Was ok, location was what we went for. Issues were the lifts could take forever, sometimes we just took the stairs. The air con was a box through the wall type which was noisy. Noise from the street if you’re on the front. Breakfast was the same every day, tinned sausages, scrambled eggs, bread. and fruit.

Do not stay here! It’s awful and expensive.

There were lots of ants all over the desk and around the room. A pipe burst in hallway flooding the elevator shafts and they had to shut down the elevators for part of the day. This isn’t the worst hotel I’ve stayed in but the only hotels I’ve stayed in that were worse were half the price. The price for this hotel was outrageous for how bad this property is.

Worth it

The check-in process over the New Year’s holiday was a little challenging. To be fair though the hotel recognized that we travelled overnight and they opened up a room to allow us to shower and change clothes. That was great. It took some time to get us into our room but once they fixed the issue the stay was great. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel breakfast was very good and a great way to begin the day. The location is really good and it’s easy to find. The only change we would make is to make the bed in the room a little more comfortable. Overall we had a great experience at Copa Sul Hotel.

Roughly one hundred dollars in Brazilian currency was stolen from my room while I was out to dinner. There was no sign of a break-in so I assume the thief must be someone who has access to the hotel's rooms. Obviously I would never stay there again. (I did not report the theft to the hotel, because I didn't realize the money was gone till I was at the bus station, and anyway, what could they have done?)

Clean, comfortable, great location, needs updating

Great location, near both Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. The rooms were clean, but the bathroom and air conditioning were quite outdated. Still, it was a nice place to stay for a couple of nights.

Staff was friendly. However, I had a hard time getting the room cleaned. I had to call the reception desk multiple times to get the room cleaned on two days of my stay. The elevator is also exceedingly slow.

This hotel was really nice, I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others visiting the area. All of the staff I was in contact with were very nice and helpful. Although I got there really early, way before check in time, I was able to use the restroom to change and had my luggage safely stored at the hotel. Checking in and out was very easy and seamless. Every night when we came back to the hotel the room was cleaned and our beds were neatly made. The room was also very clean when we arrived. The only “downside” or negative thing I have to say about the hotel was that there wasn’t more fruit for breakfast. I love having fruit for breakfast whenever I stay at hotels and although there was fruit, there wasn’t enough options for me. But the other non fruit options made up for that. Overall, I really liked the hotel and if I’m ever in the area again I’d definitely consider staying here again.

Custo benefício ok, mas não voltaria a me hospedar

Hotel com um custo benefício interessante. Bem localizado e limpo. Porém, tivemos um problema de dupla cobrança da hospedagem, que foi resolvido somente no último dia de hospedagem (do total de 3). Infelizmente tivemos um dessabor na ocasião da limpeza do quarto, que foi reportado ao hotel, e não tratado. Dos 5 atendentes (recepcionistas) que lá estavam 3 eram pouco amistosos e desatenciosos. Os outros 2 eram educadíssimo e gentis. De uma maneira geral, tivemos 2 intercorrências por 3 dias de hospedagem. Razão pela qual não voltaria a me hospedar. Outros pontos negativos: Não dispõem de estacionamento e não disponibilizam ferro de passar roupa. Café da manhã é bom, mas nada de outro mundo. Como disse, um bom custo benefício.

Good location, terrible air conditioning, poor wif

This hotel is in a good location. Breakfast is adequate. The a/c however is a window unit that simply does not do the job to keep your room cool enough. It also made a constant loud noise. Had to complain several times, but without any positive results. Wi-Fi was very weak and was not available at all sometimes.

Never Stay At This Hotel!!! Terrible experience!!! Horrible service, especially night time, security did not let me and my family get in to the hotel!!! We had to search different hotel during the night time (2am). We stayed 3 nights and they did not let us in to the hotel for the rest of our staying. Next morning we came back and check out from the hotel. Manager did not resolve this situation. I'm expecting full refund for all nights. Very traumatic experience. Don't even think to book this hotel.

Good clean modern hotel very near beach

A clean and modern hotel that is right in a excellent position of Copacabana. The beach is 2 minutes away and access to shops atms etc also not far. Hotel room was funcional, though do bear in mind it can be noisy if on road side, but honestly this is to expected.mini bar was surprisingly reasonably priced, aircon was ok, but strangely positioned on the floor so room seemed to take awhile to cool. Breakfast was excellent plenty of choice and lots of fresh fruit. Overall a nice hotel for exploring rio.

everything is great except for front desk friendli

unbeatable proximity to the beach, everything is great except for the following. Front desk people are not service oriented, I don't know if this is a thing in brazil but they do not acknowledge guests coming in and out? the rest of the hotel staff are all polite and greet you. The front desk appears to think they are better than everyone else, especially the woman at the front desk should not be in the service industry.

Good hotel

I arrived for check in at 1pm in the morning and everything was ready for me after travelling for 30 hours to get to Rio. - the room had not vanished - payment received - desk staff spoke English - the shower was hot - the bed was comfortable

Awesome hotel!

All of the staff are incredidbly helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. We very much enjoyed our stay there! The breakfast is also very delicious and has a great variety of food! The location is a fantastic area and the beach is just next door!

very bad experience with this hotel

I spent 3 nights in this hotel and I will not recommend this hotel to anyone. To start with, the hotel staff was intolerable. They were not generous in anything. The service was very poor. The room was not cleaned everyday.

They do not tell you on their website that they charge 4 Reais per day to use the safe in the room. The room was dirty. One day (out of four) they did not clean it at all. Bedsheets had stains on them upon arrival and were not changed subsequently. The food was uncovered in the dining room and there were a lot of flies flying around. Traffic noise at the front of the hotel is notable even with windows closed. On the positive side, the porters were very helpful, reception staff generally friendly, lots of choice for breakfast and location very convenient.

Comfy, clean and well located

The staff were helpful and friendly. The room clean and comfortable. Bed a bit hard but ok. No English speaking TV. Good shower temperature and pressure. Well located one block from Copacabana beach and on main shopping road. Short walk to Metro and supermarket. Bank next door. Breakfast has a lot of options although didn't change in 4 days. Ask for room away from street as was a little noisy. Good internet.

Best place to stay and enjoy Copacabana Beach

Only a block away from Copacabana beach, this is a great little hotel. We arrived at 8am and they allowed us to check in early. They even gave us a much bigger room. The breakfast buffet was also really good. The front desk is very helpful and the room is very very comfortable.

Good place to locate in Sao

We were made to feel welcome and safe. After all the negative talk about street safety in Sao, we were concerned about going out but found this location very well situated and in a relatively safe and comfortable area of Sao. Transport to the attractions was readily available

3 nights in Copa Sul Hotel

located in a run-down part of Copacabana, it's the staff who make this place a little special. It's not a big hotel but the breakfast buffet was among the best I've seen in a long time. Rooms are big enough and very clean. Staff go out of their way to be helpful and estimate taxi fares before helping you into one.

New years eve in Rio

We picked this hotel quickly off of Expedia after staying at another hotel with in a few blocks that was beach front. We were pleasantly surprised because we were going with this less expensive option. The room was also bigger as were the beds.

Hotel is one road off copocobana beach. Hotel is very clean, and ideal for our 5 night stay in Rio. Breakfast was nice too.

A decent place to stay in Copacabana

This was an okay place to stay, but not the best. My fiancée and I liked the service of the staff, and the breakfast buffet was quite nice, but the rooms seemed old and the walls very thin. We could clearly hear people talking, going to the bathroom, and taking showers when we were in our own bathroom. When lying in bed we could also hear phones ringing next door and people very loudly in the hallway. It made us feel like everyone could also hear us, and that we had to whisper.

worst hotel ever!

The hotel staff was unfriendly and they just tried to charge guests as much as they can. They charge for extra person, vold...etc. and the room was horrible including beds, toilet. The hair blower was not working as well. Whenever I call the reception from the room, they were very unkind and even hung up my phone before I finished speaking. Overall the service and facility both were really bad. I paid 250 dollars per night and the service was terrible. I will never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Tourist class hotel in excellent location.

The hotel is clean, the room was spacious and everything operated. It's location close to Copacabana Beach and shopping facilities made it ideal from a visitors viewpoint. The metro was less than 10 minutes walk away while frequent bus services passed the door. The breakfast was ample although lacked variety. The room was cleaned and towels replaced daily. My only criticism would be the desk staff who although polite enough could have been more forthcoming with tourist recommendations. Overall this hotel exceeded my expectations for the price paid.

Good Value in a Great Location

This is a simple hotel (no gym, no pool) with basic but spacious and comfortable rooms in an excellent location - near the end of Copacabana Beach, one block from the beachfront. The only downside was the rather unfriendly attitude of the staff at the front desk, and the noise from the street for rooms facing Avenida Nossa Senhora da Copacabana..

The hotel staff were pretty nice but the condition of the room was no way a "3 star". The bed comforters were very old and stained, the TV only had one channel and the shower leaked out into the bathroom. It was nice to have free wifi and it did have a safe for a small fee. The hotel was one block from Copacabana Beach, so just a 2-3 minute walk.

Great location

Good Hotel for leisure stay at Rio de Janeiro . Rooms are clean . Air conditioning can be regulated and switched on/off very easily .

the hotel itself was good enough given the price. the breakfast was pretty good, plenty of options. the internet didn't work at all for the first two days, hotel said it was an external issue but it was still down for some time. Bell-boy helped us a lot with our onward travel, he went out of his way to help us out. However when we left the bellboy took 15 mins to flag down a taxi and then gave it someone else in the queue who just arrived! tours booked with them had no information provided, and walls were thin, and noisy tin roof next to our room made a lot of noise one night. great little per kilo food place down the road was fantastic. overall good enough for the price but not great.

It is a nice hotel located on one of the main streets in Copacabana and really close to the ocean which we loved. The closed train station is closed right now but the other one is only a short walk. We had and amazing time iRio!

Good location but functional

Close to metro station (Cantagalo), to Copacabana beach, (10 mins walk to) Ipanema beach, close to restaurants and pharmacy. Get a room on one of the higher floors because street noise is definitely an issue. Internet is free but patchy. You may not be able to get work done. They have two free internet stations downstairs that are marginally better. Clean rooms. But we did not have warm/hot water in the shower one day. Breakfast was the same every day. Friendly staff. No gym.

Good value in an excellent location

The outside doesn't look too impressive but once inside the hotel proved to be really good. The staff were very helpful and the check-in process was as quick as can be expected at any hotel in Brazil. The room was fresh and clean without any signs of damage. Everything worked as it should. The location of this hotel is excellent, being about a 3 minute walk from Copacabana and about a 10 minute walk from Ipanema. I intend to stay here again in the near future.

Clean but lacking

Wifi was on again/off again- very difficult if you need to do work, Skype, or just check email. A/C was so loud I had to sleep with ear plugs in- not kidding! Overall clean and nice location. Get a high floor for street noise issues.

good hotel, close to Copacabana and Ipanema

hotel is located 5 min from Copacabana and a 10 min walk from Ipanema, this part of Copacabana feels safe at night and there's tons of restaurants and bars in the area. Room is spacious and comfortable. The downside is that most rooms face a big boulevard which is extremely noisy early in the morning and almost impossible to stay asleep. Internet is free but pretty much absent all the time, which seems to be a general problem with Rio hotels. Breakfast is good, lots of options even if you go late for breakfast. Staff is helpful, though spoken English is not very good

hotel is in a excellent location easy access to the beach. the bank is next door, close proximity to local shops, bars and restaurants. the hotel staff are very helpful and informative on places to eat and organising excursions. only negative would be the rooms and bathrooms need updating in comparison to the hotel communal areas I.e. reception and restaurant. specific attention needs to be made to the cleanliness of the bathroom as there were some mould/damp spores on the ceiling, also there was a large vent in the bathroomwhich made it possible to hear people in the next room.(not good as I was woken early on some mornings with the sound of their shower or toilet flushing)

Visiting Rio on Business

Hotel Is small, not quaint but small. Nothing to do at the hotel a well run expensive motel, Breakfast was the same every day for a week adequate. It Is near the Beach and restaurants. But nothing to do at the hotel must go out. Also the cable Television was not working so really nothing to do. the Staff was great ,helpful and friendly really the best thing about this hotel and its saving grace....Will recommend if you are just looking for a place to sleep and shower...

Great location, good breakfast, not clean

Location is very good, 1 block from Copacabana beach, which contrary to most reviews, its pretty safe if you have common sense. The hotel staff is very kind, but cleanliness is definitely not their forte. One day they even forgot to clean the room! Towels are old, sheets are not done properly and it seems the ladies spend no more than 5 minutes superficially cleaning dust and leave. For the price of this hotel, I would expect more. Wi-fi is not the fastest, but free.

great choice for price, location, comfort, etc

At the price I'd stay here again for sure. Very convenient to Copacabana Beach, and a pleasant short (10 min) walk to Ipanema which was our favorite beach. Fine location on busy street, with convenient access to all needs (Rx, restaurants, etc). Room was pleasant, clean. For the reasonable price this hotel was excellent.

New rooms, clean, GREAT location

I stayed there doing Carnival week (Feb.2013). If you are planning to have someone over - book for extra person online(will be cheaper), otherwise this place will charge you $100 /night for extra person just being there. The location is great. It's right in between Copacabana (1 minute walk) and Ipanema (5 minutes walk) beaches. Rooms are new, remodeled, clean bathroom. Service is great and very helpful. Only thing is Air Conditioner, wasn't very strong. I also stayed in other hotels and found that as a common problem - they don't want to invest in new AC units. I just left it ON all the time, so when I get back, room was comfy. They also had a doorman who offers you "good" restaurants but clearly you can tell it's a tourists trap - he get's commission for every customer that he brings. I don't mind about that but the food and service in those places was not good, plus overpriced. Also offered me a taxi driver back to airport - almost missed my flight, the guy clearly had never been at the airport before. Never tried their breakfast, but they say it's good. But yes, overall - just because of the location and fair price comparing to other joints, this is a good place to stay.

Average hotel

Ok hotel, nothing wrong with it, nothing great about it. location is good. rooms are comfortable. bathroom ok. expensive for what it is though, inflated by about 50%, but then all hotels in the zona sul in Rio are.

The hotel will charge you based on the number of gust staying in the room, NOT the number of beds. This was a surprise to me which I then had to pay for.

Copacabana hotel

The hotel is in a good location. The only problem I had was with the air conditioning in the room, it wouldn't cool properly. The hotel staff came to my room twice but it didn't make any difference they also didn't offer to change me to another room and I didn't insists because of the inconvenience of moving everything to another room. Overall the experience was good and the breakfast buffet had a good variety of food.

Clean but overpriced

I stayed for two night (September 2012). The room was clean and plain, do not expect any amenities because there are none, no iron, no clock radio, cheap bar soap - think Motel Six. However, the the breakfast buffet and the service was pleasant plus. There is free wifi but I could only get it in the lobby. As with most hotels in Rio they are overpriced for what they offer.

I loved the stay at this Hotel, the staff are friendly and the food is really good. The rooms are basic but meet the need.

I liked the location and the breakfast (I must say the fruits were tasteless, though). On he other hand, the lobby was under renovation and so everything was dusty.

Great location and good value

Copa Sul is one block from Avenida Atlantica and Copacabana Beach and Ipanema Beach is a ten minute walk. It's also close to the Ipanema/General Osirio Metro station, so the location is hard to beat. The hotel is not overly luxurious, but it's well maintained and the rooms are comfortable and a decent size, and the decor is pretty pleasant. Breakfast is quite good with a couple of hot dishes and a good array of cold cuts, cheeses, breads, pastries, fruits, etc. The other thing that is great about the location is that everything you need is close by, lavenderia (laundry) is one block over, Copa Sul grocery store is around the corner, banks, pharmacies in the next block, restaurants (including a couple of good 24-hour options within a block) etc, everything is super handy. If you're on a budget, this is a very good choice. I found the staff quite helpful and friendly too.

The location and the breakfast were great. It's close to the metro station ( three blocks away) and the breakfast buffet has many varieties, including cereals, bread, hams, eggs, sussages, various fruits and deserts. However, the wifi connection was poor. You may use the Internet service in the computer room instead.

Location of cop a sul hotel is perfect for beach goers, just one block is copacabana beach. I commend the front desk staff who were so helpful and accommodating specially Leandro. He made our stay in rio memorable.

I enjoyed my stay at the Copa Sul Hotel in Rio on Copacabana beach. Was a clean hotel with excellent service. The location was amazing - one block away from the beach. Great restaurants and people. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends.

Copa Sul Hotel

This hotel was reasonably priced, clean, and comfortable. Breakfast was good. Some of the staff were wonderful and were able to speak English fluently. The wireless connection was sporadic at best and the hotel computers were frequently being used or, at times, not functioning. The hotel was a block and 1/2 away from Copacabana Beach.

Lousy Hotel!

This hotel stinks! Do not waste your money because it is a tourist trap. The exterior looks nice enough however, the rooms do not resemble the photos. Our room was DIRTY!! Can you imagine DIRTY LINENS when you remove the bedspread? They had not been changed. Bathrooms are hideous. Absolutely a filthy and disppointing mess. Air conditioniners are ancient and all buttons are removed so you can't change any settings. Ridiculous! Should not even be $*a night let alone the $* a night they post on this website. Save your money and go somewhere else!

Excelente opção em Copacabana!

Hotel bem localizado em Copacabana a um quarteirão da praia, e pertinho de Ipanema. Cama e travesseiros super confortáveis, garantiu ótima noite de sono. O café da manhã é maravilhoso, parece de hotel 5 estrelas! Bem planejado e com muita variedade sem exageros, ou seja, um pouco de td com muita qualidade! Achei um show!

Realmente concordo com as outras avaliações e a parte do chuveiro não é das melhores, box muito apertado para pessoas grandes e o chuveiro em si é desconfortável, mas possui água quente e fria. Café da manhã muito bom, no entanto, pode ficar repetitivo para quem vai passar médias e longas estadias. No geral é um bom hotel, com um ótimo custo benefício.

Inicialmente pedi quarto com cama de casa, porém entregaram com camas separadas. Posteriormente nos deram um quarto que o ar não funcionava corretamente e quando funcionou era extremamente barulhento.

Sensacional!

Muito boa! Fui bem recebido pela equipe! Fui com minha filha de 1 ano e foram absurdamente próximos e amigáveis. Desta para três pessoas que infelizmente não sei os nomes: uma senhora que trabalha na recepção na parte da tarde, a gerente e toda equipe do restaurante e a moça da limpeza. O hotel é meio antigo mas não tive problemas. Recomendo demais!

Hotel bem localizado

O hotel é super bem localizado, perto da praia, restaurantes e supermercado. O ruim é que o banheiro é muito pequeno e o box super apertado. O recepcionista da noite, um senhor, faz piadas com os hóspedes sendo muito inconveniente e até assedia as hóspedes. As pessoas fumam cigarros eletrônicos nas áreas comuns e elevadores. O local do café da manhã é pequeno para o hotel e a reposição e a limpeza das mesas é lenta.

Estadia com preco justo. So nao dei nota maxima porque no fim infelizmente nos decepcionamos. Cobraram R$35,00 numa batata chips que pegamos no quarto. Absurdo total.
