The service and every staff member I interacted with were amazing, but unfortunately by room just hadn't had a good clean in a very long time. Mildew in the bathroom and crumbs under the bed, just not in a great condition.

Great stay as always
The hotel is very nice, but it is dated. It is good value for money. The swimming pool is very big and there is a nice gym. It is walking distance to most attractions.
Was Hacked and Had Crdit Card Charged!
Place is in rundown condition. But, for the price it is fair. My problem, and I should say my big problem, was that I was hacked when using their QR code to order room service. They have a third party app that stole my credit card info. I spent a day in the police department and making expensive calls to my credit card company etc.. AND THE WORST PART - no attention or apology from manager. No compensation and no care at all. IT came to the room and they said they would remove the QR codes from the hotel. They did not. Unacceptable. I received charges from some company!
Honest Bayview Hotel Penang Review
Bayview Hotel Experience for check in is ok. But went into the room, amenities are not provided fully. 1) Toothbrushes and toothpaste (booked two rooms, one room have it, the another don't have it 2) Both rooms only provided with bath towels. Hand towels are not provided. 3) Carpets are dirty, don't appear vacuumed for a super long while. 4) TV has no proper channel. I have decided to manual re-tune all the channels via the settings and it finally got some proper channels, but not according to the channel list shown.
The hotel is a bit old. The location is a bit off the center of George Town but still walkable if you don't mind. The swimming pool is on the small side. The rooftop restaurant is great. You can see the whole Geroge Town almost. There is a big night food court right next to the hotel where you can get all kinds of food for dinner.
I liked the staff and their hospitality. The hotel is good value for the money. The room service is excellent. the sea-view from the room is breath-taking.
The staff was helpful. We were able to borrow unbrellas which was useful. Conveniently located to a hawkers stand delicious. Had maps so street art was found. Need a map for the walking tour which was fun but could only find it on our phone. Need to post ideas so people could see more actuvities in this wonderful city.
NIL
the bed blankets are just individual 2 white sheets sandwiching a thicker blanket. The sheets will separate during sleeping . kettle is dirty with black stains, door is creeking when opening. no place to hang any clothes after washing as the wash line in the bathroom is broken.
Stay was nice but certainly it could use some facelift. Lift lobby reeks of cigarettes and the TV uses AV connection that don't really have options and the options that worked had very poor reception. Not much of accessible power sockets close to bed and worst of all there was no lighting options if you want to have some light to work on something. I have seen some moody pubs have better lighting.
Big plus point is walkable distance to the World Heritage Site of old Georgetown
Overall good
Overall this was a big surprise, as I had read mixed reviews that were posted, yes it is an older hotel but it has great charm and larger rooms only minutes from the centre of George Town, and the best thing of all the staff were amazing , and the food was excellent
Nice
The location is good, hotel room is clean.
Old Hotel
is old, if dont mind still can stay, nearby ok to walk around for North East of Georgetown. water chute due to slow flow, cleaner should inform maintenance
The Staff were excellent and extremely attentive. unfortunately, the rooms in the hotel are in great need of renovation with some mould on the bathroom ceiling and the room having a Musty smell.
Clean and good service, but a bit old the facilities and furniture, parking not easy
We liked: the location - close to transport, restaurants, street food, historic places, staff We didnt like: the absence of satellite TV channels (at least in our room), fresh milk for tea. Also breakfast offered no gluten-free bread for toast, no fresh machine coffee (despite it grown in Malaysia).
Highly recommended.
Great property with great amenities.
Hotel us bit old but all good .
The property is close to town and good location with huge rooms. It is an older style hotel but compensated with a big room and good size beds. The staff are the most amazing. Very accommodating. They also went out of the way to find my baby top that went missing in the laundry and they found it! Would recommend and stay again definately!
hotel staff not friendly place looks run down mattresses left at corridor. EVEN ONE EXTRA BOTTLE OF WATER NOT ENTERTAINED. RIDUCULOUS. I STAYED THIS HOTEL BEFORE POBABLY 6 YEARS BACK NEVER WAS LIKE THIS EXPERIENCE.
Not recommend this property
Old style room, which was fine. The thing with this hotel is that there is a night club on the roof that plays thunderingly loud car alarm techno. It rumbles and disturbs on through the night. Guests beware.
When I was first checked in, I was put into a horrible room, there was mould on the ceilings in the bathroom and main room, the carpets and curtains were stained. the shower/bath was cracked and rusty, the mirror partially broken. I immediately went down to report this to reception who told me I couldn't' move until the next day because the hotel was full. I had to stay in the room that nights, the next morning i brought my stuff down. Check in to the new room wasn't till 3 so i did go out for the day as i had limited time. When I did return, I was informed the room was ready and it was upgraded. The second room was in a much better condition. Breakfast was nice Ultimately it worked out okay, but the first room left a poor impression of this hotel!
Very nice room and very kind staff.
Overall it was a nice reasonable property and easily walkable to restaurants and attractions in the area. Nice rooftop view and bar at the property. The rooms are of adequate size, but "looking tired". Replacement of some furniture are needed.
Hotel well located within amenities
The room was pretty large for the price. music of the roof-top bar (situated one level above the 16th floor) could be disturbing to those staying on floors closer to the 16th floor. The pool with a depth of up to 3.5 metre was a pleasant surprise. A separate suntanning area adjacent to the pool was rather thoughtful. Location of the hotel was near to many food courts, eateries, a large supermarket (Mydin) and wet markets.
Good
Great Location with restaurants within the property. The Mantra Restaurant is amazing!
Past its glory days
This hotel is conveniently located and could be wonderful, but it is in need of refurbishment. Everything is run down, and the staff is not pleasant.
Loved the views from the high floor!
Leaking shower head.Inform reception but nothing was done.Dining chairs in coffee house dirty
Old school hotel
hotel was old with visible mould in the bathroom. Towels had holes
A caring receptionist from the hotel
The reception Sarks Duo are very helpful for my requests since I have late check in issue thanks you so much for understanding!
Reasonable hotel
2nd time staying in this hotel. Reasonable hotel. Nearby to many food places so it's convenient. Only set-back for me is only bathtub for shower. Maybe not so suitable for older people as concern of falling as no non-slip floormat inside bathtub provided.
.
Room was too dark to read or write at night time. Shower was not easy to control temperature. Same was air condition outlet. No pencil, paper and slippers.
Highly recommend
It's a quite an old hotel and not sound proof at all.The water pressure is very low when taking a shower.
Value for money hotel.
Nothing to add. All good.
Highly recommended
Goood
It is not bad. But the celling of bathroom is mouldy. The sound insulation is not good.
Room is not bright enough
There are only a few warm lights inside room & not bright enough. Also, limited electrical sockets to charge your devices and is positioned too low (under the tables) so needs a longer cable for your USB charger or power adapter for laptop.
Great location, pity about the condition.
This hotel location is perfect for walking to Old Town, Chinatown, Jetty's and a covered street food hall. The staff are brilliant particularly the doirman/bellhop. The only things that let it down is that it needs a refurbishment, the furniture is worn and tired and the bath in our room was very badly chipped and cracked.
We previously stayed at Bayview in 2019 and noticed that the property has deteriorated somewhat since then. Some major upgrades are needed to the rooms and furniture is ‘tired’ and worn. With some investment, this place could really improve. Whilst the staff is helpful and pleasant, I can’t recommend this as a good place to stay.
Value for The money
Wish I had stayed elsewhere
Booked this as I thought, with it being an international chain, I could bank on a certain basic standard. But I left wishing I'd stayed elsewhere as it fell so short of the standard of other hotels I stayed in on my trip. This hotel is well overdue a refurb or reconstruction and felt well overpriced for what I received. The room smelled stale and the air-conditioning did not work and did not seem to circulate the air in the room. There was mould on the ceiling of both the bedroom and bathroom. The water in the bath ran brown. The towels were ripped. There was graffiti in the room. Every piece of furniture was worn, bumped and chipped. The lifts were regularly out of service. Breakfast was not included in the price, and was not as cheap as could be found locally.
I indicated a non smoking room but the room has a strong stinking smoking smell The whole building needs a good renovation as it is really tired, 45 years old. The reception smells, ceiling has water marks from to air condition There is no instant hot water and will need to wait for five minutes to get some warm water from the shower. The first room we had the room phone was not working. I had to demand for a change in room which was granted after a ten minutes debate.
Walkable to Chulia street and Chew jetty. Stone throw away from blue mansion.
I think the property needs a major makeover - the interiors are old, carpets are stained in the rooms and hallways. The pro for this hotel is its location and convenience to all the attractions around Georgetown, but there are other nicer hotels in the area, maybe a bit more pricey but could be worth the extra bucks. Depends on who is with you, I was traveling alone so did not mind the old carpets, but if I had my significant other with me, she would have me move out rightaway
Good location but that was the only redeeming quality of this hotel. Mould everywhere in the bathroom, stained sheets and towels, dirty walls - overall an unhygenic and dirty place that is not worth the cheap price.
Chinese New Year - incense sticks get bigger here
this was a friendly place. comfortable, quiet and a pool with warm bubbles. great neighbourhood for walking (but hot during the sunny hours and probably not a lot to see at night). i would like to return.
It take a long time to check in event I arrive at midnight and the car park unconvenient
We were able to extend our holidays a couple of times without any issues or problem. The hotel is very centrally located and easy excess. Walking distance to shopping and food courts. I would definitely come back and stay here again
Decent
Place needs a spruce asap but mgmt is sitting on i
Staff made the difference. Almost all of them were courteous, polite, friendly and attentive to our needs. The security at the door wasn't friendly and helpful. In fact one of them was rude. One of the days during our stay, it was pouring and we were in a cab. We were heading to the nearby restaurant but decided to go to the hotel instead. The driver, due to our last minute change of mind, had to enter on the opposite side of the driveway. The security guard instead of understanding the situation kept scolding the cab driver and when I told him not to scold, he turned around and stared at me. The floor around the swimming pool and the pool itself needs a thorough cleaning. The gym staff was unfriendly.
Ok but needs refurbishing.
Stayed here numerous times but just gets more run down every time. Rooms need refurbishing now look their age. Breakfast adequate but not great. Staff disinterested and always new.
old hotel
very old hotel and room
360 rooftop dining, pool
Throughout my stay, the hotel's staff consistently demonstrated a commitment to guest satisfaction, always ready to assist with a smile. Their attention to detail and prompt responses to any inquiries truly enhanced the overall experience. Its proximity to the downtown area, renowned for its local street food and vibrant street arts scene, made exploring the city a breeze. I look forward to returning in the future.
It's older and could use some updating but it's a great place. Perfect location, nice rooms, food on site and near. My high point was the staff. They are the best. They are friendly, helpful, and relaxed but professional. As usual, it comes down to people. Great hotel!
We book a family room for 2 adults and 2 kids. It has 1 king and 2 single bed. Room is bug but you can hear the noises from other rooms and can even smell durian bought by other room. There is 1 bath and 2 toilets. The bath there is a bathtub but somehow if u shower int he morning maybe peak houra, the hot water isnt that hot. The parking is multi story amd there is only lift serving the 2 floors. If you happen to park at other floors be ready to climb the stairs.
Dusty room
Room is huge but, check in takes forever, room is super dusty.
Need renovating
Good location with a nice view of the bay, convenient to walk to many locations in George Town. Room facilities are very average and a bit dated for a 4-star hotel.
The hotel itself is fine - clean, tidy, perhaps a bit dated. Nothing fancy. The rooftop bar and restaurants don’t open until 4:30pm and 6:30pm respectively which is disappointing. Hotel location is superb.
The staff were very friendly, and the hotel restaurants located within the building were convenient for late-night dining.
Great location but the property is a bit dated and needs better cleaning of facilities. Overall not a bad option if you are looking for easy access to points of interest.
The toilet downstairs for public use is so dirty with water on the floor. There is nobody to wipe the wet floor. Seems like people pee on the floor and use water instead of using the toilet seat.
Close to all amenities. Friendly and helpful staff. Will stay same hotel on my next trip to Penang
This is clearly a very old hotel that has not been updated for decades. The first room I was put in had hair on the bed, dirty toilet, dirty shower curtain, I took a shower and the bathroom floor flooded. The lock on the door was falling off. So I was moved to another room that was only slightly better. In this room, there were holes in the sheets, the towels were stained, and the safe didn’t work. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels and this one was, by and large, the greatest disappointment. The staff was lovely but unfortunately, the room was terrible. So terrible, in fact, I checked out a day early, took the financial loss and booked another hotel.
Good
Upon entering the lobby, the hotel looks decent. However, when we got to our floor, the hallway to the room was dark with a musky, moldy, cigarette smell. The room itself also had the same smell. The carpets should definitely be replaced. The bathtub was slow to drain and the water went past our ankle each time we shower. There were no comforter, just a really old thermal blanket that we had to use the sheets to cover each night. We roughed it out since only stayed for a few nights. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Worth Staying Hotel
Overall a good hotel to stay.
Check out need to queue very long. Unsystematic.
Great suite, just a few niggles
Our sea view suite was wonderful, spacious, taste fully decorated, with one and a half bathrooms. The hotel itself is well located, staff friendly, and place well maintained. There were just a few niggles that meant downgraded review from 5*. When arrived only total of 2 towels in both bathrooms, and only 5 clothes hangers for the 2 of us. These were quickly remedied, but during week tea bags not always replaced, a small thing but we had bought our own coffe e and milk but relied on hotel for tea. At initial check in was great, got into room an hour early. After that problems with queues at front desk. twice gave up waiting, a third time complained when as second in queue I had waited 30 minutes by that time and guy in front of me even longer. Lady was working hard but it took 40 minutes to be served. At check in I put funds on room card so could charge room service, laundry etc. But found laundry wanted cash on delivery both times, and restaurant wanted cash for breakfast so never charged anything to room.
The queue to check-in was very long with only 2 staffs working. After waiting for half an hour to check-in, I was told to wait for another 20 mins to get my room ready. As it was already more than 2 hours pass check-in time and I was in a rush, had to settle for a room that I did not book for (not an upgrade). Room is very dated, the towels really should be changed. The only good thing about this hotel is the location.
I've been to Penang a handful of times and I've always found the locals to be friendly and welcoming. Yet this hotel managed to round up the the most unpleasant people on the island and staffed them at the lobby. The chubby girl with glasses at the front desk in particular has a holier-than-thou attitude that made me feel like my very presence before her was a nuisance. The check-in experience was akin to a Seinfeld scenario, "no soup for you!" At least the soup in Seinfeld was supposed to be fantastic. This hotel here is deteriorating, not only in its physical appearance, but in its staff and management. Stay elsewhere, fellow travelers. You're better than this.
Property is truly old but is still functional. Not much complains for the price point. Room is big and spacious although not much amenities. Breakfast is terrible and not at all worth the extra money, do not recommend getting it. No slippers to use in the room. No toothbrush and tooth paste on the first day but turned up on the second day without me asking. Soap and shampoo are very basic.
The Hotel is well located and the staff is nice. Room is big but the bed is hard and the pillows was old and yellow. We asked for new pillows but it was the same. The male bathroom at the lobby was really dirty with sticky floors, the women bathroom was not so clean but not as dirty as the male. The hotel hasn't been updated since they open and you can tell by the state of the furniture, carpets, and decor. Area was nice and easy access to bars, restaurants and tourist location. Staff was nice and helpful.
PENANG MAY 2023
Nice hotel in a really good location in Georgetown both for visiting historical buildings and also for bars and restaurants. Staff were all friendly and very helpful. I was on the 12th floor with nice views of the Strait of Malacca. My only slight issue was the wifi was sometimes not so good in my room.
Very convenient to walk around Georgetown

Located at city center, convenient to reach to my location
Really comfortable stay. Lots of food options. Early. Beautiful rooftop view. Freud my staff.
Location
This part of the hotel needs renovation.
Ageing hotel but value-for-money for now
The hotel is very well located with big rooms, free onsite parking at very competitive prices. We were pleasantly surprised with daily cleaning, towel change and complimentary bottled water replenishment, in sharp contrast to the once in 2-3 days frequency at our recent stay at 5 star hotel in HK due to manpower shortage. However, the hotel needs a physical refresh to stay competitive, starting with replacing all the towels that were grey with age immediately.
Large room
Nice hotel in a good location close to the city centre. We had a large room with a great view over George Town. The staff were helpful and friendly. We tried the revolving restaurant and both the view and food were very good. Across the road from the hotel is the Red Garden hawker centre which has great food at a great price.
