This riad is located at a walking distance from jemaa El-fnaa square & the riad is located at a place where you can enjoy the real history of marrakech, place was pretty clean & staf Ahmed & Fatima were very nice & cooperative people
Never checked in, poor service
Never got in. The listed hours said check-in until 1am. I messaged the hotel in advance stating that our flight would land at midnight and we would arrive at 1am, which is what happened. Had to pay a local to get guidance from the main street since directions were sorely lacking. Nobody answered the door after knocking multiple times, somebody answered the phone (when a neighbor provided the phone number) and said they would come by but never did. After at least half an hour of waiting we finally knocked at some nearby hotels and one of them (can't remember the name, Googlelocation J2QC+RHP) let us in and provided us a private room and breakfast for $70. I was told the next morning by our new host that the old host had contacted them (not me!) and said we could come by for our 2nd night, but I was not interested after the poor experience. I was never contacted by the hotel myself. Maybe they are better if you show up during daylight hours, but that was pretty bad service considering I had kept them informed as to our plans, and considering that the late night flight arrivals seem to be very common.
An authentic riad in the heart of the old city. Complimentary breakfast in the courtyard was lovely way to start a day of wandering the souks. The staff was friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!
Owner neglect
A perfectly located Road in the Medina , yet in need of tender loving care to bring up to a descent standard. The owner has failed to maintain this lovely old place as it has enormous potential under the right stewardship.
terrible riad
Terrible riad! Check-in was unfriendly, full payment in cash for our stay was demanded before we saw our room, no receipt possible. Hotel was shabby, neglected, worn, not so clean. Lights did not work, no proper toilet seat. Noise downstairs started at 3am. All electricity was turned off in the rooms during the night so there was no lighting, (we had to use the light on our mobile phone to use the bathroom), power was not turned on again until we demanded it at 7.30am. We could not shower because hot water was cold, it started as just a trickle then none at all.
While the people are nice, I was very disappointed in the quality of the ryad itself. I don't expect a lot in Marrakech, but the room was extremely disappointing. The toilet seat was handmade out of unfinished wood. The fixtures were falling off the wall. There was about 12 seconds of hot water during a cold week in Morocco. I can't recommend this place.
Abdhull was a fantastic host, he was super friendly and helpful, the place was exceptionally clean, I just found it cold but probably due to time of year
I found this riad to be a calm and lovely oasis. The location is great--everything is within walking distance. Inside, the hotel is very quiet and removed from all the hustle and bustle of the medina outside. Ahmed the manager is very kind and was always concerned that we were having a good stay. The breakfast is good, with more food than we could eat every day and Ahmed was very accommodating to our changing breakfast times. We very much enjoyed our stay here.
Fantastic experience - would highly recommend!
We had a wonderful stay at Riad Dar Moulay Ali! With a traditional riad feel the interior is stunning and has an authentic traditional Moroccan feel. The area is fantastic, being so central in the medina did mean we would hear the mosque at any time of day that call to prayer was on, however, it added to the experience and it was just a short walk to the centre square and just a step away from the souks. During our time we walked to all the tourist sites, museums, palaces etc and the location of the hotel definitely helped in our ability to do this. Service, cleanliness etc etc was fantastic, new towels every day, big room, air con if we wanted to put it on and breakfast was delightful. Our host was an absolute angel! Ready to help us out or answer any question we may have. On the first morning I said I didn’t drink coffee and from then on he remembered every morning to make mint tea just for me! One morning we were rushing and he let us take breakfast on the go. All staff were extremely kind and welcoming, always seeking to say hello even if they couldn’t speak the same language as you! I had a wonderful time in Marrakech and the riad and the generosity and helpfulness of the owner acting as our host was just wonderful! I highly recommend this hotel. Thank you so much for having us!
The riad experience is one unique experience. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. The WiFi was very good. The riad was close to the market Square and the koutoubia mosque
A charming traditional dar/riad only 50 m from the Souks in the old Medina. The rooms are set around a very peaceful and tranquil open-air courtyard, with a swimming pool and small trees. You wouldn’t know that you are in the middle of the town it is so peaceful. Amazing views of the minarets and mountains from a lovely roof-top garden. This is all that we wanted and more. So much better than staying in a modern hotel in the new town.
Keep it in your list for Marrakesh
Perfect location inside the Medina. Quiet riad (unless you stay in the room near the kitchen) where you can relax in the terrace (unless they tell you about that the day before you leave the riad). Huge breakfast. We took an excursion from the hotel which was not what we expected (not their fault at all) but the price was better than outside. Overall, a good option.
Nice setting, better than the average throw-in breakfast. Clean, functional, bed lacking in comfort though. Good value overall.
I want to come here again!
Amazing stay, the riad is very beautiful! Conviennt just in and around the medina. Good classic Moroccan breakfast! (You got to love bread) The hosts are all very nice! They speak Arabic and French fluent. Little english but they understand enough to get by! Loved my stay!
A cool Riad in the heart of the Marrakesh Medina with friendly and helpful staff. It's a bit worn but a great experience for the price.
Perfect location and friendly, helpful staff
airport pick up was great as we were escorted to our hotel/riad which was right in the medina. The room was bigger than the one we had booked. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were helpful and friendly.
Decent value, good location, beware of creep owner
The location of the hotel is incorrect on google maps which made it quite difficult to find while in the confusing medina. It is approximately 5 minutes walk away from the spot, which is a nuisance. Upon arrival, the owner stressed the payment of a tax (5 euro/day) and asked us to pay in cash, then immediately pushed excursions that were higher than market value on us. He is a creepy fellow and a bit on the shady side. The hotel manager is a sweet man and very kind, and cooks a terrific breakfast. He is very accomodating and helpful when he is around. The water in the shower takes quite long to get to a decent temperature, and the beds are quite uncomfortable. The safe did not work but he did give us the key upon request which was good. The proximity of the hotel to the square is great, but beware of shady characters if walking home late at night. Overall, the stay was decent and of good value. The place is not ideal but certainly not overly expensive for what it is. The owner is a weird dude but as long as you keep away from him, you’ll have a fine stay.
Central, yet wonderfully peaceful riad
We had a very happy stay in this riad. Friendly staff, and a peaceful safe place to return to after sightseeing and browsing in the souks. Central Heating worked well, which we needed in February, when mornings and evenings were chilly. Comfortable, clean rooms all open onto the central square courtyard so typical in Marrakech. A white ornate balcony runs all the way around the upper level, also looking over the courtyard. Palm trees and creepers stretch up to the blue sky above, a pool lies peacefully in the centre, inviting you for a plunge at the end of a hot day. Breakfast is in the courtyard is fresh round loaves of bread, honey and jam, traditional Moroccan pancakes, and an omelette straight from the stove. Freshly squeezed orange juice and copious coffee and tea. Dar Moulay Ali is a perfect base for visiting anywhere in the City, with its palaces, museums and gardens. Also the tanneries. It is to the north of Jemaa-el-Fna, and walkable distance to the Majorelle garden.
An Oaisis In A Busseling Location
An oaisis in a busseling location. Beautiful accommodations and a wonderful staff. A bit difficult to find even using Google Maps.
Great little place
This was the second time that we stayed here and I will keep coming back. The riad is very peaceful and tranquil which is well needed after the hustle and bustle of Marrakech. The rooms are cleaned every day and there is a roof terrace that you can use to soak up some rays and relax.
Great location and great staff
A little difficult to find as Google maps had the wrong location, it is in an alley off rue sidi el yamini. once we found the place (with the help of a local who requested a tip) we thoroughly enjoyed the hotel. Ahmed was very kind and helpful. The hotel is as pictured, no nasty surprises. It is located very close to the main square yet still quiet and peaceful inside the riad.
Beautiful Riad, close to Jemaa el fna
The hotel staff, Ahmed and Fatima ,were great always willing to help 10 out of 10 for their hospitality. Good location, safe, quite area with local shops minutes away. Nice room size with very comfortable beds (I normally hate hotel beds). Good breakfast however, it was same everyday which did not bother me too much. Just don't expect breakfast buffet like a 4 star hotel. Only reason would give the hotel 4 out of 5 was the wireless internet was poor. Can get cold at night so make sure you put the heating on before you leave in the evening.
Week in Marrakech
The riad is a little tired and needs some updating. But for the price, location, quiet rooms, room size and friendly service it it is a very good value. Hamand provided great service to the guests.
traditional guest house in medina
This is a traditional Moroccan house converted into a hotel, like so many in Marrakesh, which is quite nice with rooms around a courtyard. They overbooked the hotel; so, they made me stay in an inferior one next door, managed by the same people. That one had also dorm rooms and the problem with the courtyard that looks nice is that everyone can hear any noise anyone makes sitting in the courtyard. After the first night, they put me in a nice room in this one I am reviewing. No dorms here and was quite quiet. It is located in the labyrinth of the medina, the heart of Marrakesh. If you order dinner at breakfast, you will be given a HUGE and excellent dinner. If you are two, order one and split it. The one big problem I had here was the very poor internet service. It might have been a Marrakesh thing, rather than this hotel in particular.
very well come
very good location and good, polite and kind staffs. I suggested to stay here for your visit of Marrakesh.
Bad over all
we booked in advance three weeks earlier go to Morocco they tell us we have no reservations even though we have confirmations saying booking confirmed. Had to book at anther hotel loved it.
Charming Ryad, great location
We received a warm welcome with hot tea (impressively served!) upon arrival. The location was perfect, just 5 minutes from Jemaa el Fna, near Mohammed V, an excellent art boutique, etc. The owner and all the staff were helpful and friendly. They were quick to help with laundry services, giving us a map, and suggesting possible day trips. The breakfast was superb, and the rooftop terrace was lovely. It would have been nice to have fresh towels over the course of our 5-day stay, and we did not approve of the worm-like insects that regularly invaded our bathroom. However, overall we would highly recommend this ryad and would certainly visit again.
The housekeeper Fahtima is a very lovely amd passionate lady, though i can only use a little bit french to communicate with her, but she is so nice to show us around the riad and make us very nice mint tea. Other staffs are also very friendly!
A place where you can take a rest
I stayed in Dar Moulay Ali with my best friend and we had al Great time! The Souk is around the corner. The breakfast was really perfect. I have slept like a baby. You don't hear the noise of the streets. The Riad is also loveley decorated, Good for some Moroccon pictures.
Great house lady
The house maid was fantastic fun; she counldn't speak a word of english and we couldn't speak a work of french yet she managed to make us laugh and smile everytime we saw her.
Great little place in Marrakech
Great little Riad. A bit of a walk to the souks and square but the couple that run the place are lovely, and it was the best breakfast we had during our stay in Morocco. The room was clean and air conditioned and the roof top patio was lovely. We were there just before peak season so it was a little lonely, but other than that no complaints.
Nice hotel well situated
We had a lovely stay in this hotel whch is very conveniently situated very close to the Medina. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the owner, though shy was pretty friendly once he opened up :)
Good value for money
Good value for money, very pretty, comfortable. It seemed family run, and it was quite a nice feeling. the night porter is a real character, a bit noisy while on his phone calls, especially in the early morning. Great location, 1 minute from the Souks, but tucked away in a small alleyway. No noise from neighbours, great roof terrace.
Interesting place not sure if I would stay again.
Guy working there is nice but tries to rip you off with everything. (Taxis, room price, food ect..) The place itself is decent for the correct price
Decent Place to Stay for the Price
Walking distance to Djemaa al Fn.. Interesting room interior.. Very friendly and helpful staff.
average
The man works in there he is nice. The room just average.
A calm oasis in a crazy city
This was my first time in Morocco (And outside of Europe) and I was travelling by myself for a few days to explore this crazy city. After a short taxi ride, and a walk down a suspicious looking alley way, I arrived at this beautiful traditional Riad. After getting some mint teas and filling out the forms I was able to nestle down in my room. The Riad is right beside the Souks but you wouldn't think it as it's so quiet.Breakfast is simple but filling including bread, jam, cheese, honey, pancakes and omelettes topped off with delicious coffee and fresh orange juice. The hosts were very accommodating and generally pleasant to deal with (Especially Madame Fatima). If I was to return to Marrakech, i would definitely book here again.
Convenient and Recommend
Breakfast is good but you can not have breakfast if you have join the desert tour since it will set off at 7:00 in the morning. It is close to the big market only about 5 mins walk. Wifi is good.
Excellent riad in the Medina, close to so much!
I thoroughly enjoyed the 3 nights I stayed with Abdul and Fatima. The breakfast was amazing each morning, fresh orange juice, eggs, crepes, cheese, and the best coffee I had in Marrakech, honestly! The hosts are genuinely delightful people and the riad is clean, with comfy beds. It is secure, and it is close to several nice shops in the Medina as well as to Bazaar cafe, too which is excellent. This was my first trip to Marrakech and the central location of Dar Moulay Ali, plus the good rates and excellent food make it a great place to be based when seeing the city.
Nice quiet Riad close to the action
We booked 2 nights here at the start of the trip and were so impressed with the friendliness of the staff that we came back a week later for our last night before flying out of Marrakech. The staff remembered us and upgraded our room for no extra cost! The bigger room was a welcome relief after being in the desert, but the standard room was more than comfortable. The Riad is a bit tricky to find at first because most taxis can't drive past the inner wall of the medina, however once you're there the proximity to Jemma el fna is great! You can be in the bustle of the markets one minute and then quickly retire to the stillness of the Riad when it all gets too much!
A great place to stay!
As a solo traveller it was very important to me to stay in a hotel with good reputation, therefore, after some research I have chosen the Dar Moulay Ali riad. After a very warm welcome with mint tea, I knew I made the right choice. The riad is very conveniently located to visit all the beautiful gardens and palaces of the Medina. There is also a tourist bus stop 10 min away if you want to see the bigger picture :) Breakfast is served when you wake up so there is no chance you miss it :) Only suggestion would be a small fridge in the room.
Lovely place!
The hotel is in a great location, really close to everything going on in the centre of Marrakech but somehow manages to be a sanctuary of peace and quiet from the hectic hustle and bustle of day to day business. The staff there are very friendly and are happy to help in any way, although communicate better in French than in English. A great breakfast is provided at a time of your choosing in the morning - good coffee and excellent orange juice. The terrace at the top is lovely in the cooler hours and the orange trees in the centre courtyard are beautiful when it's sunny. Overall it was a great stay; stunning traditional hotel with many modern amenities (wifi, western toilet etc) that you may need.
Great Ryad
Loved my stay in Marrakesh The Ryad is really nice, some nice clean rooms, breakfast was the same every day but good nonetheless. They are upgraded the roof terrasse to have a massage room and hammam by the winter. It is nicely located, 10 mins walk from the Jemaa el-Fnaa. Staff was really friendly and accomodating. They have deals on minibus excursions to a number of places away from Marrakesh which is really handy.
Traditional and Charming
This was a beautiful Riad: Interior garden / courtyard was full of tradition (Moroccan ceramics and tiles); orange trees in the centre of the courtyard with birds twittering in the morning and afternoon. We stayed in a room on the ground floor which was spacious and beautifully decorated and with the shutters open allowed us to view the garden. The shower- room / toilet could do with some updating. The staff were friendly and helpful(particularly the lady, Madame FATIMA).The location was excellent, inside the Medina (2 minute walk to the Souks). The breakfast was very good with freshly squeezed orange juice, moroccan pancakes, omelette etc. served by Hassan who was very helpful. We would highly recommend this Riad for friendliness, location and a traditional Moroccan experience. Marrakech is a wonderful City (just watch out for the traffic!)
very central
This Hotel, is really central to the old Marrakesh which is great for getting around. the house keeper Abdul was very friendly at all times although no one spoke English so it made it a bit difficult. overall ok stay.
Fine for short term stays!
The Riad was a lovely place and in a really good location - close to the Medina and the market of souks. The hosts don't speak a lot of English so it got kind of difficult and things were lost in translation. The hotel also doesn't take credit card and we had to pay cash for our room which was slightly annoying.
Owner Mr Farook is extremly helpful. I had to contact my dessert tour operator and did not have enough info. Mr farook helped me beyond my expectation. He gave me his own laptop and phone to use to find details what I needed. He made sevaral phone calls for me. Even though we had communication problen, i could not speak Freanch and Arabic, he worked extremly hard to locate tour operator. Greatly appreciated. His staff is very nice. traditional Morroccan decoration of hotel and garden is imprassive.
I asked the breakfast at 8:00 just because I had to leave at 8:30. But they prepare the breakfast 8:17. I have waited 17 minitues for nothing and Ihad to eat just 15 minnutes. And also the housemade and receptionist had a quarelle with a big voice. It made me really tired. It was also so cold int the room. The air condition is not enough for this room.
Dar Moulay Ali 6 Derb El Ouartani - Mouassine
We stayed in this marvelous little hotel from 30.11 to 3.12.2011. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and we were treated with typical Arabian guest friendliness. Staff speak English and will try and converse with you in other languages too. Obviously French being the most familiar one to them. The breakfast was ample, with home made bread, omelet, french coffee, mint-tea, jam honey and freshly pressed orange juice. We were sitting among orange trees in the courtyard of this riad. Our room was comfortable and clean and we were given an extra blanket at night, when it got cold on one of these cold December nights. There is a roof garden with deck chairs and you have the most beautiful view onto the Atlas mountains from here. The hotel is literally 2 minutes from the souks, but is easy to find from the main road, where our taxi dropped us off. To walk to the square Djma el Fna takes about ten minutes, but you need to get to know the route through all the little alleyways in the souks. For the price we paid, compared to other hotels we stayed in in Marrakesh in the past, this is the best value for money we have had. We would go back and stay here with pleasure.
not bad for the price
Dar Moulay Ali is a nice hotel in the Medina district of Marrakech. It can be difficult to find at first, so try to arrange pick up with the hotel. There is no TV in the rooms, but there is a shared TV room with a big screen TV. The Moroccan breakfasts were good but the same items are served everyday. The rooms are basic and clean, and there is wifi throughout the riad. Be sure to check out the view from the rooftop, it's really cool!
The manager of the riad went far and beyond in his services. The location is in the old city centre so a great location. Inside is really peacefull. Great atmosphere!
Cuidado
I really recommend this place, wonderful and helpfull staff and beautiful Riad, good location!
Humedades. No dan shampoo.
Zentral gelegen, dennoch ruhig

Amazing location ! The staff was very helpful and gave us a great experience
