Meh. Not what we were expecting and not superior.
Not what we were expecting from its descriptions. We booked a "Superior Room Pyramids View" room which turned out to be a small box with twin beds and a peek at the pyramids in the distance so we asked for a different room. Hotel had some nice parts, but what's the point of having a nice bar area when it's nigh on impossible to get anyone to serve in there. Breakfast was fine with good options. Staff irritatingly came and banged on our taxi as we were leaving for the airport at 5am saying we hadn't paid for our room (which we had prepaid at time of booking) and then proceeded to wander off when we go out of the car back into reception. Pizza in the Italian restaurant was revolting and worse than frozen. We weren't told that there was a buffet option in one of the restaurants even though we were there for three nights. The nightclub it claims is not used. The Pyramids are way further away than the 10 minutes it claims. I wish we had booked in Cairo itself and took a taxi into Giza for the Pyramids and the G.E.M museum (which is superb).
Poorly cleaned, low-quality rooms and rip-off taxi
We had two rooms for three nights for 5 people. When we checked in, the shower was broken in one of the rooms, and it was only repaired (by a very good caretaker) at 2:30am. The following day, the bottom of the bathtub cracked in the other room. When I asked about taxi to the pyramids, their in-house taxi counter offered it for USD30 per person (5×30=USD150 for all five of us). We opted for an Uber instead, and paid 132 Egyptian pounds (=USD2.60), so they tried to over-charge us 57-fold compared to the Uber. Not a great way to build trust between the hotel and its guests. The hotel offered us new tooms, but these were much smaller and a downgrade from our current rooms with broken bath tub and leaky shower, so we opted to not switch rooms.
Great hotel, horrible location
Lots of outside noise. Construction and dogs barking. Difficult to sleep. Poor location. Great hotel but two roads outside of hotel were closed. Recommend guests stay in downtown Cairo. Close to Giza is very rugged crowd and rugged roads. Power went out 3x during stay but came back on quickly
Barcelo truly has an Egypt vibe going on with the spacious lobby and black velvet chairs with gold accents. The Ramses Bar was elegant and resembles a library and the service from Joe (bartender) was the best! Only negative was the shower which did not work well.
Nice hotel. The staff can be a bit more helpful especially at front desk. Location of the hotel is not ideal due to its surroundings. Good breakfast and the restaurants serve good food.
Incredible that in the Cairo summer, with night temperatures close to 30 degrees, the hotel DOES NOT OFFER AIR CONDITIONING in the common areas, and offer limited cooling in the rooms…. In our room the coldest if got was 27 degrees - the air coming out from the central air on was simply not cold enough. And when we left the room at 4am to take a plane, we noticed that the aircon for all common areas was switched off and the entire hotel was stuffy and hot…. It’s unbelievable that a hotel under the Barcelo brand behaves like this for cost saving purposes!!
Overall all was good Hotel was nice staff was friendly. Our room AC didn’t go below 20. I did mention to the staff but nothing really changed our fridge in the room wasn’t working. They changed it but was slightly better. The pool was nice. Didn’t feel there was any chlorine in it and along the side of the pool was growing algae other than that was okay Luckily Uber works over there average taxi was costing us around £2 otherwise it would’ve cost me at least £10 per trip highly recommended
A great hotel in a good location. Has a good rooftop pool as well
I enjoyed my stay at Barcelo. Shout out to Sherif and Abdul from the property. We hired drivers on several different days and these gentleman were amazing. They assisted us during our stay and went above and beyond for this reason I will come back to Barcelo. The rest of the staff was great also.
Large building site adjacent, very dusty Happy with hotel & facilites. Helpful staff
Great stay
Excellent location. Nice rooftop deck with a very good restaurant and view of the pyramids. Enjoyed the pool and gym. The staff is excellent. Very welcoming and friendly. Really appreciate the free upgrade and excellent breakfast. Marwa , with guest services, helped me with my airline tickets . The only thing to consider is the booking tours office is overpriced and expensive, however, Mohammed is an excellent and safe driver.
Great hotel. Excellent breakfast. Great pool and gym. Convenient to the pyramids. Friendly staff.
So far very nice…
So far so good at this Giza-central hotel. Took about 45 mins on a busy Thurs night in Cairo to get to from airport but lovely breakfast, nice restaurants and beautiful pool.
The hotel is a bit tired. We had a few issues in the room. Response to our complaints were addressed promptly and rectified. Staff were efficient and couteous. There are very limited dining options in the area.
Great experience
First trip to Egypt and the staff were very warm and helpful.
The staff all around was excellent, from the front desk, to the restaurant wait staff, to the housekeeping staff, to the wonderful manager, Mr. Zaki.
Excellent service nice staff
We really enjoyed staying at the Barcelo Cario Pyramid Hotel. The hotel is well presented and our room was clean and cleaned daily. All hotel staff where happy, friendly, delighted to talk and help. We felt comfortable and safe. We enjoy all three restaurants. The cost of food is very low, the quality was good. We enjoyed relaxing by the pool between tours. Things to note. The traffic thru Cairo and Giza is crazy and it takes towards an hour to get into Cairo centre from the Hotel. It takes only 20mins to get to the Pyramids which you can see from the 12th floor restaurant. Currently (March 2023) a new metro line is being built down the street in front of the hotel making the hotel only accessible by car from the back streets - this wasn't a problem for our tour guides. We didn't experience any noise from the work. The ring road enables a good route from the hotel to the airport ~40mins, although we allowed 1.5hrs.
Great location. AC & Shower issues
Room was dirty and freezy cold , heating not working. Waiting every time 20 min for hot water under the shower. When we arrive the 2nd bed was not ready so we waiting untill 1:30 am someone to come to prepare the bed and at the end they just bring blanket without cover ... which is not hygienic. Toilet seat was durty with yellow and black mould ... a whole bathroom was durty with mould . Fridge doesn't work, pillow was flat and firm , wi-fi never go work we connected succesful but didn't work. The window have a foil with pyramid picture .... worst , worst , worst hotel ever
Fine for a couple of nights, wouldn't stay long
We enjoyed our stay are Barcelo although there was definitely some room for improvement. Our room was a good size, but the window didn't properly close so it was cold at night. The heating also didn't seem to work- it just blew out cold air regardless of what temp we set it to. The bathroom was fine but we found the water pressure in the shower quite weak and the water smelt a bit funny.
I like the front desk The stuff that friendly the buffet was OK
I paid for an upgrade for the pyramid view but they gave me a room without. Tried to move me to a smaller room. There was no view.
I liked everything… La comida, el servicio al cliente fue excelente.
Great staff!!!
Exceptionally clean and scented. Great services
Amazing
Ok
It was fine. As other hotels in EGypt it is not well kept and not very clean
Dirty, not well maintained, food is below average. Check in staff not friendly or knowledgeable
Insights: Positives 1- servers in the restaurant we’re kind and showed lots of effort. 2- assist manager was nice and made an effort to interact with guests but due t seem to be effective. 3- bell captains were very good and made an effort to help. 4- lobby is very nice Opportunities- 1- location and area this hotel is located feels not safe and is chaotic. Outside entry dirty. 2- two rooms we were in 802 and 811 rooms not on good repair: dirty odor in carpets; thermostat broken; tv not working; safe not working; shower leaks onto floor; shower moldy and faucet doesn’t work well; toilet flush sticks; all light switches and phones very dirty; drapes stained and dirty. 3- Halls ti rooms on 8th floor and lobby restrooms smelled like gas or like some strong chemical or doubt laquer. 4 - pizza awful; we let assistant manager know and he didn’t resolve it or offer to remove from bill. 5 - front desk check woman not friendly or professional 6- concierge was found asleep in his chair and when we woke him to get service - he wasn’t helpful or knowledgeable. 7- pool area not clean or inviting. 8- rooms guaranteed such as superior and pyramid view not provided. Even after complaining and verifying reservation. 9-coffee espresso machine in restaurant was broken. Making instant coffee not brewing it. 10 - no luggage rack to place luggage on inside room.
La experiencia fue muy buena ,seguro que volvere
not all good if you work with a Taxi sevices and the Taxi dont what to takwyou or care for you this is Bad very Bad
WiFi. Terrible . Rooms dated . Swimming pool cold not heated. Location poor.. views terrible
For people who wants to feel a real Egyptian Culture, the location is excelente. It’s like be part of those Indiana Jones movies!
The property is ideally situated close to the pyramids. It is a ways away from the airport though. The staff are so courteous. Special kudos to Riham. She epitomizes Customer Service and was always so kind and helpful. Everyone was helpful and cheerful and goes out of their way to assist. The breakfast buffet is awesome. The rooms are clean and quiet and the pool and bar are 5 Star. I am d we stayed here. It is an oasis in Cairo.
Staff are amzing and very caring for their clients. The only downside is the location. Overall its a great place with excellent staff.
I didn’t spend the night on that hotel I stayed about an hour and left the hotel because of the bad smell in the room and the many flies and mosquitoes in the room
Well this hotel look pretty old inside the room it wasn't very clean, the wifi is horrible but the breakfast was delicious. Be aware about the Tips they always want more than is supposed.
The view, location and treatment was beyond excellent!
The hotel was nice, but in a very unkempt location. They were very slow when things were needed, unless it was a costly expense!!!
Really nice hotel, good location.
Good hotel.
Egypt Base
Located close to Giza pyramids was stopping off snd starting point for Egypt tour.
This area of Cairo is not the best, but as soon as you step into the Barcelo you think you are in a rich area.
The staff was nice and the food was good. The lobby was immaculate! It was old, not very clean in the hallways leading to my room. You can’t see the pyramids at all from anywhere in the hotel, as i believed you could from the pictures. The pyramids are actually quite far away from the hotel. I didn’t care for the location at all either. It is next to a very busy road and it is always noise.
Every thing good Nice place Nice people 👍👍👍👍👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑
When we checked in we told the clerk that we paid for an upgraded room with a view. The first room had laminating floors that were washed with a cleaner that made the floor very sticky to walk on. There was a mattress on the couch for a third person and the view was of a tenement building with clothes hanging out of the windows. They told us that was the view... We asked for a room change and got a street view. We asked for another change and finally got an acceptable room..
Great bedroom
This was the second visit to this hotel and we were definitely surprised that we got a much bigger room than our last time even though we had a king bed and breakfast both times. I loved the double sink feature and we had separate shower and bathtub. Internet works well.
Nice hotel close to the pyramids. Staff are very helpful and the breakfast is nice. Rooms are fine.
The hotel definitely feels like a four star, the breakfast buffet was one of the best I’ve seen. However there were some shortcomings the wifi was unusable for basic surfing. We found a rotten tomatoe under the bed and requesting basic room maintenance or an iron would take at least an hour or never occur. I purchased this hotel to be closer to the pyramids but it wasn’t worth it. I would instead recommend driving from downtown Cairo.
A very clean hotel, everything in the room worked and the staff were very nice. Good food at the restaurants, a nice pool and an ATM machine in the lobby. Free wifi and a buffet breakfast, plus very close the the pyramids. Would recommend the hotel if staying in Giza.
We had to change three times the room: the first one with a small window facing a wall and the electrical system failing, the second was dirty (specially the bathroom) and with heavy smoking odor though we clearly requested a non-smoking. The third was the last, but carpet was dirty, bathroom as well. Water leaks into the floor thru the wall. Very hard mattress and pillows like a rock. We tried to use the announced shisha bar at the pool, nobody there, including the hotel staff. We had to run once big bats start flying over us in the open roof. Poor food quality and rough hotel staff almost everywhere. We had enough and although we paid in advance for two nights, we checked out after the first night and pay for another hotel. We are frequent travelers and also lived in Africa for three years, we know what to expect, but this time was horrible. We have stayed previously in the Barcelo chain hotels, management must to step up and correct so many issues.
The hotel staff where nice and amazing but the room had lots of noise people blowing there horns 24/7 I tried Changing the room to the back of the hotel they told me come next day at 2pm I get There they say it’s sold out but this hotel isn’t good to sleep in because it’s on a busy road and people blowing there horns.
The hotel was okay not the absolutely best. I would rate it 3.4/5
Can view the pyramids from the balcony and walking distance to the mall, stores, grocery store.
Stay away
Well it was an odyssey, first I had booked a junior suit. When I got there they gave me a regular room, with no windows and the bathroom full of water. Went down to complain because that was not what I paid for. The receptionist had the guts to tell me that the room he gave me was better than the junior suite. Then they took me to a junior suite and when we got there they were still cleaning it and made us wait about 20 inside the room, after a 20 hour flight I couldn't wait any longer so went down again to complain, it has been over one hour and still room less. I called barcelo corporate and told me they couldn't do anything about it. The manager got involved and they took us to two different rooms, they even offered me a room with 3 beds and said it was better, I told him what am I going to do with 3 beds hostel style? I paid for a junior suite and that's all I want. So I started calling another hotel because it was already too hectic, I asked for my money back and they wouldn't give it to me. After 2 hours the manager decided to give us the deluxe suite but we were so beat up and frustrated that we didn't enjoy anything at all. It felt like a really cheap hotel and it is a shame because we chose barcelo because it tends to be a great hotel company. Finally after went to check out, the same receptionist from the day before was there and told me with a grim smile if I was still upset. I simply didn't acknowledge him and walked away. Booked 2 nights at le meridien after that
The stuff are very nice the hotel was clean. Very good hotel
Good hotel closer to pyramids
It is a good hotel. Easy to get to pyramids. They organised few tours and transport for us which was good. Internet didn’t work most of the time. They said the problem is with their provider so hopefully it is a temporary thing. They have a computer room which was great. Good breakfast.
Exceptional service, very friendly, easy to make arrangements with travelling, transportation, great breakfast, sport room to watch world cup, nice spa and even hair salon
Horrible the food is disgusting the people dnt know how to help you the hotel is extremely and beyond dirty never again
Great stay
It was a nice place Clean and comfortable? The only thing is the area round outside it was uneven, a little dirty and kind of unsafe.
I don’t recommend it
Very crowded area hotel lobby smells bad tv is very small, check in took more than two hours. I wouldn’t recommend it.
Understaff in the reception
There’s only one receptionist at a time, not remember what clients requested, like 2 beds instead of one king bed, not knowing there was a guest computer room for printing boarding boarding pass, no printer connected directly with this computer. Room service was slow.
Busy hotel with god breakfast
Overall OK. The meals I aye there were really good
It is pretty close to Pyramid
I have really enjoyed staying at that at Barcelo. I don't really have concern except there is no WiFi and without internet staying at the Hotel is pretty tough. As a result I missed a lot of work at need to to do during my vacation at Egypt.Otherwise hotel is very nice and affordable.
could be much more better .
Me and my family have sepent about a week in this hotel, it's very nosiy as they have had wedding most of the time passing the mid nights. Also pepole working in the facilities are not knowing their job and they not expert at all any harm can happen.also the internet was down everyday end up we had to buy a mobile internet. The fridge was hot we have asked the reception more than 3 times to check but no one did respond to us . Unfortunately I couldn't get the refund to go to a different hotle as I have paid for this as part ok holiday package and it wasn't cheap .
Nice hotel
Nice big hotel, fast wifi, nice pool, has decent food, servers very nice.
Very good location
The hotel staff is very helpful. it is very uncomfortable go through metal detector every time yo go in and out of the hotel. Breakfast was not good very simple and food was not good , I will recomend to buy some staff to have breakfast at the room . Rooms are confortable but the cleaning is more for a motel 8 than a 4 star hotel but I guess it It! the same every where in Egypt for 2 o 3 days this is perfect
Nice hotel for Egyptian standards
The hotel is in good state, the beds are great and the breakfast is good. For egyptian standards this is excellent. There where some disappointing things; fruit in the fridge from previous guests, room could not close properly and most importantly the quality of the staff. Some where great and friendly, some (especially at the reception) where not friendly and helpfull. If they could improve this my rating would be higher. Further note is for Maher, the manager who fixes everything for you. He is amazing, friendly and helpful.
Great option
The hotel manager was very Helpful. The location, and price are great. I would recommend this hotel to mi family.
Do not recommend at all !
You can find a better hotel ! Pictures are not accurate at all !
Good but not up to standard
It was ok, not up to the 4 star standard. Staff at breakfast were great, esp Mr Fadi, and at swimming pool also mr shehata. Room facility was not great, to not working at times, cupboard hard to open/close, air conditioning switched off few times, wifi is rubbish so don't count on it! Some staff were after tips all the time, otherwise ur room would not be cleaned properly, which was bad. All in all 3 star is ok for it!
Good price
I stayed from August 10 to August 14, 2016. The hotel met my basic needs as a man traveling alone. My room was clean and had good AC. The TV was flat screen but 19-inch. Would have been nice if I was able to get FOX, CNN or some other 24-hour English TV news station. Hotel location is a short drive to the Pyramids and about a 30-minute drive to the airport. But the location is also in an area surrounded by many pop-and-mom grocery stores. Side streets and "sidewalks" were very dusty.
It's a very nice hotel
the hotel is very comfortable the reception girl there her name is Nermine she is very decent and nice she is very helpful plus she is always smiley ... But the house keeping and the laundry service there is very slow to respond .. The food in the room service is not that much great and the security service is a demanding desaster you'll hate going out and coming back in becuase every time they'll keep asking you for security check although they know you're a guest.. But overall the rooms are comfy the staff is nice and you'll like the hotel
The hotel was okay but the room service is terrible and they barely answer the phone plus the prices is very expencive compared with 7 stars hotel and the car parking service is exausting .... and the tv in the room was horrible it was like a laptop size tv .... But there was a reciption girl really really she was so nice and friendly and very welcoming .
Nice hotel. Excelent Service. Great location.
Will stay again everytime I go to Cairo. Clean beautifully designed installations. Staff very qualified and ready to serve you. Location is key to enjoy your trip. And this hotel is very well located.
'Very Good'
Very comfortable stay, good location in Giza. Nice Lobby & pool area is perfect to relax after a day out. Good breakfast & friendly staff.
Hotel close to the pyramids
The hotel in general is nice. You need to pass through a scanner when you go inside the hotel, which is a good sign that they take safety of their guests seriously. The room is of good size, with mini-bar and safety deposit box. The bathroom is of good size but quite dated and tiles in the bath need replacing. The shower enclosure is not great, which means that water goes to the bathroom floor when you shower. Our room is on the busy street side, which can get noisy. The hotel has 3 restaurants for lunch/dinner and we tried 2 of them and we enjoyed the food. Breakfast can do with more selection, but it is okay. Staff are friendly and they gave us a boxed breakfast as we needed to leave the hotel really early one day. The location is great as it is a few minutes drive to the pyramids. The hotel has a decent-sized pool and there is an area near the pool where you can sit to read and relax or have a drink.
1st time in Egypt
The hotel was very nice looking. Over all the experience and the customer service was really good however, I recommend not using the travel services provided by the hotel because they are overpriced and our driver decided to overcharge at the last minute once we get out of the car for extra services that we neglected to pay for. Please look out for these types of excursions or taxi drivers provided by this hotel. The hotel also is pretty loud and has loud music going throughout the night it made it hard after a long day of sightseeing to actually sleep. Room service was amazing and nicely priced. Had to change the suite as soon as we get there because there was a bad smell in the room. When we get to the other room the bedding was filled with hair from previous guest and we had to request brand-new bedding for the bed.
Nice clean hotel, on the main road, friendly staff
We booked through Expedia based on reviews and was also on the list of our travel agent. Breakfast was included. BF had a good spread, but maybe not most delicious. Staff is very good, polite. The hotel is on the main road and is well known. If we come to Egypt again, would surely consider staying here again.
Nice hotel, not a brilliant location
The hotel is comfortable and clean (although my bathroom needed a bit of a scrub), and very importantly, safe. It has everything you would expect in a good chain hotel; the welcome fruit basket was a nice touch. I didn't use the pool, so can't comment on this, or eat in the restaurant, but all areas appeared pleasant. The staff were in the main, helpful and friendly, particularly Mohammed El Sayed, FOH Manager. The hotel is on a very busy main road - cross at your peril, which the locals do, with great confidence - and there's not much in the way of cafes or restaurants in this district. Taxi ride to central Giza or to the pyramids - agree a price before you get in. You can get the Metro to central Cairo for pence. Egyptian Museum, Citadel of Salah-ah-Din, the bazaars, definitely worth a visit. Advise you get yourself an Egyptian guide though, whatever you do...
great stay
the hotel was good value for money and the staff were all very helpful
Okay hotel, not worth the money I paid for it!!!
Recently returned from our family vacation in Egypt where we stayed at the Barcelo Hotel. The hotel is located in a very busy are, quite noise, and not family oriented at all. The hotel itself was noisy with a bar/night club on the ground level that operated all night, and a hall on the second level for special events that played super loud music until very early in the morning. The reception/lobby area was nice and classy; seemed cleaned and renovated area. It is probably the only nice area of the hotel. Our family had two rooms (junior suites) on different floors, and we had bad experiences with both rooms. Small rooms and over crowed with furniture. Not clean at all, although the hotel staff claimed the cleaned the rooms every day. The bathrooms where old and nasty; black mold growing in different walls of the bathrooms. The rooms seemed old and not well maintened. We had troubles with the bathrooms, and the hotel staff took a day before we were able to use them again (not helpful - specially for family's with kids). Also had to call every day the reception foot ask for toiletries, which they claimed they put out when the cleaned the rooms. The pictures on Expedia are probably old pictures when the hotel was in better conditions. Definitely not worth the money I paid for two junior suites. Don't deserve the 4 1/2 stars Exoedia give the hotel. Motel 8 could have been a better option and cheaper!!!
No!
The staff is not well trained at all. House cleaning is very sub par with them forgetting to come back and clean on 2 occasions and using very little cleaning supplies and 1 dirty plastic bucket. It also was too difficult to fold towels neatly and sweep/clean floor daily. Also, check in process is not efficient. This hotel is strictly for the Beledi!
bad hotel in a lousy place
staff absolutely incompetent. breakfast room dirty and poorly managed. I signed and accepted an account at the Italian restaurant and the next morning they charged me a completely different account. This hotel is to be avoided
There Is no organization over there. They have problems with the alarm....
Could have been better..
The staff were very nice and accomodating. They made sure that I was always safe at all times. The only downfall to this hotel was the lack of view of the Pyramids and the air (AC) went out. I woke up in a sweat in the middle of the night and it took over an hour for someone to check the AC in my room. I moved to three rooms eventually checking out early.
Short stay at Giza
The Barceló Pyramids is a beautiful and comfortable hotel with good service. The only complaint was that our mini-bar was not in operation. The attractive rooftop pool area, gym and spa are a big attraction in the middle of hot and busy Cairo - a good place to relax and get some sun, with several restaurants and bars to choose from too.
Nice stay at Barcelo Cairo Pyramids
We had very nice stay at Barcelo during our 5 nights stay. Friendly and responsive staff, very clean room, and nice breakfast
Nice hotel, bad location
nice hotel, excellent facilities, rooms needs deep cleaning. Staff was awesome although they wake me up one night at 3pm! location is bad, noisy and very hard to access the hotel without arranged transportation. i was driving a rented car and the hotel offer free parking.
The Barcelo!
Great hotel for the price, but the neighborhood is loud and the took-tooks on the corner are a menace!
Cultural Escape
Being a foreign traveler and being told it's not safe to go outside without an Egyption escort was disconcerting. AC in room didn't go below 21 and the room stayed a constant 28 to 30 Celsius. But; the staff and car service were amazing, friendly and dependable. We also had a great Pyramid view.
Noisey qnd dusty
Can't sleep because of the noise is street. Also cleaning level is low , a lot of dust in the cortains
Two Weeks in Barcelo
The hotel and staff were great! They did a good job helping me with printing material I needed for legal matters. My first night in the hotel was in a room over the street and the noise was unbearable for me. They moved me to an inside room the next day and I slept like a baby the rest of my stay. The neighborhood left a lot to be desired but there's not much they can do about that.
Great value hotel
Public areas of the hotel were a good standard and showed no signs of wear & tear and the standard bedroom we stayed in was on a par with a 3 star in the UK. There was a fridge in the room but no tea/coffee making facilities so we bought a kettle a couple of mugs and some supplies at the local shop for very little money. Endless supply of scorching hot water in bathroom and shower was over the bath so you have both options. We made use of the gym and the swimming pool both good standard. Breakfast there was a good selection. We dined in the Italian Restaurant on our last night and the food although expensive compared with outside the hotel was of a generous size and well presented. I would certainly stay here again.
My week in Barcelo hotel in Cairo
Clean hotel with very friendly staff. I enjoyed my stay at the hotel and i would stay there again if i visited Cairo on another occasion.
Very Nice but disappointing
For the price the hotel was very nice...stayed beginning of March and it was unbearably hot in the room, especially during the night. There is a thermostat in the room but the central hotel air was not turned on because it was still "winter" so the thermostat couldn't be controlled. Left the window open for some air, but the hotel is located on a very noisy, busy street. Drains were clogged...Spoke with the manager who was unwilling to compensate for the miserable night in any way. Left this hotel for a far inferior hotel, but it had it's own AC in the room.
Average hotel
The hotel is not what I have previously experienced as 4 Star. The rooms lacks many amenities such as tea and coffee making facilities, iron, clock, bathrobe, slippers etc The only bathroom toiletries are shower gel, hand soap and shampoo. Smoking is very common throughout the hotel, as an asthmatic I found this very difficult to handle. The smell is disgusting. The staff were very friendly and always helpful. The location is average. On a busy road and not much within walking distance. Lots of traffic noise. Even with the windows shut rather noisy.
Great hotel, bad location
The Barcelo seems to be one of the few places in Cairo that has avoided the dilapidation that has come with the drop in tourism. The hotel is in excellent condition and is very clean. However the issue with this place is that it's located in the middle of Al Haram street which is very local. There is no where nearby to go eat unless you want McDonalds. You have to take a taxi to get anywhere, and they'll rip you off going either direction. It does not, in fact, cost 50LE to get downtown, despite what they will tell you at the front desk. On a legit meter it should cost around 30LE to go to the city center. I highly recommend getting the EasyTaxi app and calling your own cabs instead of hailing one on the street or taking the ones in front of the hotel. We ended up staying at a couple of different places in Cairo, and this way by far the most enjoyable place in terms of cleanliness and upkeep for a fantastic price. Just know that you'll loose some of that as you pay for transportation around the city.

The staff were really helpful and polite and our rooms were very nice. The hotel had everything we needed for our time in Egypt.
