Average kind of place and decent for the price. Has an 80s building kind of vibe. Excellent proximity to the hot spot areas on Fillmore , Union and Chestnut street corridors.
Great place. Very friendly and helpful staff
The location was wonderful. We could walk or catch a bus to wherever we wanted to go in the SF area. Union and Chestnut shopping and dining streets were both within a couple of blocks with a great selection of dining, bars, and shops - including a good bookstore and old fashion movie theater. We could walk to the Marina area, Presidio or Ft. Mason. We would stay here again.
Ok experience
Everything was kind of out of date and felt a little sub par… I asked the front desk if they have water available and they said no, but they have vending machines, the one on my floor didn’t have any bottled water. They didn’t have a mini fridge or microwave in the rooms. One benefit was the underground locked parking available. It’s fine if you just need a place to sleep and not spend much time!
I liked the location, and parking. I didn't like that it was super noisy on Saturday night. Many night clubs in the area and music was super loud. We could not sleep until club closed after 2:00 a.m.
very clean and nice staff safe parking
The room smelled musty and it was damp. The carpet felt damp. The comforter was actually wet. All our clothes felt damp after being in the room.
Excellent location. Straightforward check in and out. Building is dated but that’s part of its charm!
Good service 👍 prompt attention
the hotel room was spacious and clean. Parking was easy. The air conditioner was very loud. Also the street noise was extremely loud, especially when the bars let out on Saturday night.
Convenient, Safe, Friendly
I found the Chelsea Inn fit my needs perfectly. It was what I expected. Wilson at the front desk was super friendly. He and I are both SF native kids so there was an instant bond. Parking is secure in the lot outside the lobby or in the card key operated underground garage. Safe hotel. Rooms & bathrooms are spacious with older Early American style furniture, comfortable beds. Bedding and towel linens were clean. 3rd floor has nice views. Rooms have safe deposit boxes. Always a plus! A mini fridge and microwave would have been a nice touch, often found in these Lombard Street area hotels. You could see in the TV Armoire that space was there to accommodate them at one time. I think maybe some rooms have them? My 3rd floor room faced Fillmore, great views!! Traffic noise was not an issue... but on a Fri or Sat night, there's a super popular nightclub across the street called Jaxson's. It's packed with people pouring out onto the sidewalks, so if outside noise bothers you, the Fillmore street facing rooms on a Fri or Sat night might not be for you. It didn't bother me. The hotel itself is very quiet and convenient and efficient. Good value. I'd stay here agin. Only thing that bothered me... housekeeping piles up dirty linens, garbage and dishes just outside the elevators on the room floors. It's unsanitary and smells. Also unnecessary because housekeeping closets are steps away. Perhaps they need dirty linen bins? Fixable! Exterior halls could be cleaner. I'd stay here again!
Exellent area. Lots of good restaurants nearby. Room was very clean
2nd time staying here. I would stay again but only if guaranteed a room that does not face Lombard. We were disrupted from 2-4am by a motorcycle party across the street at the bar. the first time we stayed our room faced Fillmore and it was still noisy with the bar across that street but not as bad. Will probably not stay there again, unless you are going to party all night.
Good location, free safe parking.
It’s dated needs a remodel in the bathroom. Coventry Inn is much better.
We love to stay here its close to everything and its clean.
Easy access to points of interest
It was good we love to stay at the Chelsea Inn when we go to San Francisco for medical appointments. This time we also celebrated my husband’s birthday early with a visit to Baker Beach and then dinner on Fisherman’s Wharf. I love the fact that there is secure parking.
The seize of the room was spacious for SF.
Underground gated parking was much appreciated. Staff were very helpful!
Will stay again.
This is a small chain of 5-6 hotels in SF. Great location. Walkable neighborhoods. Easy to park and forget driving while in City.
Excellent hotel in good location. Free parking
Excellent hotel in convenient location.
Excellent
Clean, comfortable, modern room. Ask for upper floor to minimize noise from late-night luggage carts. Parking secure and excellent, and FREE. Now, my preferred location to stay in S.F.
Consistency. Always great.
Good value stay
Good location, clean and functional room
It was a short, one night stay, but the Chelsea Inn was a great stay. The power went out the morning that we left, but those things happen and I have no complaints. Clean rooms, awesome walkable area around the property and great stay!
Very nice man to check us in
Overall, it's good bang for the buck. Old but kept well. Only issue, my shower drain was slow to drain, needed a snake down it. Great location. Just make sure and ask for a room away from busy road that runs in front.
Excellent location for being close to Golden gate park
Happened to stay during Santa Con so it was just CRAZY outside. Super fun though! Did have ants in the bathroom but everything was pretty clean other than that!
Good location, walking distance to GG Bridge and Fisherman’s Wharf, free indoor parking, clean, comfortable. The bar next door had some noise late into the night, not the hotel’s fault. Safe location. Mel’s Drive-in down the street had excellent food.
No refrigerator and noisy heater.
Charming, Comfortable, and FREE secure parking
Loved the comfort of free gated underground parking garage with stay as well as the security of only having access to garage and elevator to rooms by room key. The bathroom was larger than expected and the room was very cute with the windows. Beds were very comfortable and loaded with pillows. Can add a refrigerator to your room for $5, so highly recommend! The only down side was the noise from the nightlife right next door, but as we were staying for a festival it didn’t disturb our sleep. Will definitely keep this in mind for future stays near Cow Hollow.
Walking is available for excellent dining and shopping
The toilet was out of order. The hotel management ignored my complaints. At checkout, I was refused to get the receipt. The worst hotel I have ever stayed.
I was amazed to find this gem for such a low price. Our room had a fabulous view of the Golden Gate Bridge, and the staff was very helpful and polite. The street design is a little counter-intuitive for Uber drivers to find the place and designate a pickup spot, but that's certainly not the motel's fault. As others have mentioned, the weekend night noise is a bit disruptive, but it's not horrible.
Confident location and inn to stay in. Room was quite clean. Bathroom was clean and well prepped. Could take a bath if you wanted. Outside is pretty noisy and can keep you up if you’re not prepared.
Great location. Little noisy area at night but safe and convenient.
Location
Dated but clean. A little bit more expensive than I liked.
The Chelsea Inn people are very helpful and friendly. The service is excellent. Saturday night was noisy but otherwise a very good stay.
Saturday night there was loud music from a nearby business until 2:30am. The police would not respond to this issue. Could not sleep. Sunday and monday nights no issues.
Good value and location.
Nice place Nice area Price reasonable No complains
Lovely hotel with free secure parking. In a safe area with easy walking access to coffee shops and restaurants.
The location is great and it met all of our needs. It’s not the most modern hotel but we prefer to stay there because it’s perfect for us!
Nice place in great neighborhood. Many restaurants in close wlaking distance. Underground locked parking for security. I paln to leave car in garage and UBER around town.
Nice stay but they don’t care about improving
It was good and could have been better if 1) there wasn’t a cot in the room because we did not request it, 2) the safe worked the entire time and not only once and 4) the shower gel and other items in shower weren’t almost empty. I told someone at front desk thinking they would appreciate knowing for the next guests and seemed like they could care less by staying safe probably needed batteries and we should have called for more. No, good service means you take care of those things like refilling shower gel up front.
The place was nice, clean and the employees were all very nice.
Good Clean and comfortable.
Stayed. Here for one Saturday night, but it was nice and quite. Room was clean and it included secure parking.
Very nice people at the front desk always greeting you with a smile
Location is excellent, few short blocks to Fort Mason. Lots of restaurants nearby, no restaurants in the hotel though. Hotel is of the budget variety, with very basic amenities, no car charging, no refrigerator in the rooms. On the plus side, Free self parking, and usable internet. Rooms are spacious but the view is generally not very nice (garbage on the ground in the alleyway, for example).
Back side room quiet. Everything just OK, nothing special.
They did keep my suit case safe although didn’t call me… Bathroom wasn’t too clean in the shower wall.
It's in a great location.
This hotel was one of our favorites out of six different hotels we stayed at overall in CA. Big plus is the free parking both under the building, and or ground level across from where you check in. A special thank you to a hotel clerk named Jasper. Super nice guy, a big asset to this property I feel. Our room was rather large, very clean, with comfortable beds. Only negative I'd say on this property , and I've seen it in other reviews but didn't believe it ,our room directly faced a rather loud bar called Jax on. You can hear rather loud music till about 2:30 am. That said, we still managed to get to sleep overall, but if you are booking this place ,see if you can ask for a room NOT across from that bar. Saturday night was when the bar was a big annoyance, Sunday night seemed all ok after 8-9pm bar closed . Still and all as to GREAT location, price, cleanliness, self parking I'd highly recommend Chelsea ..maybe pack some ear plugs, haha though they didn't help...
Great location and the staff, especially Lee, we’re so incredibly helpful with making sure my sister and I had a great trip in San Francisco.
Sleepless in Bay area
The street noise gets loud at night, so bring ear plugs.
Good location
Price is right with parking in San Francisco!
I like to style the rooms I did not like the amenities
Convenient location with lots of shops and restaurants & transportation. Very comfortable room. On-site parking. Basic, simple breakfast would have been nice.
Was looking forward to it - but needed water!
Hotel was without water for hours on day of check-in, did not bother telling ppl in advance, and offered no firm estimate of when water would be restored. Mgr did authorize refund. However the Hotels.Com & hotel policies may prevent seeing this for upto 14 days.
Nice Place to Stay
Convenient location near many good restaurants. Friendly and professional staff at front desk. Provided locked storage for our touring road bikes in laundry. Furnishings and cleanliness of rooms were very good. Nice, quality accommodations in SF. Would be happy to stay here again.
Would stay here again. Convenient location, clean room, and reasonably priced.
Great place to stay in SF.
Excellent neighborhood, excellent price, very friendly staff
Great place to stay
Generally very good for the price. Good room, comfortable. Parking is very useful, probably that’s a big reason to stay here. Parking is not really restricted in access from the exterior, but I didn’t see unknown individuals around. The main con is that you could sense vibration and noise. If someone walked or moved in the rooms nearby, you could hear it and feel it. Since the area is generally noisy at times when people go out, it kinda didn’t make a huge difference, just be aware of it before booking. Even with that I think it’s a good place to stay.
Good location
Perfect weather and a nice cozy place to stay. We love the location and the convenience. Stayed here many times before and we do it again.
I will leave a summary of my stay at this hotel at the very bottom of this review, if you’d like to skip ahead. Everything I will speak about will be in the context of how affordable this hotel is, so you won’t get any pools or luxury items, obviously, but everything in the review is based on the price point of the hotel. Meaning, when you read this, please understand some nitpicking is a little thrown away due to the affordability of this stay. Pros: 1. Parking. parking is supremely limited around the area & being able to leave and come back home to a spot available for you is awesome. 2. Area This is Filmore. And there is quite a nightlife here. Bars and clubs within walking distance & not to mention coffee shops, eateries, and even a grocery store within walking distance… 3. Big Bus Tour Stop #13 and oh so worth it. DO THE BUS TOUR. 4. Cute and comfy Nothing luxurious but definitely feels homey. Cons: 1. No fridge. Well there is for $5 a day. 2. Slightly outdated bathroom, the shower was a little dilapidated. 3. Room service every 3 days… this is due to Covid, I believe. Overall this place is great, I can not wait to come back and stay here for parking alone (other cheaper hotels charge like $30 a day) Jasper is friendly as heck! Definitely worth it
Good location. Nice bed/ The lack of the fridge really was pretty weak/.
Great place.
Great location. This is the type of place you stay at if you need a clean and convenient place to rest. The staff is super friendly, great parking space (and it's free!), the rooms are clean and it has everything you could need for the night. 10/10 would stay there again
Need new beds and pillows. Mattress is sinking in the middle. Noticed a few ants in the room.
It was nice for the price.
Very clean, friendly staff
Everything was terrible. I went to a room and there were a lot of ants. So i asked to changed the room. And i moved and it was same.
Close to transportation, walking distance to fun areas, free parking
Parking and location was great, front desk person is not nice… the bathroom had a bad smell but overall it was a nice stay!
San Francisco Birthday Trip
I was happy to have booked a hotel on Lombard based on its location to everything but the only downside was the loud noise from young people partying on Fillmore Street right across the street from our room. It was like that Friday and Saturday night. We weren’t able to sleep til they closed down at 2:00 am. Very disappointing!
easy to access. parking is a huge plus. friendly staff. Overall great place to stay!
There was ants in my bed and nightstand. Had to cancel my reservation. The manager was not helpful or accommodating at all.
Great location for walking to restaurants and stores. The room is larger than other hotels that I have stayed at. Free parking is a real plus. It’s become my go to place when I visit San Francisco.
Watch out for Ants!
room was ok, furniture starting to show it's age, we had ants in the bathroom. I mentioned it to clerk at check out & his response was due to the rain? We were there Thursday - Sunday, it only started raining Saturday night. Showed no concern about the ants, they knew about the ants due to may ant traps in bathroom & bedroom.
Clean, comfy and cheap! I love it, it’s in a good area. I will book with them again 😃😃😃
Very cute hotel with friendly staff. Located in a great area for convenience to Fisherman's Wharf. The bathroom had ants, but only a few and none in the bedroom area. The staff were great with parking cars when the garage was full so we never had an issue with having to leave the car on the street. Overall, we loved this hotel and would def stay again.
Close to all the attractions, all the bars and clubs are really around the hotel
Good location
Room very clean and comfortable; very easy check-in and check-out. Hotel very conveniently located -- walking distance (long walk but not bad) to Golden Gate, Ghiradelli Square, Embarcadero, Piers.
My car was vandalized in their parking garage.
Great location.
Excellent location! Lots of restraurants near by and near your tour bus stop.
Clean and nice
Easy walking distance to food & beach areas
Great location in SF and not too pricey
We went to SF for a wedding. This hotel is near the Presidio. Great location, room was a good size, clean, easy to find, bed was comfortable. It is near lots of restaurants. It's a no frills clean place. It was a nice place to stay at a reasonable price.
Good for the price but very noisy area.
PROS-Nice and convenient. On-site parking. CONS-Heater didn’t work and it was too late to have it fixed. They didn't offer to move me to another room. Tub was dirty with a ring around it. The hotel is on a very busy street so there was noisy traffic all night.
Historic building in beautiful neighborhood. Many coffee shops, stores , restaurants, and attractions within walking distance. Parking is included.
Great business trip hotel
The room was spotless and the bed was very comfortable. Lots of nice towels and good coffee. The parking is a huge plus, and i felt very safe here.
Overall decent for the price
The room was pristine as far as cleanliness and had all of the amenities that were promised including a closet, flat screen TV, ironing board, tea/coffee and a desk. It was much more spacious than I was expecting. I just have a couple of small complaints. One is the noise level from the nightlife on the street. The other is that I did notice a few ants in the bed and on the bathroom sink.
I always enjoy staying at the Chelsea whenever I'm in SF. Convenient, safe location to so many restaurants, very gracious and accomodating staff, comfortable beds, well-appointed rooms, and reasonable room rates. This place checks all the boxes for me! Many thanks!
Staff is not so friendly and there is a lot of hairs in bathtub
Great Hotel. Noisy Bar across street
I love the location of this hotel and the hotwl otswlc but if you get a room that faces Fillmore, there is a bar right across the street and you wont get any sleep until 2am. So freaking noisy!!!!
