We loved our stay and the fabulous dinner in the restaurant. Huge thanks to the staff
Unbelievable property! Really so fabulous and relaxing. The staff were gracious and attentive. The grounds are amazing and the food was divine. Bike rental from the property was easy to make excursions to neighboring towns. A very romantic property.....highly recommended.
A recently restored castle on the beaujolais route. 5 star throughout, sophisticated but not stuffy, friendly yet prodessional & respectful. Tasty delicate delicious food cooked and served to perfection. And the views with scent of lavender ---wow!! This is Eden!
Very beautiful!!! Great place to stay!
Staff were very helpful and friendly, views and food/drink just amazing. Can’t wait to come back.
Unique and beautifully appointed 13th century chateau. Service was spotty because of end of season w limited staff. Otherwise, just beautiful! General Manager was an excellent host.
Slice of history
Beautiful hotel in stunning setting. As a family of four (including 2 teens) we all rated it and it felt it was a privilege to stay. It was like staying in a slice of history. Only negative - no shower but 800 years ago I imagine this was less of a concern frankly.
One of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed, both the hotel and location are stunning and the room was fantastic. I would highly recommend dinner at 1217, use of the spa (including treatments), and a wander around the village and the grounds. We also greatly enjoyed a recommended visit to Domaine des Voûtes Dorées winery. Camille was fantastic. The only slight fly in the ointment was an issue with the booking. However the staff and management could not have been more helpful, friendly and professional, and it was resolved to our complete satisfaction. I would definitely visit again.
Restaurants had very poor food selection
Luxury experience in one of the worlds oldest castles. A romantic getaway for couples who like quiet and tranquility. We enjoyed a Michelin star meal as well. I’ll be coming back here again.
The property was wonderful. Really loved our stay
Beautiful historic hotel
Incredible hotel
Historical luxury
Superb hotel. Huge room. This is a destination hotel and exudes history combined with luxury. Unfortunately restaurant was not open due to lack of staff. Instead we were offered cold plates which were of great quality and eaten on the terrace overlooking a stunning valley. Staff were very efficient, helpful, friendly and very professional. Truly a memorable stay.
Wonderful.

Lovely chateau
Great hotel, delicious food (very expensive but Michelin star so expected), room was fantastic. Swimming pool could do with a renovation as seemed a bit dirty and not really the type of place you’d want to swim but overall was a lovely experience.
Fabulous French Fantasy
Absolutely stunning property (800 year old castle) and INCREDIBLE staff! The team go out of their way to make your visit special. We were celebrating a birthday and as the hotel was fairly empty the night we stayed, they upgraded us to a magical suite covered in 18th century frescoes. The room was jaw dropping and had a beautiful view of the French countryside. Dinner was delicious and inventive... and we were able to sample a few Beaujolais wines, to include a sparkling red! Our son loved swimming in the pool. I cannot recommend this hotel enough... it is one of those places that makes you feel lucky and grateful to have the privilege of staying there.
Lovely castle in the middle of Beaujolais
This was a beautiful getaway in the heart of Beaujolais, Beaujolais, surrounded by beautiful grounds and rolling hills lined with vines. The staff we extremely friendly and tried to be as helpful as possible. Our room was large and we felt we were transported back in time, with arrow slits in our separate living room and a throne toilet. Dinner, although no longer the same Michelin menu and the same choices for lunch, was an extremely good attempt to regain their star. The sommelier in particular was very friendly and knowledgeable. The only downside was that despite being in the middle of Beaujolais, there were not many options for doing vineyard tours, especially over a weekend or if you are only in a two. And if you were staying for more than a couple of nights, the dining options were very limited. We were recommended a very good restaurant in a nearby village less than 10 mins drive away, but cost us a EUR50 taxi. And by 10pm, no taxi companies were picking up the phone to take us back. The waitress had to drive us. Difficult to get around if you're planning on sampling wines and therefore not driving. Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay, but baffled by the lack of options if you were not driving (particularly when in the wine region!)
Sleeping in History
This was our second time staying in this remarkable piece of history. 800+ years to be exact!! It is a magical place with excellent service and food. It is a pleasure to be a part of this spectacular hotel.
Everything about our stay was super - the surroundings, our room (suite!), the restaurant & food, the service & facilities. It was a very relaxing & enjoyable experience.
Disappointing
This is my second stay at this hotel, and I must say is in desperate need of a refurbishment-no AC in main building, old and dated furnishing. The surroundings are spectacular. But will not recommend it until they put some money on the rooms.
This property is a dream with its views and the chateau has such rich history it’s breathtaking .. also the spa was fantastic.. I highly recommend this place
From the minute you arrive here, it's amazing! They treat you like real VIPs. Very personalized service. The castle is gorgeous and the surrounding area offers a lot. You could easily spend a week here without leaving the castle walls. The grounds are beautiful. So much to see and do. It is located in a tiny old town that is totally walkable. You will need a car to get here but that's great because there are many tiny towns to explore, including Perouge which is a medieval town still being used.
The grounds and splendor of the property is outstanding. The worst bed I've ever slept on in my life, no air conditioning were thankful it wasn't summer.
If you have not stayed in a castle, this is the one. Everything about it is first class! So memorable
The setting is a medieval castle about 35 minutes from Lyon. It’s absolutely incredible, visually. They manage to have hot showers, internet, and perfect electricity in this stone building that is cebpnturies old. The restaurant is fine dining. The staff are so friendly and helpful. This is not to be missed in this part of France.
A MOST special chateau
One of the most beautiful places I've ever stayed in. The views are breathtaking and the hotel is beautiful. The room is very comfortable and I'd suggest this hotel to anyone. It's very special. The staff is friendly and very helpful.
Live like royalty
Several years ago, we stumbled upon the Chateau de Bagnols and put it on our hotel bucket list. So glad we got a chance to spend three days literally living like royalty in a massive chateau suite overlooking the courtyard. From the Michelin starred restaurant to the gigantic marble bathtub to the luxurious spa to the lush grounds to the wonderful personalized service that reception supplied - no detail was overlooked. We felt cosseted and cared for.
Drinks in the dark
Lovely hotel and food was great. The rooms were very impressive and the restaurant superb. The only down side was we had to wait an hour to serviced drinks on the terrace after checking at reception if this was an option which was confirmed, then repeated requests from the staff for drinks. Needless to say a drink on the terrace and watching the sun go down didn’t happen as it was dark when we finally got our drinks. Most disappointing way to end a day.
Beautiful hotel in a magnificent setting. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Truly a wonderful experience!
Fantastically renovated medieval chateau in the foothills surrounding Lyon. Great kitchen with a Michelin 1 star chef. I would gladly stay here again.
great experience - fine dining and excellent service
nice place
nice hotel but my nice and big room had windows in the atrium where the restaurant was and I am claustrophobic and the smell was not that of fresh air. I felt like in a gold cage... Hard to take a shower in the bathtub in the middle of the bathroom, no place for the soap, no curtain
Lady Hamilton
Lady Hamilton bathroom was being restored and felt like it was losing its original image. Glossy modern tiles. Library room replaced with beds. Will book the room inside the main building next time
Wonderful Stay
Beautiful castle with superb restaurant. Friendly front desk staff.
Beautiful Experience in Beaujolais.
I have stayed at multiple other Chateau & Relais properties. This is one of my absolute favorites. The castle is stunningly beautiful, as it has undergone an impeccable restoration, architecturally correct but with all the modern conveniences added. The rooms are beautiful, spacious, and luxurious. The staff is attentive, sophisticated, and friendly but without pretense. I would highly recommend staying here!!
Beautiful château with Michelin starred restaurant
Wonderful room and ambience. Would avoid the breakfast which is just average and ridiculously overpriced
Great getaway
Absolutely beautiful Chateau. With fantastic staff they we all so accommodating. I little hard to find on the GPS but we'll worth it for a relaxing getaway.
Live through history.. 800 years old castle!
You cannot miss this experience, stay in this chateau and live through 800 years of history. Enjoy the French reef and greenery views around.
Extraordinary, grand, beautiful!
Gorgeous hotel, unfortunately very noisy room
The hotel is beautifully restored and absolutely magnificent. Unfortunately the continuous noise in the room makes it hard for me to rate my experience higher. The room noise was an all night continuous loop of very low bass noise followed by sizzling sound. The rest of my family who stayed in other room found their room very comfortable so the issue may be specific to one room only.
Beautiful hotel
Absolutely at beautiful location and beautiful hotel. Restaurant is also wonderful.
A unique and exclusive castle hotel!
This castle offers the perfect experience in Beaujolais. The room was impeccable, and the setting around the chateau makes it a unique destination for a relaxing trip in a combination with wine tasting and gourmet dining in the beautiful region.
Absolutely Amazing!!!
We were in complete awe. It is a real castle. It is perfect in every way. We stayed in March but we would like to come back in the spring or summer to see the cherry blossoms and ripe vines. We spent hours exploring the castle and found unique rooms around every corner. Food was incredible. Huge blocs of foie gras. Breakfast in the room was wonderful. Best croissants we've had in France. Room was to die for. High canopy bed. Fabulous views from every window. We stayed in the Marie Claude room. It's actually 3 rooms. The bathroom is as big as a normal hotel bedroom. I would highly recommend to any traveler no matter how discerning their taste. We will definitely be back! Worth every penny.
Absolutely fabulous
Great we had a delux room which was magnificent and large just did not have a shower, We moved to a chai suite with great shower and very modern first class furnishings in a period building.
Luxurious rural chateau experience
For those of us who live in timber houses in the sub tropics, it was the thrill of a lifetime to sleep in a master bedroom in a French Chateau with a fire and snow falling. Do upgrade yourself to the room with the fireplace if it is available. Worth saving for or paying off! The old lady has been brought into the 21st century as far as mod cons are concerned, but still retains her old world charm and authenticity. Loved the hot indoor pool and spa, but the gravel walkways as well.. The food was fabulous but dear. Service was perfect. We had no hot water and two men came in uniforms and tool bags within 5 minutes, tore the place apart and fixed it on the spot. We ran out of fire wood and a trolley load was there is jiff. When you leave, drive around the hills for a while to get the true picture of where you are in amongst small farms and villages.
excellent hotel!
Great hotel, great service, perfect location. couldn't ask for more.
WOW
Gorgeous Chateau and the best staff! Very polite, helpful, and super friendly! The rooms are beautiful as well! Highly recommended!
Perfect - we will be back
Had an lovely overnight stay and will most certainly go back. Beautiful place, outstanding grounds and views. Very welcoming and the staff obviously very proud to work there. We chose an older style bedroom, the attention to detail amazing. Have your camera ready as you will need it. Can't wait until next time,

A rustic luxe property with superb service in grand European style. The grounds are beautiful and the spa is fabulous. The chef’s menu choices in the restaurant are masterfully prepared and served with grace and elegance along with a lovely selection of wines. This is a place to lose yourself in decadent pampering and peace. Thank you, Château de Bagnols, for a delightful experience.
