The Mediterranean restaurant has limited capacity and there’s no waitlist or reservation at least, so people that didn’t get a table were practically forced to wait outside on the stairs (it’s on a second floor) since if they leave they loose their spot since there’s waitlist as mentioned… I saw many seniors or people with incapacities going upstairs as they could just to be told to leave since the restaurant is small and they have to wait outside… yes you could go to the buffet or the other two restaurants but our case was that we already eaten in all of them and was only missing this one so we waited, the hostess said it will take 45 minutes but it was actually an hour ish for us to get a table, the food was incredibly mid so it was NOT WORTH the wait at all. My recommendation is to, since it’s a small restaurant (like 15 tables) please do reservations, if people don’t show up at least 10 minutes after their reservation time you can give the pass to the first group/person who arrived at that time and was waitlisted , so seniors don’t have to go upstairs for nothing, it was raining so the floor was a bit slippery… thankfully nothing bad happened.

This hotel has great friendly staff. Everyone is helpful. A nice place to stay with family or friends. Beautiful pool area, good food choices.

The grounds were clean and well maintained. Food options were decent, limited seafood options but otherwise good. Staff was pleasant and very attentive. Will visit again!

Nice lobby architecture seen from Pool área, suggesrive of Taíno culture. Large beautiful clear Pool with various sections and central fountains. Excellent and plentiful food in buffet, varied themes nightly, with three a la carte restaurants. Pleasant and helpful staff. Sadly ocean was too rough for swimming-first time in 30 years of visitong POP.

Everything was great

Everything went fine from check-in to check-out. We were even upgraded to VIP room with all extras free. Very nice resort and a beautiful pool area.

The building which is under construction is a mosquito farm. There were so many mosquitoes on that side of the resort. I counted a total of 15 bites in one afternoon. Besides that, everything else was great.

The facilities need major remodel. My room smelled like wet oil based paint and the food was the most disappointing I’ve ever had at a resort. This place is so depressing 😕

The bedrooms and bathrooms need improvement

Two minutes through the gate I was ready to leave. And it went down hill from there. Don’t stay there. You can get way better food at 7/11. I’m not exaggerating.

This place is properly outdated. Very moldy beyond means. The roof is leaking very limited activities. The staff is rude and don’t seem to care about anything. Which only means the managers are the same.

Overall stay was good. I did have to wait to check in for an hour and a half even though check in is at 3pm. I also notice the ac was leaking in my room but they immediately fixed it. Great food!

The staff were all nice and respectful and helpful! Sad that the whole time was raining but still enjoyed my stay. The only thing was that the even though i turned off the AC the room felt freezing like the AC was still on. (Good to know that on a hot day it will work lol) the food was honeslty good in all restuarants but not the buffet even the midnight food was good too. SHOUTOUT TO THE GUYS THAT WORKED OVERNIGHT SNACK BAR LOVED THEM THEY WERE AWESOME AND SUPER KIND WISH I GOT THEIR NAMES !!! :)

My airline cancelled my flight heading to the DR it was disappointing that I couldn't receive compensation for missing our first night there. On that note, the staff @ the buffets were professional helpful and friendly. I have to say the "Mexican" restaurant! Not sure why they call it Mexican?! It was not close to being Mexican food. Bad Overall the staff through out the resort were very hospitable!

Im white skin and when the staff think that I was an American, they treat me very good but when I talk spanish, the treatment change. Staff have to treat persons good.

We were on the 3rd floor of one of the buildings. The entire building smelled like mold/mildew and the smell get worse as you go up to the 3rd floor. For about 3 of the 5 days I was there there was a chunk of the ceiling that rotted away and fell on the ground, no one cleaned it at all all week. The building clearly smells like they have a roof leak and their attic area is likely full of mold/mildew which is unsafe to have people breathing this. This is the 3rd time my family has visited this resort and regretfully it is the last time. The food was mediocre and no real authentic foods. The rice/beans do not taste good, the mango, the queso frito, all those authentic foods are made with low quality food because it does not taste good. They have pictures of what the food looks like and the food they offer does not match. The staff and the pool is the only reason why we did not just leave the place. Everyone is very polite and the pool is fun although the waterfall areas need to be cleaned there's mold/mildew on the rock material itself. I have always been a fan of this place ever since the 1st time we brought our family but this place has gone down hill unfortunately. They need to resolve the mold/mildew issue because that is likely causing people life threatening harm to be breathing that. Think about all the little kids and babies staying at this resort breathing in mold/mildew. If there is a health department or any means to very that this place is mold free it would fail.

The service was absolutely amazing, and the staff was very understanding and very accommodating. And the food was very good. I would definitely recommend coming here!

I really enjoyed everything during my vacation. However i had a medical emergency and the hotel's doctor was unprofessional with me and didn't provide the properly medical care. A few members from the animation team as 2 workers from the pizzeria took me to the near clinic to receive the properly medical care. The food doesn't have a lot of variety. Needs to improve it.

Excellent service and treatment

This hotel was adequate for a quick long weekend getaway. The facilities need more upgrading and renovations. The staff however is excellent and extremely attentive. Everyone went out of the way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The food was also very tasty.

I have been to this hotel 20 times since 2004. The staff at the reception, Bell Boy, and restaurants are all pleasant and bi-lingual this is convenient and makes the stays even more so easy and comfortable.

Overall, this was an average stay for me and my family. There was not a lot of variety of foods when it came to the restaurants or buffet, and there was also not a single restaurant (buffet included) with an air conditioner and some did not even have working fans. The rooms were very nice and clean and most of the staff was welcoming, some had a little attitude, but you cannot blame them when they have to work in such heat.

I have stayed at the Be Live/ Marien over 20 times (since 2004). The property and rooms are spacious. The staff is helpful, and most are bilingual. There is an ATM on the property, as well as parking and shops.

it is NOT a five-star property. Very far from it. Very limited amenities, lack of attention to the overall state of the property. I would not recommend this property to anyone ever. I work in the hospitality industry, so I am very familiar with operations and the behind the scenes that goes into running the business. They really need to revaluate practices and marketing. I was definitely mislead by the way this hotel portrayed. The buffet is horrendous. From the food presentation, the taste, quality, lack of variety and the chefs that were working behind the grill/stations looked very dirty, and disheveled. Brazilian restaurant, the food was bland, staff were not attentive at all. The only reason I gave this a two star for service was because of the team working at the Mediterranean restaurant, they were all great, making up for the fact that half of the menu was not available. The snack bar is joke. The cups used throughout the resort were cheap disposable cups. Whereas other five star properties I’ve stayed at use hard plexi cups. It’s the little things like that really cheapen this place and just dampens the entire experience. Rooms are outdated. First I was given the wrong room and only because I insisted did they “investigate” what happened and was eventually given the suite I booked the next day. There are no real perks to VIP, it’s a scam. Don’t even think about having decent wifi, it’s mediocre at best and doesn’t work. If you are thinking about booking, DON’T!

The property is ok, the food is Horrible .There’s no entertainment , after 6:30pm is absolutely nothing to do, . I went with two teenagers and they were both board. Absolutely not a 5 start resort, maybe a 1 start. Will never go back again . I forgot to mention the first room I got I had to ask to be changed. The toilet didn’t flush ,phone didn’t work and the room decor looked old. For me not a very good experience . I would rate this resort a 1 star .

This "resort" is very dated and needs a major renovation. There are leaks in various areas throughout the buildings. The furniture is old and broken. The staff is the only thing holding up this hotel and am surprised they're still in business.

Our stay here was for 3 days and honestly the resort has so much to offer. I’ll start off with the hotel, which we rented 2 rooms one with a single king and the other with two doubles. Both rooms were great and well equipped with all necessities although they could use a comforter for each bed. The rooms got very cold which we enjoyed but would have enjoyed more with additional blankets. The huge pool was a favorite for our daughter and the private beach was a delight for our family. We stayed at the resort during the week so it was not overcrowded and we felt as if we had most of the resort to ourselves. Although that was not the case because there were plenty of others staying. The buffet had so much to offer and they changed up what they offered everyday and had different themes like Chinese night and french food. The food is the type of quality you would expect at any other buffet but we were still happy with it. We were only able to go to the Brazilian restaurant because there wasn’t a clear schedule on what restaurant is open that night so we missed the Mexican restaurant which we really wanted to go. We were told during the weekend all restaurants are open. Every night they there is a different event going on at the theatre and was honestly our favorite part about the resort. The staff put on amazing shows for us and the whole family enjoyed them very much. We cannot speak for the other excursions they offered which is many. Definitely a highly recommended resort.

The staff were super nice and attentive, but the food and drinks were terrible. It was boring and the entertainment was non existent. They had shows at night and that was it. I was very disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

This hotel was a wonderfull expierence it has a lot of places to visit like for example the pool, the beach and more.

We had a terrible experience beginning with the assigned room, first the shower made a mess spilling water all over the bathroom, then we’d been changed to a second room where the AC didn’t work more than a regular fan, we were changed to other room again. Well the issues continued with the shower, next door guest yelling that you can hear in your room, for the last night our bathroom experienced a ceiling filtration and the bathroom was flooded. We also experienced lot of cockroaches . The drinks are poor in quality also the food and limited menu in the buffet. Most of the staff are very friendly and helpful but this property needs improvement quickly or should be closed due to the low quality in all areas.

Fue horrible en verdad , la comida el buffet lo que vi es lo mismo , el restaurante un calor terrible sin ventilación . Yo en particular no lo recomiendo

tenia mas de 20 anos sin ir a puerto plata y pense que como escuchaba se habia recuperado pero realmente mi experiencia en relacion al hotel playa show y habitacion fue buena pero no puedo decir lo mismo de la comida podrian tener mas variedad de carnes ya que nadie sale a comer spaguetis de su casa la piscina se ve bien pero no se porque no tiene ni una sombra en ningun sitio y de verdad que con el sol que hace y el calor actul es xasi imposible disfrutarla no todos somos extranjeros que queremos achichararnos, el staff se ve desanimado y poco entusiamo se siente no se si es por las condiciones de como trabajan o que sera me encantaba puerto plata pero para pagar 250 dollares la noche definitivamente pago un poco mas en punta cana

Very good resort

Horrible is the definition of this property. We booked a 6 night two hotel vacation at the this hotel. The rooms were unkempt, unsanitized, rusty, dirty, and there was mold everywhere in the bathroom. The curtains have never been washed and there was different color hairs all throughout the room. My Ac was not working, my sister’s room which was right across the hallway, wreaked of mildew and humidity. Her AC flooded her room and the paint outside her door was bubbled up from the leak on the roof. Omgg the food was extremely digusting and there was no options for kids. At this point, we already considerd to check out fearing that we would get sick from this place. We checked out in less than 8 hours to a hotel that cost us double the price about $4,000 due to the last minute booking. Customer service was non-existent at this moment. I explained all of my concerns to the “Expedia” representative at the hotel who was not receptive or helpful. After she indicated that we can get a refund but that “Expedia charges a one night fee” later told us that the hotel is non-refundable. The manager never showed his face and did not speak to me not even to apologize for their irresponsibility and lack of professionalism. I called Expedia but they were ignoring their call and did not respond to their email and I have proof. I kick myself for not taking pictures of how HORROBLE THIS PLACE IS. But believe me ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK. I am still fighting for our refund!!!!

the staff are amazing and always treated us nicely. the only thing is the place is not keeped up. for example we had water coming into are rooms on the 3rd floor. mold and alot of water damages. the beach isn't kept up especially the vip area. the stairs to the rooms are cracked.

Went on a Family vacation for 5 days. The Resort is terrible, the food and drink quality, property maintenance, very limited Wifi. Also, DR is very lively and this resort was sort of dead in terms of music and entertainment. Although the staff really tried to work with the people but the management is not good.

The VIP is not convenient, a decent walk. Limited options. The food on the property was unfulfilling and left us with upset stomachs. Food off property was much better! Wifi in the rooms was poor while on the beach was better? Not sure how that works.

The place was cleaned, staff very helpful and attentive. I think the food from the buffet should be more authentic to the region, meaning it should have been more Dominican dishes.

This was my fourth time coming here and still it’s clean and simple. Keep in mind it is a bit outdated compared to other new resorts but they do a great job keeping it clean and providing a good service.

TERRIBLE! AWFUL! WORST RESORT EVER! Customer service is nonexistent at this resort! First of all, it wouldn’t hurt if they occasionally smiled! They certainly do not know how to apologize! My flight was delayed so I could not get there until the next day. I called and spoke with someone at their front desk, and they said no problem, no problem at all, we will see you tomorrow. I arrive and they had canceled my reservation and given away our room! They finally gave us a terrible, old, filthy 2 double bed room. We had paid for a Superior King VIP room. Went back and complained and they said come back tomorrow at 3:00. We were at the desk at 2:40 and they said no problem, our new room would be ready at 3:00. We came back and they had already given that room away! So we waited another hour for another room. This resort is old and in need of many repairs! The food is awful and the same every day. The wait staff is ok, but the cooks are not friendly at all. They act like you are wasting their time. Room cleaners are terrible. They say they will clean your room while we are gone to eat, or to the beach, but they never did. Our room was cleaned and sheets changed only once the whole week. We never did get the VIP towels that were supposed to be in the room. We finally had to get a couple blue towels another way. Unemployment is so high in the DR, they should fire half the staff. They could have 100 new people anxious to work the next day! Horribly mis-managed!! TERRIBLE RESORT!!
