Great location, but hotel is not as good as it used to be. Our window lock was missing and didn’t shut completely and work was clearly being done in the hotel, as there was hammering and sanding noise during the day
Funky & Great vibe to the hotel. Very welcoming lobby & bar area. Great location very walkable to attractions & shopping.
The checkin was disgusting . It took me over 2 hours to checkin my group with 8 rooms. Really a simple process if the front desk knew what to do. It wasn't until the front desk manager finally helped that the process was finalised.
excellent location, friendly staff, every thing are nice!
Penta Beijing
Previous stays in Beijing had been at the Novotel close by, but had found this could be quite noisy and we had stayed in Penta in Shanghai in the past. Room is small but OK for our needs and price reasonable. Breakfast is good but found their other dining options expensive . Overall no problems
The hotel is 2 minutes walk from the subway station, which is really convenient. It is also attached to a mall which you can get all you basic needs (e.g starbucks, kfc, mcd and etc). Attached to the hotel is also a convenience store where you can get your snacks, water and breakfast. Will definitely stay here again when I come back to Beijing. Highly recommended!
This Hotel Has a good Vibe when you enter, also a great quality buffet is in a great location Close to all amenities including the subway, Local restaurants ,and a great massage day spa in the same street. I would recommend the Pentahotel.
The hotel room itself is 4 stars standard but the lobby is more like a hostel. The location is unbeatable thus overall worth the money.
Poor WiFi service
I am a repeated customer and i always like this hotel . Good location. Good customer service from front desk. The only disappointment for this recent stay was the door access card was not functioning despite spending more than 1.5 days to fix it. Causes major inconvenience during my stay.
Nice hotel central location. Great value.
Great location. Very close to a convenient subway line. Tasty breakfast for a reasonable price.
Size of room of family suite and location was amazing
good room price
Nice room, but do not rent 1603, it is next to the GYM and clothes washer. I got noise all the time and the WiFi would disconnect and go to GYM and I could not attach to GYM, so I had to reconnect to my room whenever I wanted to use internet for my phone and Apple laptop. Big hassle. Front desk was very nice, Helen Ma was very helpful and spoke English very well. She helped with questions and set up the clothes washing machine. I stayed one week and lots of malls and food spots within 5 minute or less walking. I liked the location, because I could walk one way to Silk Street 20 minutes and 10 minutes to Temple of Heaven and north to Forbidden City. Breakfast was ok, lunch and dinner on the expensive side, salmon was very good and pizza was good. The front desk, besides Helen spoke limited English, but remember the room price is great.
Location convenient to interchange subway. Room a bit shabby and worn. Needs upgrading. Food and drinks in lobby bar. Breakfast buffet excellent eastern / western choices. Staff rather indifferent and language restricted even though half the guests were European. Front entrance down side street not on street in address. Takes some finding. Overall happy to stay there.
Friendly staff, breakfast was excellent. WiFi was good quality.
Great location. I am please to live again when i come to Beijing next time.
Modern, good location, basic customer service
Modern looking hotel in a not so crowded shopping area. The hotel is just behind New World Shopping Mall (Uniqlo, HaiDiLao, Champion, Starbucks, McD, department stores are some of the tenants). To the left and right of the hotel, you will see a few convenience stores and lots of local restaurants hence getting breakfast, lunch and dinner is not a problem (they close early though so supper is out). Take note that this hotel doesn't provide a scale to weigh your luggage. There is no common sitting area for you to wait (sofa and couches) and we had to sit in the restaurant while waiting for our driver to pick us up to the airport for departure flight. The restaurant staff seems reluctant for us to do that because we did not order any food or drinks. Until I had to tell her that I was a hotel guest and she asked which room did you stayed in. My advice is to lower down your expectation on their customer service level.
Great short stay in Beijing
The hotel was close to the subway station and a short walk away from Tiananmen square as well as the Temple of Heaven. The hotel was also connected to the mall for easy convenience. We did not have breakfast at the hotel so cannot comment on this. We enjoyed our stay and had no issues with the hotel service.
I like the location of this hotel. It is 3 mins walk to the metro station, a couple of shopping malls and many banks within 600m. ICBC bank is just across the street. 24hr convenience store at level 1 of hotel. The only reason why i’m not going back every time is because of their Wifi. It’s terrible. Cleanliness is okay, you will see stains here and there but it doesn’t bother me. This is the second time I’m staying there after 1.5 years. Still no improvement in their Wifi.
amazing staff and comfortable stay. highly recommended!
Very reasonably priced, well located, modern hotel, perfect as a base for exploring major sites of Beijing. CAUTION: EXPEDIA HAS THE ROOMS LISTED WRONG. For some reason, Expedia's description and pictures for the Penta Max and the Family Suite are switched. We were a family of 4 with two kids, and booked the Penta Max based on the description of it being 600+ sq ft with separate living room, where the Family Suite is described as only 300 sq feet with a king bed. The front desk was very accommodating an able to switch us to a Family Suite at the same price as the Penta Max. But it took a bit of explaining to straighten the situation out, and only with my wife speaking fluent Chinese. So I'm not sure we would have been so lucky if she wasn't there, or if all of the Family Suites have been booked. 5 stars to the front desk staff for coming through for us. The hotel is located in and next to large malls with a mix of tons of western and Chinese stores. There are a lot of restaraunts, coffee shops and bakeries within a block or two. Also located right next to two major subway lines so it's very easy to get around. Highly recommend.
Great location.Staff members need guest relation training.
WiFi is very very ... very low, like there is no WiFi
Don't be put off by the reception area. Very dated and needs a refurb. The room was great, spacious & clean. The hotel is in a great location. Great choice of food for breakfast. Would definitely stay again.
Management issues
I booked this non refundable but 20 minutes after bookiing I realized my plane ticket from the USA got me in with a one day difference. I called Hotels.com multiple times from immediately to in the next several days and they said the hotel staff refused to change the booking by one night. So I booked somewhere else and just lost this night. It would have been nice if Hotels.com had swallowed this given the amount I book with them and the ridiculous refusal. Alas.
4 star hotel, 1 star service
I've booked 2 room for my friend & myself. My friend travelled alone with 2 young kids. The room that I booked was included "breakfast for 2" as stated clearly in hotel.com. However, the first day morning, my friend was requested to pay 1 breakfast for his 9 years old child. I checked with the waitress on the next day morning. A guy approached me impolitely that the restaurant only provides 1 breakfast for the guest regardless of the room category. And he insisted that my friend was billed correctly. Breakfast for 2 is a matter between the guest and hotel.com. I never experience such bad manner stuff in a 4-star rated hotel. I requested to talk to his manager. He told me off that he's the manager and it's done but I found out later he just a chef in the restaurant. And I've asked another helpful waitress to inform the hotel manager to settle the matter for me. This is not the first time that I stay in this hotel. Compare to last time stay, the front desk service at night shift is unfriendly and have favouritism to their local customers. My friend borrowed umbrellas with RMB100 deposit per umbrella. But the 2 local customers just walked away with 2 umbrellas without any deposit. My son wanted to play the pool table, the bartender turned him down by saying his age is too young. The next day, my son asked me why someone younger than him can play the pool instead. I'm speechless. I'm upset about the hotel management and the front line staff. This will be my last time to stay.
Internet is too slow! Nobody speaks English.
Great location
The location is very convenient.
Great Hotel
Just 2 nights in Beijing but the Pentahotel was the perfect place to stay. Very clean and comfortable and a lovely breakfast. Tienanmen square and the Forbidden city are within a nice walking distance.
Dirty bathroom. The tides are ful of black mildew. Bed was comfortable. Good air conditioning. Convenient neighborhood
The property is staffed by helpful and courteous professionals who speak relatively good English. Additionally, it is conveniently located near two subway lines and a variety of shops and restaurants. As a first time traveler to China I was apprehensive about the environment but I was extremely pleased and highly recommend the property.
I liked the personal, they are very helpful in every aspect, coffee, tea and drinking water in rhe room are at no extra charge
Buyer beware
No hot water. Had to move to another room. Problem with tour. Asked for short one got put on long one then dumped on curb after telling operator their mistake. Management tried to make it up and offered a free breakfast. Wife didn’t care for quality of food. Buyer beware
Good facilities, well located, many food options. Inadequate seating at reception and lobby.
Average place, a little dated and lacking some amenities. But the location is the highlight and it was generally cleaner than other average hotels.
Hotel located about 50m from exit H of Chongwenmen station and connected to New World mall which has a big supermarket at basement. Breakfast was nice with adequate spread. Most of the hotel staff were young and quick to clear the used plates from tables. Room size was adequate to keep 2 big luggage and still had space to move around.
completely comfortable, easy check in and out, outstanding breakfast with high quality diverse food
Overall, I was satisfied wirh the hotel. However, some amenities are not good, especially slippers.
Good hotel location Cooperated person in receipt ion disk but there are no concierge services
Good hotel location in city central, near to metro station But there are no concierge service
Old room
Our room is not like the photos from memory. There are old rooms and renovated rooms but unfortunately we were given an old one.
Perfect location for shopping and tourist. Walking distances from shopping malls and Tiananmen Palace
Perfect for a one night pitstop
Cheap and cheerful hotel in a good location for the western tourist. Friendly and helpful bar staff. Room slightly worn - mattresses quite hard and need renewing but good value for the location however difficult to communicate if you don’t know the local lingo.
One of the rooms was very hot - 901 but the other 2 rooms were pretty cold - 913, 917 though we turn it on heater mode. The location was ideal and the tv channels were all in English though. So that’s definitely a plus point for foreigners.
The lobby and main areas area very nice and renovated. Although the rooms are poorly renovated, old smell, tiny bathrooms, and really poor internet connection. They were not accommodating for any advice on the city or questions we asked the staff.
The hotel was in a great place in Beijing. It was close the subway and restaurants was even closer. The staff was friendly and courteous. The breakfast buffet was great 👍. Couldn’t ask for a better hotel in a better location. I would stay here again and would recommend it to others.
Good value
Excellent location. Plenty of nice eateries to choose in the area. Comfortable bed at reasonable price.
Good location, acceptable service
Service was just alright but room was comfortable and in a convenient location to walk or take the subway. It was however difficult for the drivers to locate the hotel.
Great staff always helpful Room was very nice Gym was small but glad they had one
Great location for a great price!
The ladies at reception when I arrived at about 12:30am were so very helpful and we’re very kind in allowing me to change to a king bed room after my plans changed and I was staying alone! It’s in a fantastic location if you are planning to utilise the subway system as one of the street exits is right next to the building!
Basic hotel but it's spacious, comfy and has most of the thing that you need. Bed is a little bit hard. Good location and close to metro station.
Great service and location, the rest is lacking
Great location, right off the subway and Central to manyain tourist attractions. The bed was quite hard. The room was very hot, even after opening the window. The room and bathroom were poorly lit. The service was great, the front desk was able to help provide recommendations on sights and food.
Nice chic hotel, the WIFI facility is not ideal at all
Great location. Very close to subway and various shopping malls.
Sort your wifi out.
I recently spent 3 nights at the Penta Hotel as part of a 3 week business trip to China. As i was on a business trip. The wifi in this hotel may as well have been non existant. I have stayed in Beijing many times and it's the first time I have had this problem. Surely a large number of guests that stay there are on business? I had to go and work from the local Starbucks. Not something you should have to do when you book into a hotel of this supposed quality. Breakfast was rubbish too.
We liked the location of this hotel. When we first checked in, despite purposefully having booked a room with a king size bed(since we were traveling with a baby), we were given a small, old, smelly room with a queen size bed. When we mentioned the mismatch with our booking we were given a much better room. However, we still smelled cigarette smoke coming into our room on several occasions.
The room would need to be renovated but is relatively clean. At breakfast the sliced bread was stale (clearly there for 2-3 days) and the cheese was dried and discolored. The chef argued with me that the cheese was OK according to Chinese standards. He was rude. Considering that the breakfast sells for 100 RMB this is disappointing. The hotel manager however was nice and waived our breakfast charge.
Hotel near to subway, shopping malls and attractions
Great location !!
Location was great, just minutes from Chongwenmen subway line 2 & 5. You can even walk over to Tianamen square ( which i did). Shopping mall & supermarket just next door. Reception was friendly & the check in/out was hassle free. We got 2 rooms with an adjoining door which was great (with request). The rooms was a little dated, but clean overall. The price per nite was very reasonable & I will definitely come back to stay.
Great room and great location. Near public transportation. Spacious living quarters. Quick Check-in.
Nice Hotel under a very good management. Central located, all it needs to be HOME during the absence from home.
Nice place for a layover
Nice hotel near mall & shops, strategically located near the Chongwenmen station that’s your gateway to the rest of Beijing.
Beijing Bonus
Great spot in Beijing, helpful staff and lots of English speakers to direct you in the right direction
The hotel has an amazing location. Near the subway and has a few malls nearby. However, the hotel facilities are rather old and dated. Our room has a wall that looks half painted and the cabinet and doors looks pretty worn out. The toilet smells like sewage overtime but we hardly stayed in the room so it's bearable. The bed was comfortable and this hotel is overall acceptable because we loved the location.
I thought this was a very good value for the price. The staff was very responsive, helpful and polite.
No air conditioning. Sleeping was uncomfortable. Breakfast was good
The hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful. Speak good English. Location is exceptional! Short walk to subway stations, a lot to eat and shop next to the hotel (from high end shop to supermarket), a short walk to Tiananmen Square / Forbidden City / Heaven Temple and Wangfujing.
Highly recommended
I enjoyed my stay at Pentahotel very much. Staff were pleasant and helpful and the facilities were very high standard. My room was beautifully appointed with great shower and facilities. Breakfast had a wide selection for locals and Westerners. Location was great with metro station just a couple of minutes away. It is so easy to navigate the metro in Beijing, so having the station virtually at the door was so handy. Would definitely recommend.
3 nights stay. Great location to explore Beijing
The hotel is very conveniently located near two different subway lines. Lots of cafes, supermarkets and restaurants close by. No problem with check in or check out. I stayed in the king room. Great size, very clean, nice view. Didn't make use of any of the facilities neither had breakfast so can't comment on those. I'd recommend this hotel as a great base for any Beijing visit.
I come to China every two months and stay extended stay in a hotel and I always choose Penta hotel. The staff is friendly and works to accommodate you and speaks English. The rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms are clean. It is, in my opinion, the best location for a hotel. There are two giant malls right across from each other, tons of Western restaurants, there is a bank and safe ATMs directly across the side street within a few meters of the hotel. Convenience store on the corner to stock up on food and drinks for the hotel when you're not eating out. Room service is quick and very affordable. Has a nice bar that is open late. Some of the rooms have nice views. One side view is of the mountains in the distance, the other side is of the entire city. Best hotel I've stayed in China for it's price.
staffs were nice & helpful, room was spacious & comfortable but shower drainage not was draining well. i overheard couple guests said had the same problem. bathroom quite small but its a newer nice hotel. hotel front entrance was hidden & blocked by unloading vehicles, taxi driver was having problem finding the hotel.
Great location and great staff
It was great!
Absolutely loved this hotel. Booked it for one night to make sure we liked it and ended up staying 2 more! Very friendly and helpful staff!
Great location rooms worn
The hotel is in a great location. Easy walk to lots of attractions. The staff is very friendly, most can understand English. The rooms are very worn and are in need of repair and updating. Carpet is extremely worn
The hotel was a great surprise. It's modern, minimalistic and super cool, and it's a full service hotel except for no 24 hour room service. Ideally located close to restaurants, shops and the subway line, and the staff is courteous and speaks English, which was reassuring for us as we relied on a pretty unreliable translation app. What a great experience; will be back at the Pentahotel again!
great location
great location near the subway and shopping malls, big rooms, good and polite service, very good breakfast.
Nice hotel convenient location subway nearby. Recommend to everyone. Nearby great food with great prices。in less than a hour to get to airport by subway big plus. I will definitely stay here again.
You get what you pay for
Overall, it was a pleasant stay. Love the area, lots of restaurants, great food and shopping malls. We ran out of Chinese money and the hotel was able to exchange usd. A hint to bring more money next time. The cons, bathroom was a bit gross. The hotel food was bad (aside from their congee). We didn’t get the 35% off of breakfast as stated when we booked it.
clean, simple, close to subway - very convenient
great hotel, it was clean and spacious. The staff was friendly and efficient but sometimes it was difficult to communicate in English. Bottled water was provided daily and the charges for laundry was very reasonable. The light switches were a bit confusing but maybe that was just us. The only thing to criticize was the leaking shower. After taking a shower, the whole bathroom floor was flooded. But still a great hotel to stay in with a 2 min walk to the Chongwenmen Subway Station - makes commuting easy.
Pleasant stay
Overall, pentahotel beijing is an excellent stay only a short walk from the nearest metro station. The room is spacious and gets cleaned efficiently everyday. The staff are also nice and reply fast over email. My only small complaint are the ‘hardward’ of th bathroom - toilet flush is a little problematic and I had to press a couple of times to get a full flush, and shower drains are a bit slow. Nothing that ruins my experience though. We appreciated the stay overall!
Very disappointing experience!
So many communications issues. Hard to communicate in English with anyone that works at the hotel. Fortunately I had Chinese friends who could help. Check in and check out is always extremely slow and no one acknowledges you until they are finished with what they are working on. I am trying to get an itemized bill to determine if it was correct.
Wrong location for direction and nail in carpet ho
Great hotel. . .comfortable bed ...stepped on a nail from the carpet. . . If you use directions from the hotels.com app you will end up at wrong location. . .it is very close to metro station
The room is small and the bathroom design on air duct is bizarre, it makes the towel damp.
Good location
The hotel is relatively near the Chongwenmen subway exit and also some big shopping malls. Finding food was easy. Hailing cabs with big luggage was tough though as the lobby was along a small road so there were very few cabs. There was no bell hop service to help hail cabs. Check-in and check-out times were quite manic as the front desk was a small area and many guests ignored the existing queues. When we approached front desk during non-peak periods, the service provided was friendly and helpful.
I’ve stayed at the Pentahotel, Hong Kong, location before so I chose the same hotel in Beijing. Splitting image to the HK version, the Beijing hotel has everything I need for a comfortable stay. Located right beside the metro, the hotel was easily accessible and had many food options in the surrounding area.
Pentahotel near 5 shopping malls with over 140 restaurants to pick from and 2 main subway stops. A great location. Also has excellent "private car" service available and runs bus tours to the major sites. Also, a TRUE Western-style breakfast buffet offered every morning to get the day started at $14/person. Drawbacks: very small lobby, the hotel bar rarely open and offers few drinks, tiny check-in desk creating some wait times.
Great location. Helpful staff
Trouble free stay -helpful English speaking staff. Good value for money
Dated, Construction site and traffic junction
Room was dated, hotel provided 2 tiny bottles of complementary water daily that wouldn't last long in 40c summer heat, Hotel is located next to a busy traffic junction and car horns can be heard 24/7, additionally I had the pleasure of construction noise (hammering and excavators) outside my window at night working at night. Laundry service was 600rmb for a small 3kg load, decided to opt for a cheaper external alternative online. Beer was 75rmb more than most bars in the city, internet wifi was so slow it was pointless trying to connect sometimes and staff spoke no English at reception so complaints went unheard. Save your money and book somewhere else, most disappointing hotel I've stayed at for years!!!
Carpet needs to be replace really dirty and whole room needs a deep cleaning
Hotel location is very good just near to the Metro. Hope hotel can provide more personal amenity.
Nice hotel located near metro & central enough to see & do most things in Beijing. Close to all local ameneties & shops yet far enough away from the noise for peaceful sleep. Hotel foyer & reception fairly funky & modern but rooms slightly tired. However, hotel is kept clean throughout & staff are friendly & helpful, albeit the lack of English language skills by majority of staff. I would definately recommend & not hesitate to stay again if ever in Beijing again
Great familyhotel..great trip
Very good stay. Location is great....Subway just outside front door... McDonalds..Starbucks in same building...hotel nice....like Comfort Inn in USA....near lots of major sites....Forbidden City..Temple of Heaven...Tienamen Square....
Customer service can be improved, small room and house keeping needs to improve on toilet cleaning.
Staff barely understands English
Close to all tourist location, short walk to metro, drum tower
Don’t stay
They didn’t really understand English well at the front desk. Very difficult to get a taxi from the front. They had a buffet breakfast that was short of buffet style eating. The rooms were old could use a significant improvement.
good hotel very convenient with central location. Excellent breakfast, quiet and very comfortable room. Only thing lacking was good restaurant facilities in the evening and the bar was over-priced. I'd stay again for sure.
NIce hotel, reasonably priced and well located to two subway lines and 30 mins walk from Tiananmen Square.
Beijing Chongwenmen Tongpai Hotel | Hotel in Beijing | Travala.com
Good location. Quiet room. Very reasonable price. Would seriously re-consider again for future travel to Beijing.
