We liked that it’s small resort, different from the mainstream , and excellent food
This property was beautiful and away from the crazy loud music in Playa del Carmen. It was a perfect retreat for peace and relaxation. We loved it.
Beautiful tropic setting. Staff was attentive but not intrusive. The cabanas are so fun! The restaurant earned it reputation for good food and great pizza.
This property is... interesting. I think the room itself was honestly fine, but the water was salty and the shower filled up to be a tiny bath. We had to wait for the water to go down the drain very slowly before the second person was able to shower. I cannot say enough about how disgusting it is to brush your teeth salty water. I thought we were sucking water right out of the ocean. How are you clean with salty water? Youch.
Really liked the tropical/jungle surroundings. The compact nature of Cocos meant that pool and restaurant were just 30 feet away(and the food is so good) and it was just a 2 min walk to the beach
We have loved the food at Sylvia & Helmets place over the years. This year we needed a place to stay for one night… romantic and lovely as expected. The only drawback is the location with respect to beach & neighbors… not the greatest. But staff and feel were great
Beautiful place with personality , very close to the beach. Very helpful staff.
Cute and sincere!
The cabanas were cute…reminded us of rondavels in South Africa and Namibia, with thatched roofs. The queen bed was tremendously comfortable. The little park area had fountains everywhere, hammocks and a heart shaped swimming pool. Service was outstanding, breakfast was excellent and included I. The room price. We also ate at the restaurant both days we were there….food was excellent.
Terrible experience
Does the hotel have a management? I dont think so! I have been trying to call them for 7 days no response
we left the hotel earlier than expected due to the conditions of the room and cleanliness. We’re going to request refund for 3 nights. TV didn’t work, microwave didn’t wirk, A/C was bad, no internet in the room, shower water qas salty and we had to buy bottle water to shower.
Great stay, friendly staff. The shower and kitchen sink is saltwater, which threw us off because we were not prepared for that. But overall still a great stay.
Pro: Very quiet and calm. Small property that lends to its coziness. Cons: This is so far away from the city with such limited means of transportation that it should not be called Playa Del Carmen. You cannot walk and take any kind of public transportation. You always have to ask the hotel to call a cab whenever you want to go anywhere, which would cost you a lot. Otherwise, you have to rent your own car which is expensive and not advisable in a foreign country. There is nothing to do around the property. There are long empty roads with nothing but other mega resorts. The WiFi doesn't reach the rooms, but only around the pool area. When they advertise the hotel having Wifi, I was misled into thinking that the rooms have wifi too. Food in the restaurant was pretty meh. Granted, we dont eat meat and the options are very limited, but even then the pizzas we nothing to rave about. The water in bathrooms are so salty, you can sense it without even tasting them. Salt water is BAD for skin and hair. I repeat, it is EXTREMELY DAMAGING for skin and hair. You cannot expect us to buy 200ml water bottles for 30 peso every time we want to wash face/take bath. Overall the vibe at the place felt right for someone who is retired to relax without really moving around. There isn't much to do at the property either. We paid 500 USD for five nights and had to forfeit it and leave after just one day because it felt so horrible, and we didn't want to ruin our entire holiday because of it.
The bungalows are very charming. The garden surrounding the bungalows is very pleasant and beautifully designed with fountains, tropical plants and a delightful swimming pool. The owners and staff are very accommodating. The restaurant’s tropical theme next to the pool is very relaxing and the food delicious. The menu is very complete along with a wonderful selection of pizzas cooked in a clay oven on an open wood fire. The chefs are to be commended for their culinary skills. A beautiful private and secure beach is next to the hotel with controlled access. Overall it was a wonderful vacation.
Awesome little local spot with fantastic staff and a free breakfast. If you want a place with a bit more character than the generic hotel option this is a great option.
Hidden gem
Cocos Cabanas was a great hidden gem...steps away from the water and a fabulous restaurant. Definitely will stay again!
Salt or marine water
Salt water on the whole unit shower sink even on toilet why use sea water. Not sure
Nice gem in playa. Good food
Wonderful Cabanas
Wonderful place with nice cabanas. Hotel with restaurant, food is excellent. To the beach 50m.
Skip the big hotels stay at this piece of paradise
Excellent beautiful quiet little hotel. Amazing service. Super friendly staff. Comfy beds. Hot water. Very clean. The restaurant is fantastic. You couldn't ask for more. The owner charming and very helpful. Skip the big hotels and stay at this piece of paradise
Cute hotel, with cabanas, pool. Have to say the restaurant has some great food & staff!! Margaritas were great also.
One of a kind place to stay
Amazing place to relax and enjoy nature.
Cocos Cabanas is an amazing, rustic place to stay. Small and quaint! Upon arriving, you are welcomed by a friendly staff, who treat you like friends right away. You wind through a beautiful jungle style path to get to your own cabana, which does not disappoint! Beautifully designed and comfortable. They have a beautiful pool, and thatched roof bar and restaurant. With use of a fire brick oven, they make bake their own pizzas and bread. So good! The margaritas and mojitoes are made by hand and excellent. Breakfast is included and delicious. It's not right on the beach, but a short walk through private property, of which they loan you a key for access. We felt immediately at home, and spoiled there. You will too! We are definitely coming back, and plan to stay longer. Highly recommended.
It's so welcoming and beautiful here! The staff was amazing and helpful. Bicycles available, but after a while there aren't many places you can go without a taxi. I really cannot explain how absolutely beautiful this place is!
Skip the resort a few nights to book this.
I loved the staff. They were very friendly, patient, and helpful. I only speak a small amount of Spanish and some of the staff don’t speak much English. The food was amazing. We swam in the pool most of the night floating staring at the stars through the palm tree leaves, which felt amazing and like paradise. Being off the beach there was still private access with a small walk, and certain staff members could get closer access as they know the family that lives between them and the beach. Better to have a few drinks next door at the resort for the cover and hangout in the woven cover we were calling Groot. My only complaint, which was not a huge deal was the room water is not fresh water. This did not hinder the stay, as they did provide bottled water that I used to brush my teeth and rinse my face after showering. Back to the food...The food was so good that there were some regular guests coming from the resorts near by every night, skipping their inclusive meal to come here. We stayed for 4 nights before heading to a resort to get a little different experience and honestly loved this place better than the resort, with the exception of the salty showers. Will very likely come back here. Most of my photos were on tour but got a few good ones and one over looking the pool towards the eating area.
The lodging was very comfortable and the restaurant delicious.
Overall very satisfied with the property. Staff was great. The best part of the hotel is their food. The hotel could use some updates but for the price and location can’t ask for anything more. Totally recommend.
Everything was excellent about my stay at cocos Cabañas. Friendly staff and very welcoming. My room was always clean and had everything I needed for my stay. I like to thank all the staff from Marco , Rene and the owner and hope to see you guys near the future. I recommend the big fried fish and the pizzas cooked on their smokers. Also walking distance and easy access to the beach. Also about 40 min away from the Talum ruins and close to all the cenotes. Thank you again for pleasant stay !
This is the cutest place we have ever stayed! Sweet little bungalows, absolutely adorable, and we had a second floor bungalow so it was like a tree house! The owners are so very nice, they have owned it since 1997, and they have a little pizzeria/restaurant on property. It’s a little off the beaten path but it is so worth the effort finding it!! Amazing stay!!!
Excellent staff. Great restaurant. Beautiful setting and the cabanas are super cute. But there are no doors on the bathroom. And salt water in the shower, the bathroom taps and the kitchenette. A little too rustic for me.
Mixed feelings about our Stay. We had read good reviews. I want to give a fair review.. There were some positive things but some negatives seemed to take over. Accommodation not as described and we felt we were in a more basic room. No safe, no rainfall shower head, no coffee machine, the room needed a freshen up...broken door, empty dvd boxes!! And there Is a problem with cockroaches ( perhaps to be expected in a rural place) Not great for the anxiety. 3 times customers tried to enter our room thinking it was the bathrooms !! Having to point things out became embarrassing for us. And wasn’t met well. However .... There is a great beach club for your use, and the restaurant serves good food. The coffee at breakfast was good too. It’s a small oasis set in lovely gardens with a Pool and hammocks, it’s very pretty, but our stay was spoilt by things that could easily be put right. It’s not expensive accommodation but whatever the price comfort, cleanliness would be expected. I wouldn’t discourage a stay but some simple things need to be sorted for a better experience. We wish them well, it’s a busy place and maybe we were expecting too much for our Dollar.
Thatched roof and salty shower make this sound like a rustic undertaking, but it's really just a hotel room. At a pizza place. In Mexico. So still weird. But mostly in the best ways. Right now beach access is more complicated than usual because of construction next door. But you'll still get there.
the breakfast was insufficient. Insects bit me in the room.
Excelente servicio y limpieza. Ojalá pueda volver pronto
Estancia excelente!
I really enjoyed my stay here. My cabana was very nice and had a cool decor. The staff was friendly and the food was very good. Can't beat this place for the price.
