The staff was excellent. I felt the price for the place was high in comparison to some other places in Mombasa. The room was smaller than expected. I enjoyed the pool, and food was good.
All the facilities are old and lack of maintenance. Dining choice is very basic and many flies in the dining area. Overpriced compared with its condition.
OK
Incredibly pleasant and helpful staff. Great location with incredible views. Ability to take stroll along early mornings or evenings. Indian Ocean few feets away, so calming and constantly at your service providing the perfect cool down. Beautifully maintained public pool for your use.
This is an older property, so there are some things that are not perfect. I would stay here again with no hesitation and actually would prefer this over a fancy hotel any day because I like the peace and quiet. We stayed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights. There was no crowd and no loud music. Again, perfect for me. The entire area was clean and safe. Parking was secure. The place is well off the main roads, so there is zero noise from traffic and the only foot traffic is on the beach. Very safe. This hotel is pretty far away from the other hotels, so the beach area was always quiet. The people who sell things are all around the other hotels. Walking distance if you want to see it, but we didnt have to deal with them non-stop, so we were able to relax. A/c was good, but we left the windows open and were very comfortable day and night (Early March). Maybe it was just the time of year, but we didnt see 1 mosquito. No screens on the windows and our bed didnt have a mosquito net....but we didnt need them either. We were on the top floor, beach side. Wifi was enough to check email, but not good enough for social media or streaming. Buy a mobile data package if you need it. SafariCom worked well for us. The hotel food was good and the staff was great. Zero complaints. Roberto's Italian restaurant is a must and is only a couple minutes away by car.
If you appreciate nonstop ocean views, clean/air conditioned rooms, helpful/gracious/professional staff, great food and a nice ocean breeze…you will love this resort. There was a view of the Indian Ocean from every step I took on the property (including both rooms I had) other than the wash room and the elevator. There are open sitting rooms and balconies on each floor that offer comfortable seating and more views of the Indian Ocean. If you require more…you can sit in the lobby, on the patio or at shaded tables on the lawn. The exchange between the ocean and the resort is so engaging and uninterrupted, I completely forgot the busy/noisy streets of Mombasa were a couple of hundred meters away. I came for a week and stayed two. The staff is: friendly, courteous and professional. The management is: available, interested, engaged and helpful without being intrusive. I could not have asked for more.
One of my favorite spots in Mombasa.
The view to the beach is the only thing nice about this place. Bathroom was dirty nothing modern towels dirty walls dirty. Flies all over during breakfast. Only stayed cause all other places were booked.
Nothing unique, looks run down, online pictures don’t show the wear and tear.
Great boutique hotel but could use a bit of renovation.
Amazing hotel, rooms and staff fully followed up
Great Hotel, specious rooms and common areas, lobby is inviting, service minded staff, very helpful, great pool, and lawn area, balcony at my room was amazing and was used much. great bathroom and i can't find any negative to write here. i would go there again any time.
Great Hotel, Amazing service and location
Great Hotel, High under the roof, amazing view and specious rooms and public areas was great. The pool area and sunbeds was also great. Was right on the beach. lawn area was well maintained. the room had a great balcony that was a pleasure to use. Would recommend this Hotel highly. would love going back to this hotel.
The room with see view is really great. I’d recommend it to my friends
Unique hotel outside of Mombasa
There are a lot of choices in Nyali (location of hotel) but this is the second time I returned to Sun Africa. This is a boutique hotel with tons of character. The rooms are impressive and unique. Staff is very friendly and the hotel is clean. So whether you are on business or vacation--this hotel is an excellent choice.
great and warm service
Sun Africa hotel is home far away from home, with great and warm service from the waiters, house keeping, chef and everyone else. It offers privacy and great breathtaking views of the ocean. It offered more than our expectations, we recommend it highly.

Can only comment on the accommodations as I didn't use any of the other facilities. Spent one night. Very clean. Great room, really great bathroom. Perhaps air conditioner could be sized a little larger considering size of the room, but still functional.
Nice hotel, needs some help though
The hotel used to be apartments and the owners are slowly making adjustments, however when we stayed we recommended the following to make our stay a little more enjoyable. Hooks for the bathroom where you can hang your clothes when showering, better door locks (not safe if there was a fire and you needed to get out quickly). The garden needs a major upgrade with a path going to the sea. Flies are a nuisance in the dining area, some mechanism likes fans would help to disperse. Plus note the staff are really nice and they tried very hard to please.
Great hotel by the ocean
A lovely hotel to stay at. We had beautiful views from our room and the room was spacious. Meals were included however they lacked variety..As much as we like spinach.. we don't necessarily want to eat it everyday 2 times a day..The waiters also needed a bit more training as they often forgot what we ordered. Overall however, we had a pleasant stay. Staff were friendly and location was excellent.
Excellent beach front location
Spacious Hotel rooms Some parts of the Hotel need attention & refurbishment Overall value for money
Remarkable historic building with large rooms and spacious cool lounges, balconies and interior in Moroccan riad style. Staff were delightful (thank you Lilian for arranging so much our trip!), food delicious (thank you chef Bukari!) including breakfasts and dinners overlooking the beach and ocean. Amazing location with nice pool and in the right area for enjoying the ocean while exploring Mombasa. Unfortunately, however, the owners have neglected the building has been very neglected with the lovely fountains without water, everything dusty, towels with holes, etc. Lack of cleanliness / clearing food causes flies in the dining area. It's a real shame because this is a gem of a place. The owners need to give it the love that their staff do.
