I’ve never been to Budapest before, but this hotel is exactly the type of style I imagined. Some true Hungarian style, rather than many of the other plain, commercialized hotels.
Great area, good sized rooms
Good value for money hotel in a great area of the city. Traditional style hotel, but don’t let this put you off as the rooms are very big and clean.
Poor property condition, old towels and old room
Great location- amazing staff and massage. Room was comfortable and clean however smelled like cigarette. I think hotel needs to wash carpet and have a very strict no smoking policy. Place needs updates but it was fitting for my one night stay. Great staff
Not good for Winter
The room they allocated is in the top floor and the Warmer/Heater/AC was not working. The cool wind just above the bed from the window was directly hitting your face is enough to make you sick. When I told the hotel staff they tried to fix but they could not. In return asked us to take extra blanket, if needed. We found available rooms in online sites and when we requested to change the room they declined our request saying rooms not available.
Stunning Budapest
Good Value.
Great little hotel!
Great little hotel, our second time staying as a couple while in Budapest. Its perfectly located for everything you will want to visit, great bars nearby and tram transport links to Buda are just around the corner, but its definitely a walkable distance too. Reception are polite and friendly and are always happy to help. Shower is powerful, no issues with water pressure, rooms are big and comfortable. We'll be back!
Good location, charming hotel and helpful staff
The hotel is really nice and charming. The staff was friendly and very informative and helpful. We had a late check in (after midnight) due to the traffic on highways yet it was not a problem here. The room was fine, only tge hair drier could have been replaced, still that was not an issue. Location is very good too.
Charming little place to stay in Budapest in a good location.
Unio is a superb example of how a low budget hotel can give you an excellent accommodation experience. This is happening because the people of the hotel are working with professionalism and passion. You just feel like being home. The location is perfect, very close to all highlights of the city, 5 minutes from the metro Oktogon, 20 minutes from the railway Nyugati but most of all ten minutes from the most happy neighborhood of Budapest full of restaurants, bars, cafes and friendly people. Super breakfast, quiet area. Many thanks!
Medium size hotel.centrally located.room is big.my room at top floor.thats why it is not possible to open window for fresh air.hot water pressure is low at bathroom.breakfast is a liittle expensive.8 euro .
Unique hotel in the center of Budapest with the friendliest staff . All was good: service , room , location and breakfst . Will try to book again on my next visit .
We enjoyed our stay here. It was near to all public transport and some attractions are walkable. There are loads of resto and bars im the area too. Across the hotel is a 24hr shop which was very handy. The staff were super friendly and very accommodating and helpful. The breakfast buffet had a lot of options. To be honest, the owner of the hotel is very lucky to have the staff as they were truly excellent with their job. My only complain is that the beds were uncomfortable. The hotel needs updating especially with their beds and furnitures. But overall we had a great stay here.
Staff were friendly, helpful and informative. room was warm and clean only thing didn't like was toilet had tendecy to run
I can say that the staff at this hotel were friendly and helpful. They kept the room clean. The bed was just a little uncomfortable but still it was kept nice and clean. If I go to Budapest again I would still stay at this hotel.
Very pleasant stay
A very pleasant stay, fabulous breakfast.
It was an accidental discovery when suddenly planned the trip, and it was a very pleasant surprise in a very central location near Oktogon square. It feels like a converted palazzo style hotel, with high ceilings and very spacious decorated rooms. I particularly liked that it was not, as it often happens in other cases, turned into some kind of sterile modern interior with no personality. Buffet breakfast was excellent, room was quiet and staff was extremely helpful, too. Transport links are excellent around the hotel, and some of the major avenues are right near it.
This is no Ritz. I like that is is clean and tucked away in a corner street where you hardly hear any traffic or boisterous crowd. You can sleep soundly here. The staff is pleasant and very helpful. Still cannot figure out their cooling or heating system. You got to ask the staff. It was quite warm the week I was there in October. I tried to turn on the cooling system but all I got was warm air and by the way pretty noisy. I just turned it off and opt for open windows with fresh air. That worked for me. The hotel is conveniently located where you can access transportation, banking, all kinds of food on a very busy street. At the corner across from the hotel is a 24 hr grocery store. It is a great place to stay.
This is a budget hotel and very basic But value for money Well situated for sight seeing Staff are very pleasant
Broken toilet and flush
This place does not worth more than 20 euros a night. No bathrobes Minibar is empty and switched off Toilet seat is broken Toilet flush doesnt work Worst place I stayed at in budapest Even hostels are better Asked for a refund but the hotel ignored my emails!
Great location. Friendly staffs. Clean. Excellent for the money. Good breakfast.
Really nice hotel in a central location. Went with a group and the concierge was exceptionally helpful. Great little base to go explore the city from. Room had a tv and after a long night trying some Hungarian beer we came back and tried to watch some tv before going to bed. It was a very nice touch and normally for this price you would not get a tv in the room. After said night out we put a do not disturb sign on the door. When we opened the door the next morning (more like afternoon) there was a pile of fresh towels on a chair outsife our room, very thoughtful. Wonderful hotel, would recommend
This hotel is a true reflection of the Hungarian architecture, traditional hotel in a great location. Close to oktogon which has links to every part of the city
This place needs renovated. It is old and dingy looking. We were there in June and there air had just broken. We ended up leaving and spoke with the front desk person who said we would not be charged. We were charged for our whole stay they refused to give us our money back. Run from this place.
Deacent accommodation at the good location. Close to the public transportation and restaurants.
The staff was great. All very friendly and helpful. The rooms were old and dated but clean. Breakfast was good value.
it was very very good location is perfect parking next to the hotel for extra fee
Needs a facelift
Staff was accommodating and helpful. The hotel can use a face lift, very old style hotel. Near tram and subway.
Great service and staff went above and beyond to please our needs
The staff was very helpful and pleasant. I felt very welcome there. The room was clean and I slept well. I am happy to recommend the hotel.
Nice place. Excellent breakfasts and the best wifi of my trip.
very efficient welcome - comfortable rooms including a fridge. Recommend without hesitation - some noise from other guests in morning. Location excellent
Very accommodating, an a very traditional atmosphere.
Never stay
The room temperature was very high due to poor working air-conditioner. When complained, we were told to leave windows open wide and use electric fan. We rarely slept during our stay. Strongly advise never to stay at this hotel.
Yes, this hotel is a little run down and needs some updating. However, for the price it is remarkable value. Rooms are spotless, the breakfast is good and the staff couldn't be more charming or helpful. It's also well located. It's in the trendy and interesting Jewish district with lots of Ruin bars and good restaurants nearby. It is a straightforward 25 minute walk to the river with all the tourist attractions, boat rides and bridges to the other side.
Old style city property with large rooms and high ceilings, well maintained and decorated. Staff were friendly and helpfull. Breakfast was adequate.
Does what is says, but don't expect the Ritz. You'll get a decent room in the centre for a decent price. The hotel is a bit dated, but hey, this is the 7th district. Staff was great both on checking-in and even when leaving. I'd stay again for short ones, e.g. 1-2 nights when you'd basically need a room only and nothing super-fancy.
Great location.
Brilliant location. The guy on the desk was very helpful. Good price.
Grand hotel. Breakfast basic but fine. Staff pleasant
In the city
Staff was extremely friendly and nice. Building was old but pretty well kept up. Wonderful breakfast!
Very nice and beautiful
Very nice and beautiful hotel. I like very much because it’s so traditional..... old style . Also, I enjoyed the paintings in the lobby and stairs
Good position
I would like to recommend this hotel as staff and position good but it was 39 degrees and no air conditioning . A fan was supplied but after a very hot day to come back to a very hot room it was not pleasant.
In need of renovation but great staff and location
Reception staff are all so wonderful and friendly. We were put in a tiny room to start with but I told them we had paid for a triple room (for size more than anything) and so we were shown 3 rooms and told to take whichever one we wanted. All 3 rooms were big, old fashioned but very warm!! We chose the one which had a fan and windows however the air con was broken so all 3 nights were stuffy and difficult to sleep in as it was sooooo hot! There was dirt and cobwebs in places and when you let the water out of the bath an awful smell from the drains came up. Also the whole stay the room was never cleaned or towels changed. To be honest this didn’t really bother us as we were there to see Budapest not stay in the hotel, also we hadn’t paid a lot of money! Great location and like I said STAFF WERE AMAZING!!!
Great location
We were there as a group of guys on a stag do so weren't looking for the Ritz! Perfect for what we needed - good location and since most guests were of a similar mind-set, not much risk of upsetting anyone! I can't say I'd rush to stay here with my wife but it was more than adequate for our needs on a stag trip. Thanks to the staff for their pleasant manner and patience as we weren't sober much!!
Not Amazing
This hotel is in a great location and good value for price. The staff at the main desk are friendly and informative and speak good English. However, this hotel could really do with some TLC. Our room was on the top floor and as it was a hot day, we tried to use the aircon, which, much to our disappointment, only spat out more hot air. The room was also dirty, we found rubbish by our bedside tables. The hairdryer in the bathroom spontaneously blew up, the TV did not work, and the bed wasn't too comfortable. The breakfast isn't continental as advertised. The shower also only showered the wall, and drenched every inch of the bathroom if you moved the shower head towards you. If the hotel was renovated I feel like it would be worth 4/5 stars.
Needs a revamp
Room very shabby, peeling paint etc but bed comfortable although sheets did not fit! Breakfast very poor, don't bother when so many nice places locally. Good location though.
Fantastic stay
The hotel was excellet! Room was clean, maids came daily and changed our bed sheets and towels. Staff is very polite, speak English very well and will spend time to provide you all the info you need. All in all, I think we will visit the hotel again.
Good location
We enjoyed our stay there. Good value for money, convenient location, close to historical part of the city, bars, restaurants and shops.
Almost perfect hotel for me
Very friendly, patient, helpful, efficient staff. Very comfortable bed. Good bedside reading lamp. Bathtub with plenty of hot water. Great, central location. The cleaning staff didn't clean all that well but it was a minor drawback considering all the positive aspects. The breakfast wasn't very good. The bread wasn't fresh and the eggs were rubbery and not hot. Coffee was passable.
great location, hotel in need of tlc
No hot water one morning quickly fixed but half hearted apology, wifi a bit iffy, beds a bit creaky all needing an update
Old style hotel good location
Hotel position just tucked away in aside street no noise.old style hotel lots of wood in reception no bar area, rooms large a bit dated, very noise fridge in room which we unplugged at night, very noisely plumbing system and sound travels from other rooms near by ,eventhoe walls are brick.breakfast not for the British lots of cold meats,no real fry up
Disappointing overall
The only good thing about it is the location. It is close to the tram and subway station Oktogon. The room we were staying is Room 208. There is a wifi connection but it never connected in the room. (The wifi range is full but it kept saying incorrect password). It only worked when we are at the lobby. The room smelled like someone had smoked there before. We were suffocating. When asking the staff at the lobby about the issues. He shrugged and said, sorry there is nothing I can do about it. I would have expected at least he would have offered to switch our room. He did nothing. Very disappointing. Adding to our other experience at Budapest. I must say we will never go back to Budapest again.
Worst stay of my Life
I was there with my family for 3 days, and I get to know that air conditioning was not working and they failed to provide even Fan. So I have to open window as room was suffocating, unfortunately window was on the roof as room was on top floor. On my second night it was raining and I have to close window also as water coming in the room. In short this was my worst stay ever.
Good accessabilty to everything. Friendly staff al
The hotel is comfortable, if a little tired. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Very easy access to everything. A good cheap hotel.
Very Good Hotel
This hotel has traditional, good condition furniture. The atmosphere is excellent, cleanness is good. However, the air conditioner doesn't work properly, so that it's hot and humid in the room.
Old hotel
Wifi doesn't work in the room on lobby area. Breakfast not good. No blanket! AC didn't work well. No light on the hallway when you return late at night
Hot breakfast, modern bathroom, good location
Good recently refurbished bathroom with good towels. Main room was acceptable. Hot breakfast with eggs was good. Wifi speed and reliability was poor and should be improved.
Friendly and very helpful. Fantastic location
Had a brilliant holiday! The hotel is in a fantastic location close to the trams and metro which made our journey from the airport very easy even though it is about an hour away. The bars, clubs and restaurants are very close yet the hotel is slightly hidden so is lovely and quiet for a good night sleep. The main trams, number 4 and 6, are just around the corner and will bring you all the way over the bridge to Buda. The staff were so helpful and friendly and spoke fantastic English. Would definitely recommend.
Nice hotel
It's great hotel . I stayed there for 4 night , everything was great as location , room , service . The wifi is slow
Clean and Comfortable Hotel in the City Centre
I had a very enjoyable stay here. Yes, the rooms are a little dated (all part of the fun), but the hotel was spotlessly clean. I stayed in a double room for three nights and I had absolutely no problems: the bed was comfortable, the hotel was quiet in the evening and the staff were all very polite and helpful. The mini bar was very reasonably priced, and for everything else there was a 24-hour shop across the road. The location was great with lots of bars and restaurants nearby. The House of Terror, Heroes Square, and the Opera House were short walks away. If you're used to more corporate hotels, then you might find the hotel a little old fashioned, but I think it's part of the charm, and I'd definitely stay here again.
Nice hotel in good location
It's a nice hotel. Had a comfortable stay here. Close to Jewish quarter and shops.
Super cozy, friendly staff
The wood panelled entrance and breakfast hall was a good hint that this was going to be a cozy and affordable little place in Budapest. It was - breakfast is good and generous, the room was large and our dogs were allowed.
Centrally situated hotel Near to amenities & transport.
Excellent Bargain for travelers to Budapest
I recently stayed at Hotel Unio. Granted it was off season (November), but I could not believe that I could find such a nice hotel in an excellent downtown location for a very low price of $34/night. Most sights were within a mile of the hotel and there was excellent public transportation within two blocks of the hotel. The staff was always very helpful in answering all my questions for directions. They were beyond helpful in helping me check in for my flight online and arranging for the shuttle to the airport. I highly recommend this hotel.
good
good and simple ... just a place to sleep in it the man in the reception is very sharp , i think more staff should work in it and much younger staff is needed
Homely and comfy.
Took a bit to find this one but when we got there the man on the desk was very nice and helpful. Room was nice but reminded my husband of his grandmother's house by the furniture which I liked. Bed was comfortable so as far as I'm concerned that made it a great place. Easy access to main road where there were many restaurants though there is one in the hotel. Also easy to get to a subway station and trams. Only thing was when we checked out we were asked to pay a tax which was not mentioned when we checked in. Might be on the information but I never saw it. Other than that I'd definitely stay here again if I were visiting.
central location with old world charm
Friendly and knowledgeable staff who readily converse in English. Rooms are large. Central ventilation results in shared smoking when another guests lights up in their 'no smoking' room. Staff kindly provided us with a room change which placed us in a truly 'non-smoking' room. Close walking distance to many great restaurants and cafes. Very good accommodation for the price.
Very helpful staff, great location
The hotel was very central, close proximity to everything. The staff were brilliant, very helpful and cheerful. The only downfall to the hotel was the air con didn't go cold, and it was cooler to have the windows open - no big deal.
Super duper
..
Highly recommended.
Comfy rooms, great location, good service.
Near the downtown but not to confortable
The hotel isnt terrible but really need to modernizate the installations
Good hotel close to everything. Staff helpful and nice. Breakfast was very good. Room is old but clean.
close to train station
the hotel is next to the main train station, i was surprised there was no noise. the air condition is a swamp cooler, so it gets stuffy and really does not keep the room cool. i would not stay again just for this reason.
Great hotel and location
We had an excellent 4 night stay, arrived late on a Saturday night to a friendly welcome. There was a slight confusion with our booking (as we booked very last minute and I suspect the Expedia email hadn't been received), but it was sorted quickly. The fact the staff spoke very good English made everything easy as our Hungarian is unfortunately lacking.
Quiet, safe, Boutique hotel near Elizabeth street
All spoke English. Most staff extremely helpful booking excursions, giving directions and calling cabs, some very sarcastic. 3 beds per room, some saggy. Only 1 English speaking TV channel, BBC. Clean but old European décor and furniture. Need longer electric adapter plugs when traveling there, all outlets are recessed 1/2 inch in. Food rather grayish brown in general color, mostly gravies on everything at hotel, they use LOTS of onions in Hungary.
Great staff and service!
Overall good for a stopover night in Budapest, old a bit rundown hotel but well compensated by service from staff, good breakfast buffet. Post in hotels.com advertised a super-discut from 400 euro town to 67. THIS IS NOT A 400 euro hotel at all, but again, a good choice for a short city break.
trip taken in August 2014
Staff not able to communicate in good English. Approximation is by far unreachable. 5 mins or 10 minutes ended up in 20 minutes. Road indication is not clear. Hotel is an old building. Breakfast has no choice. If you wish to explore the folks of Hungarian, this can be the right place. Transport is so so, you can walk to the St. Stephan's cathedral and the bridge that takes about 30 minutes.
Surprisingly Good
Whilst the entrance is a little dim, this hotel was great. Rooms were big, breakfast decent and location very central. There was no AC but the fan and an open window did the job. A little loud from the street on a Friday night but nothing unbearable. Location ideal for tbose wbo want to discover the old city as well as the Jewish quarter -was a 10minute walk. Would stay here again.
Don't waste your money!
Terrible experience!! Unclean, poorly furnished rooms with no air conditioning.
Complete Disappointment...Beware!
My group of six stayed in Hotel Unio after several days in a five-star hotel in Budapest prior to traveling to Moscow. The information provided on hotels.com stated that Hotel Unio was a three-star hotel with air conditioning. In my opinion. The hotel rating is completely inaccurate. In addition, there was absolutely no air conditioning, which resulted in a sleepless night for us. The hotel management continually stated that they "turned the AC system on", but cool air never came. Had out flight not been so early, we would have requested a refund and located alternative accommodations. I would not recommend this hotel at all!
Good hotel in a central location
City Hotel Unio is a good hotel centrally located with good facilities.Perfect to visit the city center by foot.I ve had good time.Thanks.
Cheap convenient hotel for city break
We booked this hotel due to price and location. Was slightly concerned after reading some disappointing reviews, but we found the hotel fine. It is a two minute walk from a main street with bars, restaurants, shops and tram routes, there are also a number of luxury hotels nearby. The decor is dated, but the hotel was always clean throughout. Our room was comfortable and clean, though a little worn. Perfectly suitable for our needs. Our only real gripe with our room was the noisy, ineffecient air conditioning (other than this there is no street noise, and we experienced no disturbance from neighbouring rooms). We found the staff polite and helpful with any of our requests. We would have no hesitation staying at this hotel should we visit Budapest again in the future.
Ideal central location
The room we had was bigger than we expected having a walk in hall seperate bathroom and bedroom with a double and single bed along with tv and mini fridge. The location was ideal being only 100metres away from one of the main arteries of the city. You are within a short stroll of trams, buses and the metro stations yet the hotel is very quiet.
Economical and a good location
The hotel was well located and made a pleasant change from the large chain hotels and had a good price. The breakfast buffet was ample and it was nice to be entertained by the local musician in the evening. The wifi worked well and the staff were pleasant.
our stay was fine. Great location, lovely old solid furniture! BUT, the breakfast(buffet style) was abismal! Never before have I come accross flacid looking chicken wings on a bed of(fried?) rice! We were'nt sure whether they were left over from the night before! The so-called butter was more akin to axle grease & ...well, it was bad!
Decent Budget hotel in a good location
This is a decent budget Hotel in a very good location. Room was basic but very spacious and clean. Staff friendly as well. Breakfast pretty good - nothing flash, but at this price point nothing to complain about. The only criticism I could level at the hotel was that the air conditioning was not up to cooling the rooms in summer. I wasnt too hung up over it though considering what we paid.
great hotel for a couple
Nice hotel for a short stay ; well located close to public transportation
Heatwave & no airconditioning!
Staff generally friendly & helpful as they can be - and in the circumstances, I must commend them for maintaining a positive, helpful attitude! ...but owner apparently doesn't care about maintainance. It was peak of 36-40 degree heatwave & whole hotel was like an oven! Air con takes air from above bathroom ceiling (where all the super-hot water pipes are running) and blows that (hotter than room) air into the room! Breakfast not as extensive or as plentiful as similar hotels.
great little hotel but no air- conditioning.
I loved the location, however be aware that there is no air- conditioning in 4o % of the rooms when it gets really hot outside. I stayed there for 3 nights and I only had air-conditioning the first night. When I called front desk they informed me that because it is so hot outside they can provide air -conditioning for about 35 rooms out of the 55. I was very disappointed.
A recent visit to Budapest- city of culture!
A pleasant little hotel, with very decent breakfast spread in the mornings. A 'Budapest card'- a special promo by the Budapest Tourist office- is essential to be able to travel to & from the city centre and travelling elsewhere all around this lovely city. The Hotel staff are helpful, and there's a very decent 'Money Changer' close by offering decent rates. There is a 'Spar' shop within short a distance too for anything you need at reasonable prices! The nearest underground station on the 'Yellow Line' is Octogon- a 10 minute walk from the hotel. All public transports- undergound, buses, trams etc. are covered by the Budapest Card, so it is really a must if you stay at this hotel. Vorosmarty Terrace (for all Terrace read Square, in Budpest) is where the train takes you and and is the heart of, a not too costly, (for us rich Brits!!?) Pest city centre- Pest- (pronounced pesht) is the latter half of two parts of the city of Budapest. If anyone enjoys walking- this city is bliss. There's a post office virtually opposite the hotel. The staff are able to book various tours and amenities from the hotel. The Management staff- 'Tibo' specially,is particularly knowledgeable and helpful. The hotel is an unassuming looking place, which could probably do with a facelift- but is very good value for money in the amenities it offers- which includes the Wi-Fi Internet facility. I had a wonderful four days in this City of culture, and gourmet food and this reasonably priced comfortable hotel.
Well priced, comfortable hotel
I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Unio. Counter staff were friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable. Buffet breakfast was nice (although different style eggs than just fried would be nice). Breakfast staff need to smile and offer service. Good location. Easy walking to lots of sights. I would stay here again.
Unbearably Hot
Had an attic room. Temperature was 27 degrees outside and in, but was told that air conditioning was not working at this time of year.
Fairytale place
Hallo, we spent some time in this lovely place recently. Hotel is very cute, has great character, with old architecture . It is in the great part of the city. Staff was very helpfull and friendly. And food was fantastic. We have enjoyed it greatly.
Great folks, hot room
We had a big room (triple), so space was good. Climate control was an issue, and one of the blinds was broken -- happened to be the one that the hotel line shone through. Desk folks were AWESOME, though, so that helped the experience. Food was OK, but FREE for breakfast.
Staff were great - very helpful
Staff were great - very helpful and friendly. Would stay there again.
交通の便がよい。WiFiも十分。 徒歩数秒のところにランドリーがあるのも個人的にはありがたかった。
Very cosy hotel, very central only 50 meters from a mainstreeet, a lot of restaurant and bars in neirborhood, bud silent in the hotels street
Sentralt
Koselig hotell, i en forholdsvis stille sidegate til en livlig hovedgate 100 m unna, enkelt og greit, typisk ungarsk stil, hyggelig betjening og masse offentlig kommunikasjon like i nærheten
Helt okej
Ligger centralt och rummet var trevligt. Trevlig personal och inga bekymmer uppstod.

Friendly staff and the hotel is in a good location.
