Decent hotel, train close, food was not bad but not worth the cost unless you eat a lot
The washroom was a little bit small, specially the basin. Else the staff were super cool and amazing environment. We have even got a toy for our toddler.
Excellent service. The location requires the use of transport to reach places of interest and public transport is somewhat far away. Reasonable room, poorly lit and with the company of some cockroaches.
Nice stay here, would stay again.
Very nice quiet place and nice staff
Great hotel. Safe and close to the light rail.
I wanted to stay somewhere that was safe, but conveniently located. It fit my needs perfectly. A 7-8 minute walk to the light real station and a nice safe walk back to hotel in the evening. I also want to say thank you to the front desk receptionists Angel for being very kind to me. My flight got canceled the night before and I was not feeling. But she was amazing and helped answer questions I had about both the hotel and Amsterdam. Excellent customer service. Definitely recommend.
The staff were friendly. The hotel itself was good for what we paid for but the room was not entirely clean, I got bed bug bites and there were flys around the bar.
I would highly recommend this lovely hotel.
My hubby and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Bastion Hotel. We were looking for somewhere not far from Amsterdam Centraal but with our own privacy. It was a great alternative to hostels in central area, both location and money wise. Being able to drink our morning coffees was great with the coffee machine and pods provided. We loved how close it was to Vondel Park. The staff were helpful and friendly. Our room was clean and tidy and we were offered a daily housekeeping service, although we did not need it.
Hotel is located near the highway, therefore noisy a bit especially with the poor windows quality. Hotel like any other of this price category, just a place to sleep, shower and get breakfast before you spend the whole day in the city center.
Cheap Place by the Ring Road
Small but decent rooms, secure parking and cheap. It is 7000 steps to the main museum from here and takes 50mins. Same again from there to Central Station. You could get a bus, train, bike etc too. 15 Euros to park. Nice staff let us check in very early. Not much around but remember it is cheap! We paid 17 Euros to Uber back from downtown.
Close to public transport which was a must for me.
Very friendly staff
Plenty of space in the room and pictures are accurate. An extra pillow for each bed would have been perfect.
Never again
I did not enjoy my stay at all. The hotel was dated inside. Every day there was a horrible smell in the staircase area. My room was dirty, the room was not cleaned properly before we arrived the floor was dirty there was a dead bug covered in dust in the corner of the room. Bed sheets had stains on them and the curtains were dirty and old. The bathroom had something on the wall (green and dried up) above the towel rail it looked horrible .The bedside lights didn't work at all. VERY poor experience. I would not stay here again.
Rude staff, no cleaning.
Service in the resteraunt very slow, but food good!
We enjoyed our stay with our 1 year old, especially with the park located right next to the hotel. We appreciated the staffs help and do recommend it for people who definitely visit Amsterdam and spend all day out. Cleanliness was satisfactory and if it wasnt for the one mug found dirty in the room when we checked in I would give it a 5 star.
Liked the staff, the breakfast and the fact that it is a small hotel.
Amsterdam hotel
Amazing 2 night stay, very comfortable, great staff, easy access to the city by tram.
•Rooms full of dust •Dirty floors full of hairs and crumbs •Bed was supposed to be king size but was two small beds pushed together with a mattress topper on top •Bed lamps to close to pillow so you bump your head each time you get up Bad place i have stayed at
This hotel was very over priced. The common areas were dirty. Our room was also not very clean as there were nail clippings on the floor. The parking are was confusing. They told us to just find somewhere on the street but that’s not what the website said. The fire alarm went off in the morning as a false alarm. The additional almost 18 euros for breakfast was insane. There is no shelves in the bathroom to put stuff while you shower. The top of the shower stall was not cleaned it had someone else bar soap on top of it. The covering at the foot of the bed has spots on it from being soiled by a previous guest. Every time we needed the staff we had to wait for someone to return to the front desk.
Staff was great!
Transport links are very good. Hairdryers don’t work very well and not powerful. Friendly staff.
Quick stop over
Staying for 1 night after being at Zandvoort. Only issue we had was being on the top floor we had no opening window and the AC doesnt go cool enough for us. Parking was perfect and secure. We did see 2 smashed windows on other cars nearby so do pay for parking!
I don't recommend it!
The hotel is not located close to the city's main attractions, so you'll need a car or public transport. The beds are not comfortable, the reception is not very open to change, they were not very warm. Small bathroom and the bed didn't seem 100% clean, the room had cobwebs on the window and we found a small spider in the room. The hotel restaurant is not good, we had to wait more than an hour for our meal when there was only us in the restaurant and the food was not good for the cost of the dishes. There was a medium-sized spider on our table, which we informed the hotel receptionist who was near us at the time, but he didn't even thank us for the information. I don't recommend it!
The bastion hotel is a very nice hotel, small and just right for a short stay, the staff are lovely however at times it feels understaffed, one of our first nights the hotel smoke alarm had been triggered by someone in their room at around midnight and the only woman working had to try and work out how to turn it off on her own, it took around 20 minutes with the entire hotels residents in the lobby waiting. I found the bed to be slightly aggravating as even the king double room has two single beds pushed together which means always wake up sunken in the middle of the bed.
Meh…Poorly managed hotel
Disappointing! Most of the shower pressure disappeared out the side of the hose. Room safe did not work. Fire alarm went off twice at 4 am. Hallways were dirty. Pillows were lumpy and they did not have any extra supposedly. Not impressed. Location was good but management and condition was not very good.
Pro: Staff at desk on October 20th 2023 at 14:00. please give her a raise. she did an amazing job ALONE. taking care of atleast 6 groups. we all felt sorry for her. The management is definitely cheap. CON: Room 50 cannot be open to clients. the shower head was tied with a tie wrap.... the shower harwares were all rusted. the shower stall cannot keep the water inside the stall and spills all over the bathroom. Toilet seat: i mean make the effort to fix it in place. Toilet paper holder: same thing. make the effort to fix it in place. it is loose and always crooked. vanity: who designed this? you cant stick your head close to the vanity to wash your face, spill toothpaste. Heater: does not work or at least poorly. Booked for two adults and 1 x 4 yr old child and they gave me 2 single beds that are separated. unnecessary doors in the hall way that needs to be opened and raised tile. so if you have a large suitcase.... good luck. to do: simply NOTHING. public transport: 8 minute walk to closes station. not the end of the world but requires a steep hike of 30-40 steps. again if you ahve a suitcase, good luck. if you have to stay in this area, then stay at the Fashion hotel across this one. seems to be better.
Nice
The staff was very friendly and the restaurant with good meals.
Considerable distance from public transport. Not a good choice if you don’t plan to rent a car. Very poor breakfast and dining options in the vicinity. Safes did not work in 3 rooms and we finically moved to a different floor to get a working safe. Barely any housekeeping, dirty sheets were just left as is and beds were left unmade each day. Coffee cups were stained and the coffee cups machines barely worked. There was one coffee pod in the room for 3 guests. Needed to ask for towels every day since they consistently left 2 towels for 3 guests!!
Super nice, friendly staff. Relatively close to train station. But nothing else around. Room was comfortable but drools felt dirty and sticky :(
Didn’t like the bedding/pillows, protectors stained. Nice safe location and excellent breakfast staff
I enjoyed my stay here. The room was of a good quality for the price, and incredibly clean. However, as my room faced the road, it could be a little noisy at times. Also, the bed in the king room isn’t a king bed, it’s two twins placed together, so they do come apart sometimes. On site parking was very convenient and reasonably priced.
Okay but nothing better
Friendly and efficient Reception for check-in / check-out. Room small and could have been cleaned better. Noisy aircon that could not be switched off.
Booked last minute due to flight disruption and needed to be close to schipol airport for an early flight. The staff were reallt helpful and friendly and the room had all you need.
Nice staff
Great location for walkers, lovely walk through Vondelpark to get to the city centre. Very quiet at night. Clean and massive comfy bed, good air con.
This hotel was in a quiet neighborhood. It is within walking distance to the trams, making it easy to get around. The airport olis only 30 minutes away by Uber, and cost us 25 Euro.
Very quiet hotel with a very comfy bed! The staff was SO NICE. They have a bar and serve food, which is great after a long day of sightseeing. The location is a little off the beaten path, but only a 15 minute walk to the 17 and 1 trams which take you downtown.
Both Marcos on checkin and Valentino at checkout were very helpful, accommodating and informative. Our room was lovely and quiet. The dining experience was very good. Both helped us about trams and trains to get us to the Central Station and Zan Schaans for our boat. Highly recommend this hotel for its location and wonderful staff.
I had read some of the reviews so was a little concerned before arrival. However I was pleasingly surprised. I arrived quite late a night but there was still someone to check us in on the desk, we were given a choice of floors to stay on and the room was very clean, modern and supplied with everything we needed for our short stay. Breakfast was ok but expensive for what was available.
👎
Our room was dirty and the cleaners don’t clean the room properly
The receptionist was miserable and not very helpful at all. The king sized bed was just two singles pushed together, which kept coming apart. The mattress topper was stained. They claim to have an ironing board on request but didn’t. There’s no conditioner. Wouldn’t recommend.
Very well
Service depends on the staff on duty
There was no heating in our room. Initially, the hotel refused to change our room but a new manager came in at shift change and he upgraded us to a room with heatinf
Friendly - 24 hours available staff.
Very disappointing property for the price. Staff very switched off, bar was always closed and there’s nothing else nearby. Vending machine broken and empty. No alternatives offered. Room cramped and not very clean. Bedding - one poorly put down bed sheet, staff couldn’t be bothered to tuck it under. No mattress protecter so god knows when it was last cleaned fully. Don’t look under the mattress topper - some weird stains. Not very quiet - could hear someone singing happy birthday a few rooms away - great at 9am on a morning. Got the general impression that staff don’t care - cleaning cart left out, hoover dumped in a hallway and left there for 2 days. No information about the area or how to get places - even when we asked, we were directed to a roundabout - nothing else, just a roundabout. Would I stay here again? Quite simply no.
Not the best experience
Air conditioning not working in room which made sleeping really uncomfortable. On fifth floor overlooking motorway so opening window meant listening to a lot of noisy traffic. Reported it but nothing was done. Offered no compensation either. Room wasn't particularly clean either. Woman in reception was friendly that was about it.
Doesn’t deserve 3 stars.
Great transport link to centre and that is only good thing what I can say about this hotel. Cleaning are very bad. When we moved in, hairs was on top of the toilet, cobwebs on walls, lots of dust, floors are dirty, coffee stains on curtains etc…. The room very dark and there was not enough light at all, from my understanding it’s depends how lucky you are. They have rooms where a lot of day lights but they on side of the road. Customer service are unprofessional and rude sometimes. There is only one good guy working on nights, he is very polite, kind. Bald head. When they did the cleaning of the room, all these issues stayed and even better they didn’t left any towels… I would say it’s 2 star hotel not 3…
Lovely
Amazing location, friendly staff and nice rooms and restaurant. Strongly recommend for anyone that wants to see Amsterdam without having to sell a kidney for accommodations
Nice stay
Very friendly and helpful staff
Very convenient
Nice staff, good facilities. Sadly our room wasn't made up one day, but I do think many hotels are suffering with a lack of staff right now post-covid. I'd stay again.
Excellent value for money
Great stay, Staff were fantastic in both reception and breakfast. Also breakfast was very nice. A perfect location away from the city hustle but still close enough to public transport.
Visiting Amsterdam from USA
The Hotel is South of Major attractions, but we still walked to Van Gogh and Anne Frank... long walk though. The issue I had was the service. Lots of very young and inexperienced people running the Hotel. However, I understand the difficulty with finding good help these days.
Front desk staff were wonderful and very helpful!
Questionable alternative
Poor lighting. Bulbs out small toilet Sink too shallow. Over priced. Staff was limited but did a great job.
Meh
Unwelcoming receptionist- no eye contact or smile. Booked two rooms to sleep 5 persons. Only had 4 beds. Had to share a single with my child, and I’m 6’3”. No towels in either room on arrival. Found someone’s toenail in the bathroom - a welcome gift perhaps?
Staff were wonderful helping us move to a new room when the air conditioner was very noisy, but unfortunately we were moved closer to the road which was noisier. Building looks generally tired and in need of a makeover, immediate surrounding area feels like a no-mans land but train/metro is around a 10 minute walk and another 15 mins in the other direction to some nice cafes and residential area. Overall, a no-frills stay. Not worth the money.
Nice little hotel
Spent 4 nights at Bastion as a base to explore Amsterdam. Good 5 minute walk to the tram line. Hotel is clean but basic
It was close to the train station. The people staying next door were really loud throughout the whole of the night even at 5AM shouting and screaming. There was also banging which i presume was building going on really loud at 6AM which sounded like a hammer. Could not get much sleep.
What i didnt like was how Expedia quoted one price, then when i got to the hotel, i ended up having to pay more
Good stay but to far out from the centre.
All the staff should learn some maniers, they treat the customers like sheat... Also we expect if we book a room on a hotel which has got car park facilities, to can be used, not to be charged 15e/day to can park the car. Our room was on the sixth floor, we had an infant with us, they have a lift just until 5th floor, was a pleasure to go with the pushchair on the stairs... Room was very dirty with spiders on the walls.... Almost all the staff has no idea how to treat a customer
The best thing about this hotel was the price. The €15pp daily breakfast quickly eliminated that savings. Not very close to any other food options. Not very close to tram stop. Easy for Uber to find and just €32 to get to from Amsterdam central. In a residential area with canal and park. Very quiet at night with nothing to do near by. The room was small over all. The bathroom was very small. Shower was tiny. Had bigger in an RV. The beds were 2 singles and very low. The sheets were not fitted and came untucked easily. Ending up sleeping on wrinkled sheet or bed cover. Not a single USB outlet anywhere in the room. The switches configuration with the lights they worked made no sence. You turned on the bathroom light from outside in the bedroom and the bedroom light swich was by the entry. The Heat/AC unit had a fan that ran constantly day and night and was very loud. If you turned it off, it turned its self back on. The tv had glitchy satalite reception and dutch subtitles that you could not turn off. The wifi was inaccessable do to the terms of service page not being properly displayed. The front desk tried but was no help. In a nut shell.. I wouldnt do it again.
Breakfast was great. Staff even makes omelettes for you.
Location is great as it is well connected with public transport to airport and Amsterdam Central
The location is only 10mins away from multiple public transport options. Quite and room was spacious
Basic but value for money. Rooms surprisingly spacious.
so so type of hotel
pleasant staff, great cleaners for room cleaning helpful and efficient.the landing we stayed had a musty smell to it, shower was small. 7/10
Friendly staff and good location
Friendly staff and good location
Fine
Not bad for this price
Nice and clean, tram stop about 10 to 15 minute walk, no shop nearby, fridge in room, quiet at night so good nights sleep
OK if you smoked, cigarette butts behind bedhead and on windowsill. Room smelt very smoky, as did hall way and passage on 2nd Floor. Patio area below our window where people smoked which came up to our room with window open, so had to keep closed. Asked 3 times to clean room, told them where butts were said they would give it a good clean, but when we returned they were still there, also didn't replace towels.
In a quiet location, but tram stops nearby. Small and friendly. Very helpful staff.
They had a playground and was very close to two different parks. It was a good location. It was also near a tram and metro stop.
Pretty decent location! Super kind staff who let us check in very early which was great
Best hotel in Amsterdam
Amazing helpful staff. Super clean, really quiet, easy nice Coffeeshop filled stroll into the city excellent. Great beds. Receptionists are great bar staff amazing, food and beverages are top quality. Night staff happy to help and welcome you at all times. Will definitely stay here again. Don’t waste your time with city centre garbage. Book this hotel now it’s awesome
We were desperate to find good place to stay that night and grateful to be treated so well by the staffs and stayed in a very nice and comfy room.
My only interactions were with the clerk at the front desk, who was very helpful and welcoming. The room was comfortable and very clean.
Location good. Service excellent. Accommodation a bit small and bathroom in particular badly designed.
Bathroom is too small specially the bathing area. Rest all is good. Room size is good. The washbasin is too narrow, you cannot fill even a small water bottle.
good hotel, not far from city or airport
Much better than expected. A 7 min easy and safe walk from the tram, a couple more mins to the train station. One train stop east to the airport and one west to the city. A great location and quiet enough. Not many tourists around. Staff were great and attentive. Room was clean and fresh. Coffee machine present but no instructions and no tea. Iron and board available through reception. Provided within a minute of requesting. Telephone in the room didn’t seem to be connected. Shower was nice and powerful though it leaked out of the cubicle but no big deal. Bathrooms are pretty bijou but functional. Didn’t order breakfast so cannot comment. Would I return? If going to Amsterdam, yes, probably.
Bastion Sept 18
It a lovely hotel, I’m an ocd clean person when it comes to my flat and I ran Holiday Let’s in the past so I’m aware of the standards guests look for! When I moved the coffee machine I saw quite a lot of dust then further when I went to the clothing shelves and the higher shelves I found there was more dust for me this takes a minute per unit I clean properly! So this was the only thing I could fault really, otherwise great service, great people and a lovely hotel located to central for travel it’s not too far for the tram roughly 20 Mins and it flies by
The hotel was ok room was not cleaned staffs was ok could of been better not really happy won’t be coming back
Poor
On arrival we were told we did not have three rooms booked even though I had the confirmation on my phone. The lady said this was my problem that I had to deal with Hotels.com directly. An hour later she found the other booking information in a different folder by which time we had missed our trip we had booked for that afternoon. Fire alarm went off at 2am on our first night which didn't help either.
Stay Away
Very bad service. Stay away from this hotel. They have coffee machine listed in rooms but it doesnt work at all. After complaining 3 days they finally came to the room and took the machine away without replacing it. The cold shower was not working on hot water was coming out of the shower when I asked they said this is different in Amsterdam then it's in America. Location atleast 1km away from public transportation. So if you are planning to rely on Tram / Bus stay away from this hotel.
Good and economical, but a little remote.
Amsterdam has a heat wave and we had to leave the hotel we originally booked because the room was intolerably hot without air conditioning. We just randomly picked this one because it has air conditioning and were reasonably satisfied even thou it was about half a mile beyond the tram lines that go into the city center.
Good job
Very friendly staff, easy to reach Amsterdam center, very clean. Only two minor issues, the bed could be better and a broken toilet
Good hotel when the price is right
The hotel itself is fine, the beds are comfortable and the area is quiet. Check-in could have been a bit faster, but overall I was satisfied. Room cleanliness was a bit disappointing- I found pieces of Doritos chips at the bottom of my night table and a couple of long hairs in the bathroom. 25 minutes away from the city center by tram and not cheap, at least on the weekend that I stayed in the property. For 60 - 70 euros I wouldn’t hesitate, but for twice that much, forget about it.
Nice hotel, staff is friendly and helpful. Beds are comfortable and spacious. A bit away from the center but we really liked this area. The tram stop is walking distance and you can get to the centrum fairly quick.
Good hotel, except for super small & unpractical bathrooms.
Run from this Hotel!
If you want a place to stay that is filthy then this is the spot for you. Our sheets were actually not changed from the previous guest. Hair and dirt in the bed. Bugs crawling in the sink. Mattress pad I'm sure has never been changed. My bed smelled like smoke and urine. They insisted they could not do anything for me. I was under no illusions that this was a 5 star hotel. But I dont feel that Expedia should even include it in their site. The lobby was filthy in the morning and worse in the evening. Not a cheap hotel for living like this was a homeless shelter
Great place
Excellent location; close to parks; close to downtown; close to coffee places; just a great hotel
Good location for the city
It was very easy to get a tram into central Amsterdam each day. Bathroom basin very small and difficult but overall bedroom size good.
Very comfortable place, with nice staff, good breakfast. Glad we stayed there! Also close to trams and trains.
Modern, clean and comfortable
Very clean hotel with friendly, helpful staff and a comfortable stay in modern rooms. My only issue during my stay is that there was very little to do near the hotel, not even a small shop to purchase drinks/snacks etc. But overall very pleased with my stay and the standard of hotel.
Far from centraal Amsterdam but very comfortable.
Highly recommended stay. What i loved the most is how clean it always was. The beds are very comfortable and the staff was always very helpful. The room as spacious and contained a mini fridge, kettle with daily refreshed bags of tea, coffee, water and 2 clean mugs. My only problem was the location, the stairs to access the hotel were very sharp and the tram was far. however it was very close to vondelpark and Rembrandtpark witch was wonderful to go to by bike when the weather was nice!
Everything was fine except no kettle in the room also the coffee machine wasn't working. Ok for short stay but not recommended for a longer stay.
