Hot in SF
Not a very nice location. Not convenient for parking. Staff was unhelpful. No one told us when we checked in that the hotel had catastrophic failure of their HVAC system or that there were fans available. Our room was horribly hot for our entire stay. Twice we nearly ran over people sleeping in the hotel gated entrance for parking. Usually Marriott is our go-to for stays, it might not be after this.
Small parking space as well as room size
Everything was perfect other than our room was pretty warm. Not sure of we didnt set the temperature right, but we set it all the way down to 62 and its still warm. We have option to open the window, but it was too loud outside to do so. Other than that, we loved it.
The bathroom matt was wet and the roo had a smell
A great little place in the middle of theatres, restaurants, and some great little bars!
Staff was first class courteous. Parking seems secure Street outside full of loitering people.
Excellent choice
Amazing hotel. I’m talking absolutely beautiful. Most condo bed I’ve ever slept in.
Nice place to stay
We love it here, Our favorite place to stay in Tenderloin area. Great safety measure and nice rooms. Friendly staff and close to a music venue we go to frequently. See ya all in December.
Friendly staff. Clean room. Very accommodating for us with having family in the hospital across the street.
Hotel was nice. But, lots of homeless people nearby. Beware.
Nice central location. Staff was vey kind, helpful.
We really liked the hotel. It was convenient, comfortable and had a very nice staff. There's a great diner on site. The hotel is very safe. There's lots of security, but not a lot of parking at the hotel itself... it's first come, first served. If you get an assigned parking place, you do have in/out privileges. If you don't get parking at the hotel, there's a good parking structure close by. However, as a woman, I would not have felt safe walking in the area alone. I was fine with my husband along, but we were both relieved when a parking space became available at the hotel. The homeless set up camp in the area at night. Too bad, because it's a really nice place to stay.
Check in was easy. Locating parking garage was easy. Walking distance to many things
Very friendly staff. Accommodating to people with family at the hospital
Great place
Friendly service, convenient parking, nice room.
Great hotel, downtown area
Was perfect for a work conference
Really beautiful property. We ended up with a room that did not face the outside so it was incredible quiet. I’m a really light sleeper and did not hear a sound. Would definitely stay again!
Staff was super helpful and friendly!!! Would highly recommend this hotel
The location was great ,close to Transportation right outside the door.Mels downstairs has great food ,breakfast and dinner .
Nice stay
Very nice hotel with onsite parking
Had a pleasant stay at the courtyard. Big spacious room, with a clean bed . Love the safe gated car parking. Loved that the concierge greeted us with bottles of water for our stay. 5/5
Clean, beautifully decorated, quiet
Beautiful kept up older property in downtown San Francisco near the Sutter hospital on Van Ness. The room was freshly remodeled, small, but cute and very comfortable.
The property is under an area where I didn't feel safe. Also, an employee open the door to my room during a Saturday afternoon. Did not knock or called out, just opened the door and walked in.
Ok
Despite a little hard to find the staff was very helpful
Great location and safe
Checking in was a circus , front door was locked no staff at front desk
Everything was near and just a nice place to stay for a quick trip
Wow! BEAUTIFUL hotel. EXTREMELY secure. The suites are spacious with many amenities. LOVED our stay. Would definitely return!!!
Doesn’t have face towels, not enough coffee cups and no trash can in the bedroom.

Very nice facility. Although restaurants were close by, no room service.
The hotel is great, if they don't have parking available there are a couple of garages nearby which end up being cheaper. Only problem is the hotel is right at the edge of an unpleasant neighbourhood, so plenty of unpleasant people just a block away
This is a great place to stay to access the Opera, Ballet, symphony, City Hall and Hayes Valley. It is on the edge of the tenderloin but unlike many of the other good choices in the area you do not actually need to wak through the Tenderloin to get there. It has everything you need, is comfortable and clean and does the job.
I liked the hotel a lot! However, I felt very unsafe walking alone (woman) in the neighbourhood, even during day time.
A lot of people “hanging out” both sides of the hotel.
Well kept and nice hotel
It was mediocre
When booking our hotel the photos of the room/common area looked beautiful and we were so excited for our stay. However when we arrived, we realized that the parking garage gates were down. We checked in and were told the lot was ‘full’ and we would have to park in the garage down the street which ended up costing us $30 for the 2 nights we stayed. We were hoping to grab a spot in the garage early morning/midday as we arrived late for check in but the gate never opened up which was pretty frustrating. The room was very mediocre and quite small for a king room. The bed was hard and pretty uncomfortable and the pillows flattened within seconds of laying down. The aesthetic of the hotel was lovely but the room/parking situation was very low tier and not very relaxing. The staff however was very nice. We have stayed in the Holiday Inn just down the street on Van Ness before but wanted to try a new spot as this place seemed a little fancier. However we much would have rather stayed at the Holiday Inn as we were given a spot in the parking garage, breakfast was included and the room was much more spacious for the same price. We were hoping for more from the Marriott!
The courtyard was amazing! Got a room upgrade for it being our wedding day, and got concession vouchers. The room was beautiful, clean and very spacious. Bed was super comfy and shower was great size
Comfy Bed!!!
Clean friendly staff
I loved the cleanliness and the gated parking on property. Made my overall stay enjoyable.
Good hotel.
Worst Hotel experience of my life.
I booked my reservation at 8:41pm and arrived at the hotel at 9:10pm. At 9:20pm I left the hotel bc I was not allowed to check in. I did not have enough money for the incidental fee. I have stayed at this hotel twice prior in the last two months. Each time I was charged a $20 incidental fee. Tonight $100 was requested and I said I was unable to do that. I showed my receipts for the $20 incidental fees on my previous stays and asked why the fee was so much more this time and said I could do a fee of $50. I did not appreciate the response and conversation between the two employees at the front desk right after I said that. The employee not checking me in said to the other employee “it’s your call. You can charge $20” and the employee checking me in scoffed at that and said he wouldn’t do that. I was never given a key or checked in and I had to leave. Again my room had been paid for prior to me arriving. I had to drive an hour back to where I live. I’m very hurt and disturbed by what happened. The employees could have refunded me last night. I’ve had to message and call this morning trying to get a refund. Instead I get to feel embarrassed and shamed AGAIN explaining I couldn’t afford the incidental fee trying to get a refund.
First time staying in this area and was happy with my selection.

Do not stay here. Unsafe area. Foul smelling rooms
This hotel was awful. The staff was friendly I’ll give this hotel that but everything else was horrifying. My room was at the end of a long maze of rooms. The building smells old. My view was of crackheads on the street below me shooting up, screaming at each other and defecating out in the open…. To make matters worse my room smelled of something awful. Like mold. Or hot mold. When I called down to the front desks they said they had no other rooms available. Eventually a hotel employee did come up and said it smelled like the fridge had been left open and turned off… I couldn’t get rid of the smell no matter what. I almost left in the middle of the night with the combo of the crackheads below and the terrible smell from the room. The hotel employee suggested I open my window to air out the room but all that did was intensify the noise from the homeless people right below my window. I barely slept. It was awful. That smell. Oh my god. Would never stay here again and it is definitely not a safe area to be walking around at any time of day. Very disappointing.
Great
It is a comfprtable stay...I did not like paying $59 for parking on top of the room fee and then we got a lower parking spot where we had to walk up a flight of stairs just to go to the upper parking pad to get in the hotel
Meet my needs
Chose this location because it had on site parking. However, when we checked in, their parking was full & we had to go to a public parking structure a block over. Not a huge deal, just a bit inconvenient.
It was a great stay and the hotel felt very safe.
Helpful staff, great location
I loved the hotel and staff. I didn't like the fact that I could not get any reward points on my Marriot Bonvoy account because I booked the stay with Expedia.
Very nice
Birthday party
Central lcity location
Thoughtless
Arriving is a nightmare there was no sign pointing to our room number on the floor. If u are arriving by car they should give you instructions on how to find the secret entrance
Hotel is nicely renovated and service was great. Unfortunately, this part of SF has been overrun by homeless drug addicts making personal safety feel like a real issue.
Lovely Facility
The room was very neat and quiet. The bathroom was really lovely. Real tile and real glass doors! We were in town due to our son’s medical procedure and the hotel was very conveniently located. It’s a wonderful old building with wonderful updates!
SOLO TRAVEL
First solo trip and was very pleased with my entire experience. Safety is always a concern of mine and having to use a key card to get to your level in the elevator was a nice touch. Definitely planning to come back soon! Also having access to mels kitchen made is simple to grab a quick dinner with out having to step foot outside of the hotel.
Great stay. The bed was very comfy rooms were clean. Thank you.
It was very welcoming and clean.
Nice space Dark room. Would have been nice to have natural light
We enjoyed our stay.
Nicely decorated, very clean and comfortable.
The persons working in the front desk are the very nice the rooms nice and clean
The area around the property is unsafe especially at night. The hotel is okay, but I will not stay here again.
Beautiful hotel, great location.
Our fave hotel in San Francisco
As always great stay.
It's not Union Square but Van Ness Ave is safe and clean.
Everything was Nice, the checking thank you very very much Maria, à Nice staff person very adorable and professional, she assist us in any demand, she secure us for the surroundings, We love all the attentions that she gave, Thanks so much Maria. Nice room, Nice restaurant aussi Nice staffs there too, Thanks so much for your attention, and availability. We Will come back.
Perfectly Perfect Hotel
Overall great place to stay in the city! The room was do clean and fresh & the decor was absolutely gorgeous. Courteous Staff very helpful and welcoming. My sister's and I enjoyed our stay & will be recommending this hotel to everyone we know.
Low visibility signage for those arriving by car. More trees would be nice.
They allowed me to check in early. It was a very convenient location. Parking was gated so that was a relief. Staff was very nice.
Very clean
Staff was lovely. The hotel was very clean and some great restaurants close by.
That it looks antique that was nice touch.
The mattress and linen were very uncomfortable. The streets surrounding the hotel felt unsafe. It was a very good thing that you gave a hospital discount or we would not have stayed here. Charging $55 total for parking seems high but at least it was available.
Very nice check in. Homeless problem scary.
Despite the homeless element, everything was great.
Great time in SF!
It was a very clean and beautifully decorated hotel with locked parking and other security features. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The neighborhood is right next to not being great, so plan to Uber if you’re not comfortable walking.
Great property. Homelessness is out of control
It’s a good place, but extremely overpriced for really nothing. I found a place that was cheaper, in a better location. Just way overpriced. I guess if I’m paying that much there should be a little more. Tiny room, homeless view.
The lady who checked us in and out was incredibly efficient, friendly and welcoming. I didn't catch her name, but she really was a credit to the hotel.
Friends trip
Great reception by staff …. Hotel very clean
Ideal proximity to CPMC, Mel's Kitchen, & Tommy's
We were pressed for time. The access to CPMC was the main reason to stay at this location of the Courtyard. The hotel was clean, the service was kind, and there was plenty of room for families to stay. We ended up having to go back to the hotel the following day. The staff was really accommodating. In terms of service, Janea and Chiauita went above and beyond. These days, it's uncommon to find customer service with their level of hospitality, kindness, and respect.
connected to restaurant was good. noisy air conditioning whine and paper thin walls.
Beautiful interior. Staff very hospitable. Nice to have Mel's next door.
Great staff, historic, charming, quiet and clean SF hotel. Beds are very comfortable. We are staying here because a family member has a medical procedure at Sutter CPMC Van Ness Med Center. But this would be a great spot if you’re interested in seeing ALL of San Francisco and has a super secure parking facility with drug stores and restaurants very close by.
We arrived early because our son was having surgery (Sutter) across the street. The very helpful and nice lady at the front desk Allowed us to check in.
The staff was rude, and I didn’t like the discrimination comment made by the Asian night clerk. I recommend any other Marriott besides this one. The General Manager lacks service recovery. As Ambassador of Marriot I definitely didn’t receive the hospitality I’m custom to.
The hotel is safe and beautiful. Just have to be super aware outside on the streets. Typical SF homeless problems. Unbelievably unsafe.
Beautiful property and very helpful staff. However the area around is not safe to walk at night. Not fault of the hotel, just the area of the city unfortunately.
It’s close to the Tenderloin District so be Careful and aware as you walk around. The lobby is nice but there are no refreshments and no glasses if you bring your own.
Staff were accommodating and let us check in early. So kind!
A nice hotel for business travel. Conveniently located, clean and quiet.
Maria! Worked the desk. She was so helpful many times.Maria was also very kind and fun to talk to.By far one of my most pleasant memories.Thank You Maria!!! PS- all the staff at the front desk were quite helpful and kind.Good Stay!
Clean property, friendly staff, nice amenities
