I loved staying here! It’s located in the heart of Old San Juan and it made it super easy for me and my mom to explore this area of the city! Room was super clean and the staff was very friendly and responsive!

We loved how spacious and clean the room was we were staying at the Galleria and this was 100 times better. We would stay there again.!

Excellent location

Excellent location in old San Juan. Easily walkable to several landmarks and a ton of restaurants and shopping stores. Additionally, the shuttle does pass around the area. Post was kind enough to let us store our luggage while we looked around the town. The only thing I wish that was in the unit Was an exhaust system to help with humidity control.

Very cute room right in the middle of Old San Juan

Such a lovely room right in the middle of all of the cafes, restaurants, and beautiful views. We especially appreciated the dehumidifier! I got quick response whenever I had a question and the site manager was very nice. I loved being able to take a night stroll and just walk back to the room instead of taking an Uber. There is a window that lets in light from the hall which isn’t a big deal if you don’t mind but you might want to be aware that it will not be pitch black at night if light bothers you. There are also birds across the hall that chirp rather loudly in the early morning. My partner and I didn’t have a problem with this but again, it might be something to consider if you are sensitive to noises in the morning. Since the room has no outside light, we appreciated the light coming in through the hall and we like the sounds of birdsong so we had a good time.

We loved this property. It has a great location. It is very clean and close to restaurants and other attractions. The owners were friendly and made us feel home.

Room smells like bird poop from bird cages outside door to room. There is a huge window with no curtain because it is high up, but at night the hall light make it look daytime in room. Room light are not efficient so during the day it is very dark. No storage and much smaller than the pictures make it appear. The only positive is the location. We have stayed in old San Juan every year for the last 10 years an this was the worst stay yet

Cute little property. Just showing its age a bit. The downside was the shower- not much pressure and the water only got lukewarm. Other than that it was a nice stay.

The staff was very helpful to accommodate the but there were many issues. The building is not easy to find due to there being no sign. Room smelled of light mildew. Overall, it served its purpose but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Convenient, clean and comfy

Check in went smoothly without a hitch and the location is perfect for exploring OSJ and the nearby Castillo. The bed was super comfortable and the room was clean, if a little tight. We were only there to sleep though so tight quarters were not a problem. Waking up to the sounds of birdsong was a pleasant surprise. Conveniently close to good music, restaurants, and attractions.

Beautiful Historic Old San Juan Vibes

Beautifully preserved historic building in Old San Juan. Excellent host, answered immediately. Great location. Elevator is a big plus.

This location is convenient to the Plaza Colon. The staff were fantastic and very accommodating. The host really helped out when I found two ladies just outside looking for their accommodations that turned out to be bogus. So our host was able to accommodate them even though it was REALLY late at night when I sent the message. The apartment we stayed in was clean and comfortable. There is even an (ancient) elevator that we used for our heavy luggage. Wonderful visit!

It is a quirky hotel but has lots of character. We stayed in the patio room which is pretty small. There are actually birds and fish in the lobby. Good location

The property was very nicely decorated and had two gates for security. While there was no front desk, the on-site manager could be contacted through the host. There were some bugs but the on site manager left me a spray to use, so things were manageable. Great location to get to everywhere in Old San Juan.

Excellent response to questions. When we arrived in San Juan, we received all the information to enter the building and our room. Security was great and easy to access. Our patio room was quite in the back.

Very nice apartment unit on the 3rd floor. We stayed at the Crystal Apartment. Because it is Old San Juan we could hear the people downstairs as there is a bar adjacent to this building, till the early hours of the morning but we knew that would be a possibility because of its location. The bedrooms, living area, kitchen/dining and bathroom were all really nicely decorated. Only thing was that I would suggest better Cleaning Staff, when we got in there was chewed gum placed on the wall behind the sofa and used dirty napkins inside one of the decorative pillows on the same. Aside from that it was a great place and also cute building for picture session inside and out.

The apartment was beautiful especially rhe entrance.

The host was excellent , very responsive, and provided helpful recommendations for places to eat and visit. We appreciated how easy the check-in process was, and the communication was seamless throughout our stay. Our stay at Cada of Essence was absolutely wonderful! The location was perfect – close to everything we wanted to explore . The home was spotless, beautifully decorated, and had all the amenities we needed to feel right at home.

Nice stay

I love the location which is a walking distance to local shops, cruises port, fort and bus terminal. The check-in and out process is very smooth, the property manager response my questions on call and text quick. I really enjoy the room even there is A/C only on the bedroom. It has a small garden/bird house that is very interesting

We enjoy our stay and the connivence of being in Old San Juan.

Everything was just as described. Very quiet and safe and clean. I would just add a curtain to the window. This was our second time staying here and wiil return again. Thank you.

This is a family-operated business and all of the members that I either spoke with or met in person are super nice and helpful. I highly recommend this property!

We stayed in the Bambu room. It was a room. Nothing more. Could only open one suitcase at a time. That being said, nothing wrong with it. Although I didn't see any staff while I was there (more of an AirBnB space), they did allow me a late checkout with an extra charge, which was nice.

Such a lovely stay! We really enjoyed the decorations. It is conveniently located near many restaurants and bars. And it’s right next door to a small supermarket that has a wide variety of products. Will def consider staying here again

It was a nice stay. The accommodated me very well. It had air condition & water was a good temperature. The rooms were clean and bathroom. They had complimentary WiFi and other things.

Old San Juan stay

It was located within 10 min walking distance from the terminal which is great. Local shops, restaurants all right there. Market next door. El meson up the street within walking distance. Just an older property. Small room but comfortable. The air conditioning never really got cold. For one night it was good. A longer stay with no really cold ac would be a problem

One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in! Perfect location and size

The property is located in a perfect area for partying. There are lots of bars and restaurants nearby and it’s a walkable area. Also the room was nice and clean. I had a little hiccup when I tried to check-in however, I can’t blame the host for various reasons. I highly recommend the property and would definitely stay here again.

We booked this property line looking good review but it is overrated and many comments can be fake. In fact, room is way too small and only one bed and another couch even though they charged us for premium two queen beds for 4 of us. Escalator is too old and scary. Room was smelling bad. There are far more better hotels nearby. Definitely not recommended.

Overall it was a great experience, very clean and very safe … just one thing there was a bird keep cawing and it somewhat disturbed the sleep … otherwise it was an excellent place

The property was very comfortable. I stayed at 2 different units, The Tropical Apartment and it was gorgeous and very spacious. Full equipped kitchen, but AC at room only. But the weather was nice and no issues w/ that. I also stayed at The Patio Room, it was much smaller, but AC throughout. But, not having a kitchen was not ideal. But, overall comfortable, but not as nice and cute as The Tropical Apartment. I highly recommend the Tropical Apartment, for a bit more you get much more space and kitchen. It’s close to everything in old San Juan (San Sebastian area). Bars, restaurants and a lot to do walking distance. I loved it! There is parking near by if you rent a car. (Highly recommended to explore the island). I would definitely stay here again.

Property is across or walking distance to food and coffee shop. Right in the middle of old San Juan so you pretty much able to walk old San Juan.

Would have gave 5 stars but the water didn’t get very hot. That was the only issue.

Great location in Old San Juan

We ended up in the Garden Apartment, which was nice but overall a little stuffy and dark (minus the garden room during the day). The floorplan was a little strange, but the owners did a nice job with trying to make things as comfortable as possible. The space was clean and we loved the location in Old San Juan. Customer service was excellent on our arrival day when I called regarding early check-in or bag drop-off, and we were provided with a travel crib for our baby. We would certainly stay here again.

Decent property for the price

What a clean, comfortable, fabulous, historically old, and charming location to stay in Old San Juan! I came for the experience of Viejo San Juan and got it in the hotel setting but with modern comfort (AC & ceiling fan). I was able to walk the old city and enjoy it’s restaurants and shops. If and when I return to San Juan, I’ll definitely return to Casa of Essence. I’m so glad to have found this gem! I’ll recommend it to friends/family coming here.

Very nice, except there is no one in case of you need help

The stay is in a great area. All spots in old san juan are walkable from this place. The water heater was not working when we checked in. The owner was responsive and got it fixed. The floor was peeling off.

We stayed 5 nights at cassa de essence right near San Christobal Fort and plaza. Everything was within walking distance. My husband and I rented the patio room very quaint and perfect for us. Mildred our host was very helpful absolutely nice and welcoming, they treat you like a family here I felt safe with the three codes that you need to get into the hotel. Crystal is the daughter if you need any other accommodations she’s the go to person very nice and respectful. I rate this place a 10 I will be back soon. Thank you for this great experience.

Getaway in the heart of Old San Juan

Right in the heart of Old San Juan, and steps from one of the forts, a plaza for tour groups, tons of restaurants, and even a convenient corner store. This is not a luxury hotel, but it was comfortable and clean, had a ton of character, and was surprisingly quiet! Air conditioning worked great, and the shower was the perfect temp. All the linens were spotless. There were two luggage racks in our room, as well as a hair dryer, and an iron and ironing board. Checking in and out was super easy, and the hosts were very responsive. We had a great four-night stay!

When booking this trip (our first to Puerto Rico) we were told that parking was available just a couple of blocks away and it wouldn’t be a problem to drop off our luggage at the building entrance and park in a nearby, inexpensive parking garage. It wasn’t too far away (about 3 blocks) but with the one way streets, it was challenging to find and it was $25 a day. We also weren’t warned about the apparent “NO EARLY ARRIVAL” policy. We arrived about 35 minutes earlier than the 4:00 check-in time, which was beyond our control, and a person who claimed to be an employee there (he said his name was Jose), was extremely rude about our early arrival and allowing us access to the entranceway to get our luggage in off the street, causing me to have to stand on the sidewalk in front of the market next door while waiting for my husband to find the parking garage and make the trek back to our building, all while we were waiting for the text containing the 3 separate door codes to gain access to the building and our suite. It definitely made for a VERY stressful arrival! Although the suite was clean and comfortable, some of the dishes in the cabinet were dirty, with the previous occupants food left on them and there were no extra paper towels or trash bags provided. I’m not sure if the owners of Casa of Essence are new to the business but they could put more effort into informing guests, especially first timers, of their early arrival policy and the parking/traffic situation.

It’s the location and reasonable price point. Otherwise super basic. Not super clean (floor wasn’t mopped properly, everything didn’t feel super freshly cleaned… whatever cleaner they use leaves an after smell). Water in shower never got hot. Pretty basic, only thing that works is really the location

Host gave excellent representation of unit. Supplied excellent communication regarding access to property the day we arrived. So much to see and do within walking distance that we did not rent a car until we left the property.

We booked the Luxury Studio for our family of 3. It was the right size for us. True to the pictures and cleanliness. The accommodation details were easy to follow and are available for any questions. We loved how close we were to everything! There’s a grocery store right next to it which was a plus! We booked this trip for my sister-in-laws wedding and we wanted to be close to the wedding venue at Casa de España which was an 8 minute walk. Bonuses: Less than a minute walking distance from Caficultura (best vanilla latte). Mavi and Alfredo have delicious empanadas! Short Walking distance from Castillo Cristobal (about 5 mins) and about 15-20 min walk to el Morro (save your receipt and you can show the other for free entry). We also booked an appointment at Senzala Tattoo Shop which was also less than a minute walk. Thank you so much!

Very beautiful.

Perfect location. The entire historic district is so walkable. The only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 for cleanliness was it was a little dusty. And I gave it 4 stars for property condition because there were no smoke detectors and the windows were inoperable, which made me uneasy.

We literally stayed for a few hours because our flight arrived at 2am and we had to leave out by 9am. The place has an old school charm and was good for a few hours of sleep.

The location was great, right in the middle of everything and safe, they have everything one needs, towels, shampoo and conditioner. The place is spacious but gaudy, full of artificial flowers everywhere like a funeral home, needs upgrade badly, it’s like staying at a dead grandparent’s home.

This is a really cute place in the heart of Old San Juan. All of the checkin was done virtually and we were provided door codes to get into the building and the room, which was very convenient (no keys or cards to carry around). The room was clean and had a microwave and small fridge.

If yr looking for posh, this is not yr place. If yr looking for safe, clean, near EVERYTHING and fully supplied with what you need, this is it. Impressed with communication and attention to what the client would need right down to the small tube of toothpaste and soft cozy towels.

We loved this room/apartment! Keep in mind that it is in a city area so you will hear all the noises of people and cars well into the early morning. I had ear plugs and had no problem sleeping. Will definitely stay there again. Great location and very charming.

We wanted to stay in Old San Juan and found this location to be a perfect fit for being close to a lot of different venues and restaurants. One of the forts was only one block away and the other Fort was within walking distance also. We stayed in the vintage apartment and found the apartment to be very large and comfortable. We would stay at this location again in the future. We were going on a cruise and arrived in San Juan two days early. Our flight arrived early in the morning and the host was able to hold our bags and had our room ready a couple hours early so we could check in and start to enjoy San Juan.

The property was amazing. Felt very secure with three codes needed to get to room. Walkable to anything you wanted to do. I liked how close it was to Plaza Colon where most tours could pick you up. My only disappointment was i thought my room would have patio doors that opened to the street, but glad I didn’t because my room was pretty quiet. I’d definitely stay here again if I return to Old San Juan.

Sweet room in a classic and charming old building.

Great place to stay! Wonderful location, walking distance to all of old San Juan. They were under construction in some of the place. Looks like some beautiful upgrades coming. We look forward to returning to see them completed.
