The room was ridiculously small and we were isolating in it, more of a cell! Breakfast was fine, chose there presuming Chinese restaurant underneath was open, found out it shut umpteen years ago! Lady owner pleasant.
Good location. Very Clean and tidy. Breakfast very good. We had one of the older rooms with a sea view which was adequate for a couple of nights stay. However, Lei, the owner showed us around the rooms that had already been refurbished and they are excellent! Lei is continuing the renovations to bring every room up to a high standard.
It is a good place to stay, it felt homely and have stayed there numerous times and will return
Clean and tidy good location. reasonably priced.....
No wardrobe tiny room very much outdated in need of some serious renovation
Right on the front. Friendly staff. Nice big room. Breakfast was nice.
Well located bit on the small size small windows for the view clean enough
The caledonian Hotel 3 Star Hotel
The room was on the top floor and was reasonable spacious and clean. There is a lift but it is small and only takes 4 people. The breakfast was standard but service was quite prompt in the morning. The island authorities were digging up the road outside the Hotel in order to create a new Tram system along the front at Douglas. This work meant that there was a one way system in operation there and getting buses meant a detour to the bus station. The room was cleaned every day whilst we were there. We believe that the 3 stars was well earned. We did not employ WiFi whilst we were there.
Great location for the TT, Nice quiet room. Really enjoyed our meal in the restaurant.
Clean and breakfast was good but a bit basic for the price
The propery is very clean staff were very helpful Info about meal times werent clear I would stay here again
I was happy with the stay generally, however I was not overly happy with being charged a single occupancy charge when getting to the hotel I noticed that being in a room alone would have been cheaper - stayed £85 per night for two staying in a room and £65 for a lone person.
3 night stay to check out Douglas
Excellent location at the quieter end of the promenade.
Great hotel and restaurant
Good location, very nice staff. The room was comfortable and the room staff were great. Fabulous Chinese restaurant attached serving very good food.
Our holiday
Lovely island with beautiful countryside and quite towns with plenty of walks down glens. Vintage transport systems are excellent with good reliability and something only possible to do on the island. The islands heritage and museums are always worth visiting.
A great hotel that we would return to
We rang the day before asking if there was somewhere at the hotel that we could leave our case as we had a morning flight and the check in time was 2pm. We where told yes we can leave case there, when we got there at 9am our room was ready so we could check in right away. There is a lift to all floors, our room was large with a double bed and a single the bathroom was large with a very powerful shower. The breakfast was great there was a set breakfast or a build your own breakfast and a list of items that you can request for breakfast the following day. The dining doubles as a Chinese restaurant in the evening we decided to have out tea there one night the meal was very good. Over all the service at the hotel is great and the staff are only to happy to help you. The hotel is about 15 minutes walk to the town centre. In the road close to the hotel there are bus stops going both ways with a bus about every 20 minutes. Would we return again yes
Chinese run hotel on sea front
Basic hotel, in need of modernisation. Restaurant area was very nice. Breakfast was well cooked and nicely presented. Bedroom quite basic but very clean. Staff tried their best to be accommodating to our needs.
Hotel a little tired
hotel needs updating ,room ok,good breakfast.good location opposite the beach. There is no lounge to sit in except a very sparsely furnished room in the basement
At Caledonia for business stay
Comfortable room and helpful staff. The only problem for a business traveller is that breakfast doesn't start until 8.30 am, but I was provided with cereal and toast at 7.30am on the one day I had to start early and couldn't wait for 8.30 breakfast.
good location - suited our needs.stairs up to room a bit steep
Very friendly staff.. especially their breakfasts are amazing.
Its not a hotel, its a Chinese restaurant
Owner, told us if we used the lift we needed to pay one-hundred pounds if it broke, I'm 54. Was angry that she didnt know we were not having breakfast on our last day, although the staff were told. It is a chines restaurant and wreaks of food smells, no air con, very shabby.
Could do better!
This hotel appears a little 'tired'. Peeling paint on the hotel sign on arrival doesn't exactly instil confidence. Similar on the inside. Staff were pleasant enough though and breakfast was reasonable. The en-suite in my room was tiny, I couldn't clean my teeth without bashing my elbow on the wall. All in all, a tad shabby but it would seem that this is the case across the IOM due to a downturn in tourism.
Not the best expereance.
Tried to check in nobody to be found phoned contact no several times over the space of an hour finally got hold of someone and checked in.Booked bed and breakfast went down for breakfast no one to be found so no breakfast not impressed but to be fair to them they did refund £30 for 6 x breakfast.
The hotel was very clean, big bathroom. We were very happy with the service specially. We will definitely go back.
We chose this hotel because it was cheap and in a great location. We didn't expect much by way of luxury, and got what we expected. When we arrived to check in there was no staff member to be found, the courtesy phone didn't work, and the pay phone was broken. Eventually someone showed up and gave us keys. The room was small and the bed was made of rocks, but the view of the ocean was amazing and the tiny wedge shaped bathroom was the cutest. The Chinese restaurant downstairs serves delicious food and cheap beer and doubles as the breakfast room in the morning. Breakfast is full English with tea or coffee and was very nice. The housekeeper walked in on us getting ready on our first morning and then moved all of our stuff around when she cleaned. The next day there was no apparent housekeeping. Very strange. The elevator is very old and janky, but kind of neat and certainly functional. The biggest con is the uncomfortable bed and the road noise. Traffic isn't heavy but there was a loose manhole cover that clanked very loudly every time someone drove over it. The walls were also paper thin, but the other guests were quiet.
Unsympathetic owners - avoid
Due to Storm Brian no ferries were running to Isle of Man that day - however the hotel did not see that as a valid reason for cancelling and promptly charged me for the (overpriced) pleasure of not being able to get to the island. The call to the hotel was very difficult as the proprietor did not have English as a first language and as a result found it very difficult to understand what they were saying to me. Essentially it came to "tough luck - and we will still take your money". I will not be staying there upon my rescheduled trip.
Not a hotel just b & b
It maybe because I was on my own that I ended up with a poky room at the back of the hotel (and I had to pay a single supplement for it). Breakfast ok but why only for an hour between 8.30 and 9.30 with no leeway. In fact they started removing cereal, juice etc from about 9.20 apart from that no facilities at all. So much for the "constant stafff attendance " I hardly saw anyone at all during the day. Altogether very disappointing.
most enjoyable ,good location for the horse tram and buses, close to shops and restraunts
An average 3 star guest house Chinese restaurant
Room on the small side for a double. Only one chair. TV not good.. Only one type of wine by the glass listed on menu. Breakfast quality poor. Micro waved. No heating. shower only lukewar. Restaurant toilet on first floor of hotel. Lounge in basement down long flight of stairs.
At Caledonia
Like most of hotel/guest houses on Isle of Man, the fabric of the building, 'At Caledonia'is in need of some TLC and updating, not least some basic maintenance. However the staff were more than amenable and pleasant. Breakfast was ample and varied. Its location is quite a stroll from the town centre, but if you don't mind walking it is pleasant along the prom.
Basic B and B but served its purpose.
Breakfast ok but the start time was a little late at 8.30. Staff seemed to think there was only one person in our room as we only got one towel and one cup each day.
Trip to the Isle of Man
Everything went very well. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was bigger than expected with nice ensuite bathroom, Good to have a Chinese restaurant doubling up as a breakfast room
Good location
Good location for exploring Douglas and Isle of Man
Victorian Building on Central Promenade
The hotel is officially rated as three star which is about right, probably at the better end of the category. Once upon a time it would be listed as a "B & B Guest House". The accommodation is shared with a Chinese Restaurant on the ground floor that doubles as the breakfast room. Our room, No. 19, was on the fourth floor next to the lift, it was clean, well decorated, as was the rest of the hotel, large enough for us with a modern shower, temperamental but soon got the "hang" of it, and usual facilities. Also quiet even though next to the lift. The restaurant provided an enjoyable meal at the going rate for meals in Douglas. Steps up to the front, do not know if there was level access to the rear. Breakfast was good and a more varied selection could be had if ordered the day before.
Hotel was close to beach
The hotel was clean staff very nice & breakfast ok but the rooms are in need of modernisation. Not bad for the money. No real complaints
good location - handy for public transport
Were able to get about the island by bus, electric and steam trains using the Isle of Man transport 'Go Explore' cards. Unfortunately we only had 3 good days of weather (out of a 6 day stay) so did not manage to visit as many of the outdoor areas planned but did visit 7 Manx Heritage sites which were very interesting.
Keep looking
Booked for a colleague and have been told not to book any more stays there...oh dear!
Nice Guest House with a great location.
Good parking, good location, good breakfast. Advertised as a hotel but infact s guest house. On the seafront with easy access to centre of Douglas. I would stay there again.
Ok but needs a refurb
The hoteli's in a prime position on the Queens promenade.. Directly opposite the hotel is the beach and free car parking. We were not greeted warmly when we arrived which was a surprise as we are usually treated wellwhen we check in. However, the breakfast staff were warm and friendly. The room was small and clean.
In good location on the promenade.
We had a excellent stay there , sea facing room, very good breakfast, near to electric railway, horse tram passes outside with stops close by. Gaiety theatre ,Villa marina in close proximity plus another cinema.
Worse services ever
The room stanknow , could not be moved to another room. My phone did not work out there .Was unable to call you for another room on the island.
Poor
Where to start? How about cold water in the morning, in a cold bathroom, making a shower impossible … unless you thrive on that sort of thing. Finding a hotel employee who spoke English (or indeed, just finding an employee full stop) wasn’t easy. When one could be found, I was told that hot water would be available in “half-an-hour”. In “half-an-hour” I was told “probably, later”. For the next two days it was barely lukewarm. Breakfast was poor, with rubbery sausages and cardboard toast. It too was cold once and the milk was well off one morning. Lingering smells in the breakfast room (a Chinese restaurant at night) are off-putting. The room was adequate, but the decor was sad and the furniture shoddy. Oh, and there was no coffee in the "tea and coffee" making facilities on the first day.
Great place with Chinese restaurant and magnificent views over the bay
To give a written review would invade our privacy. Rest assured this hotel was a very good experience. Ratings are all we would wish to give as an indication of our experience.
Ok
Was ok, bit pricey at £75 a night plus I had to leave 7am both mornings and got no breakfast provided not even a continental as everything was locked up
tiny and dated room not like the picture
The room was one of 3 crammed into one of the original rooms. The bathroom was so small my partner had a panic attack whenever he went in. Breakfast was good and friendly woman running it. Other woman in evening was rude. Nowhere to sit other than in tiny room as Chinese restaurant occupies ground floor.
Overpriced, overrated and a dismal place to stay.
I arrived at reception to be met by an older lady who was frankly extremely rude and dismissive, she passed me on to a considerably younger lady who then proceeded to give me the key to a room I had not booked. After I finally managed to get into the room I had booked I found the room to be extremely cramped and frankly unclean. The hotel is a very old building which is in dire need of redecoration, access to the floors holding the rooms is via either a lfit or the stairs. The rooms are all absolutely tiny and have clearly been partitioned off from larger rooms and as such you can hear absolutely everything that goes on in the rooms adjacent and even across from you, in addition to this the very old and decrepit lift is extremely noisy and is likely to wake you up. The bed was very lumpy and the mattress was in dire need of replacement. The shower, situated in a very very cramped bathroom was absolutely disgusting with a considerable amount of mold and other disgusting stains, the side panel of the shower had warped and come away. I did not try either the chinese restaurant which seems to be the main focus for this business nor their breakfast as after the state of the room I felt that it perhaps would not be sanitary. Overall, considering that the island is distinctly lacking in reasonably priced accommodation, I would have rather slept in my car. On the plus side however as I booked through hotels.com I was able to negotiate a full refund.
This is a good clean honest hotel which I have stayed at before and the owners and staff are helpful, polite and looked after us during our stay and do recommend this

Great value in
The hotel is in a good location close the ferry terminal and restaurants pubs and shops. Breakfast was very good.
