A wonderful hotel, a little paradise. Very kind, helpful manager, who also showed us the bees she keeps. Excellent breakfast. Nice pool and comfortable rooms. Quiet location but with decent restaurants nearby. Highly recommended.

An oasis in Tulum

Casa Don Diego is a wonderful place to stay in now-overgrown Tulum. It is easy walking distance from the main strip and lots of restaurants and shops. Yet it is far enough away to be quiet and tranquil. The pool and grounds are lovely. The breakfast each morning is fresh and delicious. Stay at this well-run, comfortable hotel.

Tulum everything

Nice and very relaxing. Hospitable and informative host. Walking distance to the pueblo/downtown area. Quiet and nice nature around the complex. Enjoyed the pool and dining area. Outdoor kitchen had everything needed. Room was comfortable with large garden patio. Biked to both the beach and nearby cenotes. Safe and secure. Close to the ADO bus station. Will stay again and highly recommend.

This property is very unique. It’s like a little oasis. The owners are beekeepers and have some of their Melipona hives on site and offer experiences. They also have a small hidden chicken and duck yard which my teen loved. The food is made by a coffee company called Brew Tulum and the owners are an absolute joy to be around. The coffee was phenomenal and they also offer experiences. The food was fresh, and very unique served on beautiful pottery and in jarritos. We enjoyed the pool and the plantings and even took home a small jar of their Melipona ‘medicinal’ honey.

Fabulous homey stay

We loved Casa Don Diego. We were welcomed promptly and given a tour of the family run facility. The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel is at the end of the strip on a residential street so quiet. Breakfast in the morning was homemade bread, eggs, the owners honey and coffee at a modest cost for what you get. Close to the street vendors plaza for food in the evening. Pool was clean and refreshing. If you want an affordable quiet place for family or a couple, I highly recommend Casa Don Diego!

Loved this hotel

Monica made us feel so welcome. Check-in was a breeze. The room was small but perfectly comfortable. The sink was outside the bathroom, which made it easier to use than it if had been inside the bathroom. Our shower was circular, tiled, and had a skylight at the top. The patio was so lovely, surrounded by bamboo. In the morning the birds were all singing. We felt like we were in the jungle.

An in-town oasis!!

A lush and relaxing setting with great cocktails and a lovely breakfast with homemade jams and eggs farmed right at the hotel. A fascinating bee education facility maintained just like the Mayans did centuries ago! A pool that is open all night long and very attentive and friendly staff and owner. You must try Don Diego, we can't wait to go back!!

Great hotel, fantastic restaurant food!

Tulum is a bit weird as the town's main strip is on a busy dual carriageway (the main road to Cancun) and the beach is a 3 mile drive or taxi ride away. However, the Hotel is tucked 100 metres back in a quiet side road and you forget the main road is there. This place is beautiful. Lovely rooms set in tropical gardens with a decent size pool and their own bee hives tucked away at the back. lovely to walk out onto your patio and sit in the hammock strung there. Only slight criticism was the lack of a fridge in the room although there is a communal fridge outside one of the rooms. Highlight of our 2 night stay was dinner in their restaurant (so good we ate there both nights, which we rarely do anywhere!). Great quality, great flavours, great service and great value. Highly recommended particularly if you have your own transport although there were lots of bikes to hire if you're feeling energetic enough to cycle to the beach and Tulum ruins which are not to be missed. Loved it!

Clean, comfortable, private hotel in town

Excellent quick-serving staff, clean rooms, nice public areas with lots of trees and privacy. Pool & dining area was nice. Free breakfast was excellent. Cheap rates, room spartan but well taken care of, hotel located in town (not by the beach) means its convenient to many restaurants & bars, but requires taxi ride (or long bike ride) to get to exquisite beach areas. Overall very solid experience for the price.

An oasis just out of main Tulum town.

Loved this Hotel - it is an oasis on outskirts of Tulum town but not too far to walk. Down a side street it is a little oasis with shady trees and plants and their own bees!! Loved it for our trip in April 2016 Food was also good and deliciously different. We took a taxi to Tulum ruins and fabulous beach. Also took the ADO bus (great hotel for being short walk to bus station) to Coba and climbed the castille ruin pyramid there.

Cheap place to say

Could have used an in room fridge, but the main fridge worked for us (shared). Quiet location off main street, very close to shops, but in a poor area, with a mix of new and very old housing. Nice place though, gated, but with limited parking, though kind of a shock at first, if you are use to holiday in, but i guess that's the idea (jungle theme). Staff was great, but food cost was high (though could have just walked 2 minutes to a local restaurant). Had to chase mosquitoes out of room. Not many choices in this price range in the city, so would stay again. Pool is not heated, coldish in January.

Very nice hotel!

Very nice hotel and helpful friendly staff. No problem for us to change rooms to an air conditioned room (it was very humid in Tulum at the time we were there), and it was a pleasure to have a swim in the pool each day when we returned. Food was very good, enjoyed a relaxing breakfast each day that was included in our price, cooked to order, and a nice assortment of jams to try. Location is slightly out of the town core, and a block from the main road on a bit of a remote road so can be quite dark each night and a bit of a walk from town, but you can take cabs if that's an issue. We walked and it was fine. There is some very good places to eat with very cheap prices close by especially if you like fresh seafood.

I stayed 3 nights at this hotel in May with some friends. If you're looking for a comfortable, clean and small hotel at an affordable rate, then don't hesitate. You will be treated like a VIP and you will enjoy some delicious food. Although located in Downtown Tulum, we felt really safe there. I recommend to get a car as the hotel is not right on the beach. After a few days at a big resort for a friend's wedding, Don Diego de la Selva was the perfect place to finish this wonderful trip in the Yucatan.

Mosquitoes and no net

This place is so hot in the summer. For the bungalow, they only give you a ceiling fan for the heat, so good luck sleeping. Also, there is only one mosquito net, but good luck not getting bitten at night. Also, our bathroom was not private at all. Someone taking a shower could be seen from out the window.

Birding the Yucatan

This was our first night on the Yucatan. Everything worked out fine. We had dinner at the lodge and it was very good. The room (cabana) was nice. The only problem was it was Friday night and music was going on in the neighborhood until very early in the morning. A Turquoise-browed Motmot was seen right at the lodge, as were some parrots. We left at 6:30 AM to visit the nearby Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, which was a special treat.

Loving Tulum

This hotel has a lot to be desired. We stayed in a Cabana and both left with bug bites. The room is open to pests coming in near the roof. I got very little sleep. Dogs were barking most of the night only to be followed by roosters in the early AM. It is in a residential neighborhood with no animal controls. The restaurant was its shining point. It was fabulous. I highly recommend the food. The service was also good at the hotel. I would not stay again because I need to be able to sleep.

lovely hotel - average location

Great hotel. Rooms, gardens, pool, food and service were all very good. We loved the hotel but we like to get out and about as much as possible. Tulum has shops and cheap restaurants but isn't a very attractive town. The whole town is along a 4 lane highway and the walk back to the hotel is through a scruffy area. The beach is a 70 peso taxi ride away. The sun beds are owned by the restaurants and you have to spend 300 peso each on food if you want one. Akumal 20 mins up the coast would be a better base.

Rooms are clean & comfortable as long as you like very hard beds. Clean, well kept grounds that are a little bit of jungle close to town. Pool & surrounds were OK even if you had to remind them to turn on the filter sometimes. Food in restaurant was excellent but a bit ovepriced though .You may get tired of the included breakfast ( same thing every day). Charming, authentic place to stay in Tulum!

Enjoyed our 3 nights at this charming little inn on the southern end of the town of Tulum, located in a residential neighborhood. The rooms are simple, but the service and atmosphere are amazing. We had a lovely breakfast each day, included in our stay. But their restaurant, Yerbas y Sabores (Herbs and Flavors)was so good that we had dinner there each night as well. Unique spot on the west outskirts of town

We enjoyed our stay here. The cabana we stayed in was fun and cute, with a grass roof. The grounds was full of lots of trees & plants with walking paths to rooms. Beautiful! One fun thing was the bee hives on the property and the honey was served with the included breakfast. Negatives: --No air conditioning, although the ceiling fan worked great. --Our curtains rod broke off the wall the first afternoon and landed on the floor. Oops! We told reception and someone from maintenance was there within minutes to fix. Only a minor inconvenience, and we were impressed with the service. --We noticed a minor problem with ants in our room the second night. There weren't a ton, probably just a couple dozen or so. Since they didn't seem interested in hopping into bed with us, we didn't even mention it to anyone. --The only real negative that would keep us from staying here again was the location. It was on the west outskirts of town, past the sidewalks. If we went to Tulum again, we'd probably look for something more centrally located. But it was still a nice place to stay.

A Quiet Oasis in Tulum

If you are looking for a nice, quiet hotel experience in Tulum, look no further than Don Diego de la Selva. There are a total of 12 rooms inside of a walled courtyard with a pool and huge palapa (the restaurant) being the center of the compound. The grounds are a garden with many beautiful flowers and brightly colored birds. Our room was very nice with A/C and very hot water in both the shower and the bathroom sink. We also had a nice patio overlooking the garden. The service was top notch, though we need to single out Sabrina for her excellent advice and service during our stay. It is located on the edge of town rather than in the middle where traffic and people make it noisy. A cheap $2 cab ride would take you to the center of town and there are also cheap taxis to take you to the ruins and to the playa. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Tulum.

The abundant breakfast features fresh squeezed juice (a different one for each day of the week!), coffee, pastries and delicious jams, and a choice of three breakfast platters. I can't say enough good things about this hotel. The food was amazing-I highly recommend staying here and even if you don't stay here because you want to be on the beach you should definitely go eat dinner here. The chef is outstanding! We couldn't believe how delicious everything was-we were so impressed with every dish we tried. The hotel does not serve lunch unfortunately but the owner recommended a restaurant across the street -within walking distance that was very good. Breakfast is included with the room and it was also very good. We also took advantage of the spa on the grounds and had a fantastic massage by Jessica. What a sweet little oasis

We loved this charming little place! It has lovely grounds and a great little pool. The rooms are clean and the air conditioning was delightfully reliable. It is a bit far from the beach but a nice bike ride and close to a lot of great places to eat.

Perfect

The hotel is not easy to find without a GPS, but once you're there you're surrounded by complete calm and charm. The entering porch is very authentic and inviting. The rooms are tastefully decorated and comfortable. Breakfast, which was included in the rate, was the best we've had in 15 days in Mexico, honestly. Served in a beautiful garden, it comprised of coffee and fresh juice, home made eggs (whatever style you like), home made cake or pudding, fresh fruit and bred with mango/papaya jam (also home made I suppose as it tasted divine :) ).

Efficient and quick stay - would repeat

The best check-in of our trip - arrived to the hotel, mentioned that we have a reservation and our names, and the front desk guy says "Welcome, you are in room X", grabs a key, walks us in, helps with the bag and says "enjoy your stay". Super efficient - 3 minutes and we were taking hot showers after a long day. The room was very comfortable, with a hammock and a large king bed - as an additional detail, they had a basket with a night light and a mosquito repellent (the type you plug in) - excellent! The AC worked well and so did the fan. Overall I would repeat.

good hotel in tulum

located at the end of town, nice hotel with big, clean rooms and a nice pool... unfortunately, during the night of our stay there was a wedding party going on next door which played super loud and annoying (so much bass) until 3 am but we were told that this usually never happens, it is normally a very quiet neighborhood...

Friendly place

Great value, comfortable rooms with air con & good wifi. Located on the edge of town within walking distance but would have preferred to be closer in. Great service, would recommend
