Great Stay

The room I had was great, however there were loud noises coming from across the building at like 5am, which made it hard to sleep even with the ear plugs the hotel provided. Besides that I adored my stay.

Beautiful, clean, quiet room

The property showcases quality design ans details. The staff is attentive and professional.

The Austin proper is super beautiful. I booked this stay as I was intrigued by the Pilates and yoga offered at the property and called early to reserve some classes but was told to do so at the property. When I got there, I was told they had no class offerings for that time which was a big let down as it was the main reason I booked this hotel. The breakfast was amazing but the room service dinner was overpriced and underwhelming. Otherwise, the overall aesthetic and interior design are top tier. In room products are luxurious and attention to detail was on point.

The best luxury hotel in Austin by far

The Austin Proper Hotel, a Member of Design Hotels, certainly lives up to its name. It's undeniably stylish, with a distinct personality that sets it apart from the usual generic luxury hotels. From the moment you step into the lobby, you're greeted with a bold and eclectic design that's a feast for the eyes. Think rich textures, vibrant colors, and an impressive collection of art and furnishings. Here's what I loved: Design: The Kelly Wearstler interiors are a highlight, creating a luxurious and memorable atmosphere. Every detail, from the lobby to the rooms, is thoughtfully curated. Rooms: Spacious and comfortable, with high-quality amenities and those oh-so-Instagrammable bathrooms. Dining: The on-site restaurants, particularly the Mediterranean-inspired Peacock, offer delicious food and a vibrant ambiance. Location: Situated in the Second Street District, you're within walking distance of many of Austin's top attractions. Amenities: The rooftop pool and bar offer stunning city views, perfect for a relaxing afternoon or evening.

Stayed at Proper for a long weekend with my friend for a moms’ escape! It surpassed our expectations with the attention to detail throughout our stay. The property is beautiful, but the friendliness, efficiency, and welcoming nature of the staff were incomparable. Thank you for a weekend of feeling pampered and well taken care of. We are so grateful for the time to relax!

Awesome in every aspect.

The property was amazing great ambiance. The food was amazing at the coastal Mexican and Mediterranean. The staff was helpful and polite and the guest only bar was also unique with great mixologists. I will definitely come for another weekend stay here.

Enjoyed the dining and bar options on the property. Sophisticated design in lobby and guest rooms. Goldie’s & the Peacock Mediterranean Grill were fabulous!

Nice property if you want to stay downtown. The service quality is very spotty though. All very friendly but not trained to the level one would expect. Still a nice stay :)

I loved everything

I've stayed at this property several times. It always feels special.

Really enjoyed my stay here over the weekend. I originally had another hotel booked but switched last minute because I heard so many great things about this hotel. Liked that it was on a quieter street than some other hotels that seemed more chaotic. Highly recommend

Great new hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Lots of dining, shopping, and re reation opportunities nearby. Homeless people outside were disconcerting.

Exquisitely and Exceptionally Lovely

It’s hard to write a review that captures the essence and depth of The Austin Proper, but in a few words, I would describe our stay as exceptionally and exquisitely LOVELY. Every - single - detail. The design is immaculate, the service is truly 5-Star, yet personal, and the overall atmosphere is unmatched. We have stayed in many 5-Star “high-end” properties around the country, and this far exceeds nearly all of them - if not all of them. Cannot stress this enough, if you love luxury, relaxation, serenity, tranquility, service, opulence, design, art, food, drinks, rejuvenation and feeling romantic and lovely, don’t think about it any longer - stay here. (Special shout-out to the front desk, the pool staff, and Evie, who we saw each morning at Goldie’s - she truly sealed the deal. A true delight)

We had an amazing staycation here. Pool was fun, food options were great. Staff made a point to know your name. We loved it.

For $600/night, the view should never be only of a huge parking garage.

Place is beautiful and the staff is excellent. We did have some noise issues which is unfortunate, but they accommodated us as best they could and we’re very nice about it.

This was the second time I stayed at this hotel. The staff is wonderful and so helpful and nice. The room was exceptional with the balcony. Will stay here again.

Weekend away

Fantastic stay from start to finish, the restaurants are wonderful. Probably the best bars in Austin. Great gym and spa, with stunning interior design throughout the whole property. One of my favourite hotels by far. Oscar on the front desk was a star and the bell staff especially Micah just couldn’t do enough for us. 100 out of 10.

Great place for business or pleasure!

Had a great stay at this 5-star hotel! My wife also had a massage and face treatment, and also spent time in the sauna.

Hot water didn't work. Building engineers didn't show up until an hour later. They moved me to another room at that point it was 11pm.

Nice place

It was a nice stay. Hotel bars get extremely busy in the evenings but was not a problem. Our bartender Nick was great all week.

The hotel is superb from the ambiance and location, to the attentive and friendly staff.

The room was uncomfortable, tiny, view of side of parking deck, no drawers for clothes, so lived out of suitcase on the floor. One tiny table big enough for one, had to flip the trashcan over between the beds to provide surface area for pocket stuff. For the cost, no way we'd ever come back.

Amazing property! Everything down to the scent in the lobby was curated and extremely pleasing. Absolutely cannot wait to come back again!

Property is stylish and has great amenities, and the staff are great. However the 4.30am wake up with the Austin City trash collectors that lasts 1hr is awful. Property is safe, but neighborhood has a lot of homeless issues.

Great hotel. East to get everywhere. Great spa too.

The Austin proper is a thoughtfully curated space. The rooms are exceptionally comfortable and the shared spaces of the hotel are beautiful. The restaurants and bars of the hotel provide exceptional experiences and excellent quality food. While anyone can plan to have an enjoyable and relaxing visit to the Austin proper, the locals flock to the restaurants of the hotel in the evening, and it does get quite busy. This is a great place to mingle and meet young professionals, so do not plan to enjoy a quiet cocktail at the bar.

The best hotel ever

Don’t risk it, might not get the room you paid for

I did not get the balcony suite I booked far in advanced and also prepaid. If I wanted to stay in a basic room with subpar service there are a lot cheaper options. The blinds do not even cover the windows, far from blackout as advertised. Michael who checked us in said I can free dessert, well that’s far from the price differential for a balcony suite on a Saturday night during acl. I asked to speak with the manager he said he’s the only one here, later to tell me he’s actually the front desk assistant. I got no sleep due to the windows not being completely covered. The entire reason I booked this room is for the balcony.

Great hotel!

Definitely not a 5 star hotel. The service is 3.5 stars at best. It cannot be held in the same league as other 5 star hotels like Four Seasons or Grand Hyatt. It seems all the attention was put into the design of the hotel but they forgot to train the staff in the art of service. Optical illusion, all surface with no depth.

Appalling service

I stayed for three nights at the proper hotel for a business trip and had heard great things. However the service at this hotel is appalling. My room was dirty upon arrival and never cleaned over my three night stay despot me calling multiple times per day to ask housekeeping to come. I ran out of towels and water and neither were replenished. The beds are also super uncomfortable and the pillows are absolutely awful. Your head just sinks to the bed. It’s a nice property with cool decor but honestly that’s the only positive
