Wonderful Bed & Breakfast
My daughter and I loved Freeport, ME, and Connie was a wonderful host at Candlebay Inn.
Comfortable bed. Very friendly people. Quaint atmosphere.
Thank you to the inn keeper Connie and her family for a wonderful taste of New England hospitality. Hopefully I'll get to come back and visit again The inn is clean and well taken care of even though the house was built in 1848. Breakfast chats with other guests and the inn keeper was a highlight of the stay. Would highly recommend!
Great location!
We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful inn. Connie was very helpful and easy to reach with questions. She gave us a choice on what we wanted for breakfast and it was delicious. We felt like we had gone back in time and could see that it was well maintained. It's just 2 blocks to LL Bean, so we could walk to it and many other stores and restaurants. Great stay!
Was just a pleasure from check in to check out. A quiet and clean room which was beautiful. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Highly recommended
The history
What a nice place to stay. The history of this place is incredible.
Warm, friendly atomsphere
Connie was a fantastic hostess. Great breakfast. Would love to return!
Nice small town family like facility .
Candlebay Inn
Room was nice and clean. Breakfast was good. The only downside was the bathroom shower was extremely small. A joke was even made about not dropping the soap. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. Nice stay.
Connie went out of her way to make sure every thing was perfect. Great breakfast.
Loved our stay. The bed was so comfortable and the breakfast was the best I’ve had in a long time. My husband struggled a little with the angled ceiling and lower shower rod due to his height.
We enjoyed our stay at Candlebay Inn. It was a very pleasant room and the breakfast was excellent.
This is an old house converted to a B&B type Inn. It is quaint and charming - filled with east coast decor. The rooms are very comfortable, albeit small. The beds were comfy and the the space was very clean. We stayed 2 nights. Breakfast was great and served at communal tables in the dinner room. If you have mobility or accessibility needs, I recommend you share before booking. Connie, the Innkeeper is warm, inviting and very accommodating. The location is great - very walkable to the village for shopping and restos. We would not hesitate to book again.
Great experience
An excellent location and the host is lovely.
Connie was a wonderful host. The b&b was in a historic house in a very quiet location.
Good Stay at Candlebay
We had a good stay at the inn. Easy to walk into town. Breakfast was great!
A comfortable home
Very comfortable and host gladly accommodated my late arrival and special dietary needs.
Very accommodating, everything we needed was there. Connie and here daughter were great!
Friendly host, beautiful property with clean, comfy rooms, tasty breakfasts and perfect location to wander around town
This is a quintessential 19th century historical B&B. It was just what we wanted for our daughter-in-law’s first visit to Maine. Our hosts were very accommodating, and our breakfast of wild Maine blueberry French toast with maple syrup was delicious.
A great bed and breakfast place to stay in Freeport, ME.
We were shocked at the prices for hotels in Portland (in my opinion a way, overrated town) so we stayed here primarily because of price. But it's a nice gem worth considering. Room was comfortable. Breakfast nice. Host welcoming. And walking distance to the Freeport outlets and across from that now-famous McDonald's located in a historic house. Definitely eat at the Jameson Tavern (walking). One of the best burgers we've had, great fries too. (If you are tired of lobster and high prices).
Very friendly host. The Inn is lovely.
This is a historic bed and breakfast in a lovely residential area only a block from the business district in Freeport. The host, Connie, was very pleasant and accommodating. The breakfast was absolutely delicious! I was here 2 nights in different rooms, one upstairs, one downstairs. Both were very comfortable, clean, and quiet. I would also say the value far exceeded what you could get at any hotel. I was very pleased to stay here.
What a quaint inn! Connie was so friendly and attentive. Breakfast was delicious. We will definitely be back and bring our dogs next time!
Do not pass on this gem. I had a great, relaxing, enjoyable visit. Connie is a luv. She is so personable and will make sure you are happy. The room was beautiful and I don’t think I have ever slept in a more comfortable bed. Breakfast was hot and delicious. I will absolutely be back. Thank you, Connie.
The owner is very personable and met me at the front door. Very charming and quaint B&B. Location is great and walkable to everything in town.
We really enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was very good and we enjoyed our conversations with other guests. Our host was present and made herself available if any issues came up. An easy walk to LL Bean and other shopping as well as dinner
Great breakfast and hostess!
Went above and beyond my expectations. Clean, beautiful, and comfortable - and with such a kind and generous host. Trains and buses to Boston are less than a 10-min walk away. Would stay here again, 10/10!
It's a home feeling being away from home. People are so friendly that we feel great about staying there. From the very first step in to the property to the last step out of the property we feel like those people are known to us for a long time. Foods are excellent. Hats off to the house Mother for making us feel that way. We strongly recommend that place to every one to consider. I'll be looking forward to visit it in near future.
Beautiful Historic Bed and Breakfast Recommend
Wonderful 3 day stay! Warm and friendly Host! Charming room, very clean and very quiet. Delicious breakfast and different each day. Fresh baked cookies and cold water bottles available and little snacks in your room. The location is perfect, close to all the shops and restaurants. 20 minute ride to Portland. Lots to do. Will definitely go back. Highly recommend!
Third time staying here. Great B&B in a 1800's ship captain's home. Great breakfast and hospitality well within walking distance of shopping. We will be booking again.
We had the most wonderful stay in Freeport and the Candlebay Inn took it to the next level. Everything was exceptional and made our visit to Freeport more memorable than any visit previous to the area. The inn-keeper (Connie) was so welcoming and made it her mission to ensure our stay was perfect. Hot breakfast was prepared special to our liking and served at the time most convenient to our schedule. We will definitely be making Candlebay a constant in our visits to Southern Maine.
Very comfortable bed in a very clean room. Our host Connie very friendly, providing a delicious breakfast. Would return another time.
quick getaway
we were looking for a close by getaway where we could bring our dog. this place was perfect. very quaint antique home with all the modern day amenities. Bed was very comfortable, host was friendly and gracious and the breakfast was delicious.
A great inn walkable to shopping and Connie is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great and the coffee was good. Would go back again.
Beautiful old house. Well kept and comfortable. Owner informative and friendly.
Would stay in this charming, clean and comfortable b&b again without hesitation
Friendly host, very clean, & delicious breakfast!
Cute BnB in Freeport, only 15 min drive to Portland and very walkable. The host and staff are super friendly, the place is very clean, and the building has a lot of character. We loved it and the breakfast was delicious! We will certainly go back and recommend others to stay!
Great location in an historic house. Friendly and clean. Excellent breakfast.
We had a wonderful stay here. It is so well located to exploring Freeport shopping and dining. The breakfasts were delicious! The only reason we rated our visit 4 stars is actually on us. This is an old house with steep steps and no elevator. We did not think to ask for a first floor room. We will return and stay on the first floor next time.
Candlebay Stay
Nice B&B, friendly host and wonderful atmosphere. Breakfast was wonderful. LL Bean a few minutes away was a bonus!
Fabulous breskfast
Can't do better
Wonderful place. Close to town. Friendly comfortable and quiet. Perfect place
Candlebay Inn, Freeport, Maine
This is the second time we've stayed at Candlebay Inn. We love it ! It is welcoming, cozy and clean. The homemade breakfast is a delight. We could stay closer to our destination but choose to travel an extra 20 minutes to Candlebay Inn. I'll
A gem in Maine
Connie, our innkeeper, was the best! Everyday the breakfast was delicious! The morning conversations with the other guests was always enlightening. This is a dog friendly establishment, but you would never know it. I highly recommend Candlebay Inn.
Quaint NE B&B
This was exactly what we wanted in a quaint New England village! The home was built in the 1880's I believe and reminds me of my Grandma's house! Connie was an excellent host and we would definitely recommend this property. The breakfast was delicious and she was always available.
The Candlebay Inn was very comfortable and the breakfast was very delicious.
The breakfast was delicious!! Friendly and helpful host
We had an excellent last minute stay at the Candlebay Inn. Our room was cozy, clean, and quiet. The property is walking distance to downtown Freeport and a quick drive away from Portland. Connie was a friendly and helpful host. We highly recommend Candlebay Inn.
As the innkeeper herself said, this is not a deluxe property. But if you’re looking for a place within easy walking distance of Freeport attractions with a friendly, knowledgeable innkeeper, and, truly fantastic breakfasts, this is the place for you. If we’re ever in Freeport again, we’ll stay at the Candlebay Inn.
Very convenient, everything was in walking distance.
Perfect accommodations, and host thoughtfully provided lots of extras for the guests. Also, just a safe, pleasant 3-block walk to LL Bean and surrounding shops and restaurants.
Charming New England Inn
We felt welcomed by the homelike atmosphere of the Candlebay Inn. The innkeeper, Connie, was engaging and helpful. The breakfasts were delicious with fresh coffee available well before breakfast time.
Charming and welcoming
Owner was on hand to welcome us to this heritage property. Beautiful setting within easy walking distance of LLBesn and shops. Lovely breakfast. We would definitely stay here agsin.
Close to all but quiet
Excellent breakfast, home made. The innkeeper was very helpful, showed me around the facility & my room, gave a bit of history of the house, one of the historic B&B's. It's not fancy, but furnished in the period, like your grandma's house, so it feels comfortable & homey. Very comfortable beds. Stand-up shower stall but adequate. Option to open window for fresh air or use AC. Fresh air was nice! I'd go back again!
Excellent owner. Very understanding when I lost room key
Nice B and B, quiet and charming with short walk to LL Bean and shopping, nice and welcoming staff. Mattress was a little uncomfortable but otherwise overall excellent.
This is the kind of place that we love to stay at. It's a very pleasant overall atmosphere, the room, the dining area, the sitting room, and the grounds. Of the 12 places we stayed on our trip to Newfoundland, this ranks as our favorite.
A historic house in the quaintest Maine town. I just wish I could stay longer. Very friendly and kind owner.
We were welcomed by a very friendly host. The house and property were attractive and clean. Our room had everything we needed for a comfortable and pleasant stay. Breakfast was delicious. Very convenient location. A
Welcoming, comfortable
I stayed one night in Evergreen room. The room was good, and the bathroom was almost the size of the room! There are plenty of things within walking distance from the inn (LL Bean, restaurants). They also have good parking space. The innkeeper lady is very sweet and helpful. Breakfast is excellent! Wi-Fi works. Bed is on a softer side. Overall, I enjoyed my stay. It is a small inn in a historic building, so your experience will be different from staying in a chain hotel.
Everything was good. Call shoes, polite. Rome was fine if a bit crowded by 2 beds
We stayed in the daisy room. We didn't see anything in here about kids not allowed or only kids over 12. When we checked in it was awkward. We thought we were going to have to leave because we booked a room that the host doesn't want kids in, yet nothing told us that. So BEWARE parents, dogs are ok though. The property was clean but definitely not what we expected. Breakfast is not until 8 so we missed out on that but the hosts made nice coffee.
So cute
Super sweet host, comfy bed, clean, cute house, excellent breakfast
The owner was amazing, she helped us find everything we needed. It’s not an area with good Uber service and she made sure we got where we needed to go. The house was cozy and the room was clean. Easy walking distance to restaurants.
Friendly owner onsite. Clean rooms in a walkable colonial town
First trip to Maine
Quaint older home, well maintained. Within walking distance to LL Bean flagship store and other outlet stores. Owner very friendly and made sure we had a small breakfast to accommodate our early departure.
Love the place.
Connie is a great hostess and is very considerate of guest’s needs. We really enjoyed our stay with her.
This was our first visit to Candle Bay, and we were more than pleased with the ambience, our room and especially with Connie, our hostess. She was friendly, informative and we will certainly return.
This is a wonderful B&B. The owner is very friendly and able to offer suggestions to any of your questions. The breakfast was huge and delicious! My only concern was our room. We were in the Blueberry room and it is small. It was ok for one night but if staying longer, I would suggest you get a larger room.
It is 8:15pm. I arrived about 7 pm. How soon do you expect me to form opinions?
Quaint B&B, Connie goes out of her way to create a warm and inviting experience. This was our second stay and we look forward to visiting again soon.
The owner was so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great and even though all the rooms were full, it was quiet and we were well taken care of.
Close to town, nice room for 4 people.
The owner was so nice and helpful. The room was very comfortable. Where was snacks and other amenities in the room. We meeting a lot off very nice people at breakfast. Very well run place.
Very pleasant and clean Bed & Breakfast with Accommodating hostess and good breakfast. Enjoyed interacting with other guests. Quiet location just off the main street. Would definitely stay again.
Location, just a couple of blocks away from the shops and restaurants, very walkable. Cleanliness. Breakfast was delicious but can make special requests. Enjoyed our stay. Innkeeper, Connie was always aiming to please.
Breakfast was phenomenal, especially the coffee! Loved meeting new friends! The surrounding area was beautiful and near to town. Room was adorable. Overall great place to stay. Would stay again.
Quaint and wonderful B&B. Super kind and friendly staff. Very clean and comfortable. Shopping and eating are very close and walkable. Wonderful experience!
A great new find in Freeport. Connie was the perfect host and could not be more accommodating. Food was great, Inn was great. Highly recommended.
This was my second time staying at Candlebay Inn. It is a beautifully maintained historic property. Comfortable accommodations at a very convenient location. Easy walking access to shopping and restaurants. The service is excellent.
This is a beautiful older property that is very well maintained. The service is top notch in every way. You are in the heart of downtown Freeport but it sets back enough that you don’t feel like it. Shopping and restaurants are all within easy walking distance. I will definitely be staying here again on future trips to Maine.
Our host met us at check in, and the property is beautiful and historic!! Lots of amenities including homemade cake and coffee for guests! Very nice!
Beautiful Stay
Owner is thoughtful , this is an amazing Family run B&B with great location to many area attractions.
Nice stay
It’s in a quiet area & close to the outlets & highway. Beds are super firm & the inn is clean.
This is a lovely B&B. It is within walking distance of the town, LL Bean and other stores and restaurants. The owner was very helpful telling us about the area and what to do.
Delightful 2 night stay!
Wonderful 2 night stay! Lovely bed and breakfast in a charming historical home. Connie was welcoming and accommodating. Walking distance to Freeport shops and restaurants. On-site parking. Quiet and clean room with a tasty morning breakfast. Looking forward to future stays here!
Perfect Getaway Weekend
Amazing stay at Candlebay Inn. The owner Connie is so sweet and genuine, she just made our weekend getaway perfect. The room was terrific, very clean and just what we were looking for. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful, and the conversations with the other guests were as delightful as the food. We will definitely be back!
Clean old-timey Maine Inn, friendly accommodating staff, convenient to shops and dining. Perfect base of operations for a Maine adventure.
