Everyone was nice and spoke English, if you like walking you can literally walk to the Vatican City and then to downtown Rome from this hotel
Nice hotel to stay
Family of 4 from Canada... beautiful, spacious, modern rooms. A lovely pool. Excellent air conditioning which was appreciated in the middle of summer! Very comfortable beds/bedding! Had wonderful live evening entertainment in their patio restaurant but the food wasn't up to par so, recommend eating off the property. All the front desk staff were very pleasant with excellent English which was helpful for getting assistance with directions, etc. Would stay here again.
Perfect for family. Pool was needed during the heat wave of 2023. Rooftop bar looking over to St. Peter’s was class. Loved our stay.
It was a great property just a little far away from shops and restaurants.
Everything including the breakfast spread was amazing hotel staff was truly exceptional and very helpful and informative...
Nice Hotel
Nice hotel lovely rooms. Mine was in need of some TLC (the bathroom had a damaged extractor fan switch). Only one English TV channel. Breakfast, plenty of choice of sweet, cereals, bread, fruit and savoury items. Dinner menu is small but great choice and not rushed. Cab service from the hotel was totally unexpected a "Black Car" an E Class Mercedes, smooth drive back to Fiumicino.
Impossible to communicate with this property. I tried to email, message through their number on their site, and use Expedia- no response.
Rooms are small, pool hours during summer are short. When people return from a hot day of exploring they cannot use pool. Staff at pool not friendly at all.
Good hotel, Good localisation but needs to be renovated
Check in and services at the front desk really good. Bus station close and other stores. Really good service to go back to the airport. however very old hotel. Need updates and repair. Breakfast not really good.
MOULD
Our room was full of mould and had a permanent damp smell. Mould was in the room and in the bathroom. No ventilation, did not feel well being in this room. Would not recommend.
Hotel staff went out of their way to not let me check in until 3 pm even though one staff member made it clear my room was being cleaned and ready two hours earlier. Lots of noise from the hallways could be heard in my room and I had ants in my room… definitely wouldn’t stay there again by choice!
Terrible from the beginning.
There was no electric kettle in the room at arrival but was provided after request. Unfortunately there was no A/C facility in the room and has no ceiling fan either which was not comfortable on such hot days. Otherwise everything was good.
All the staff were amazing, so helpful and friendly always trying to help, beakfast had a nice selection of cake, but the restaurant in the evening was quite expensive, but our food wasn’t actually very edible, but rooms were big and it looked lovely as we came in
Very good
Excellent
Great stay parking with trailer was ideal
Great stay. I had dog and trailer and hard to find place good for both.
There are rooms facing the courtyard eating area with mirrored glass so people can't see inside. However we were not told this and felt uncomfortable. They changed rooms to one above where bins were collected at 5am. They we were moved to another room... in front of the swimming pool, no privacy and lots of noise. No one tells you of these things! Check wha tyou are getting. Breakfast food OK, we spent a lot of time out of here touring Rome.
Room was non functional. Air conditioner did not stop working bringing room temperature to the dangerous level. Toilet did not flush. Personnel were arrogant and careless. Surprisingly unpleasant experience. Look for room somewhere else. It’s way too expensive for nothing.
Furniture was old, need renovation. Ladies at reception was friendly but Two gentlemen at reception were always nervous, and not friendly. Would not go again.
First time in Italia
Staff was very friendly and willing to help. Loved the shuttle service.
Front desk was extremely helpful, rooftop bar, pool and balcony were great. Restaurant wasn't great for dinner -- price, food and staff. Location was pretty inconvenient -- needed to take taxis to/from everything.
Even though each room has a thermostat, the front desk actually controls the temperature in each room. They seem to randomly change it and don’t react well to a request to adjust the setting. I had stayed here twice in one trip with time in between. My room was hot during my second stay and I asked for it to be adjusted. The guy tried in his computer and said it was done. I happen to know from my stay earlier in the week that the only computer controlling the HVAC is at the other end of the counter and you have to get up to make the change. Our friends (in a group of 8 - 4 rooms) all had similar problems. Other than that, it’s a pretty nice property in a good location. Prepare to sweat while you sleep or freeze to death though.
We are not totally happy with our stay. Some of the staff are friendly and some are outright rude. A lot of the fixtures in the bathroom were ill fitted and loose. Kettle does not work properly and some of the sockets don't work either. It is not sound proofed and it is very noisy. Way overpriced and does not deserve 4 stars.
Good value for money
Good location, slightly dated in parts but immaculately clean with great facilities. Good value for money.
Not a 4 star quality hotel. No kettle in the room even basic budget hotels have a kettle to make a drink. Disappointing that the pool closes early after being out through the day it would be good to be able to go into the pool later. Bad food menu only 1 vegetarian option. wouldn’t recommend this hotel.
Easy access to center just one bus to take and 10 min on it. Staff very helpfull provided maps and what buses to take.
Lovely pool and area to cool off in on hot days. Overall comfortable and enjoyable. Location makes a taxi ride a requirement to get to a number of key central Rome sites
Great place to stay. 1 bus ride to downtown. Pool was decent breakfast was pretty good except the expresso. Not too much around the neighborhood but fairly easy to get downtown in 15-20 min. Did find a couple of bugs in the room also.
If traveling in Summer, the pool is worth it's weight in gold. It was clean and well maintained. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. We stayed in a Superior room with balcony. The room was comfortable with a good firm mattress. The bathroom was excellent. The ample balcony was delicious at night and necessary for a good cell signal. I advise not to eat in the restaurant. The neighborhood was perfect. Plenty of shops and restaurants with normal working class prices. Taxi rides to almost anywhere in the city are between 10 and 15 euros. This is not a four star hotel as it is a bit worn but is an excellent value.
Breakfast served free at the hotel but we were told that our breakfast were not included. They will charge 15$/person. The policy was not clear.
The hotel is located in the outskirts of Rome and 15 -30 minutes by taxi depending on the traffic. If you are just looking for a comfortable bed to sleep on with good airconditioning and a bathroom and a toilet this place would do. But if you're like me who would like to have the small comfort of having a cup of tea in the room after you wake up or in the afternoon this is not the place for you. And there is no way you could get even a snack after 2.30 in the afternoon till early evening as the restaurant isn't open and the bar only serves liquor that is only if you are lucky enough to find the barman. The same dilemma after 9.30pm. Despite our pleas for a kettle we were rudly dismissed as we were in a standard room and not a superior room. My offer to pay and upgrade to a superior room was also not successful apparently because no rooms were available. Interestingly a kettle with teapot and mugs arrived instantly after I related my experience to our tour group director. In summary an ok hotel but poorly managed.
I liked the great view on the fifth floor. I also liked the breakfast. The selection was pretty ok.
Hotel Cardinal was easy to access from many areas by Uber or public buses. A very clean and spacious rooms
Staff are friendly & very welcoming & helpful. They work hard . Enjoyed the pool & terrace. The hotel could do with renovation as is getting old & dated. Locationis good for the Vatican & Colosseum etc There is a hotel shuttle service. We used the metro & bus to get around quite easily & also taxi.
Disappointing
Very disappointing room, terrible drains and pipe view. No balcony and no tea or coffee making facilities.
Overall happy with stay. Swimming pool not open was a disappointment. Said online when booking would open 1st May and it didn’t.
It was a pleasure to be in your Hotel the cleaning and the food was amazing keep doing the same great service Thank You
Amazing hotels. Amazing staff.
Okey dokey
Hotel room was clean and comfortable, staff weren't overly friendly, hotel bar lacked any atmosphere or warmth. Pool was closed, maintenance work, roof terrace closed till May ?, despite the warm weather 18 ° 20° ?. Breakfast choices were ok, but restaurant was over priced. Hotel location is a little run down, but its only a ten minute bus ride to city centre, local buses are regular. Be careful late at night....
The view I got from my window Vatican very nice my stay was so go and pleasant I will probably return soo.
Nice comfy room. Affordable and lounge room staff very polite friendly and attentive
Good location, very comfortable. Staff was very helpful.
Not the best location
Hotel needs improvement as a few things including the plugs in our room were broken. The staff kept telling me I had to pay more because of my allergies for getting some eggs made separate for breakfast, obviously I argued my point. There should have been a kettle in the room but there wasn’t, when they brought one it was broken. Staff could have been a bit more friendly if I’m honest, some were trying. They had a shuttle service for one Euro per person but depending on who was on reception would mean that it may or may not run a certain times so very confusing and the service stopped by 7(ish) which meant you could never use it in the evening. We had to pay for taxis to and from the hotel as it wasn’t safe for us to walk to the metro stations so that was an unexpected cost. We would have moved if it wouldn’t have cost us to move but they refused to cancel our room without charge.
Great hotel
Great visit to this hotel. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the hotel was clean and comfortable. It's a bit outside the main area but easy to walk or taxi to all the sights. I would definitely stay again. The one downside is that the pool and Jacuzzis close pretty early. If they opened until later it would be perfect!
Nice hotel, not a great area.
Nice hotel, not a great area but near the main bus routes and walking distance to Vatican City.
Perfect hotel in perfect location
Perfect hotel in perfect location. Only 20 mins walk to Vatican City. Hotel has excellent pool (maybe a little cold) for cooling off before going into the hot city. Also has a gorgeous roof terrace with jacuzzi's looking over St Peter's dome. All staff (apart from 1) very helpful and friendly. Would definately recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing time away from the bustle of this beautiful city. Hope to return very soon
Bellissimo!
The staff were fabulous, room very comfortable, pool fabulous after very hot days exploring, food delicious! What more could you ask for!
MaryC
No ice machines, had to go to the bar for ice and after a couple trips to it the bartender wasn't very happy. It was 93 degrees and 74% humidity!
Not 4 stars any more.
Not a 4 Star hotel by any stretch. Nearly every wall socket in our room was either loose or not working. The bath was chipped in multiple places. The shower temperature was extremely unstable. The fridge for the minibar switched off when the room key was removed, not that it mattered because it didn't cool anything even when it was connected to power. The pool had a permanent ring of grime around the edge. Nearly every lounger at the pool needed some form of maintenance. This hotel would have been nice 20 years ago but a lot of attention is required to bring it back up to date.
Nice hotel
We really enjoyed our trip to Rome and a nice hotel to come back to after so much walking was fantastic. The room was nice, staff were polite and it was convienant for local transport into the centre. The rooftop terrace was amazing too very relaxing and hot tubs were a bonus just a shame one wasn’t working so had to wait a bit if you wanted to use it.
Great service
The hotel is a little bit far from the main main attractions (but access to the public transportation is ok), but it has a good price and excellent service.
Old worn out hotel - just average 3 star old hotel
This is a very old and worn out property - they keep showing the 4 stars in all their signboards but this actually feels just like an old 3 star property with hardly and hotel staff around.. so u have to fend for yourself... and if u have a child (u will then get a room for 3 with 1 double bed and 1 sofa bed) and these rooms allocated have a horrible view which looks into a concrete high wall of the neighbouring property which is around 20 or 30 feet high... so its just terrible.. thats all we saw out of the balcony.. the front desk staff are not helpful at all... very business-like and they wont try and help out at all.. i had clearly booked a room with a good view (as promised on the website) but got this horrible and ghastly view and the front desk wod not even listen to what i had to say.. so i just gave up and endured this old hotel.. there is a rubbish restaurant which looks very aristocratic and very expensive but serves horrible food - have never tasted or had such bad salads in my life - so its memorable for all the wrong reasons... i would think this hotel is avoidable.. even the closest bus stop is more than a kilometer away... and the city centre is more than a 30 minute walk if one attempts it...
Watch your personal belongings
Overall the hotel was good. View from the roof terrace an pools was beautiful. Downside was that someone from the housekeeping team stole a pair of my trainers.
Pool and jet tubs close too early. Main waiter at restaurant wasn't very polite, but everyone else was good. Especially the rooftop bartender.
A short bus ride to Vatican city and other attract
This was my second stay in Rome and like many tourist areas, the price of lodging can be quite high. I felt the Cardinal St Peter was a great value and was comfortable-with the exception of the pillows which were pretty flat- but the staff was wonderful. The pictures on the website were definitely staged to enhance the appearance, but it was still pretty nice. There is a breakfast included which is not bad and the lication is in walking distance of multiple public transit ootions. The rooftop area is quite nice and there is a pool but it was too chilly for us to try near the end of May. We got the economy room which was small but comfortable. If i stayed again i would probably upgrade to a delux room. Overall I was happy
The whether didn't help, but I expected the room to be 25 sq metres as advertised, which wasn't the case.
Sara at desk was extremely helpful!!
Needs a bit of TLC
Although the majority of areas were clean and tidy there were a few things that could be improved and it's not a 4 star hotel. The supposedly clean towels were either dirty with stains on or had holes in them The bathroom light wouldn't turn off The bathroom needed a repaint as the paint was falling off the walls / ceiling. The mirror in the bathroom needed replacing The view was shocking especially after seeing the lovely view advertising this hotel one of the reasons we chose it, We didn't appreciate the concrete and weeds we had as our view. Lovely wardrobe and loads of space, but no coat hangers and the shelves were full of dust. As long as you are happy with the same food every day the breakfast is perfect. Staff were friendly and check in was quick. Staff were also helpful in explaining about getting to the centre of Rome.
Hotel was loud.
Many disappointing things about the hotel. It was located in a sketchy area. The hotel staff only talked and would not listen. The power in the room is only on when you are in the room. The hotel was very loud until around 12pm every night. Dinner outside as really weird. Our waitress stood 10ft from us the entire time we were eating and just stared at us.
Very highly recommended
Wonderful stay, within walking distance of the amazing history of Rome
Nice hotel good location
This hotel was chosen for its location and the fact it had a swimming pool so we could have some tourist days and relaxing days. We were a bit disappointed that the pool closed at 6pm so we couldn't jump in after a hot day sight seeing. The breakfast was quite good, but there was no decaf coffee readily available, I had to ask for it but the waitress soon recognised me and automatically got it for me.
Best of both worlds but take your own food!
An overall good experience and super to find a hotel so close to the city with a pool and roof terrace with plunge pool. The triple room was large and airy and nice bathrooms but the food was well below par for 4stars. We ate in the restaurant on arrival which was mediocre at best and quite expensive for the quality, but it was the breakfast which was a bit grim. We envisaged platters of fresh fruit but got three bowls of cheap tinned - pineapple, that weird mixed fruit salad that grannies served in the 70's and I can't remember the third but it was not good and not even cold! The bread selection was cheap and the coffee machine worse that a uk service station. With three meagre choices of cereal which all were nasty we pretty much tried it twice then didn't even bother on the other days which was a shame as we chose room n breakfast to set us up for the day but had to eat out but hey ho it was a relatively small price to pay. We got taxis into city at 15€ each way but my teenage daughters enjoyed the pool aspect to complement the city trips which was cool. I wish I could get my hands on this hotel to affect a turnaround and make it really special with great service I'm sure I could make it lots more money as the roof terrace is massively under-utilised offering no drinks during the day and one surly barman devoid of personality at night but the receptionist team were good, most of the staff were helpful but didn't really understand English which was ok
Great pool facilities given the location. Not as enjoyable when very busy with limited access to the rooftop pools. Nice rooms. Friendly staff.
Lovely hotel.
Great hotel just on the edge of the main attractions. Modern and clean with excellent staff. Pool was a great facility after a hard days sightseeing. Although the bus ride into the center of town took only 15 mins it was the ride from hell; infrequent, overcrowded and unreliable. But hey, when in Rome!
Quiet with great amenities
Comfy and friendly hotel, only a couple of stops on the bus from Rome city center but loved the peace and quiet
Very average hotel, seen better days
Just very average. A bit tatty. Didn't get the impression that the staff were too bothered about their guests. Good views from roof terrace though.
very nice hotel as we expected + swimming pool
No vegetarian choice for Breakfast-was not too good & the staff at the breakfast was very roud. Hotel was exactly same as shown on expedia website but where our room was located, the view from there was very bad but other rooms were facing swimming pool or outside ! The staff at the hotel were very co operative and humble. The room cleaning staff was very good and polite too ! Staff at the reception were awesome with many informations about the places around. The swimming pool was very clean and quiet. The public transport was very handy from the hotel to go to the city centre. Mc Donalds is around and a small super market is around the hotel too to pick up your water bottles and few day to day things. Very nice pizza place opp mc donalds for take away dinners I would recommend this hotel to someone who is no too aware of the city.
Mama Mia! almost a 3 star hotel!
A bit out of the way, the service was almost satisfactory, maybe a little adverse to english speaking customers, The restaurant food was OK but pricey for what you got, unfortunately resources were slim and the service reflected that. WI FI average when you actually got on to it.. Breakfast was poor and service similar!
Pleasant Hotel with pool.
the room was clean but needed some updating in some areas. There were days things that should have been done in the room were not and had to be asked for.
Honeymoon
Nice clean friendly hotel good pool to relax in after a busy day exploring. Metro station was a good 15min walk away bit of a hike with a suitcase in the heat.Vatican is within walking distance so is lots of very reasonable local restaurants. Breakfast had a good selection all fresh. Overall good value for money in Rome if you don't mind walking a bit.
A pleasant stay
Nice hotel and very welcoming. A good family room for four made up for a poor view of a concrete wall, however the pool and roof terrace provided nice places to sit and relax outside. The locality provided some excellent alternatives to eat.
Lovely room, staff and pool!
Very nice hotel and convenient with the pool, we had some good relaxing days there! Even though we stayed on the Ground floor didn't have any issues with noise or anything. Bus stops are close by and metro train is probably 10-15min walk but easy to get around from there. Air conditioning was controlled by the Reception desk though and not in the room, so one night it turned on in the middle of the night and it was COLD my hubby got a cold from it!! So make sure if you don't like the really cold air conditioning like us to keep an eye on that.. Breakfast was okay, not hot hot food but if you're not fussy about food you'll be okay.. overall staff were really nice and helpful and friendly and the room and bathroom were really nice. We had a £50 off voucher so paid around £460 for 5 nights and it was a lovely place to stay, would definitely recommend!!
Quiet Hotel for Tired Travelers
Great hotel! Off the main road, but worth it. Very quiet and roomy. Not far from Vatican City.
Location is ideal for bus routes into the city
The hotel staff were amazingly helpful and friendly and made sure our first stay in Rome was a memorable one and we will definitely be back. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and well equipped with the exception of a kettle which was a little bit disappointing but didn't make a huge difference to us. The breakfasts are fresh with plenty of choice and very, very good coffee available. The hotel is a few hundred yards away from the main bus route into town which takes about 15-20 minutes; the buses can be crowded at peak times so be prepared to stand and hold on! Overall, we were delighted with the standard of service at the Cardinal hotel and would happily recommend it to anyone visiting this beautiful city.
Nice hotel but in a poor area and over priced food
The room was lovely and the view was excellent but it was in a rough area with no restaurants around meaning we had to eat in the hotel and the food was very over priced for what you got.
Too far from the center nothing like the pics too pricey for the quality of room and location it was like the indian motels in the states for a 4 star price
Pleasant but tired.
Hotel was pleasant but tired. Paint coming off room walls and ceilings. Light bulbs not working. Tired bathroom but good shower water pressure. No coffee machine ?? In Italy ? Famous for their coffee. Doesn't make sense. Swimming pool again was pleasant but tired. Green algae above the water line. Staff were good and the food was fine.
the beds were hard the only good thing was the male night attendant at the desk was helpful and friendly it took two days for them to send an iron up to the room
Nice hotel Can be more organized from checkin staf
When arrived booked room with balcony, but given non balcony room couldn't accommodate that evening, had to wait till next day, but given free meal - drinks to compensate, hotel staff very friendly, struggled to give directions on how to get around, pool area very clean organised, taxi handy to get around- Vatican City 15 mins walk overall very nice hotel.
Wonderful staff.
Staff were wonderful. Very friendly and most were multi lingual. Hotel lovely and room cleaned with clean sheets everyday. Restaurant fabulous again staff were lovely. Would go back again. Blonde receptionist (sorry can't remember her name)was especially lovely especially on check in when we were exhausted.
Nice hotel, very clean and has a lovely pool.
Very pleasant stay and pool made it very relaxing. Food quality and service at dinner not fantastic - better off eating out. The house salad (St Peter's) is the exception.
Ok if you want to be close to the Vatican
The maintenance man helped us fix our stroller when it was broken very sweet of him however the hotel was very far away from old town Rome. The first two days we were there the power was out three times
Good stay
Everything was good except for the AC. Even after complaining about it, didn't work for 4 nights of our stay.
Hotel is far from main attractions. Best way to get around is to take a taxi and tell them to drop you off by the Vatican. It should cost you around 8 to13 euros.
Nice hotel but away from city centre and metro
All was well apart from being away from the city centre and the nearest metro being 15 mins away via a set of stairs and steep hill. Ok if you can decifer the bus routes. Rooms and all other areas very clean. Good breakfast choice. Small swimming pool open during the hot weather.
Great hotel
The hotel was lovely and clea , all staff were extremely helpful, the hotel was close to bus stop for all main attractions which made it easy to travel around the city. Room was a little small but was fine for a 4 night stay. Would recommend and would definitely return to this hotel,
Short stay for sightseeing
I had very pleasant experience, despite it was a short stay. The staff was very polite and helped me with my requests, to accommodate my stay. The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable. The place is in quiet area, close to the Vatican (approx. 30 minutes of walking).
You could hear other people's toilets through the wall i.e flushing etc
Could have been more accomodating
Nice hotel but we had two problems. (1) we had requested three single beds but got a rollaway for our grandson who is 26, 6'3 tall. He was miserable sleeping in that small bed. We requested a change many times but nothing was done. We would like 1/3 of the charge refunded to us. (2) My husband called everyday from Los Angeles but the phone in the room was not working so we could not get connected. They need to fix their phone system. Other than that the hotel is close to the Vatican. The staff is friendly and breakfast good.
Lights that did not work. Staff was not helpful. Short of towels and soap. Outside bar - no change in till to be able to buy drink. Only open 1 night of the 4 we were there. Was not clean. Power out in our room one night - husband has CPAP machine needed for sleep. Very poor location. Pool and hot tubs in bad condition. Food was cold
Good service, quites rooms, need to take bus/metro
The hotel is close to Vatican; however, you have to take bus+metro or walk for about 10 minutes to the metro station to go to the city. It is not hard to commute but I strongly suggest that the hotel provides each guest a single transit ticket (only $1.5) so they can easily hop on the bus cause is takes a while to go the ticket store, get the tickets and come back to the station. In this case, guests can easily buy their own tickets from the metro stations. We had our own rental car, but preferred public transit and suggest it to all visiting Rome as well.
Good friendly staff
Very enjoyable stay. The dining staff are very good and friendly. Pool services are very good as the weather was sooo hot.
Summer holiday with 2 kids age 12 and 15
Lovely hotel, clean, good facilities. Buffet breakfast fabulous and plenty of it. Restaurant good, a little pricey but Rome generally is! Pool clean, few more sunbeds wouldn't go a miss. 15 - 20 minute bus ride into the city, easy to use bus system and cheap. Would recommend and use again.
Budget Friendly Hotel
A great place to stay if you're a budget traveler who likes a step up. We stayed here for 3 nights and were satisfied. Hotel rooms show some wear, but rooms are overall very comfortable. The hotel roof-top deck is amazing! It has 3 hot tubs with a view overlooking the lush green city and the Vatican dome. The hot tubs were unheated, which was disappointing, but the view was amazing! The pool area and bar area are also very nice. The hotel breakfast was a little disappointing. Definitely not the best i've had in Europe. The hotel is a cheap 10-15 euro cab ride from St. Peter's square and the Trastevere neighborhood.
Cardinal Hotel St. Peter | Hotel in Rome | Travala.com
The rooms are underwhelming, and the amenities feel outdated. For the price, I expected much better quality. It’s just okay, but I wouldn’t stay here again.
