The property was hidden away on a side street. The room was clean and in decent condition. There were some marks to the head board. The private bathroom for our room was along the hall as opposed to being en suite was the only thing which stopped this from being a 5 star review. The whole staff are very good and responsive. I would recommend it to my friends, as location is great: 15 minute walk to collosseum, trevi fountain is about similar, pantheon a bit further like 30 minutes.

Staff were very attentive and so kind. They went above and beyond to make us feel welcome upon arrival and nothing we asked was to much trouble. The map we received on check in of Rome and the sites and the best way to navigate the city helped us immensely. Rooms were modern and clean. Minimal noise from other guests or street. Fantastic location 2 minutes walk to metro. Good local restaurants.

It was hard to find due no sign and not really any further description beside the building. 3rd floor and was surprised he wanted the city tax right off the bat. Pillow n bed were ok quality but it was a bigger room n bath room was great but very little shelves to place stuff. Great restraunts n historical areas n shops but at night seemed a bit scary to go out.

the bed in this room was TERRIBLE. The pillows were flat and worn out. The bed itself was hard and lumpy, and I could not sleep on it. The linens were not the best either. I checked out a day early because of this. The breakfast was in theory a nice touch but the quality of what was served was poor. The person manning the desk gave me an impression that he would rather not be bothered and when I asked for transportation arrangements to the airport (which I thought was included) he told me he could not help me. He also told me this when I asked him to call a cab for me. There's no outside signage to help you identify where the hotel is. There was no apparent way to control the climate and I couldn't keep the window open for too long because it was very noisy outside. I felt the area was unsafe and was warned by a couple of locals to be careful. This caused sleeplessness as I was worried. You are given a key card to operate the electricity and you also need this card to get into the room. I was not told this and thank god I knew to take the card with me. If I had not known I would not have been able to get into my room. The elevator is very small and can only fit two people at a time comfortably. The shower head jets were spraying in different directions and the pressure was not the best. Pros of the property- ceiling art and cleanliness.

Good News...Nice Staff, central location (edgy neighborhood). A good valuables safe. Less Good news...black mold above shower, broken towel rack. Poor lighting. Limited shelf space or storage. This property is at best is a 2 star hotel. Any time your first image of a hotel is a hallway full of garbage cans, you should be concerned. Pictures available.

Terrible experience and bad service

First night I got a room where the switches to turn on the light were broken. Also, the toilet didn't have a seat and there was no hot water. The second night they fixed the hot water problem and they changed me to another room which had silverfish in the bathroom. The third night the room's door was stuck and I couldn't get inside my room, so they offered le another room and they said I could go out to enjoy the city while they fixed the problem. When I came back, they had changed my belongings to they new room and some of my bathroom things where missing. I talked to the manager and she told me they couldn't do anything until they could open again the other room's door. Next morning I talked to the supervisor (who barely spoke english) and I told them that my stay had been terrible and If they planned to do something to compensate me. She didn't even apologize as I was standing there so I decided to leave and told them I was going to leave a bad review. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE UNLESS YOU WANT TO HAVE A BAD EXPERIENCE.

Supper clean, best location, lack of basic things

Supper clean in a very good location but I can not recommend it for a family trip for those who travel with a kid. There were not basic yet necessary things like glasses, water boiler and microwave there so imagine how we manage it with a baby! I do love the building, the owner who was a very kind person but honestly they need to consider these basic things to be there for their guest. Doesn't cost that much but make the room more comfortable. Wifi was super weak and disconnected many times.

The accommodations themselves were adequate, well situated, and very clean, but the service was so bad that we checked out a day early despite not being refunded for the final night. Short version: the guests were all accidentally locked out of their rooms due to technical difficulties with the key cards, and the manager refused to return to the hotel to let us in because it was after her usual working hours and she lives outside the city. Any hotel can have a problem, but it's generally good practice to try and fix it. Instead, management told us that we were probably just using the keys incorrectly and that she'd come to work at 7:30 the next morning to let us in. There was a lot of back and forth and unproductive suggestions before we finally got into our rooms, totally by fluke and with no help from management, after being locked out for nearly four hours at night. Should have been tipped off right away on day 1 when we had to wait for management to finish arguing with another guest before we could check in. Avoid.

Exceptionally clean, friendly staff

We were very happy with this place. It seemed to us that Rome was huge and just went on forever. I would recommend getting bicycles for you stay in Rome. They can be ridden almost everywhere in the city and you will get to see much more than you would without them. Plus its a lot of fun! Rent a bike on day one and use it to find a place with better bikes! (some are super crappy, buy you will be walking forever looking for the next bike rental spot) The air conditioner in the room turned on but I couldn't feel any difference, so we had to open the window. Luckily It wasn't insanely hot while we were there. Other than that everything was perfect.

Awful experience with owner

The location, room, cleanliness, and cleaning staff were all wonderful. I read other reviews that the beds are hard and the shower trickles water- this was true but manageable. We had an awful experience with the owner- their was some confusion on our arrival if we had in fact paid through Expedia or not- we wanted to confirm with our credit card if we had in fact paid already so we didn't pay twice. During the process she was rude, condescending and caused us to feel very uncomfortable during our stay. We were staying two separate days (one in the beginning and one in the end of our travel)- at check in she forced us to also pay for the day we were staying a week away and would not give us a receipt for proof of payment. Due to her unprodessionalosm I would not recommend a stay at this hotel.

Awful employee-possible owner

Their was some confusion regarding payment via Expedia when we arrived. We were told we hadn't yet paid so we wanted to verify with our credit card before paying which took 5 minutes. Before we made the actual call the employee, who we believe was the owner, was rude and condescending. We booked two separate nights (one at the beginning and one at the end of our trip)-she made us pay for both at check, was extremely rude and wouldn't give us a receipt which concerned us because we had no proof we paid and had to stay there one more night on our return to Rome. The hotel is a smaller privately run business. We found our room to be clean- the cleaning staff was very kind and helpful. The cleaning staff prepares breakfast which was very nice and delicious. I read in other reviews the shower trickles water and that was our experience as well. Overall, we would not recommend this hotel to others due to the hassle involved with the owner.

Arriving late at night, had to rely on local waiter, guesswork and a kind fellow guest who answered the doorbell on my last exasperated attempt and gave me passwords etc. Lucky he spoke some English or that transaction might have taken 5 times as long. It is hard to find. Maybe a warning email 2 days before would be a good solution. The room is tiny, bed not to comforable. Wifi and aircon worked. Did not do b'fast. It seems like a one night job. We had a fantastic stay in Rome, made partly by Ana and her lovely hotel. We were greeted with hugs and kisses when we arrived and was given so much great advice upon check in. Nice clean and quiet hotel close to the main attraction. 10min walk to Termini station. The stairwell stairs can be a bit slippery so be careful but the lift is smooth, quiet and quaint. Great hotel, clean, safe and friendly staff!

The hotel was perfect for our short stay. The reception was open 24 hours and the staff is really friendly and helpful. We appreciated that they helped us to print out our tickets for sightseeings etc. They also welcomed us very friendly, gave us a map and showed us where the best spots are on the map. The room was clean and the size was also perfect including a bathroom. Whenever we came back from a tour, the room was cleaned and we got new frsh towels. As we already looked at reviews about this hotel, we already knew that there is no sign on the outside with the hotel name. We were aware of that and therefore it was no problem for us to find the hotel by using the house number. It was also nice that we got breakfast in our rooms after calling the reception. The breakfast included orange juice as well as a hot drink of choice, croissants, jam, nutella, butter and rusk. The amount was enough and the hot chocolate really nice. The only thing that we did not like 100% was that the breakfast was very sweet, which we are not used to but others could like more. I guess this is more about where you are from and what you are used to. The location of the hotel was great and very close to the colloseo as well as to the Termini, which is the main station. All in all, the hotel experience was great, friendly staff, clean rooms and good location. We can definitely recommend the hotel to other people and would go back to this hotel for a short stay in Rome.

Roma

The hotel wasn't necessarily difficult to find once I stopped relying entirely on google maps. The buildings are numbered so when you find the building you may (if main entrance is closed) have to buzz into the building by selecting the name of the hotel on the outside (this was easy to overlook hence why it was difficult to find the hotel or know where to enter). Once you buzz the hotel, they will open the two corresponding doors and from there you will have to take a lift up to the hotel. Note: the hotel is inside of a residential building.

Great location

Kind and helpful staff. Small single room with a bathroom. Simple, adequate and clean. Disappointed the TV didn't have one English channel. Enjoyed tha breakfasts delivered to the room. The hotel was a 15 min walk or one stop by metro from the central train station. I had some trouble finding it's exact location on the street. There is no hotel sign, the door was locked in the early afternoon and the bell was not obvious. There were many condominiums listed so it was confusing. After a few minutes a resident of the building entered and explained where to ring. Overall it was a very pleasant stay.

It was a shock at first as its hard to find the hotel and when you get to the 3rd floor where the hotel is there is the smallest sign barely noticeable and doesn't state it's the reception (door was always locked and doesn't have a window) and as it was before our check in time the cleaner answered the door (receptionist didnt start until 2) and she didn't speak English - although very helpful! the staff were very friendly! Great Basic Hotel

The room was a very good value. It is unusual in that it is basically a few hotel rooms on the 3rd floor of a quaint old building. There is no sign on the outside of the building indicating it is a hotel. The instructions given by the hotel via email were very specific and helpful but had we not had that information with us, it would have been confusing. The room was very clean and everything is good working order. The desk person was very helpful and even lent us an umbrella without our asking. Part of town is older but well kept. I would give a 5 rating but for 2 faults: I was in the single room next to reception meaning it was very noisy (hear the lift and anybody in reception like they were in the room); and its very difficult to find (there's no sign and while the hotel gives instructions, its still not straightforward). However, in saying this ive stayed in 3 star hotels that cost twice as much and been a way worse experience. Its clean, its cheap, its friendly and, for a tourist visiting, all you need. If you're planning on spending a lot of time in your room, then this place isnt for you but all I wanted was somewhere to sleep and store my belongings. It was an ideal choice.

Nice hotel, but take your ear plugs!

This hotel has many good features. The staff are friendly and helpful, the location is excellent, the price is good and the breakfast (pastries and coffee) is delicious. It is very clean and tidy, too. However, it comes with 3 main negatives. The bed was the hardest thing I have ever slept on, and with hindsight would have been fine for a shorter stay than our 6 days. The hotel is hard to find initially as the area has the same name as the hotel, and it isn't marked anywhere on the outside of the building except for on the buzzer. The third, and really the biggest, negative was the noise. Our room was just off the reception, which is open 24 hours. This is great if you want to stay out late but it generates a lot of noise and at times can make it hard to sleep. It does feel like the receptionist might as well be in the room with you! I would recommend this hotel for a short stay or, if you are staying for longer, ask for a room at the back of the building. Otherwise, take your ear plugs!

Gem - Comfy Clean and Friendly

We loved this hotel - staff were very helpful and offered great advise. 2 min walk from the metro and around a 15/20 min walk to the Colosseum, also close to Roma Termini station. Comfy and clean with aircon too, breakfast delivered to your room. I would highly recommend.

Inexpensive- ok for a one night stay

My husband and I were planning to stay in Rome for 5 days and I did tons of research on different types of hotels in Rome. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: It was clean and clearly newly renovated (new shower, newer furniture, safe in the room as well as a small fridge) and very close to the train station as well as main attractions (Forum, Colloseum etc.). Breakfast was brought to our room each morning which was pastries and cappucinos (both were delicious) and there was someone at the desk 24 hours a day. They gave us several recommendations on places to eat nearby which was awesome and the staff was very nice. Cons: The hotel is located on the 3rd floor of a building and consists of about 6 total rooms.... which are located basically right behind the reception desk. It was a little... weird... you would hear each phone call or conversation made in the reception area and we could clearly hear our neighbors aka we had very little privacy. It was almost funny each morning when I would use the room phone to call the front desk to say we were ready for breakfast because you could literally hear the person talking outside the room without the need for the phone. Overall- if you are looking for a cheap night, clean bed, good shower and breakfast for a one night stay this is great. However, if you are looking for a romantic hotel/getaway for multiple nights, this is not what I would have chosen to stay in.

Excellent Cappuccino

My favorite thing about this hotel was my morning cappuccino. Our room was lovely with mural on the ceiling and window overlooking the street. It would have been a bit nicer to be more central, but the hotel is very close to a metro stop and termini.

Affordably priced, conveniently located.

Only stayed here for 12 hours. We picked this spot because it was a 10 minute walk from Termini. The building was super cool. The room was small but clean. The staff were nice. It only cost 55 euro for a night. It's not the location I'd want to base my entire vacation from, but if you just need a place to lay your head for a few nights and don't plan on being in the room more than that, it's hard to imagine going wrong here.

The staff is best in Italy

We stayed in Rome for a few nights. The staff was absolutely incredible. The woman who met us when we checked in and also when we checked out was the most hospitable and helpful that we experienced in our journey across Italy. She told us where the best restaurants were, the best cafés were and took extra time to show us around the hotel. It's a great place to stay, close to the metro and very safe.

Decent hotel really close to colosseum

The hotel itself was ok although the room was on the small side. We got the feeling the staff didn't like us which isn't nice when you have to leave the key at reception everyday when you go out and collect again when you return. The hotel was, however, very clean and they had a good turn down service everyday. Breakfast wasn't great, instant coffee with the same pastries everyday and really bad orange juice! There were a few other minor details that i won't mention because it will make me sound like i hated the hotel which isn't true! It's located really close to the colosseum and lots of nice café's and restaurants closeby. The price was good for how central you are but I probably wouldn't reccommend to a friend.

Nice hotel

Auditorium di Mecenate was a good choice for us as we wanted to be close to the train station. The hotel has an elevator from the ground floor (small but not as small as some). The room & bathroom were exceptionally clean - probably the cleanest hotel room I've ever stayed in. The room was large with a wardrobe & safe. Wi-fi was free and easy to access. The air con worked fine. the bathroom was a nice size - best for one person to get ready in, but two is possible. Overall a great value -- the neighborhood is surely a 'train station' area - not the best but I felt safe nonetheless.

Friendly and helpful

The front desk staff were very helpful with directions and restaurant suggestions. The room was small, but perfect for a solo traveler. The room I was in was right near the front desk, so it was a little noisy in the evening while getting ready to go to bed. Ask for a room farther away from the front, if you are sensitive to noise. When you leave the hotel for the day, they hold on to the room key. There is a safe in the room, so I felt OK about leaving the key behind. Great location!

Superb find!

We booked this hotel last minute while travelling from Florence. The location is a bit hard to find as some other reviewers have said. There are no "Hotel" sign outside the building as the Auditorium seems to use only 1 floor of the building. The other floors seemed to be business or condominium. So had to find it by the address, 44 Via Statuto and then you could see the Auditoium on the bell panel. The room wasn't big but was very comfortable and the shower was good. For the price it is the best you could get. The staffs are superb. Annatola(?), the lady in the morning, she's excellent. She gave us some travel tips, where to go and help us to organize rome travel itinerary. Would definitely stay there again.

Wonderful Staff but Disappointing Amenities!

The staff was wonderful but the room was disappointing and did not look like the photos online. It was barely and very basic. We could not sleep until 4:30 AM as the neighbors were partying hard... on a Monday night??? I guess I should have expected some of this from a bed and breakfast but still hoped it would be better! For 10 extra euros, I could have gotten a room in a hotel in a much better area.

Great staff & cute hotel

The hotel was in a unique location and was actually part of a large condo complex making it more like a B&B than a hotel. The staff was super helpful. When I checked in, the manager spent nearly 20 minutes showing me a map, explaining the layout of the city, routes to take to see the major sites, and the location of several recommended restaurants. During my stay, I ended up having a problem with a day trip I booked. The young man at the desk made several phone calls to straighten out the situation and was a tremendous help.

Great little hotel

Auditorium di Mecanate is a small hotel -- only 10 rooms -- with the lobby located on the third floor of a rather non-descript building...but just because it isn't showy doesn't mean you won't have a great stay. The people running the hotel are all very friendly & helpful & speak excellent English. The rooms are rather small (and the shower stall can be especially so# but cozy and quite sufficient for couples -- families may want to scrutinize the room pics as I'm not sure just how large the rooms for them may be. Love the fact that the continental breakfast is brought to your room! Great location with Metro subway station just around the corner and Termini #central train station) within easy walking distance if you choose. If you're looking for fancy schmancy this isn't the place but...if you want a hotel that will meet your needs with a trustworthy staff, clean rooms, good security, etc. etc. I highly recommend Auditorium di Mecanate. We had a great stay!

Great location, great staff, average room

4 stars for the location and the staff, 3 stars for the room. Actually the room itself was ok (I was there 4 nights), it was the location of the room. The place was hard to find because there is no signage (it's on the third floor of an apartment building) however the staff were brilliant. They gave great advise on planning sight seeing and their dinner recommendations were also good although most of them required a 15 mins walk and having been on my feet for 9 hours, that was pushing it. Breakfast was basic but good and it was brought to the room each morning. I had the single room (number 5) which is right at reception so was very noisy with people buzzing the door to the building and everyone chatting at reception but I guess that's why I packed ear plugs. The room itself was clean and comfortable however I do wish these places would realise that travellers don't need cupboards, give us a few shelves, a couple of hooks for coats and somewhere to throw our back and we're happy. I was also woken up the smell of exceptionally strong coffee each morning, to point where I could taste it and was finding it difficult to breathe, not great for someone who can't stand coffee. All in all, I'd stay there again but just not in that room.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!

I couldn't have asked for a better hotel, and I'll definitely be staying her whenever I return to Rome. The location is incredibly convenient; the owners will recommend incredible restaurants and such for the entire stay; and--best of all--they will bring a delicious breakfast to your room every morning. You just need to call before 10:30 to specify whether you want a latte, tea, coffee, etc, and they bring some fresh pastries, juice, and coffee on a tray. It feels wonderfully decadent, and I couldn't have asked for more. Also, the restaurant recommendations were great. I really can't speak much more highly of my whole experience. Suffice it to say, I had a marvelous stay in Rome, and this hotel made it as great as it was; I'll definitely be back!

Convenient Location and Helpful Staff

Let a taxi driver locate the hotel for you. There is no sign and the hotel is located on the third floor of a building surrounded by businesses. Once one exits the lift, a small reception area welcomes guests. The rooms are small (there are none with painted cove ceilings) but comfortable with a nice bath. It is one block to a metro station and there are several restaurants within walking distance. A typical European breakfast is served in each room because there is no restaurant on site. The accommodating staff goes out of their way to help the guests take advantage of all the sights in Rome.

I stayed in the Auditorium di Mecenate for four nights in Nov 2011 in the single room and had a great time. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, their knowledge of the area is excellent and seem to love suggesting what activities one could undertake during their time in Rome. The proprieter, as promised by the other reviews, was so talented at guiding me to access Rome - he knew what was possible and gave such excellent guidance that even if the bed was a bit hard he made up for all! Outstandingly friendly, excellent value.

The staff at this hotel are truly outstanding - they simply could not be more helpful or enthusiastic. From the moment we arrived ( first thing in the morning, before the previous occupants of our room had even had time to finish breakfast or check out!) they went out of their way to welcome us. They were also full of suggestions of what to see on our visit and the best way of getting there ( including tips about recent temporary disruptions to the metro system), and were even exceptionally helpful at the end of the next day, long after we had technically checked out! The hotel's rooms are fairly basic (this is not a high-end, luxury hotel ) but actually rather lovely - we had polished stone floors and highly decorated ceilings. Very, very clean, with modern bathrooms, fittings, fridges and hairdryers. The Continental breakfast of croissants, pastries, jam, nutella, etc, tea/coffee and juice is served in your room as there is no dining room. It was both delicious and plentiful - pastries utterly fresh, and a decent cup of tea to boot! The hotel is about ten minutes walk ( even with children in tow) from the Colosseum and less than that from the main railway station. There's also a metro station very close by. Rooms at the front can be a little noisy, if that bothers you, but the one we had at the back was very quiet. It is a little tricky to find- you have to know the street number - the street entrance is shared with other establishments, so no big signage outside All in all, a fantastic budget choice - I would be delighted to return, and wouldn't hesitate to re-book.
