Fabulous stay

This was a fabulous hotel with a huge room and every amenity. Their free shuttle service to the pandas was excellent. We will always stay here when we are in Changdu!

We stayed here on our first night of arrival into China. This hotel experience was EXCELLENT. Highly recommend without hesitation. Everything was perfect, and staff was well prepared to receive foreign visitors. Breakfast buffet was very fancy and included. There was a free and very convenient shuttle to the panda base in the morning only ten minutes away. We didn't stay for the day, but the grounds and pools seemed very nice, too.

Great location for pandas

Facilities were great, close to panda research center, staff were very friendly and willing to help, but just need to be more aware of customer needs without being prompted. The organization of the sponsors’ tables for our conference could have been better, eg clearer instructions on what to expect before the conference. WiFi was also a bit slow.

Good

Room great size, very comfy bed, great cable TV channels, lovely bathroom. A/C more of a fan so we couldn’t get it as cold as we would have liked for sleeping. Buffet breakfast was very good but food and drink in general was very expensive. You have to eat in their restaurants as there is nothing else around the hotel so you have to pay their prices. Food was good, especially the Chinese food. Outdoor pool closed and we weren’t told In advance. Indoor pool good. Main problem for us is that hotel is really far out of Chengdu, actually in the middle of nowhere. It’s close to the panda’s and they do provide a few free shuttle bus services. If you want to go out in the city at night you’ll need to get a taxi for half an hour which is about ¥100. There was happy hour at the bar but they don’t tell anyone this! We were told by another guest so then took advantage of the offers. The grounds are very attractive and nice to walk in.

Close to the Pandas, far from the city center..

Overall, a great hotel. The staff was very helpful and friendly. If I only want to go to Chengdu to see the Pandas, i would stay here again since they are so close. However, if I also want to see the city, I wouldn’t as the hotel is so far from the city center and there is very limited public transportation. The breakfast had plenty of options, both Western and Chinese. The hotel is surrounded by a large residential area so there were a few small grocery stores and restaurants. There was a local market fairly close with fresh fruit and some street food. Beyond that, it required a didi or taxi for anything else.

Beautiful room, nice pool and sauna/steam room, truly 5-star. It is shocking that a crooked bell boy running his own side businesses is tolerated in such a place. I ordered a taxi at least 20 minutes ahead. There was no taxi. After another 15 minutes a buddy of the bell boy arrived in his car trying to charge me 4 times the meter rate. The reception personnel didn't see a problem and didn't help. Disgusting.

Hotel with benefits.

Lovely hotel, good food, comfortable but two things are stand out - a) close to the Panda park with transport provided by the hotel and b) the local market - go across the major road and into a local market - good deals e.g. genuine Chinese tea set for £30 where could have paid hundreds elsewhere. Only found thanks to the position of the hotel which is great value with very helpful staff.

Would Happily Stay Again

Excellent hotel, clean and comfy. Spa was good. Has beautiful garden. Plenty of variety for breakfast. Restaurant food not the best however. Close to panda breeding centre.

Don't Book Unless Absolutely Have To...

I travel for work and always book for a King bed room. When I got to the hotel check-in at 11pm, I was given a two double-bed room. When inquiring for getting a King bed room, the staff said the only king bed available is an administrative suite which will cost me if I want it. Usually at other hotels I would have been upgraded to the King bed suite at no extra cost, since it's late and there is no point for the hotel to keep the room anyways. Even worse, when I refuse to pay to upgrade, the staff looked at me like I was a cheap-stick. They certainly do not wish to try satisfying customer, but only doing the most basics. When I check-out and asked for a taxi-cab to the subway station, they arranged a cab that intend to take me to the train station. I have never experienced such a chaos at a hotel anywhere. Certainly the worst hotel stay ever.

Great hotel, good for easy access to the Panda Base, but not ideal for repeated trips into the city.

Relatively quiet hotel in a garden setting.

Quiet hotel set in gardens located 17km to north east of the city and within walking distance of Panda Research Base. Weddings are frequently held in the gardens using the hotel as a reception area. Breakfast had all the selections on offer to cater for most tastes including western cuisine. Good tasty danish tarts & donuts!! Mike, a member of the concierge staff, was very helpful and spoke very good English. The nearest subway station does require a bus and/or taxi ride to access. The hotel does have a courtesy bus to & from the nearest subway station (Zoo) and Panda Research Base but these are relatively infrequent running only 4-5 times a day.

The Hotel location make it easy for us to visit the Chengdu Panda Base. Also convenience tp visit other attractions.

Top-notch

This is an excellent, resort-style property with wonderful features and amenities. It is in a very nice area in close proximity to the panda sanctuary. Do note that it is a long drive from the airport and central Chengdu. And it would be even better if the hotel bar was open later but that is just a minor quibble. Worth every dollar.

AirCon doesn't work well

Everything is great except the AC doesn't work well. The room AC control doesn't work on AC. No matter what temperature and the fan you set, the AC runs its own way: weak, room temperature, stuffy.

Convenient for pandas

New hotel in good condition. Convenient for visiting pandas. Make sure you arrive early at pandas to avoid crowds and see them while they are active. Concierge is not well organised and caused us almost to miss our flight, which was not appreciated. No apologies from hotel.

Good hotel to stay to meet with the great pandas.

We booked two rooms for 3 nights, one for me and the other for my parents. This is our first stay at this hotel and the purpose of this trip is Vacation. A warm welcome by the hotel staff at check in, as I said, 'hello', they welcomed me back in my language which is English. They helped us with our luggage and introduced us to the corner suites on the Twentieth floor. To our surprise, a welcomed fruit basket is found in both of our suites. The entrance hall is huge, filled with pandas everywhere, even inside the rotating doors. There are all sizes, huge, large, medium, and small,. However, there are no live pandas inside the hotel, as they are only 10 minutes away from the, ' Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda breeding' by the complementary shuttle from the hotel which leaves every hour and the return trip is provided upon request. Buffet breakfast is good, a mixer of westernized Chinese, Japanese, and American, attended all 3 days. There is also a small gift shop which sell souvenir pandas and candy. The friendly staff at the check in counter, the helpfulness of the bell people, who help us with our luggage, complementary shuttle service to/from the Chengdu research base, which made our stay in Chengdu a pleasant one, in that I give this hotel a full 5 out of 5.

Great value!

Great value for the price! Very elegant hotel with lovely infinity pool, great food, and excellent service. All amenities included in room. WiFi was sporadic and VPN did not work however. Still enjoyed immensely.

lovely hotel lovely staff close to panda breeding base good breakfast distance from city and airport is a problem but hotel provides a shuttle bus service to panda base and city like most Chinese hotels catering for foreign guests staff need training on white wine service white wine on menu did not match white wine available ( happens in many Chinese 4+ stars and above) need to supply staff with shadow menu so they are not caught on the hop if you want proximity to pandas and a family friendly hotel this is the hotel for you

Close to Panda Center

This hotel is a little out of the way but is situated in a beautiful park setting. The primary reason for this visit was to see the Panda Center so the location was perfect. We did visit the Chengdu city center which was congested and busy. We were happy to return to the tranquility of our hotel.

Excellent service, lovely hotel!

From the moment we approached the Crowne Plaza Panda Garden Hotel we were totally impressed with the décor and with the welcoming friendliness of staff. Public areas were spacious and clean with cuddly toy pandas displayed in the foyer, at the entrance and also climbing the bamboo in the restaurant! The room was clean, warm and comfortable and service was amazing right from the start to the finish of our stay. Breakfast was nice with a good selection of luke warm (would have been better if hot) and cold food. We really appreciated the hotel's free shuttle bus service to and from the nearby Chengdu Panda Base and Chengdu city centre. This is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in and the service we received was sincerely the best. We hope to return to Chengdu one day and will definitely stay at the Panda Garden Hotel.

Wish we had stayed longer

We stayed here to visit the pandas. We only had one night, and I wish we'd stayed longer in order to see more of Chengdu. The bathtub was marvelous! The grounds were beautiful. The staff were very nice and spoke fairly good English, particularly Jenny and Loren (whose English was excellent). A few negatives: 1) The hotel is far from downtown, so we might have chosen a different place to stay to explore Chengdu's surroundings if we had more time. 2) Food choices are limited to the hotel restaurant; the surrounding neighborhood did not have any restaurants. The room service pizza was awful! Not as bad as ketchup and American cheese on a bagel (which we had in Xi'an!) but close. 3) The front desk staff were very picky about accepting US dollars for exchange; they would only take pristine bills. Thankfully, the hotel had an ATM and we were able to withdraw money from our US account. Also, they did not understand that we wanted two adjoining rooms (i.e. connected with a door, not just next to each other), but since it was just for one night we just separated the family with one parent and one kid in each room.

Forty minutes from airport.

Great stay. Nice hotel and great service. Breakfast buffet is satisfactory. Beware of taxi fare... the forty+ minute trip should cost RMB 120 but drivers will demand more (RMB 200 - 300). We paid RMB 200 for 2 trips to the hotel and RMB 150 for 2 trips from the hotel to the airport. We like this hotel and the hotel staff.

Comfortable stay and fantastic staff.

The staff made this stay GREAT. Marco, the front desk agent made us feel welcome and anticipated all our needs. The bell staff and concierge took great care of us. All of the hotel staff made a good effort to be friendly, helpful and communicate in English. The room was comfortable and up to standard and the buffet breakfast provided a good selection. We will be in Chengdu three times over the next three weeks and picked this hotel because it is near the Panda Station. The hotel is about 40 minutes by taxi fro the airport... taxis have meters but the driver demanded a premium (RMB 200 in our case versus the RMD 120 meter). Overall, we are happy we selected Crown Plaza Panda Garden.

Nice location and environment around hotel. 5 minutes from Panda park. Not too many things to do outside hotel. Bus drives you to downtown 4 times per day and pick you up at fix times

Panda Visit

I would book this hotel again if ever I was to visit Chengdu a second time. Everything about it was amazing. We could not have asked for a better hotel. The one draw back was the on site main restaurant. We visited during the Lunar New Year and the only dinner buffet offered was the Chinese Hot pot which was expensive and not what we wanted to eat. Also many of the items on the a la carte menu were unavailable. Luckily there are nice restaurants near by that were great to eat at.

This is a Google hotel, because is near of panda base, The hotel have a bus to panda base and centro of chengdu, it is free!!!! The room is so beatiful and crean,staff speak english

Nice

Very nice hotel! Welcome drink was a nice touch. Loved the shampoo and conditioner in the rooms. The hotel was close to the panda base which is why we booked it but due to a recent illness you could not cuddle a panda so we tried a base that was an 1 1/2 away and they said it wa too hot out. Other than the panda base that looked like a tourist zoo everything was quite a drive away. The staff was nice and the breakfast was a huge buffet I many different foods.

Close to Panda Garden

The best thing about this hotel is the proximity to the Panda Garden.

Best location for the Panda Centre

This hotel is in possibly the best possible location IF you want to visit the Panda Breeding facility, however, it is quite far out of town if you want to visit the city centre, but they try to make up for this by having almost everything you might need in or around the hotel (e.g. Pools, Spa, Karaoke, Panda gift shop etc.) The hotel itself combines modern western and traditional Chinese styling very elegantly - lobby, breakfast area etc. are very nice and there is a good Chinese restaurant in the hotel which serves delicious (but very spicy) Sichuan food. Rooms themselves are luxurious and very comfortable and we were very happy with them and room service is also very reasonable in price. Staff were very helpful with providing information about our stay and getting to and from the Panda centre and also made sure we were not inconvenienced in any way, when there was a slight error in the booking that had gone through to them. The time to get to / from the airport was about 45mins in a taxi as there was never much traffic because the hotel is outside town (I'm assuming it's near the ring road). There is a free shuttle that goes to the Panda Centre (very quick) and to the city centre (didn't try this one).

ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT HERE! Gorgeous hotel. Extremely clean. VERY good location to Giant Panda Research Base. The hotel has a complimentary shuttle that leaves at specific times to the Panda Base (5 Min drive) then continues into the heart of Chengdu (Tianfu Square - 30 Min drive) Just make sure you register the times you want to catch with the front desk. Rooms were spacious and clean. Very comfortable. Bar and restaurant in the hotel are expensive, and the breakfast buffet is extremely overpriced, but if you can get past that then this is definitely somewhere worth staying! Massive outdoor pool, and large indoor pool. Hotel fitness centre is perfect for an away-from-home-workout. Definitely recommend this to anyone staying in Chengdu, especially if you want to see the Pandas.

Chengdu panda experience

nice hotel, room fab, close to Panda breeding centre and free transport to the city. It is a bit far from the city but the air quality is much better here. A watch out is the journey time to the airport, can be up to 2 hours from here

Not really a pleasant trip

I booked the room with internet and breakfast and everything was already paid for. However when I checked in, they said the room was not paid for, I had to call the front desk the day after to check on my rate again. And when I went for breakfast the lady came to my table twice and said breakfast was not included twice and was a little rude about it. Finally the wifi did not work on my computer, got the IT guy to my room to fix and see the settings on my computer. He meddled on my computer for 20min or so but still did not manage to fix it and sort of wasted my time a little while I was in a hurry to do my work. Location was far, and all taxi needed to charge extra to go to and fro the hotel. Luckily I had the taxi app and was able to call for the taxi on my own without having the aka the concierge to get one, otherwise they would have charged like 50% more for the taxi. Room was nice and clean though.

Great stay, but paperwork problem with Reservation

The hotel room and amenities are wonderful. The room is very nicely and extremely well equipped. The bed, lounge sofas and desks are comfortable and utilitarian. Nice view from the windows! The bus shuttle services to the Panda Center and to downtown Chengdu was very convenient, though it is quite far from the airport. But it is great for a family vacation hotel! The only problem I had was that the hotel somehow did not have our reservation set up with its reservation system. It took almost 20 minutes to check us in on a provisional basis

Excellent Hotel

It was fantastic! The hotel was great and the staff was amazing. Very friendly and helpful! It was very close to the Panda reserve and the free shuttle downtown and to the reserve was incredibly convenient.

Isolated location. Difficult to communicate in Eng

We chose this hotel due to proximity to Panda Breeding Center which was the focus of our visit to Chengdu. Staff didn't seem to have any exceptional knowledge of visit. There was nothing else around so all dining in hotel. Communication In English was difficult. I would stay in central Chengdu if I returned.

Fantastic hotel and affordable too. Shuttle bus to pandas only takes minutes. Great food with lots of fresh fruit and salads. High standards. Room had bathtub and shower and superbly clean. Pool terrific as is fitness center and extensive walking paths around the park-like grounds. I walked down the driveway to a nice new village for a hair style, manicue, pedicure and a few groceries all without speaking mandarin.

Exceeded expectations!

Our stay at this hotel was wonderful. The staff made sure our stay was enjoyable. They always had someone on staff that could speak English for us. The concierge was especially helpful in helping us make a trip out to Leshan to see the Big Buddha possible. Our hotel room was great with a great view. It would have been nice to be able to make the room a little cooler, but it wasn't that bad. The breakfast is fantastic! And the pool area very clean. We hated to leave. We are definitely recommending it to anyone we know that is going to Chengdu.

SO MUCH MORE THAN EXPECTED

I travel around the world and stay a many hotels, but this Crowne Plaza Chengdu Panda Garden I will remember especiallly. The rooms are large with a lot of charactor to their design and implementation. The King bed was beautifully dressed iand comfortable to sleep in. The bathroom had one of those deep tubs separate from the rainfall shower. The bathroom is almost as big as the bedroom with everything you need to make you happy. There was a separate room just for my luggage and clothes with a safe. The entire hotel is meticully clean and well kept. The people in this hotel are wonderful. They will do everything to make you happy. After you meet they will thereafter address you by name. They are professional yet kind, considerate and efficient.. I had a great experience at this hotel. When I return to Chengdu, this is the only hotel at which I would consider staying.

Wonderful Panda Experience

The hotel was beautiful, convenient, clean, spacious, comfortable, and had a fabulous breakfast buffet. The free shuttle to the Panda Preserve and to downtown was convenient, clean and spacious. The driver was excellent. We were there for four days, and went to the Panda Preserve and the Ancient Irrigation Project. Both were beautifully landscaped, interesting and photogenic.Employees at the hotel were kind, knowledgeable, or they could find the answer for us quickly. Plenty of fast elevators. No smoking, which was good. Beach and pool looked fun, but we didn't use it. And we were lucky to get a discounted rate.

Beautiful getaway!

This is a first-class accommodation in every way! The staff were all very welcoming and bent over backwards to make our stay great. The hotel is a bit out of the way unless you are going to the panda reserve, but it has its own beautiful park behind the hotel as well as an outdoor pool with sand like the beach, as well as a beautiful chapel. So you can enjoy nature and relax without ever going off their property. The meals seem a bit pricey, but it is a short walk down to a small village that has some Chinese restaurants very reasonable. The breakfast buffet is well worth including, and has everything you could possibly want either Western or Asian. We highly recommend this hotel, and will come again!

Great comfort and access to the pandas

The hotel was great, offering all the expected facilities for a hotel of this calibre. A wonderful outdoor pool with beach as well as an indoor pool. The Panda centre is really close and the hotel offers shuttles. We a wonderful stay and we will certainly be returning if in Chengdu again. A fantastic 'treat hotel'.

Affordable Luxury

This is the perfect base from which to explore Chengdu and the surrounding area; great on-site facilities, comfortable rooms, and a complimentary shuttle bus into town. A short distance from the Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Centre, which is definitely worth a visit. The hotel restaurants are expensive (as is the laundry service) but you can find cheap alternatives in the surrounding complex.

This hotel has everything. All was excellent. The only part I would like to change is breakfast time to finish a little later.

Perfect hotel for visiting the Pandas

Very nice modern and comfortable hotel. It is a 5 minute ride to the superb Chengdu Panda Research Base (outstanding experience); the hotel provides a shuttle 2 or 3 times a day (wait at the same drop off point for pick up on return). The only small issue with the hotel was that it was difficult to keep the room cool. The hotel service was excellent, and the room was otherwise very comfortable. Excellent Sichuan restaurant and Western restaurant. Make sure you have the hotel name in Chinese characters if you take a taxi there (RMB 157 to and from the airport). Highly recommended, as long as you do not plan to go into Chengdu, which is quite a distance - again, perfect for the Pandas.

Great if going to see the Pandas.

We had a wonderful stay. Beautiful, clean, comfortable hotel and very friendly, helpful staff. Very convenient if visiting the Pandas with a free shuttle bus there and back. If wanting to spend time in Chengdu itself, the hotel is a bit far out of the town unless you don't mind travelling - free shuttle bus there and back was great. Taxi fare from airport was expensive. Extra bed for child is expensive, would take a blow up mattress next time. Order breakfast on arrival as otherwise pay extra.

Close to pandas

Extmely clean and comfortable hotel nice brisk walk to panda conservation center. It is far from the rest of chengdu. Staff spoke English well and were helpful including arranging for large mailed items back to US. Breakfast buffet was great both Asian and western choices.

Awesome!

Great place to stay when visiting the pandas! The hotel was beautiful and service was great. The breakfast buffet was huge and yummy. :) The shuttle into town is very handy although it takes about 30 minutes. Definitely recommend this hotel.

Amazing Hotel

This was an amazing hotel if you are wanting to go to the Panda Base. It has a free shuttle to and from. It is a little far away from Chengdu itself but worth it for the service and the amazing rooms.

Luxury hotel

This hotel is really good. The staff could not do enough for you. The room was exceptional, the beds super soft -the best we have experienced in china. The buffet food was varied, plentiful and good value @ 150y per head. The bathroom was delightful with dressing room incorporated. The decor throughout the hotel was splendid everywhere you looked -a work of art! Perfect in every way.

Close to Pandas! Worth it!

Upon entering the lobby, I was greeted with a sweet smell signifying luxury. This two-year-young hotel did not disappoint. The main reason I was there was because of it's proximity to the Panda Breeding Base (XiongmaoJiDi) in Chengdu. The hotel offers am 8:30am free shuttle to take you to the breeding base, and then they offer a free coach ride into the Chengdu CBD once you're done with the pandas. Service was excellent. I wanted to swim, however you required a swimming cap. Which I was not bothered to purchase nor was in my possession. They have an indoor and outside pool. Outside pool is part of a 'beach' setting, however I didn't have time to check that out. Breakfast at 200RMB (plus?) per person was a bit steep, and as I was only there for a short period of time, I didn't purchase the bed & breakfast package. Getting there takes 30-45 minute journey. If you're coming from the airport, it was roughly 100RMB but they have to add a 50% surcharge as they are coming back on an 'empty return' sorta thing. This is stated on the cab window when you get INSIDE the cab though. Alternatively, you can catch the shuttle bus to the city CBD (maybe 10RMB) and then catch the free shuttle that Crowne Plaza offers to get to the hotel, but you may need to call them up so they can account for you. There are lots of shops around the CBD but around the hotel there isn't much... but hey I was only there to see the pandas!

Sadly only one night at this hotel.....but left with a lifetime of memories. After a long day of traveling ending the day in a clean and comfortable room is the best thing in the world. Hotel exceeded all expectations. New, modern, fresh, and clean. Lobby and lounge areas were very inviting. I would definitely stay here again. It's minutes from the Panda Research Base, which was a plus since that was the deciding factor in selecting this hotel.

Panda Heaven!

Great quality hotel and so close to the beautiful pandas :) From being greeted by the panda teddy bears in the revolving door on entry to the sparking clean foyer and hotel rooms, we really enjoyed our stay. Staff all have good English and rooms are a great size with all the facilities you could wish for. Cosily comfortable beds with clean, crisp linen. Wide choice at breakfast from western to traditional Chinese food and a great restaurant to eat in later in the day. Also yummy cocktails in the bar on the same level as the foyer! The hotel is located on the outskirts of the city (in a peaceful oasis) a few minutes drive from the Chengdu Research Base Of Giant Panda Breeding. The hotel offers a free shuttle bus which is ideal, we caught the 8.30am shuttle and we were watching the pandas eat their bamboo breakfast and play clumsily 5 minutes later :) This hotel is certainly the best place to stay to visit the world's cutest animals, the Giant Panda :)

Incompetent corrupt staff

The concierge had no clue how long it should take to get to the airport, and boomed me a taxi in a way that i almost missed my flight. Every time they booked me taxis, it costed more than when i booked them myself. Very unprofessional staff, and location is terrible, even proximity to panda park just can't make up for how horrible it is around
