ACCRA'S HIDDEN GEM
The old concept of offering genuine “service with a smile” is a rare thing these days but is alive and well in the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra. From first contact, the standard of customer service was exceptional. A 2-hour flight delay late made us worry that the free hotel transport would be long gone but as we exited Accra’s brand spanking new Terminal 3, it was great to see our name on a board held by the Regency’s friendly and approachable driver. Check-in was smooth and professional but rather than being met with a forced grin common to many reception desks, Alpha, the duty manager, seemed genuinely glad to greet us and welcomed us with a much-appreciated chilled coconut. Things got better as, due to the hotel being very full, we were upgraded to a suite. If first impressions really do count, Alpha had scored a direct hit. Check out was equally painless. Our room was spotlessly clean and spacious with incredible solid, hand-carved wooden furniture featuring traditional African scenes. All the rooms are in excellent condition with air conditioning to add to the comfort and a strong 24-hour security team ensure safety. The hotel is very well located with easy access to the Accra’s vibrant night life. Our stay at The Regency was amazing. The friendly and helpful staff give a true warm Ghanaian feel to the place. It is a real gem, infinitely preferable to the many overpriced “Westernised” alternatives. Highly recommended.
Internet not consistent . Airport shuttle unreliable
Ok but not great
Hotel is tired and they are busy with renovations- no pool or gym available.
Room was good but storage was issue, no cup boards in room, bathroom was bigger than room, little awkward in staying. gym was dirty and machines were out of order. not very great experience.
no wifi working, air condition not working well, room a bit dirty, hair in bed
Mid price hotel in Accra
Hotel caters mainly for business rather than tourism. Wifi worked in the room but not very well in the bar or the restaurant area. The staff were very welcoming and organised a car with a driver for us - Ibrahim, who was absolutely first class, very reliable and an excellent driver. Evening meal in the restaurant was slow but this seems typical in Ghana. Overall, the hotel was spotless, the staff friendly and I would stay here again
i enjoyed my stay at this please i will definitely come back to the hotel again
The service at the hotel is very good indeed. However, breakfast is average and the TV channel selection available in the room is very poor indeed. Also, no newspapers in the public/common areas (e.g. reception, breakfast room). However, on balance, for a short business trip, the hotel is comfortable and convenient.
Good value hotel
I was looking for a good value hotel for a business trip - where the money came out of my pocket. I followed the Expedia ranking and found the Coconut Grove to be a friendly, good value hotel close to the places I needed to visit.
Hotel OK but with a few niggles
The staff are friendly, the room was very spacious and the facilities OK. A few niggles: the room was rather dark; the shower hose wasn't long enough for the head to reach the holder; you need to remember to switch on an immersion heater 15 minutes before you want to have a shower; but probably the greatest annoyance was the poor wifi in my room - it wasn't worth trying to use it.
Good Service
Stayed 4 nights and stay was comfortable. Location with respect to my conference hall was quite good. Restaurant was good but choices were limited specially for vegetarians. Breakfast , though ok, was a bit monotonous.
Canceled 1 night of reservation without informing
This hotel took it upon itself to cancel my reservation with them for an extra night without telling me. They claimed they "told hotels.com" although I never received any communication to that effect. This caused a major problem for us.I do not recommend this hotel.
Nice place in Accra
This hotel was very welcoming, clean and well kept. Nice areas to relax at the end of the day; pool bar and swimming and indoor/outdoor dining.
Careful: canceled last night of reservation
Coconut Grove took it upon itself to cancel our last night without telling us. They refused to give an explanation and claimed they "informed hotels.com" of this...no evidence that occurred. In looking online for a new hotel (which we found -- Afia Village Resort, go there instead) I noticed Coconut Grove was still offering rooms the same night they cancelled us...at 4x what we paid. Dishonest. Avoid them.
Unilateral Cancelation of Reservation
We booked to stay there for 3 nights and then a final single night upon returning 3 days later from a trip outside of Accra. On my last day during the first segment of our stay there I simply said that I'd look forward to seeing them again in a couple of days and the receptionist casually informed me they had canceled that reservation and had "informed hotels.com". (I never heard anything from hotels.com) Looking up on hotels,.com that same day, they STILL had rooms but at 400 plus USD. Hmmm.. NOT ETHICAL. Good thing I asked or we would have returned late at night from a long road trip to no bed.
In person, its beautiful
My friend and I each had a single room and both were very very pleased. However, the staff is what made the stay really memorable. Everyone, including the two little doggies that hang out in the lobby, were totally accommodating, helped us find cars with drivers who were terriffic, the business center downloaded a wifi driver that I needed and their wifi access was top notch and much much more. I would stay there again without question.
Average Hotel
Nothing to write home about in terms of the rooms. Wifi was strong and service staff was very good.
easy place to stay
The Coconut Groove was a pleasant place to stay and the staff was great and went above and beyond for me. Only problems were that the card that my office claims to have used to cover my room ahead of time was not on file, so I had to pay out of pocket and there were some minor maintenance issues (door to courtyard was kind of broken and my shower head holder was not completely secured to the wall).
Great hotel for business travellers
Good service and friendly staff. The hotel is run with quiet efficiency - all staff seem to know their roles and perform them well. I had a suite so was very comfortable and roomy for work and relaxation. Good shady area near cocktail bar for sitting and working. Some slight criticisms: hotel pool is in a very exposed position, in the middle of the courtyard - no-one using it - no sun beds out. Gift shop could be expanded as there are no local craft shops near. Too much writing and paper work when checking out - several separate bills (tax etc) and makes checking out a long process.
Friendly relaxed hotel, in convenient position
I try to stay here on business trips to Ghana. Rooms are always clean and comfortable, and welcome warm. Positioned about half way between airport and the centre of Accra. If you prefer a smaller, informal and relaxed hotel over an impersonal international chain, this is the one for you.
Good place, close in
Pleasant and quiet environment. Pictures on website do not do justice. Rooms somewhat plain. Decent restaurant. convenient location. Internet was poor, but reception blamed it on the ISP.
close to my conference venue
Great
Value for money
A very friendly hotel ideal for people visiting Accra on business, but still prefer a quiet hotel with a typical Ghanaian ambiance. The property is slightly old.
A standout by Western standards
After spending 2 weeks in terrible hotels througout Ghana, we decided to treat ourselves with something nicer. We were leary becuase all the 4 and 5 star hotels got average or less reviews when spending 200 USD or more per nigth. With that, If I was going to take a chance, I was not gping to spend that kind of money. I am glad we chose Coconut Grove!. The beds were comfortable, they had stable electricty all the time and the service and food were outstanding. i will stay here again and skip the so called 5 star hotles on the beach. The staff is excellent and exceeds our Western standards!
Adequate and reasonably good value for money
I know Accra well and there are plenty of hotels to choose from these days. Coconut Grove overs pretty good value for money for the business traveller but there is not a touristy feel and certainly no holiday atmosphere in the hotel, which is a shame for those of us who travel for pleasure and not for business.
The hotel hosts open air wedding reception/parties in which loud music is played to the discomfort of guests who reside in the rooms. This made my stay very stressful for the most part. I will advise that the various conference and banquet halls should be used for wedding parties and receptions instead of the paved quadrangle.
Not great.
The water turned off completely twice for many hours during our two day stay. Service was lacking and overall not as nice as you'd expect from the price.
very cosy african style hotel . beautifull
liked it very much
Our Coconut Grove stay was a very nice. The hotel staff was very helpful w/our internet issues, & all the staff was personable on some level which is nice. Our room was pretty basic, A.C worked great & TV was okay. Our room had small fridge to keep our water bottles cold. breakfast was mostly continental, however each morning there was a a person to make you eggs to your liking. We didn't use the pool, however it looked very clean. Would reccomend this hotel for anyone needing to stay close to gov't offices, or people who what central Accra location. Traffic can be HORRIBLE so was nice to be close to many of the things we needed.
Nice Middle-Class Hotel in Central Accra
Coconut Grove is a quiet friendly and very safe place in North Ridge, from where all of Central Accra can be easily reached. The architecture is charming with brick facade and a large courtyard. My room (in the newer building) was large and clean, bathroom very functional, AC and (free) internet working well. Good breakfast with fresh prepared eggs or pancakes and nice Ghanaian food in the restaurant. Usually the place is pretty quiet, only Wednesday nights it gets crowded when they have Salsa night. 5 minutes walk to the very hip +233 music bar.
The Classic Accra Hotel
A consistently up to the challenge standard hotel that got even friendlier compared to the earlier years.Well, the pool was on renovation but doesn t that show that things are being well maintained?
Simple but clean and functional
A good alternative to the pricier hotels further down on Independence Avenue.
Moyen
Nice hotel, Splendid staff
Good choice
Nice hotel and friendly, helpful staff. Expensive for Africa, but average price for Accra.
OK I guess
Nothing fancy, but not too bad.
fairly ok hotel with LOUSY breakfast and dinner area.
ligging in mooie buurt entoch dicht bij centrum
aangenaam hotel;goed onderhouden, mooie tuin.zeer vriendelijk personeel.Men hoort niets in de kamers.

The staff is excellent.
The staff, especially Daisy, were professional, friendly and especially accommodating. Daisy was attentive and took excellent care of us. The young men were attentive and helped us with our luggage. When it was less crowded, I had efficient service in the restaurant. One suggestion, instruct the guests on how to turn on the hot water for showers. Also, before booking, advise the guest that there are no elevators
