Dai Ichi Inn was bery close to the local train station. Easy walk to shopping and dining areas. Good place to stay if you're planning to take metro or shop nearby. Ventilation in bathroom was poor, resulted in bad smelling bathroom. Didn't realise laundry was a paid service, staff did suggest a nearby 24 hr coin laundry (with bad reviews).
This is near the JR station. It is also within 10 minutes walk (with pulling luggage) to the bus stops for limousines to both Narita Airport and Haneda Airport. However, the room that we stayed seemed rather dated, albeit its cleanliness and availability of amenities for our selection.
Great location on the east side of ikebukuro station but not near the craziness of the busy parts. I would stay here again. Staff were very welcoming
We like this hotel location so closed to train & metro station plus very convenient to find food & supermarket. Hotel staffs do not speak good English but they are helpful and friendly!
OK hotel with room for improvement
Ok hotel. The location is super, right next to Ikebukuro station. Room size is also bigger than most others in Tokyo. AC is powerful. The mattress and pillow also offer great support so you can have good sleep. Downside: 1. lack of coin laundary facility on-site altho a nearby coin laundry is only 2 min away. 2. the arrangemnet of the hotel is odd. The recption lobby is on the 2nd floor and there in only 1 escalator with no elevator acceas to it. So it goes down from 5-11am, to facilitate those checking out, and upwards for checking in after 11. If you want to leave your luggage with the concierge and come back after 11am, it can be a bit challenging trying to carry all your suitcases down the spiral staircase. Also the concierge service is a bit below par. There had been a couple of times my online shopping and lost luggage arrived, but i didnt get any notification from the hotel. I had to make the initiative to enquire. Also, when I tried to use luggage delivery service to the airport, the concierge said it has to be at least 2 days in advance. I couldnt do it because the airline lost my luggage and it didnt arrive until within 2 days. I asked the concierge is there same day delivery. All he could do was apologize. I then used google and could find same day luggage delivery service and did it myself. I didn't mind that but I thought concierge should be able to help with things like this. I'm familiar with Tokyo so not an issue, but imagine those not familiar.
This is a nice hotel conveniently located close to the station and shops. The room is clean, comfortable and The staff are very friendly.
Ikebukuro great location
The employees are well trained and treated us nicely. The maids also seemed hard workers, and they did a great job. We stayed there for about two weeks, so we had to do laundry a few times. If they had a coin laundry facility inside the hotel that would be very helpful. We had to walk to the nearest laundromat and went back and forth to take care of just one load of laundry. It wasn’t fun doing it in the hot and muggy weather conditions.
The only strong point of this hotel is the location. The condition of the room is tired and old. Need to refurbish. There are black stains around the washing basin. Water pressure is not good too, as the hand shower head is less than 2 inches. Breakfast has not much variety. I admire the chef who can cut the cakes and fruits into smallest pieces possible. Only a few pieces on display from time to time.
Hidden gem
Great stay. Best value. Strong AC, Strong water pressure, Comfortable bed and comforters. Great location to Subway, and great restaurants. Love this place.
Excellent Location
Excellent location next to Ikebukuro station, many restaurants and a minute from McDonalds for breakfast on weekends when other cafes don't open yet. !0 min walk to Anime and another 10min to Sunshine City Plaza. Excellent for basic hotel and clean bathrooms. Our room was right adjacent from the station, so could hear the trains passing until they stopped running, but this didn't bother us at all. My husband is a light sleeper and he didn't have any problems, especially when we're so tired from a full day's activities.
Very convenient with eatery located nearby.
The location is excellent. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the station, and just a few minutes from shopping. We were on the 6th floor overlooking the train tracks, but never heard the trains. We would gladly stay there again.
Very convenient
Good location and walkable to lots of shopping places
Prime location and excellent service.
The location is very near the subway metro station and JR. Lots of eateries and convenience stores including a Family Mart at the lobby of the hotel. We booked the family room which had 4 single beds. Although hotel was a bit old, the room size is ok since Tokyo’s hotels are mostly small. Hotel staff was very helpful and helped to switch the escalator direction to allow us to bring our luggages down.
Very safe. Close to train station
Rooms are a bit old but clean. Toilets are very small. Service was great.
The 24 hours front desk staff were very helpful in helping us with weighing and storing our luggage, and calling a taxi for us. We were very happy with the excellent service. I liked how the tea cups came with a lid! There is a separate sink outside the shower and toilet area so it's helpful. For the price and location, the room is quite spacious - larger than expected for Ikebukuro area. The building itself is quite dated, and the shower drain does not drain well - bath water started to accumulate after a couple showers (took 15 minutes after showering for the water to completely drain away, argh). The washroom has no vent so it gets a bit smelly after a while. The hotel has old walls that does not block noises well, and you can hear the street and people talking in the hallway. The mattress is comfortable, though pillows were too soft - a common issue with Japanese hotels. There are no outlets by the head of the bed so we had to charge our phones at the counter. It is very conveniently located, less than 5 minutes walk from the North-East exit of Ikebukuro station. Lots of shopping options nearby, and a convenience store right outside. They only have one escalator that leads to the lobby - you'll need to use the stairs to go outside after 11am, though they are able to reverse the escalator direction if you need to bring heavy luggage downstairs. This would be inconvenient for people with mobility issues. We might stay here again but it won't be our first choice.
Very good staff, spoke very good english and were easy to talk too and were very accommodating.
Very clean and friendly staffs, good prices and convenience area for shipping and transportation
My friend and I came in satisfied with our stay. The double bed room is not very big in a western standard. It has no closet to store your luggage. We came with 2 big luggages and we had no problem with space. The bathroom is a standard small bathroom that came with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. I honestly had no complaint about the size of the room only because I was using it to sleep. The plus side is that it's near the train station, Sunshine city, and major shopping area. The down side is I don't see the laundry room. Overall, I had an okay time and stayed in a safe hotel.
Too late to start breakfast 7:00am which I need to catch bus at 6:40am
nice staff !
Great except the escalator as there is only 1 onsite which will change direction depending on the time of day.
Exceeded my expectations. No train noise for the 10th floor executive room. Will stay again.
Cleanness
A spider was found on my daughter's bed. She was freaked out.
5mins to east exit of ikebukuro! Near Parco Seibu malls. At least three 24hrs ramen, chinese food eateries ard hotel. Family mart is within hotel premise. Hotel is a good size for 3pax, with extra wash basin outside bathroom! Nice!
I like it closed to the subway station and everything is convenient.
We really enjoyed to stay this hotel. Maid services are excellent. Convenience to go to everywhere. We defiantly stay this hotel when we come to Tokyo.
The location is convenient and have tons of subway lines to transfer if needed. But if you’re a light sleeper then should request a room away facing the train station otherwise it’ll be super loud.
Convenience
Very friendly staff, nice residence and within walking distance of the station, restaurants and shopping centers
Tam family staying at Dai-I chi Ikebukuro
We had 4 beds in a triple room, we would not want to have the head of the two beds directly facing the air conditioner for all night. We changed the other way, but the hotel maids always switched to the original setting.
Clean room condition. One sink outside bathroom and one inside which makes convenient for family.
Love the 4 beds concept! The bad thing about this hotel is the wifi connection. Took a long time to connect and that frustrates our whole family.
Very clean and 5 min. walk to the train station. A lot of restaurants nearby. Friendly staffs and helpful. They have to get rid of the carpet floor.
It's the closest hotel from JR Ikebukuro station, but it gets a little noisy in the middle of the night if you live on the lower floors. Overall it's excellent !
There is only a 1 way elevator, (morning - downwards) and (evening - upwards). Other than that, hotel is very clean and comfortable. It is a 3 min walk to Ikebukuro station.
Easy access to Ikebukuro station
The hotel is located conveniently close to Ikebukuro station, as well as many local attractions. Checking in and out was easy and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was spacious, beds were firm and linens were spotlessly clean. The only downsides were the worn carpet under the bed, some dust-bunnies behind the desk, and a large curtain that hid the small window which looked out over a massive DVD store neon blinking light. That being said, we only used the room for sleeping, not entertaining guests. The window opens but there’s construction and maintenance on the JR lines in the wee hours, so it can get noisy. Would we stay here again? Absolutely! There are good ramen spots nearby, and good shopping as well.
Cheap and Good
A very simple and no-frills hotel, but very easy to get to from the station and convenient for the price.
.
Great location!
Very convenient location in a spot that's easy to find if you end up getting lost among the alleys in the surrounding area.
Clean, friendly service, and conveniently located.
Kind of old facility , escalator to the lobby is too small for bring luggage.
Very Convenient Hotel!
Very Convenient. Close to Train and Bus stations. A lot of restaurants and cafe are nearby. Even the location is at the center of the city, it was very quiet.
Last stop before home
Nice comfortable stopover before heading back home. Nice decent little hotel. in the middle of Ikebukuro. Love seeing the trains out of my window. And once the windows are closed no sound can be heard! Pity i had to leave early in the morning to catch my train to Narita Airport. Next time gonna stay a bit longer! Dai-Ichi Inn is a gem!
Avoid if Possible
My advice is to avoid this hotel if possible. I was greeted with you can't check in early and by the way we will not have the non-smoking room that you reserved. Okay, I understand the no early check in but to top it off they asked me if I could check out early since they have a big group coming. Great, do I count for anything at this hotel? Apparently not. Quite honestly, I believe I received the bad treatment at this hotel because I booked it through hotels.com which they clearly resented.
Good Location for Sight Seeing
The hotel was comfortable and had easy access to the subway lines. It was difficult to locate the hotel initially even though it's only a few minutes walk. From the subway stop take the North Gate 2 exit and go to the underpass. Make a right turn and follow the We Road. When you come out bear left and the hotel is on the right. The staff at the desk were very helpful and we liked having a convenience store on the ground floor. Overall, would recommend this hotel.
buffet should be part of the selling point ...
I am not sure if the hotel is interested in providing breakfast buffet since 1) I purcharsed breakfast ticket since I saw the ad (and also the hotel clerk did not care to ask/offer) and 2) a table was cleared very quickly by the time I returned to the table w/a new plate of items that I did not try the first time round.
GOOD AREA
great entertainment area close to lots of shops , restaurants and the trains.tight quarters for 3 adults but comfortable.
Not recommendable
Just too expensive for the quality And the towel dust is terrible
Adequate for one night
The hotel is 5 mins from Ikebukuro station (where you can get the train to Narita airport) but it is on a small side street that can be hard to find. We spent Saturday night there and it was a lively neighborhood with clubs, pachinko parlors, restaurants and loads of shopping to do. Lots of young people hang out and party... until 5 am! Not a good location if you are planning to catch a flight from Haneda airport. Hotel itself is rather scuzzy on the public levels, staff not too friendly nor spoke much English. I think they cater to a Japanese clientele. Room was small but clean. Air conditioning barely worked. Toilet and shower in a cubicle of about 4x4!I think there are better hotels for the price.
Good..but
The hotel is near the department store and have a convenient store in front of the hotel but lobby is at the second floor and no elevator to lobby, you can take the escalator up to the second floor and on the way down, you have to use the stairs..quite difficult to carry your luggage
Close to station, restaurants and shopping
Basic level of service. Staff was polite but not overtly friendly. Great location. The hotel was close to all amenities - transport, restaurants, shopping and convenience store on the ground floor .
Right next to Tokyo's 2nd Akihabara
Right next to North Exit A-2 (cross under the walkway right after leaving the exit) or north of the Central Exit. 2 minute walk. Also, right next to Tokyo's 2nd Akihabara and Sunshine City in Ikebukuro. Great location. Helpful staff, held my bags for a bit after checkout so I could wander around the area before leaving for the airport. Even had an opening for a reasonable price on New Year's Eve. Highly recommended!
Next to the Ikebukuro Station
Easy to access from Ikebukuro Station. Not a luxury Hotel, but OK to stay for the night.
Good location, great price!
Awesome spot for an incredibly low price (compared to most Tokyo hotels) but just remember this is definitely still a hotel in Tokyo, its very small. Who cares though, you should be out in the city most of the time!
Dai Ichi Inn Ikebukuro: Solid Quality Bargain
This hotel pops out at you for a reasonable price per night in Tokyo and you think: something must be wrong. Well if there is something wrong, I couldn't find it. Other than: the hotel was a little difficult to locate my first night there, but I don't speak Japanese and I didn't have a map. It took asking several people and luckily coming out of the train station on the right side. This is an urban neighborhood, but it doesn't seem particularly dangerous. And it is convenient for going anywhere in Tokyo. The Ikebukuro station is part of the Yamanote line, the circular train line that allows you to go anywhere in Tokyo. Buy tickets at the JR line ticket machines. The hotel itself is clean and pleasant enough. Ample hot water in the bathroom. Smallish room but comfortable. I had a western style toilet. I had friends staying at the Keio Plaza in Shinjuku and to compare; they were paying 3x what I was per night. But, they had a very fancy, luxury hotel lobby, accompanied by overpriced hotel restaurants and bars, and a nicer location in the skyscraper district of Shinjuku. So, if that's important then this isn't the hotel for you. There was one staff member I could count on for solid English skills, but everyone was helpful. A Japanese phrase book goes a long way, if not always literally helpful, a phrasebook shows you are trying. I think the staff appreciated it, even when the only phrase I could come up with was "I would like to change money." and "Super". This is a bargain hotel not near any beautiful parks or architectural masterpieces. But, it's clean, pleasant and conveniently located next to the train station. Some reviewers complained about train noise, but I found jet lag to be a much greater impediment to normal sleep. If you are coming from the states, I think your jet lag will trump any train noise and you will find yourself waking up very early in the morning regardless. Obviously, for Asian and Australian travelers jet lag isn't an issue and then maybe the train noise becomes more of an issue, but for me, it wasn't. So, here are directions from the Ikebukuro train station. If you are traveling by train, exit the Ikebukuro train station through the Seibu department store exits. All exits are marked on yellow signs. Getting the exit right is important. As you come out of the train station, there is a Bic Camera store on your left. Walk past that until you see a McDonald's. Turn left at the side street before the McDonald's then follow the road as it veers right. You should run straight into the hotel.
Way better than expected
Went into this expecting some issues with smoking vs non smoking rooms based on previous reviews. To the contrary, both times I stayed here I was provided with exactly the room i requested - clean, large, and able to fit 3 people and luggage comfortably. (they provided a foldable bed). The hotel provides everything that is needed for a comfortable stay. Nothing 5 star, but this is a decent 3 star establishment and I was not disappointed. They also hold luggage for you for free, which was very useful. Love the location. It's just next to the Parco dept store. The previous reviews on how the red light district is behind the hotel doesn't really make any difference. This place is so near the station, and it is extremely safe. I was walking around late at night and did not come across anything seedy. The 'red light district' was much tamer than Shinjuku's.
Great location, very clean, definitly recommend
I was looking for a good central hotel that wasn't too expensive for the weekend as I wasn't planning on spending much time in the room anyway. I booked the "double" for a little extra room and I actually had some room for my 2 suitcases. The staff was very friendly, room was very clean, internet was actually fast. You can't beat the location if you want to experience the city in its true form which is busy busy busy, yet the hotel was very quiet and peaceful. I recommend this hotel.
Great location
I always stay here on my Tokyo trips because the location is great and all basic necessities are covered, and staff is always polite and friendly .
Great Tokyo Hotel
Hotel is in a great location located just a short walk from Ikebukuro Station. About a 90 minute ride from Narita Airport on the Narita Express. Very pleased with our stay at this hotel
Great bargain with convenient location for getting around Tokyo
Close to the Ikebukuro subway and train station including fantastic food courts and upscale department stores, if you learn how to use the fantastic subway system (and avoid peak hours) you can travel to any tourist destination inexpensively. Staff were courteous and helpful. Within my comfort level as a woman traveling alone.
Excelente atendimento
The hotel is conveniently located, just 5 minutes from the east exit. There will be train passing by in the morning, so it will be a little noisy. Overall very satisfied and will stay again next time
Very clean and amenities are great! staff members are all super kind and super great manners! Japan is super wonderful. Only thing that I a little worry was.. the door of the hotel room … I think kind of thin?! Maybe?!. While I was staying, I could hear all the talk someone talking so clearly in the hall way.. was it near?! my room or not.. so, that means.. my voice also can be heard from the hall way?! Other than that, Super great! Room is kind of small, but very very clean!! and module style toilet and bathroom also super clean but small, if you are taller than 190cm, you should request the special room for tall people, I guess. Breakfast is ok! Japanese small amount with some variety! all you can eat style so.. ok!! and only 1500 yen! I think reasonable, and the restaurant is very clean too!
good
A clean hotel with an affordable price located in the busy Ikebukuro. The equipment is a little bit old but works well.
Location is convenient. The hotel looks a bit old, and there is no elevator to G/F, a bit inconvenient for elderly and kid to walk stairs. Small room with insufficient spaces for luggage’s. Smell in toilet is not nice. But room cleansing service is acceptable. Very Good to have fresh bottles of water and fresh towels everyday.
The location is close to the subway station, the accommodation is clean, and the staff is very friendly.

Hotel is basic but acceptable. Close to shopping areas and restaurants
