It was wonderful experience living here, definitely want to live there again

Our room had updated furniture but the carpet was not updated and had dirty/worn spots. Hotel was in a good part of town.

The staff was helpful. The location to tourist attractions were good. The property itself was acceptable. It's refurbished, clean and well equipped with convenient parking .Unfortunately we were less than pleased with the bed and the loud heater.

Very clean and comfortable. Bathroom was very cramped though, to the degree it was hard to shut the door! Could hear guests in adjoining room. They were quiet but would be a problem if loud. Great location and price.

After a 15hr flight to get here, we really appreciated having access to our room a couple hrs before checkin time, very gratefull for this. Good central location, room was quiet at night, would stay again

I stayed here for almost a week while in town. It was in a good area and was safe. I didn’t have any issues while I was there. I didn’t have a car but the parking looked very tight, although it looks like that everywhere in the city. Close to a Walgreens and a little market which was nice. Room had a mini fridge, coffee maker, and microwave which made staying longer easy. The staff were very nice and housekeeping was great, even making sure to put my travel plushie in a nice spot on my bed when they cleaned. Thank you for making my first visit to the city enjoyable and comfortable :)

Except the old stairs & elevator, Castle Inn is out of my expectations, compared with other of my colleagues that paid a lot for 3-star above hotels in a dirty downtown district. Two Walgreens & one Trader’s Joe at walking distances. Plus, the room is equipped with a microwave, a refrigerator, and a coffee machine. Business trip friendly.

Sweatbox Inn

The rooms Amana A/C unit was not working. We were not warned during check in. The room was sweltering upon entering! We contacted the front desk immediately and were told the unit was most likely accidentally unplugged by housekeeping when they vacuumed. This was not the case. It was unplugged but had been done so to prevent fire. Both the Amana units cord and wall socket were completely burnt. We informed the front desk of that finding and we were told maintenance would come by and inspect it. We never heard back, and due to no vacancy a new room was not an option. The two night stay was uncomfortable. The only way to cool the room off - you had to open the door or the less than smooth operating windows. With the layout of the room being the way it was every person on the walkway could look in while you slept. Also this could only be done when you’re in the room because all our belongings were in view, and only the janky screen as security. Not close to ideal or comfortable stay. The crazy thing is when leaving there was a new Amana unit in box outside of our room staged there for install. Considering this was a weekend stay I would have to assume this was a known issue and the previously ordered replacement unit arrived Monday AM on the day we were checking out. This would suggest the front desk person played dumb when we called about the issue upon arrival. This was likely an isolated incident but it could’ve been handled much better. Our sleeps were not great…

Convenient location!

Our Son lives in the Condo's right next door, this is the perfect place to stay and convenient for our visits to San Fran. The room is clean, and the area is safe. The bed was comfortable too. I will be staying here when we come into to town to visit our son.

Nice bed

The check in took literally 2 minutes, paid and I got the keys. For check out I just left key in room and left. Rooms & bathroom were clean , bed was comfy and blanket, sheet & comforter were in good shape. Next time I would ask for top floor. folks above we’re walking around too much around 230 am, great location, street was surprisingly quiet

#1 Hotel in SF

This is not my first stay at Castle Inn. I have stayed here four times already, and for this fourth time my family stayed as well for a family celebration event we had over the Christmas holiday, and my family raved about how well their stay was and the excellent conditions of the rooms being so clean, and the front desk being extremely helpful, this is definitely my only hotel that I would trust traveling to the city and now I’ve made it my families preferred location as well. Parking is a most definite plus perk and I have felt safe staying here and entrusting this hotel!

Worth the price

Great non-chain place to stay!

Great hotel with parking included in room rate. Within walking distance to Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square, etc. Public bus stop less than a block from hotel entrance. Wonderful service - allowed us to check in early and leave our past checkout time with no additional fee. Pleasant and courteous staff. Would definitely stay again. My only concern was a loud, discourteous dingbat who stood out on the balcony-like walkway right outside our room - yelling at his son in the parking area two floors down, after 9 pm. That’s not really the hotel’s fault though…

Cozy, Clean, and Comfortable

The location is awesome near China Town, SF street car, and the property provides free parking. The staff was friendly, and the front desk was able to do an early check-in at 12:35pm. This place is spotless, and I will definitely return.

It was good for the money. Older but updated. Decent neighborhood but weekends were noisy. I loved having parking, but was glad I had a compact car. Just off the main road - easy to get to.

Amazing location! Stayed here for one night and was pleasantly surprised by the refurbished and large room, comfortable bed and easy parking. Will definitely be back again - perfect for short stays!

Staff was very friendly and helpful. The bed was a little lumpy but not so bad that I couldn't sleep. Large bathroom area and clean environment. Happy to have had on site parking available.

Checked in with ease

Loved the ease of checking in, the paperwork was ready... like they knew rhe exact time of our arrival which was an hour and a half before their 3 o'clock check-in.

We enjoyed our stay at the Castle Inn. The location is perfect as a launching point for exploring the beautiful bay city. Onsite parking was a bonus as was the local dining options right round the corner. Highly recommend the Street Restaurant and Bar just round the corner on Polk Street for a dinner after a day exploring the city.

1st time in San Fran

The room was spacious! The hotel was centrally located for what we were doing. Parking is tight, but manageable. No frills, nice neighborhood, easy to find. Lots of coffee shops and eateries within walking distance. The gentleman who checked us in on 11-10-24 gave us a map with popular local attractions noted. Check in was a breeze. Would definitely choose this hotel again!

The building is a bit old, but in general room is clean. Check-in and out quick and easy.

Oldie but goodie

This hotel is older and is in a part of town within walking distance to many restaurants. We only stayed one night before our cruise. It was clean and comfortable enough. It was easy to get an Uber and looked close to Chinatown and the port. It was much cheaper than other hotels in the area, but served the purpose and was a good choice for just one night.

An affordable hotel in a fantastic area of the city. It is very no frills/basic accommodations, though. But you cannot beat the price. Hotel was comfortable. Room facing Broadway was slightly noisy at times but nothing unbearable. I’d definitely stay here again. Just want to be clear about that. Lose the carpets and switch to the vinyl flooring, though. Or replace the carpets throughout. They’re in dire need of changing.

Great location

The location is excellent as it is within walking distance to Pier 39 and union square and also buses to the Golden Gate Bridge. We arrived early and our room was ready to check in. The front desk (Damien) went all the way to help us to solve the luggages issue that we face. He shared useful information. Very happy with the place, location and service provided.

Nice stay

Very clean room. A little outdated decor but nice and quiet. Parking was good and they allowed us to park after checkout while we were at the Alcatraz tour. Friendly staff.

Hidden Gem At City By The Bay

The guest representative was very helpful, give me a map showing me places nearby to eat, streetcar route information how far it was to the pier, Chinatown, and places to stay away from. The location was perfect to places I wanted to visit. My room was clean and spacious and very quiet. I would recommend this place without a doubt.

Good value for the money; could use updates

Good overall value for the price. Very convenient to the heart of SF - walkable to public transit, cable cars, etc. Some elements of the room were updated (bathroom, beds) while some were quite weathered/worn (the carpet really needs replacing - was old and threadbare). The surrounding area is fine for being in the middle of a big city - keep your wits about you like you should in any major city. Don't leave anything valuable in your car, as break-ins are common in this area. We didn't have any problems with safety but it wasn't exactly the coziest place on our extended road trip.

The hotel is older. But was cleqn and fine for one night. Nice size room with large windows overlooking the street. Convenient parking. Walkable area.

We selected the hotel based on price, location, reviews and it included free parking. We rented three rooms and enjoyed our stay! The hotel was clean and staff were friendly. There was a Walgreens and restaurants nearby. It was within walking distance of the piers and Chinatown. We will definitely stay here again!

Great location

Great value for an overnight stay

Definitely need a small car if you'll be utilizing their parking area here! Great location, convenient to most attractions in San Fran. We could've used public transportation more, but we ended up renting scooters to cruise around town which was a blast. Front desk staff was very helpful and highlighted areas on a map for us on interesting places to go, and also places to avoid! Very much appreciated. The room was clean, the outer elevator door is a pain in that you have to hold it open when hauling luggage but still glad there was an elevator available. Overall very glad we chose to stay here.

Lovely hotel in a good and convenient location.

We very much enjoyed our stay. Although an older property, the room was very clean and comfortable. We appreciated Damon (front desk clerk) looking after our luggage until we could gain access to the room. We had arrived in San Francisco on a cruise, so were in a taxi by 8am from the cruise ship terminal. Damon allowed us to leave our luggage, and when the room was ready, he called us to let us know. He had even taken the luggage up to our room for us. Excellent service! Damon kindly gave us a map of the city and marked out areas we should avoid. We did notice some dark spots on the exterior of the air conditioning units and supposed it was likely mold spots. But we enjoyed our stay and found it very convenient for the bus and only a couple of walkable blocks from the Cable Car. The price was within our budget and overall we enjoyed our stay there very much.

Friendly and clean

Very courteous and professional staff. I felt welcome when checking in. I usually spend the night when attending concerts in SF and will be reserving my rooms here in the future.

Perfect for us

Very spacious! We were in the suite and felt like we were in an apartment, minus a stove. A little noisy as to be expected, but the fan on ac blocked all of that. Close to bus stops and places to eat.

I chose this property because on your website it said within walking distance to the current theater. It was over a mile to the theater so we had to Uber, which was a disappointment. It was near Polk Street, which is a little sketchy in San Francisco. I wouldn’t choose to stay here again for that reason.

For the price, I was pleasently surprised with how clean my room was. On site parking is a little cramped but it beats parking on the street. The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. Tons of food option close by as well. Great stay, highly recommend.

Modern comfortable rooms. Right on main road so road noise can be a problem if you are a light sleeper. Tight squeeze entering parking garage.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Castle Inn. The guy at the office was friendly and knowledgeable, and the free parking was handy. Probably the most comfortable beds on our trip so far, and the whole place was spotless.

New spot for me and my family going forward! Free safe parking. Guaranteed a spot. Water pressure in shower amazing! Clean! And 1/2 a block from restaurants stores. Will always stay here on every trip! Top floor you can see top of Golden Gate Bridge. Pretty cool!

Excellent location. We have children so wanted to stay in a safe place and that is what it felt like. Easy to walk everywhere. Bedrooms are a good size. The first night we had some noisy people above us so they moved us no problem for the second night.

Very accommodating and flexible. Highly recommend, especially if traveling for a cruise and need to store your luggage ahead of time while you tour the San Francisco area as well as your return they will hold your bags or get a room for you earlier than check in.

My teenage son and I stayed at Castle Inn on a trip to San Fransisco. It was very close walking to many dining options as well as close to a convenience store to buy snacks/water to keep in the hotel room. It was also about a half hour walk to Fisherman's Wharf for a number of activities (like tour boat ride around the bay and Alcatraz tour) as well as many stores for shopping. Castle Inn provides parking, which was very helpful. There is a lower parking area beneath the hotel and a lot above ground. I only parked in the basement and found it to be very small and tight to manuever, so having a small car is certainly recommended. Our room was also on the small side with a small bathroom. With only two travelers, we managed fine, but if you're traveling with more people it could become cramped. Otherwise, the room was clean and offered everything we needed for a 3-night stay. The area is a little noisy being in downtown of a major city; however, one night was pariticularly bad with what sounded like street racing, luckily that was just one night and didn't last too long. The gentleman that checked us in was friendly and helpful providing a map with tips on where to go for food/stores.

The hotel was clean front desk very helpful and you will never find a hotel so convenient close to all transportation’s bus, cable car , and 15 minutes walk to Ghirardelli Square

I thought the hotel was very clean in the service was excellent. My maid made the trip very relaxing with keeping us in towels and coffee. I would recommend the hotel to any of my family and I will stay there again. The free parking save us a lot of money.

The property and the room itself was very nice and clean! I was impressed in a good way! The bed wasn’t the most comfortable but for a few nights was okay. However, one of the staff from the front desk, a woman with blond hair( I don’t remember her name) was extremely rude and not welcoming! She wasn’t helpful and made us feel like we are people who are bothering her or want to do something bad, like she was trying to get rid of us. She was very negative and not nice at all!!! On the other hand, there was another guy from the front desk who was total opposite of her! He was very nice and helpful!
