Views
If you can handle the drive up there, the views are out of this world. A fantastic place to stay.
Amazing views and sunset
Was a very quick stay as had to checkout very early due to some activities we had planed. Driving up around 9pm gave us some wonderful views and once we reached the top seen one the most spectacular sun sets we have ever seen! They guy helping us checkin was great and super friendly - I can imagine how popular this place would be during sky season.
Fantastic stay! I see why its got such a high rating
Amazing location. Great to be able to so easily access mountain accomodation and all that goes with it. Very comfortable rooms with all the lovely touches.
If you like colditz as a prison this is perfect for you - trapped on a mountain with nothing going on
location of the property and maintenance. Facilities were very good including NetFlix
The property is perfectly located in summer for those wanting to undertake walks or mountain biking. There's also the newly commenced gravel karts which were super fun. The biggest issues with the property are summed up in 2 points: 1. the beds are so soft it is ridiculous. We weren't sure if they were old, designed that way, or both. Either way, a crook/sore back is almost guaranteed each morning from the experience; and 2. the road up to Cardrona Alpine remains unsealed, and if ungraded (as was our fortune), then the corrugation is at its best, providing a slightly skittish and unnerving trip both up and down the 12km road each time you venture to/from the property. Overall, the staff were wonderful, super helpful. We enjoyed the location once there, even with the limited options for food and entertainment.
Like: Cleanliness. The property facilities. The location. Manily the staff, very friendly and treated us very well. Dislike: Life access would have been good. Still the staff helped us to move our luggages which is good.
Very nice place to stay.
Great challenge to drop up the gravel road on top off the mountain. All the staff very helpful and friendly.
Amazing views
Great spot to get away and stay in summer. Lovely staff Andy great rooms.
Great accommodation on ski field
Very different experience staying on a ski field and in the summer. We were able to use the chair lift to ride to the top of the field where there were amazing views. The apartment was comfortable and clean and cooking facilities. The field also had a restaurant and cafe.
They miss represent where the property is located. It is located 14 k off the main road up a very steep unpacked access road. If you have any fear of heights don't go.
Excellent facilities, staff exceptionally friendly
Loved the free ski lift pass and activities for summer months
Beautiful mountain resort
The Cardrona Alpine Resort was incredible. The views from the top of the mountain were amazing. The apartment was spacious and with the conveniences of home. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Terrible road, restaurant food was disappointing and the price of the cheapest wine pricey.
Wouldn’t have stayed had we know we had to drive 14km of unsealed rd up the mountain to get to the place. This very important information wasn’t mentioned.
Never stay in Queenstown again...
Amazing location, great staff, fab view, excellent restaurant, bargain price compared to Wanaka or Queenstown
Awesome stay!
The room was awesome, everything we needed and more. Very clean and free gondola ride thrown in. We will definitely be back!
Comfortable - Nice View........................................
Stars and dark night
Wonderful stargazing! Very quiet. Amazing view! Rough road to get there.
Nice view but a long way from the road
Out of season there is nothing open just a cafe we had not hot water as to apartments share the same hot tank so cold shower if the other apartment has used the washing machine or had a shower l mention this to the staff which they where they new about which is not something you expect in the 21st century and they had not clue how the washing machine worked to get our washing to go to a drying stage.
Great place
If it was that cool in the summer, i cannot wait to get back there in the winter!
Lovely place to stay
Great meal in the restaurant and very helpful and friendly staff. There was a fantastic view.
Great for skiers
It was a different experience in summer. First time it has been opened in summer for kart racing and mountain bikes. Great views. Scary access road. Basic accomodation, but best sleep as it was quiet and dark. Showers were terrible.
way up high
trip up daunting, being averse to heights, trip down a doddle
Great spot with friendly helpful staff, more than i expected for accommodation on a skifield. look forward to returning at some stage. Good food at the cafe/bar.
Excellent hotel with brand new interiors
Wonderful hotel to end a week of Queenstown activities. It is about 5-10 minutes to downtown Queenstown by car or about 30 minutes walking. Easy and free parking on a relatively steep initial entrance. The actual room itself was absolutely fantastic. Everything was brand new including the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. The girlfriend loved the bed comfort. The views were fantastic and it appears almost all the units have a great view given the hillside location. The only downside was having a fantastic new TV plugged into a very old DVD player with no HDMI or modern plugs, thus the DVD video and audio quality was terrible. Generally you are experiencing everything outside the hotel so this wasn't an issue til we had a rainy night in. Again, a very minor issue in comparison to lots of benefits.
Very enjoyable stay!
Really enjoyed our stay, but were a little disappointed with the limited walking tracks available on the mountain due to upgrade of chair lift.
We arrived quite late in the evening, but the staff member (Josie) was courteous and showed us to our room. Overall really enjoyed the stay.
Nice hotel
Should provide cable car to go up hill, should have varieties of food.
Great, but...
The accommodations were amazing, the only problem was that the website misled us on the conveince of staying there. The apartment was very high up a mountain and out of the way of everything. We weren't able to leave the apartment to do what we wanted to do because the road up the hill is very steep and dangerous so we were stranded up there. The only things on the hill were mountain biking trails and a single restaurant. The apartment was clean and spacious and lovely though.
Beds are extremely comfortable.
Arrived in fog, check in was warm and friendly. Apartment was clean and had extremely comortable beds, with plenty of fluffy towels. The national BMX cross country and downhill finals were being conducted on the mountain. Fresh milk provided and kitchen was equipped with basic requirements. Quality accommodation on top of a 13km drive up the mountain of switchbacks.
Very good price in low season!
I was looking where to stay with my family near Queenstown and Wanaka, and Cadrona was a very convenient option, very comfortable and good size of the apartment. We realy enjoy our stay.
It was really far from Queenstown
Ski field Apartment in the Summer
This is an Alpine Apartment at Cardrona Ski Field in the summer. Great views.Very nice basic ,comfortable apartment.Suited us fine.
Quite a drive up to the accommodation.
Beautiful scenery but it is along drive up to accommodation.
Great staff very accomodating, friendly.
Great views but well off the beaten track!
The highest hotel in New Zealand definitely provides great views but beware of the long unsealed road to get there. Located quite far out of Wanaka and Queenstown so be sure to stock up on supplies or eat out before you head up. We had the cooked breakfast which was a bit disappointing - no tea/coffee/juice/cereal/toast. We were also misquoted the price of breakfast when booking so ended up paying more as we did not have breakfast supplies with us. If you want to make the most of the location and hike up to the top of the mountain make sure you allow time to do this outside of the slope opening hours. We were surprised that the cost of the accommodation did not incorporate access to the mountain. When the slope is open with chair lifts running it costs $25. The accommodation was clean and the staff were friendly but overall we did not feel that it was good value for money. It is perhaps more appealing to mountain biking enthusiasts who can make the most of the mountain facilities.
Food was ordinary
Hotel accommodation great, Only negative was the quality of the food in the restaurant/café - very ordinary and costly
Modern, clean and spacious
It's one night short stay at Cardrana Apline Appartments. It's a lots of funs to take some amazing photos at the top of Cardrona. The staff are helpful and responsive when needed. Overall, it's a wonderful short stay there.
Hotel on top of a mountain
Booked at the last minute and only Accomodation available in the area. It is 14 km up a gravel track from the main road but is definitely worth it for the view and excellent facilities.
Cardrona Accommodation
Said to be the highest hotel in New Zealand as it is part of the Cardrona Ski Fields at the top of the mountain so the 360 degree views were breath-taking. EVERYTHING about the place was top quality and made for a very comfortable stay. The trip up the mountain gravel road was long and winding and a tad perilous as there are no barriers to stop a vehicle from going over the side, however the rewards are well worth the trip!
Cardrona Alpine Apartments
A tedious off road drive but worth it. The views amazing. Staff happy & helpful. A quiet, relaxed and beautiful summer stay. Room v well equipped with everything you could wish for. Washing machine/dryer, kitchen, dining area & 2 bedrooms. Big enough for family of 5 with plenty of storage. Take your own food or eat in Wanaka before staying overnight. The evening meal was limited & expensive but looked good. Riding on the mountain was amazing. Fantastic stay. The cafe's day menu was limited but the food was very good.
Great experience
Great service made to feel really welcome. Could do with fan or air con in unit.
Great staff very helpful nice food had a nice stay
Waking up on top of the clouds!
This is a ski resort but used for biking and hiking in the summer. It is 13 kilometers on a gravel road but we drove up it easily. The room was beautiful and we had a washer and dryer in our room which was handy. There is a restaurant on site which had some great take away food. We ordered the pizza and lasagna. The best thing about this location is the elevation and the unbelievably beautiful views. This was a hidden treasure we just happened above.
It took a while get up the road but well worth it!
Something different
This is an alpine resort and claims to be the highest hotel in NZ. It has fantastic views and is definitely out of the ordinary. On site cafe and friendly staff plus facilities for self catering. Has an adventure feel to it. Beware the 14km steep gravel entry road which is not for the faint hearted. The main road signage is red and says Cardrona Alpine Resort
Awesome hotel at the top of Mt Cardrona
Awesome service. Arrive late (10pm) but there was someone there to meet us.

Really unique and high quality stay!
We booked this hotel last minute (day before stay) as a stop between Aoraki and Te Anau (we didn’t want to stop in Queenstown). Unfortunately the weather was awful with rain and gale force winds. The staff at the hotel were amazing at communicating the conditions, including letting us know in advance that the restaurants at Cardrona would all be closed. They encouraged us to pick up groceries before heading up to the hotel. Drive up to the hotel: as many other reviewers have mentioned, the road is unpaved and quite steep at some parts. In addition to the poor weather conditions with very poor visibility, it was a slow and careful drive up. We stayed in the studio and it was perfect! Very clean, practical, with excellent quality furnishing. We really loved this place. The weather cleared beautifully the next day and the drive back down the mountain was breathtaking.
