expanded to include more rooms and an incredible, two story rooftop area for the bar and restaurant. While I was there, it was raining pretty much the entire time, but it was nice sitting up on the roof, taking in the amazing views and watching all the birds and wildlife. Since the family is local, they know a ton of history and facts about the area and Belize in general and can hook up some great tours. I went zip lining in Bocawina (in the pouring rain!) when I was there and it was AWESOME. Again, this is not the right hotel for someone looking for the luxury resort side of Belize, but if you want a real local taste and some awesome natural beauty around you, you shouldn't think twice. My stay at Macaroni Hill View Hotel was sandwiched between staying at two 4 and 5 star resorts and it was absolutely the highlight of my trip.
Horror
We arrived at the facility, and were in total shock. The Hostel was in total ruin, looking nothing like the pictures on the internet. We went inside and found the lobby in no better shape, bedding Matterest piled up in rooms, filthy dirty. Was in shock.... did not stay. Don't understand why these agencies don't check out the places they are recommending.
Dilapidated, dirty, run-down
We arrived late, in part because of a lack of street signage in Belize, but the staff welcomed us eagerly, and we were shown to our room upstairs. As we proceeded upstairs, it was obvious that the hotel was in a state of severe disrepair, with peeling paint everywhere, broken fixtures, and broken furniture strewn about. The overall structure appeared shabby and was unkempt. When we entered our dimly lit and musky room, my wife pointed out the mold and mildew covering the cloth lampshades on the fixtures with out light bulbs. The springs in the mattress were like little spears in our backs. There were dead bugs all over the tiled floors, mold and mildew in the shower, no on-site food or drink, no breakfast food in the morning, no amenities... If I had not lost my phone, I would have posted pics of some of this. There is a big difference between nasty-dirty and just run-down. Cleanliness doesn't cost anything, other than a little effort. A bulldozer might be the best option here. This hotel reminds me of the seedy, low rent, cheesy inner-city motels you would see in the movies in the 50's and 60's. For sure, our worst travel experience yet.
Bouncing through Belize
A fun hotel a little primitive but nice people. The rooftop decks offer a great view and are probably a great party on the weekend
A Major Fraud!
Rooms are old and seems like an abondoned building (pictures on website are from the opening day!). You will find spiders web on your rooms. No toiletries at all, Wifi Works only on first floor, refrigerator almost falling apart with TV set over it (unable to view a program clearly). Food was bad (reheated meal), no sodas. Bed was uncomfortable, you where able to feel the springs! Definitely not worth what I pay for!
ghetto
Room was ghetto, ac worked but dripped water all night. Room shown on sight was not what I got.
Attentive Bed & Breakfast Atmosphere
My family (husband, 2 adult daughters) and I spent 4 nights at family-owned Macaroni Hill, which has a spectacular view of the surrounding jungle but is a distance from any commercial area (which we realized later was a real plus). Hotel is very safe, the food is simple but tasty, and they will help plan your excursions. The sons can provide transportation and accompany you on the tours/outings (roads are horrendous in Belize --massive pot holes everywhere & the country's poverty can be intimidating). One night the other guests and my family joined a wedding reception held on the hotel veranda-- we danced away to the local music, immersing ourselves in the local culture/people. Unbelievable fun you would only find in a small lodging where all guests mingle & feel comfortable.
Wasn't expecting 5 star but was horrified at what it was. Very expensive for a dump. Advertised fridge in room, there was but could not be used as no accessible outlets in room, would have had to stretch the cord around the corner through the door into the bathroom to use. Bathroom had rugs that appeared dirty and bathroom smelled of urine. Toilet rocked! Couldn't sleep in the queen bed with my husband because mattress was so poor the springs were sticking us. Room was very small with a queen bed and set of bunk beds crammed in. Very dreary. Even though we had made reservations on line and pre-paid they didn't seem to know we were coming. On check- out they tried to argue that we hadn't pre-paid. They finally found our reservation in their junk e-mail box. Pictures look much better than the reality. Someone else was checking out at same time and I noted that he paid half what we did which was about what it was worth.
Hotel located in the jungle region in Belize
I was disappointed in my stay and the conditions of this hotel. If you get on their website it appears quite charming but I felt the room was unclean and conditions shabby.
A large family home converted to Bed and Breakfast
We enjoyed this very much. Family run home, we were welcome to hang out in living room on 1st floor outside our room. Very friendly and helpful. Just 12 miles out of Dangriga makes it a great location for exploring both the coastal town as well as inland jungle interests. Building is a little dated (not like a high end hotel) but very comfortable. They have made a rooftop restaurant ... great view and excellent food.
