Room was WAY smaller than photo, also had holes in the walls (rat issue). Smelled like sewage, trash strewn right under the window. Very thin walls. Plastic on the hallway floors. Folks were smoking pot in the room nextdoors too.
For a quick stay this place is good for the price. The location was walkable to many areas and i enjoyed that you need to use your room key to access the building. Many of the rooms are being renovated right now so there were construction sounds present.
Love this place!!!
Great location, always friendly and helpful family owned and operated. Small but everything needed is there and clean. Many stairs to climb but i like the excercise. Warning: there is never any parking in the vicinity so you might spend an hour driving around but that has nothing to do with the Casa Loma :) Prices are great and predictable.
Great little hotel for a quick stay. The room was small but clean and even had a microwave and minifridge. It is an older building, but that doesn't bother us at all. The lady who checked us in was amazing and exceedingly helpful. We would definitely stay again!
The hotel was very nice. The property was very welcome and the staff was very.
Nice people, inferior hotel
Front desk very friendly
kind stuffs
The hotel is good considering the price, the room was overlooking Fell street and very noisy. Had to have tv on the alleviate the noise while sleeping.
It was cold no thermostat. There was no hot water. This hotel is not Eco-friendly. I ran the water about 10 minutes and got warm water for less than 30 seconds. Gallons of water wasted! I could not take a shower too cold. The faucet leaked. I had to push hard to get the faucet to stop. My key card failed everyday it was demagnetized, very frustrating. This can be a nice hotel it's in the Fillmore close to the Haight. I did like the free hot chocolate (coffee) machine.
It is one of the worst hotels I stayed at.

My room was tiny but cute. Bathroom looked to have been fairly recently updated. There was a lot of construction going on staring early in the morning on the floor I was on. With that keeping things vacuumed and neat would be difficult and it is an old building. I would stay again at the price compared to the big name hotels. Convenient for my purposes, easy walk to Alamo Square and a nice park.
Terrible. Stay away
You can clearly hear the amplified sound of footsteps from upstairs, as if they are stomping directly on your head. When the neighbors open their door, it sounds like someone is opening the door to my room, and it startles me every single time.
The staff was very nice.
The place is good for one o two nights only ithe noise from outside u can hear
For the price in that area it is a good deal. Bare minimum bit friendly staff
Good value for the price. Not a lot of space and no view to speak of, but way, WAY less expensive than anything else near music venues and other stuff in the Haight. Clean, nice staff, pretty quiet. Perfect for an overnight stay to go to a local concert. Definitely worth getting the private room with own bathroom.
Never again
VERY noisy room just feet from busy road… never again!
Nice simple little hotel
Easy check in, simple and comfortable room, affordable and central. I would stay here again.
Old property, no elevator, there wasn’t staff for real, in the morning a man to clean and another person downstairs which you barely see.
The mattress was extremely poor quality and was set on a frame that was too large for it. Our bed kept sinking down to the floor and we were not able to sleep.
Very convinient location with friendly staff
Nice people
Great little place to stay - it’s basic , clean , & affordable ( it ain’t the Ritz Carlton) in a great neighborhood and on public transportation. Highly recommended
Great location friendly service, this place kinda feels like staying at a hostel but with a private room instead of just a bed. The walls are a little bit thin so not the place for a light sleeper. Bathrooms are shared but there was a private sink in room.
Unbelievable location & unbeatable price!
Incredible location and comfortable stay - amazing for the price! Very friendly helpful staff. This is our new go to hotel when we travel to SF!
The room we stayed in was clean but could have been improved by adding a small table and having a sturdy shelf in the restroom. The location is convenient, and the price was reasonable.
Excellent value for the price, note there is no elevator. Lovely staff, allowed early check in at no additional cost. 24 hour, secure entry. Worth noting that there is a bit of noise and you can sometimes hear occupants in the next room.
Excellent value and location!
Wonderful location, great, clean location!! Friendly staff. I’ve done 4 trips here now and find it to be best place to stay.
Cozy but everything you need
Cozy rooms but with all the amenities (mini fridge and microwave and small seating area) for a great price. Our room had a private bathroom that was recently updated. Becaware no elevator but great location close to stores and restaurants in the lower haight just three blocks. Great access to public transit or a inexpensive lyft to downtown. No breakfast but fee coffe machine in the morning. Great value for a very expensive city!
In a very convenient location! Staff were very welcoming and would come again!
Always love staying here when I’m SF. It a no frills hotel, which is perfect for my needs.
I really enjoyed me stay!
Great hotel for a good price in a nice and safe neighborhood
The hotel is in a safe quiet neighborhood close to Alamo square, the popular painted ladies. You can't beat the value of what you're getting in san francisco in a,safe neighborhood. Their are some negative reviews on this hotel . They have a option for a 4 star hotel , but at a much higher price. The owner is there at the hotel, so you have someone who cares .
Nice, quiet, and not so busy location. Had all the resources, including a nearby laundromat
Nice place
I didn't think about being up several floors with no elevator. The building is old but well maintained The staff was friendly and helpful. The coffee machine that made various coffee beverages automatically was a nice surprise. Good value overall for the price and area.
Needs a serious overhaul. Actually they were planning to but canceled. I have stayed here before. Great walking to Alamo Park and painted ladies. Great Portland vibe area down the hill on Hayes. Easy walk to Market then Castro. The 22 bus makes great connections to light rail. Could do better on the vaccuming as well but the carpets do need to go.
I did like this hotel very much...I chose it because going to a show at The Fillmore Auditorium was on my bucket list, and I wanted to walk back to a hotel after the show. The only drawbacks are minor: no ice machine, no a/c in the room, and the vehicle traffic outside does keep you up at night. But the manager gave me a fan after the first night to help block out the street noise, which really helped. About a 20 minute walk from the Civic Center BART station. Helps if you can bring your own water and soda as no vending on site and the market down the street is pretty pricey.
Very much an older property, so don't be expecting the world. But, service was excellent and friendly, and the location is my favourite area on that side of the Bay,
not great if you don't like stairs
we arrived after midnight and had no problem with the check in. staff very friendly. cleaned room.
Share bathrooms and toilets were not clean. The room we stayed was dirty so are the communal arias. Had to ask to put toilet paper after waiting day and a half. Very disappointing, I did not enjoyed my holidays
We spent a lovely weekend celebrating our anniversary here. The staff was awesome! Our room was cozy. And I absolutely LOVED my fire escape balcony window! A 20 minute walk to Haight Street, Tim's Liquor store across the street, and one block from Alamo Square, where we lounged for hours, surrounded by picturesque views and great people. This is our new home away from home.
I constantly go to the city for work and this is the go-to place I stay at. They remember you and are so kind about it. They have this at-home family feel that you just can't find anywhere else, especially for it being a hotel in the city.
There was no ac or even a fan to circulate air in the room. Tried to open the window to get some cool air to come in, and window almost fell out. Just suffered for seven days.
Super clean room and friendly staff. Only issue was a barking dog, but that only happened on one afternoon. Overall, you can’t beat the price for a safe, clean room, comfortable bed, friendly staff and an excellent coffee/espresso machine in the lobby!
Mucho ruido ya que es un edificio antiguo y la calle es transitada toda la noche, no se puede dormir agusto
Pass on this ine
Great location, old, rundown and not very clean. Worst of all is the room facing the street has plastic windows and it is SO loud
Im not one who likes to spend a lot on hotels the Casa Loma is cheap for San Francisco so don’t expect to much, but the beds are clean as are the showers
Everyone there is very sweet and accommodating will definitely be going back.
Wonderful little hotel stay
Awesome little budget stay in the Fillmore district. Close to multiple points of interest, but not busy or super gross like some parts of the area. This is a no-frills great place to stay with phenomenal customer service and staff. They did their best to get us into our room early, since we were going to a concert in the area that started before check-in time. The front desk woman taught us how to use the public transit in the area for free and simple and it absolutely saved us on the way to the venue and home when ubers were impossible to get. The room was the definition of function, extremely tiny, but well laid out and literally had everything you need. Microwave, closet, refrigerator, blow dryer etc. The carpet and fixtures were dated, if you care about that sort of thing. I was impressed with how well kept all of this was, my biggest praise was the cleanliness of the room. The carpet was clean, and didn't leave filth on your feet when you walk across it after a shower. The bedding was crisp and clean and there was great attention to detail with the cleanliness of the entire room. Like a lot of the smaller niche hotels in the area, there was no air conditioning, but the front desk supplied us with a fan when we asked, which was a game changer. The shower did only have one sliding glass panel, so it was a little messy, but it was a minor inconvenience.
No hot water
Do not recommend
The location is nice! Right in the city and walking distance to nightlife. The rooms are very tiny and no AC. It’s gets very hot and stuffy. You can open the window but it smells like you are in a sewer and very loud from street noises.
Our bathtub was backed up so whenever we showered the water would be at ankle level!! The mattress on the bed was stained, the window screen was completely broken and left outside in the terrace. The walls were chipping, the headboard was stained and had some funky residue stuck on it. Overall not the best.
Good for the right traveller
This hotel was put into an old building. And, the owners did a good job of making it work in that building. But, there are some weaknesses that might matter to some travelers. First, being old, the floors were not level, including the stairway and the tub. It could be a problem for people who is not sure on their feet. Second, the beds were shorter than normal beds. I am not a tall person, but if I was 2 inched taller I don't think I would have fit comfortably. So, if one is sure on one's feet and one is not particularly tall, and this is the part of SF one wants to be in, then this is a great choice. Otherwise it might be better to look elsewhere.
Lobby and common area tired, room tiny but clean and nice.
Nice centrally located spot for an SF short stay. Inerior single room with shared bath was a good night's sleep.
I knew there wasn’t AC when I booked (in mid August), so it’s Casa Loma’s fault, but the room got hot at night. I had to keep the window open throughout the night, and unfortunately the street noise was extremely loud. We downloaded a pink noise app and kept it on high all night to mask out most of the traffic. Other than that, it’s a decent place to stay.
Area seems safe and decent but no parking. Hotel room is remodeled (queen bed w/private bath). Room was small and felt authentic. That frisco city feel for sure not like big corporate hotels. Would stay here again. The coffee machine was good and the kind gentleman on the morning shift was nice.
Stay there every time we’re in SF. Convenient walking to work and restaurants, and a quick Waymo ride to anywhere you want to go.
Hard to find parking on the street
Area was very nice and quite. However we did not have AC access in the unit. Still worth though
The kindest staff. They are welcoming, friendly and most importantly helpful.
I’ve had my family stay here twice when they visit me in SF and they love it.
Worth for the price.
I've been staying at the Casa Loma for over 12 years since I left the West Coast. I'm giving the hotel five stars based on what it is: a simple European style, no-frills hotel. It's super clean, the staff is very helpful and accommodating, and it's very well-located, at the border between the Lower Haight and Hayes Valley. It's in an authentic neighbourhood only a block from Alamo Square Park where the "Painted Ladies" are located. Since my 2023 visit, the hotel has upgraded their service: you can now get daily housekeeping at no extra charge if you want it. It's one of the only hotels (of any class) located outside of the downtown areas. Believe me, as a former San Franciscan and a regular visitor, there is no reason to stay in the city's downtown, except maybe easy access to Chinatown and North Beach. Better to stay in a neighbourhood where San Franciscans actually live and enjoy the best of what the city has to offer.

Clean and great location.
Well the place felt safe it was locked up and it was very clean and cheap they had coffee and it was just an overall nice place
Location was goood. Hotel was good. My only issue was the room given to me was at the corner of an intersection so it was insanely noisy. If you get room 206 ASK to switch. The windows are very thin and not a second goes by where you arent hearing cars driving
There is not enough space around the sink bathroom, bathroom door would often slide on its own, and parking is complicated especially when is M-F. The place does not have their own parking lot so I had to look around the neighborhood for parking spaces. I have to say the best was the cleaning crew.
Staff was great and helpful. Bathroom is super clean. Rooms are clean. Although the rooms are hot as there are no central AC, and some rooms don't have ceiling fan. However, you can request for a portable fan if needed. I'll recommend it, and I'll stay there again
Quaint and convenient location!
Excellent
Overall one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in but the one thing I would say is the AC should’ve been added to all rooms, there was no access to turn on nor front desk wanted to adjust to help.
I like my room is clean but it seems that some bad smell from shared bathrooms. The noise at night is bad.
.
Perfect for spending a night in the city
Okay, so where to start. I could look past the no elevator, the very thin walls, and the nearby shared bathrooms that allowed the halls to smell like waste. But what I could not look past was the bed filled with black hair. I asked to switch rooms because I figured, maybe this room was a fluke and they forgot to wash the bedding. On to the next room I go, same situation. The bed had hair everywhere, short ones and long ones, but all black so I appreciated that consistency. I pick them off the bed because at this point I'm exhausted and have no where else to go. I take a trip to the bathroom in my room (which I paid extra for), which I had the delight of seeing (more) hair all over the floor. Either there is a very hairy housekeeper going around shedding, or they are not cleaning their rooms. Anyways, one pro is its in a great location.
Perfect for what we needed! Nice central location.
For the area this is the cheapest option which is also clean, feels safe and comfortable! Cool spot. I had the shared bathroom room and it was all good. Facilities were clean and the room was comfy and cozy. Parking was a little challenging but that goes with the territory. My car did not get broken into.
A great stay for a low price. The room and bathrooms were clean and I appreciated the separated showers and toilets close to the rooms. I would definitely stay there again
My stay was ok except for how hot my room was. I left in the middle of the night for another hotel with an AC. It wasn’t really hot that day and I could feel heat coming out of the air ducts. They are so very nice I didn’t want to complain but I think they should do something about the lack of AC.
Bien
No elevator. But other than that, a wonderful place to stay if you do stairs. Not wheelchair accessible, sadly.
Great location, clean room, and friendly, helpful staff at an excellent rate - everything we were looking for!
convenient location
This place was perfect for us, being two young women travelling alone, we were nervous about finding our own way around SAN Francisco. Once we arrived at Casa Loma, the host sat us down and gave us a detailed orientation to the city and its transit and safe areas. Was noisy, but I could care less for the price and service we received! Would return!
Everything was really good till I laid down in the bed and that thing was hard as a rock and lumpy, unfortunately. 🙁
Not bad for $79
No elevator
Basic and reliable.
We were really grateful for the staff allowing us to check in late last minute - our train and been delayed 4 hours but thanks to the staff we were able to still check in after normal hours. The room and bathroom was clean, the area is quite loud (the traffic in particular) and it isn't soundproofed very well, but the location is great, close to plenty of restaurants and public transport. It served It's purpose and we were happy with our stay!
We really enjoyed the hotel it was cloae to everything we needed. I feel they need to invest in some better pillows. I awoke with a neck ache because they were all lumpy. Rooms on the inside are way cheaper, that is because they dont have a bathrrom or shower in the room. Also there is no elevator.
