Super clean and very helpful staff - the property is in a great area of the Marais and walkable to ANYTHING you want
We spent 7 days here over the reopening week of Notre Dame and would definitely be our return hotel. Hotel is located on a typical old narrow European back street between 2 major thoroughfares, so it is quiet, but less than a minute walk to bus, subway, cafe, restaurants, grocery store, everything you could want. We always felt safe in this area. Hotel is what I would call a boutique hotel in North America and that is part of its French charm. Don’t expect huge rooms ( we did select the smallest room for the price as we spent little time in the room itself). Hotel is in nice condition, linen was white and crisp, bed was comfortable, daily towels higher quality. Front staff were always pleasant and helpful and spoke English and housekeeping did an excellent job on our room. There is a breakfast available but we didn’t use it as there are so many bakeries and cafes just around the corner that we chose to go there every morning for the great French baking. There was some sort of sauna or steam room at the hotel that looked interesting, but we were too busy being tourists and never checked it out. Price seem to be comparable to other hotels, not the cheapest, but not extravagant. This is the kind of hotel we look for when traveling
Can’t wait to return!
The people at the front desk were so nice and my room was absolutely wonderful!
Great hotel, lovely and clean, plus the staff were very accommodating. Location is fantastic too.
Staff was great
Great place but the TV did not work. If you speak English, it was difficult because you could not get any English channels. If you don’t care about that, it’s a great place.
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
While the location is good and the decor is great, we stayed for 5 nights in August (for the Olympics) and DID NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING for the entire visit. The first night we were told is would it would be fixed the next day. The following night we were told that the manager couldn't be called because it was her day off(!) and were given a fan. The remaining 3 nights we were told there was nothing they could do. We asked to change rooms (there were other rooms available when we looked online), but were offered no assistance and wouldn't refund us for the stay. As it was nearly 100 degrees during the day, it was obviously miserable at night. The spa did not work while we were there as well and the housekeeping left their cart in the hall outside our door the entire time. The total lack of customer support and rude management made this a terrible experience and I wouldn't recommend a stay here.
Loved it and would return
I stayed in the junior suite on the top for floor 3 days, two nights with my partner. I found the check in could have been friendlier, but the room is extremely charming and roomy (Paris standards) for a couple. It was very quiet and cozy, with the sloped roof and beams that are very Parisian style, just be mindful if you are over 6ft tall. I liked the room a lot, the only downside is there is not a shower, its rather a bathtub with a detached showerhead, under a sloped roof so not possible to stand up, and you have to hold the showerhead at all times. Aside from that, we really enjoyed staying there, the location is totally perfect, so many cute shops and cafes around. We didnt try the breakfast so cant comment on that. Overall, I would return again for sure and would take the junior suite again. The price is right for what you get also.
Room needed brighter lighting. Staff very helpful. Good location. Comfortable and attractive room.breakfast could have been better for 22 Euros.
Quiet, comfortable, secure and clean on a quiet side street. Staff was exceptional. Everyone was helpful and friendly and joy to be around. One of the few hotels in this price range with a decent sized room. Special thanks to front desk man Mark.
The location is excellent and great for exploring Le Marais area. The metro is only 350m away and is Line 1 which links to many Paris attractions. The design of the hotel is nice and we were in room 15 on the first floor which faces the street - lively during the day and quiet at night. There were a few maintenance issues with the room which were promptly addressed by management when brought to their attention.
Very clean , good location to all nice restaurants and shopping. Friendly staff It will be a second home whenever I go back there.
Over Promised and Under delivered.
While the hotel itself was clean and the front desk staff friendly and polite, the hotel itself was 3 stars at best. the rooms are very small and I understand that is typical for European hotels but I thought this one extra small. I was overcharged by about 5 to 6 times the regular on hotels.com because of the Olympics ( hotels .com should have made mention of this in their listing). Amenities were bare minimum shampoo and soap period. Air conditioner was out for 3 of our 5 day trip. and they still use old fashion room keys that you need to turn into the front desk before you leave.
great hotel, perfect location
perfect stay, great location and very friendly staff. room was small but clean, lovely bathroom. only minor things to improve would be a shower head fitting attached to the wall (as in my room it was handheld) and for the air conditioning to have a cooler setting (although I was there during a heatwave! I'm sure for normal Paris temperatures the current set up is fine).
Beautiful boutique hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Very convenient location in the Marais. Easy walking distance to Metro and the sites, as well as shops and restaurants. For breakfast, go by Miss Manon at the end of the block - this bakery supplies the local hotels with breakfast goodies. Chocolate lovers, don’t miss Trois Chocolat just down the street, and Mao Dumpling House about a 15 min walk away.
Nice old building that has a small bar with breakfast in the morning, a lot of hotels here do not offer that
Lovely hotel in an excellent location. Staff was friendly and helpful. The room was attractive with great lighting (reading light, etc.). Could have really used a drawer or two - there were none.
Very clean and comfortable. Loved the location in the Marais
Worst hotel I ever stayed. Stay away. No a 4 star
Extremely disappointed. About this hotel. It is not a 4 star hotel. The quality of the rooms are run down. Air con was not available. They argue that they will turn it on in a month because of I think reducing costs. If that is the case then don’t advertise full rates of 300 plus per night if you don’t have all amenities. Outrageous. Also the shower system is weird so you need to hold the handle to be able to take a proper shower. Also there was no toilet paper and I have to ask. There are just so many things that went wrong that you don’t expect a 4 star hotel to have. Also my room was dusty like clearly haven’t been cleaned in a while. Also they seemed more concerned about damages to the room that actually maintaining good quality. Basically worst hotel I ever stay. Stay away from this one if you value a good stay.
Staff was extremely helpful. Room was comfotable.
Great small boutique hotel in Paris. Excellent location with an exceptional friendly and helpful staff.
Lovely little boutique hotel in the heart of the Marais district. Very quiet and comfortable, and close to everything! Highly recommend.
Fine Enough
Good hotel with attentive staff for our short stay. However the power went out in our room for the night and wasn’t fixed till the next morning. I understand older buildings have their issues but it would have been nice to have the situation resolved a little quicker.
Very pleasant staff
Very nice boutique hotel in the Marais. Lots of great restaurants within walking distance, plus great shopping. Would recommend, but avoid the first floor rooms, outside noise was a little high. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful, room size was great for a Paris hotel. Would stay again, but on a higher floor.
Wonderful stay at Hotel Charles! Everything was perfection. Cannot wait to return to Paris and will definitely stay there again!
Pleasant staff and great location but they need to up their game to become a true 4-star. Namely, both the sink and shower were clogged, a ceiling water leak, a curtain rod that blocked opening of the window, and sadly, breakfast eggs and potatoes that tasted like cardboard and had the texture of blah. Staff refused to make any repairs, citing "ce la vie"
Friendly and personalised service
Friendly and personalised service. Good size rooms for Paris. Only knock is you can hear people walking through the corridor.
It was quaint and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. The location can’t be beat.
Charles V Review
Hotel staff is very friendly, and accommodating - location is excellent, and close to "everything".
Wonderful boutique hotel
The service was great, shoutout to Charlotte for letting us check in early after an 8 hr flight. The hotel was pretty clean but the room was super tiny. The "queen" bed was 2 full or twin beds pushed together. Not fun sleeping with your feet hanging off the bed when your 5'8 and 5'11. The toilet was seperate from the shower and sink so everytime we use the toilet, we had to walk over to the sink to wash. Little annoying when its 2 am and you want to get back to bed lol. Id give this place 3 stars, definitely not 4. We were walking distance to many restaurants, cafe's and shopping. We had a good time either way.
From the minute I walked in I was greeted by a friendly, accommodating and hospitable staff. Everything was perfection. The rooms, the breakfast, the location and even a mini fitness room. I would highly recommend it and plan to return again.
Dirty rooms. Bed sheets were not changed, bathroom had mold
Quaint boutique hotel in fabulous location.
Am extremely quaint hotel in a lovely area of Paris. Many restaurants within walking distance to choose from and hotel was located on a quiet street. Staff was very nice and helpful. We would definitely stay here again!
We really enjoyed the breakfast included with the 5 days of our stay. The thing we did not like at all was the fact that the hotel's definition of twin beds is two small mattresses on one frame. By definition, twin beds are two separate beds. The Superior room we booked was just way too small. There are also very little surfaces to put things on. Had we known this, we probably would have either chosen a different property or opted for a different room. We loved the area, but we were not comfortable.
Nicely decorated rooms and lobby. Great location. Hammam was terrific and a nice touch. Quaint hotel.
Beautiful boutique hotel
I was so excited to stay at this hotel!! I booked months in advance and had big expectations. And everything met my expectations. The area is perfect for catching the metro, finding some nice shops and boulangerie. There was an adorable wine bar two doors down. The location is perfect for walking the Seine.
Beautiful boutique hotel
We travel a lot and this was our third time in Paris. We like to stay in different arrondissement each time to get the feel of each area. This was our first time at Charles V and in Marais and we LOVED it!! The area is great. Very Parisian and less touristy than other areas. It is on a quaint quiet block with local restaurants and shops. There is a Hammam that we did not use, but it looked lovely. The staff were beyond amazing! They took their time to understand our needs and were very kind to us and our awful French lol. They all spoke English very well. I cannot say enough about this place. We are already planning our next time in Paris and will definitely stay in Charles V again. We stayed in room 15. It was large and beautifully appointed.
Room was ready at 11am. Lovely clean and comfortable bed. Great restaurant recommendation. Great location for metro.
nice clean hotel that is centrally located to shopping and restaurants. standard room that is quite small, but normal for Paris. Perfect for a short stopover in Paris.
Location was amazing, lovely boutique stay, thank you
The breakfast was $20 and it was terrible. Shameful for a upscale hotel!!
Very conveniently located. Charming boutique hotel.
Charles V is a very comfortable small hotel, located close to many major sites and great cafes and restaurants. Street side a little noisy.
I had a Deluxe room number 35 -- large, light, and very quiet, not the least expensive, but I was there for a week and wanted the hotel room to be a comfortable place. In the very lively Marais area, close to the St Paul Metro stop on line 1, which is direct to many museums/sites, a block from the Seine, with lots of shops and restaurants on Rue St Antoine--couldn't be better.
Charles V is a lovely hotel and in mint condition. The staff are very helpful and knowledgable. The rooms are cute, well finished and spacious. The location is ideal.
Lovely decor, great staff, perfect location, clean and safe. A great place to stay - I would definitely stay again!
Wonderful location, beautiful rooms and even better staff! As it's an older building, sound between rooms and the hallway was occasionally noticeable.
Wonderful stay! We love this haven in Paris.
Everything was excellent about this hotel, it’s really a great option to chose! The staff was very friendly, the room very nice and clean, and amazing location having a metro station very close!
I needed a hotel for just one night prior to heading back to the US and this was perfect for me. Very lovely room, helpful staff and picture perfect part of the city.
It's a very nice hotel on a quiet street. It was close to great restaurants and only a couple of blocks to the Sienne.
Great location. Clean hotel with friendly staff.
Great hotel! Clean and great location
A perfect week in Paris!
My wife and I stayed at Charles V for 7 nights. We truly could not have asked for a better place to spend a week in Paris. The location is perfect. This is an ideal 4-star hotel with a terrific staff--who could not have been more helpful. The room, although small, was reasonable for Paris standards. It was very comfortable--stayed cool during a serious heatwave and--was appointed lovingly. Thank you from two New Yorkers who love to travel--we will be back!
Lovely charming hotel. Perfect location…quiet street but minutes from everything!
Our favorite!
This is the second time we stayed in this hotel. It is charming, beautiful, clean and in a great location. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Everything was perfect! The staff was so nice and helpful. The rooms were beautiful and clean. I’m so happy to have stayed in this hotel.
On the positive side the room was comfortable and clean. The location was nice. On the challenging side the Hamm requires 1.5 hours notice to use which is a challenge with the spontaneity of a nice holiday. The breakfast buffet is nice.
Very nice place. Comfortable and a large room. Staff was helpful and friendly.
My entire trip was ruined. There was a theft in my room, lost 2 laptops , cash, bag & jewelry. The hotel was slow to respond and no resolution. The manager didn’t do anything about it. We were told the next day that even the CCTV camera was not working. We were unable to contact the manager for last 2 days of our stay. They had proof that someone entered the room after we left. We believe it’s a inside job . I never saw the housekeeper who made our room after the day of theft. The hotel manager showed no concern and was very indifferent about the incident. The hotel doors are faulty and don’t meet security standards. Won’t recommend anyone to stay here.
.
Small rooms, larger available but with 3 suitcases we could barely walk around the bed. Great breakfast with multiple alternatives steps away makes it hard to spend the extras for breakfast. Great staff would definitely stay again. Quiet on floors 2,and above, floor one gets lobby noise.
Great hotel
We had a great stay at Charles V. The location is perfect and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Our room was clean and comfortable.
Beyond great stay!
Wonderful! The accommodations were excellent and the staff equally fabulous!!
great base for paris
We just returned from three days in paris. The first time for 12 years. We wanted a nice hotel in the marais and the charles v was right where we wanted. Such a wonderful place. Very friendly staff. Great room (get the room with a sofa as it gives you a bit more space) and a fantastic position. When we go back (wont be 12 years!) i wouldnt bother looking for any other hotel. A definite high recommendation
The location was perfect. The staff was helpful and their suggestions were spot on. Loved the decor!!
When I booked this hotel, the listed price on expedia was $180 per night. On arrival, I elected to pay for the breakfast for 2 days for 2 people. The price was 19 euros per person per day. The total for this hotel should have been about $180 x 2 = $360 plus $21 x 4 = $84. The total would come to about $444.36. Instead, the bill from Expedia was $603 plus a hotel tax that I paid separately at check out. It appears that I was over charged $158. At the time the booking was made, all that I received was a confirmation the my hotel was booked - no receipt of the payment details with that confirmation and no receipt at check out. The hotel was very nice but I believe I was fraudulently deceived.
Beautiful small hotel in great neighborhood!
Loved the hotel. Perfect location, beautifully decorated, staff extremely helpful. Would definitely stay there again! Also, breakfast was perfect!
Excellent
Excellent hotel. Everything was new, very much out of a Restoration Hardware showroom. Perfect location. Would absolutely stay here again.
The steamroll was a huge plus. Room was nicely appointed, nice furnishings. We prefer to sleep in a cool temperature, however, the thermostat did not allow us to set a temperature below 20C. Too warm for our liking. Staff was helpful booking a cab for morning departure.
bad
stuffy rooms, didn't have a room with two beds, hammam didn't work
Excellent boutique hotel in le Marais
Peaceful haven away from the hustle and bustle yet easy to access all of the main attractions Paris has to offer.
