Our bed was just getting a little tired, not the the most comfortable sleep, but otherwise a great stay.

Lovey olden day atmosphere. Log fire and good bar and restaurant menue. Very good clean comfortable bed with good room rates. Highly recommended.

This was a historic property so we didn’t expect things to be perfect. The one unimportant thing that was annoying was the bathroom mirror.You could only see in it if you were 6’6 and I’m 5’2. Luckily there was a large mirror in the bedroom. The grounds of this hotel had beautiful gardens and lots of historic artifacts. The dining room served delicious meals, as well. It was an enjoyable stay.

The place it's a nice stylish property. Only problem was the noise from outside what the other guests made late night. The place good for people who want to have a nice dinner at the restaurant/bar & want to stay for a night. Only for travelers maybe it won't be the best choice. Thanks

nice old hotel with great amiance

I got a small room which I knew when I booked. It did however have the basics of TV, comfy bed and most importantly private bathroom. The pub was good for a beverage or two.

Staff were helpful and pleasant. Unique old western mountain setting with updated rooms. Food was great.

Very nice place to stay at. Very hot in the room though, with no A/C. Understandable why they don’t have A/C though as would only be used a few weeks a year. The TV was about 20years old and didn’t work so maybe they should update though with some FlatScreens on the wall and do away with those old cupboards. Otherwise all good and awesome Bar/Restaurant etc

Awesome historic hotel. Great atmosphere and vibe. Bar and food options cater for all. Will definitely try to stay here again if I am travelling through the region in the future.

Super charming!

Stunning gardens where we enjoyed a beautiful meal. Easy parking next to property. We stayed in the room with a balcony overlooking the gardens - breathtaking! We also had access to the hot tub - worth it! Staff are super helpful. A trip highlight!

Wonderful hotel! I highly recommend. Oasis compared to the madness of Wanaka. Cardrona Hotel is a beautifully restored old hotel. Surroundings are clean, quiet and beautiful. Staff warm, relaxed, helpful and friendly. Food and coffee excellent. Count yourself a winner if you stay here.

My favorite stop of our holiday. Lovely room the staff were great and the food at the restaurant was exceptional. Could not fault it. Thank you

Great stay at Historic Hotel

My wife and i had 2 wonderful nights at Cordrona Hotel. We opted to splurge for the King Studio room which was the only room with its own terrace overlooking the lovely back garden. We sat out both nights enjoying the view and a bottle of wine. The staff are young and from all over the world. They all work hard to make the stay exceptional. Thank you Axel, Jonas, and Yun- sorry if the spelling is wrong. The food in the restaurant is delicious and the grassy area and gardens in the back are lovely. And you are staying in a historic landmark! Well worth the effort to get there.

This was our second stay .. first was back in 2018 in winter. Lovely to see all the beautiful flowers and enjoy the outdoor eating areas. Such a beautiful nostalgic old pub! Gave us a chuckle that the tvs haven’t changed since 2018!

This historic hotel is a treasure with beautiful landscaping and overflowing with flowers. The restaurant serves a big spectrum of food and drinks and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly and did everything they could to be accommodating. The room was tight but was cozy and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was huge and the towels wonderful. However it took a while for the water to get hot. This was one of our best stays in our 2 week visit of NZ and would love to return.

Very nice place with an excellent athmosphere

Love this hotel. First time we’ve stayed rather than visited for an afternoon. Highlight, apart from the gorgeous garden bar, is the food. Consistent quality. Rated every meal. Only thing I would love to see changed is having a breakfast service for in house guests rather than guests needing to order through at the bar. Coffee is also excellent.

This place is awesome! Accommodation, service and food was VERY good. Totally loved it and will recommend to all.

Wish I'd stayed here longer

We stayed at the Cardona for one night in Jan 2025 as part of a longer road trip. When driving up, this hotel can be mistaken for something smaller. But make no mistake, this hotel holds lots of charm and amenities that you don't find in a lot of places. In short, the Cardona has a lot of soul. From the bar, to the restaurant (food is amazing!), the hot tub, and a vegetable and herb garden. The room was also really clean and comfortable. It's truly a wonderful hotel that captures the charms of the area.

Lovely setting, fantastic staff, amazing place to stay.

The cottage gardens were a delight and an oasis and the pub staff were very nice. We had booked a family room for 4 of us which was located on the ground floor. The beds were clean and comfortable, the walls very thin and people above us walking could be heard. There was no microwave or fridge in the room (the only accomodation in our entire travels through NZ) not to have it, which was disappointing as we had bought cheese to take back home. When I asked they said they are a hotel and hence these facilities are not there… that was a real surprise. Milk provided was inadequate and we had to ask a couple of times for milk just to make 2 cups of tea a day. The showers were great however a curtain around the shower would be useful as the toilet and floor around the toilet was soaking wet each time we used the shower. Wifi was hit and miss. The hotel has a charming look and feel to it but I don’t think I would stay there again as it did not suit our type of travelling.

Absolutely loved our stay in the villa! The space is large, clean and modern - perfect for a family. Loved seeing the historical hotel/pub and dining at the restaurant. Also easy access to Wānaka and Queenstown.

Older property on the side of the road from Wanaka to Queenstown. Rooms were smaller but clean. Nice outdoor garden area and restaurant onsite.

Exceptional hotel! Wish we had stayed longer...

Despite our late arrival, the staff graciously offered us access to the hot tub after hours. Check-in was seamless. Our room was wonderfully comfortable, featuring remarkably solid doors that spoke to the historic character of this establishment. Everything about Cardrona Hotel impressed - from the stunning grounds and views to the exceptional restaurant, bakery, and shop. Our only disappointment was having such a short stay - we wished we could have extended our visit beyond one night.

Poor internet speed

Hubby and I stayed one night in Mid November 2024. Such a beautiful place to stay. Rooms are older but very comfortable. Not far from Wanaka or Queenstown. Price for the night was very reasonable and I would highly recommend staying here.

Wonderful stay and dinner at the Resturant. Definitely a highlight of our 18 day trip to NZ

Nice hotel but needs to improve service

Lovely hotel and pretty room. Food nice too but service average. Some staff not friendly nor helpful.

It is a must place to stay. You will love having a break fast or lunch or dinner. Especially the location of the Hotel is Unique & I really loved staying in the hotel & Beer garden at the back is so beautiful. You feel like you’re sitting in a Historic hotel.

Apartment was very well equipped and extremely comfortable. The hot pool in the apartment complex could have been cleaner.

It's a beautiful hotel in a lovely location. I highly recommend it. Would have loved to stay there more than one night. Would love it if there was a fridge and microwave in the room. The food in the bar was amazing, albeit a bit pricey.

Gorgeous gem of a property. So much history. Immaculately maintained. Some of the best food we’ve had on our trip. And a bonus hot tub!

The old charm of the place

Was a great stop over food in restaurant was amazing and chef was great!

This hotel is a hidden gem. It is quaint and charming, and actually delivers a unique experience to customers. It is only 15 mins out of Wanaka and you could drive past without noticing it. We stayed in the Captain's room hidden behind the hotel in a lovely garden area. The room was little but very cosy and beautifully quirky with little thoughtful touches. We indulged in the hot tub before our delicious dinner and enjoyed the view of the mountain peaks. Having stayed in other top rated hotels around the South Island, we cannot recommend this place more highly as it stands out as not just excellent value for money but also creating a lasting memory of somewhere very different in a world of uniform experiences.

Atmosphere and bar

Lovely old mining lodge turned hotel. Restaurant had amazing food but otherwise not much around. Reception was a little hard to find as we walk in through the restaurant not knowing which door to go through but once found all was well. Hot tub was a nice use after long day. Would recommend and stay again

We had a lovely stay at the hotel. Room and hotel cozy and menu great and staff very friendly.

This place was beautiful, the rooms were cosy, clean and comfortable. The scenery around was sensational and the pub did amazing food and had an incredible atmosphere. Definitely will be back to stay again.

Absolutely gorgeous boutique hotel right at the doorstep of Cardrona. Outstanding team to get you settled into your cozy room with dinner a few steps away in either the pub or restaurant .

Amazing place and beautifully rustic, wonderful friendly staff, and amazing food and ambience! We enjoyed our stay thoroughly.

Lovely atmosphere

it was so close to ski resort and very handy for family

We loved the Cardrona Hotel! It was a little respite in the middle of open country. The rooms were pretty basic and there was some hotel noise we could hear from our room, but the staff and food were fantastic! I loved the little garden courtyard in the middle and the fires burning both inside and outside were cozy! We saw two rabbits outside our window one morning, having a snack amid the flowers growing around the peripheral of the property. If we ever make it out that way again, we will definitely be back!

We had a great opportunity to catch up over a weekend while staying at Cardrona Hotel. Visited many times, but never stayed the night. This was a wonderful experience which definitely will be done more often. Kind regards, Thelma&Louise

Such a lovely place to stay, curl up by the fire, enjoy yummy food and glass of red 😋 staff are super friendly and helpful. Our room and bathroom were immaculately clean, warm and cosy. We really enjoyed the outdoor fire too!

Cardrona Hotel is an Historic pub that exceeded expectations. Isolated, good beer, good wine, good food. A great getaway.

Very nice historic property very well renovated with beautiful garden areas to enjoy while having a drink from the bar. Room did not have a fridge which can be an issue. very nice meals at restaurant. Cardrona does not have other dining facilities, but you can get bar snacks and meals without having to dine in the restaurant that is not really made known.

Lovely room, clean cosy, bath tub is fabulous staff are great., The mushroom risotto for dinner is really good. Would definitely stay again.

The way to go from Queenstown to Cardrona was up-down hills and so many curves. It was little scary but it is worth to stay and experience!

Favorite hotel of our trip!

We stayed here for our last night in NZ and it was the perfect end to our trip. Beautiful grounds and hotel! Staff were friendly and welcoming. All food was amazing- we ate dinner and breakfast there. My tip would be to get there early afternoon to enjoy the beer garden before your dinner reservation! We will be back for sure! Next time with the kids to utilize the very cute playground off to the right of the beer garden!

A thoroughly enjoyable stay at this unique property. Large comfortable rooms, excellent food and friendly staff. Cardrona is an experience not to be missed. We especially loved sitting outside in the sunny grass area on the bean bags and when it cooled moved to the indoor fire place for a meal.

Well, it is certainly quaint, different and thoughly appealing! We have driven past many times on visits to NZ, but never stayed here before. Now it's absolutely on our list, both to stay, and recommend.

Beautiful hotel close to Wanaka on the way to Christchurch.

Wonderful location, full of character, helpful staff, option of bar food or restaurant, reasonable prices, only slight criticisms are no air conditioning (not even a fan) and a (very) old tv! Overall an excellent stay though!!
