Conviently located while a family member was in the hospital.
The beds were extremely comfortable. Some of the best hotel beds I have encountered and as someone with excruciating back/hip pain this was a major plus. There was even a chair with a slight recline and foot stool which helped to not lay in bed the whole time we were in the room. The staff were prompt, knowledgeable and friendly. They provided a few wheelchairs to use to and from parking lots/rooms which was very helpful for me and unexpected. The parking was easy to understand but if you don’t have handicap privileges or a compact car, you may find yourself parking a bit farther in the overflow. It’s very conveniently located near the Mayo Clinic. The breakfast left something to be desired but it was fine for grab and go. We enjoyed the coffee. Their vending machines were well stocked with snacks and they did have a few items available for sale at the front desk. Also we were close to some good restaurants. My one complaint that I was very disappointed with were the grab bars in the bathroom. There were 2 located “near” the toilet. One above the toilet paper and one to the left of the door. They were both placed so far from the toilet that they were completely unusable, and I am a 5’10” female. A woman of more average height would not stand a chance. Again, I experience excruciating back and hip pain. I (very frustratingly) had to have my traveling partner help me off the toilet every time. If these amenities had been functional, this would be a 5 star review.
No temp. control. No exterior windows just windows into the hallway so you feel like a zoo animal. Dirty bathroom (hair, stains, things falling apart). Rude front desk staff, all deciding to take their smoke breaks together within viewing of the front desk. Drips in lobby. Outdated. Unhelpful replies from owners in reviews.
Courteous associates
Desk clerk at check in was very personable and helpful.
Our room was very nice and we stayed for 4 days. The hotel was very cold in the hallways, entrance and the breakfast room. We took our breakfast back to our room to eat. They need more variety for breakfast. Our room was the only warm place in this hotel, but there was the contant noice coming from the vent because we believe of the hotel being heated by a boiler system. It was very annoying trying to sleep withe constant sound of what sounded like popcorn popping. We stayed there because of the convince of being close the St. Mary's Hospital and I having to have a procedure done. We will not stay again.
Overall, this hotel is good. The rooms were clean, the furnishings were very comfortable, the bathrooms were nice, and you can't get more convenient to the Joseph Building at Mayo. However, there was one employee at the front desk who was quite rude and not helpful. She set our entire stay off on a bad note and made us not want to ever stay here again. It might be good for the hotel to remind their staff that a lot of people staying there are dealing with an extremely stressful life situation and to be a little more patient and compassionate. Also, most rooms don't have actual walls to the hallway (they are windows instead), which let in a lot of light and noise.
The hotel was right across from St Mary’s hospital. We needed to be there for our son. Room was very quiet & clean & comfortable. We would stay there again if needed.
The only downfall isnthat the room stayed at 74 degrees no matter what the temp was set at. Other than that everyone was great!
Very clean and great location wonderful staff! Will be staying there again
Nothing
The front desk staff was very nice and accommodating. She allowed me to check in early. She helped me and gave me some advice as far as how to get to Mayo Clinic.
There was construction going on in the building in the middle of the night. We could hear saws and hammering and we were unable to sleep. Will not be staying here again.
Rooms were cold temperature
Good place, convenient to hospital
Clean, quick check-in, friendly staff
This is a great place to stay if you need something affordable, comfy, and close to the Mayo Clinic. My biggest complaint is that the windows face the hallway which then has a wall of windows to the outside. So you can’t get direct sunlight without having the blinds open but that allows other guests in the hallway to see into your room. Other than that, it’s perfectly fine and clean to stay in.
Front desk lady was rude from the start when we checked in. No new towels “available”, no soap available in the bathroom (just empty dish soap) with no bar soap. We asked for a late checkout over the phone (talked to Ivan), we were told it was ok to checkout at 4pm if we payed a $60 fee. We said ok. When we checked out the front desk lady Lee told me that she corrected Ivan and would not honor what he said, that he was wrong for giving us the information and we had to pay for the whole night due to the “late checkout”. The whole thing was a nightmare, a mess. No manager available on the weekends either, which made everything even harder. I’ve never written a bad review about a hotel before, this one was the worst mistake I’ve ever made.
Excellent location and fair price
Everything is neat and clean. Parking is kind of sucky
The room was 76 degrees and I wasn’t able to adjust it. I told the staff and they just said it’s an old boiler. It was so hot and humid in there I left right away and got another hotel. I checked the vent to see if adjusting it made any cold air come through (it didn’t) and I noticed a bunch of black mold. The shower head was disgusting. There was an ironing board but no iron. NOT worth that money!
So glad we stayed there
The place was immaculate!! The rooms were so clean and so was the lobby and hallways!! The bed was comfortable. There was a lot of options for channels on the tv, and when you are in a hotel room and that is all you have to do, that is a great thing!! We would definitely stay there again!!
Very clean, Staff was very friendly. Bed was very Comfy
Most comfortable bed-ever
My child is in St Mary’s right across the street, so this was the closest hotel to visiting. I was shocked at how cozy this place is! The front desk gentlemen are kind and welcoming. The room very clean. The BED though…the sheets are made of clouds, I’m sure of it. So. Comfortable. They also come stacked with 6 pillows! I slept better than I have in weeks. I will always stay here when I come back to Mayo.
Great for hospital visits
Very convenient to St Mary’s hospital, right across the street. Offers coffee and fresh cookies in the evenings. Continental breakfast was ok. Staff pleasant and helpful, rooms clean with fridge and microwave.
Furniture in room needed to be replaced. Lots of old dinged up and cheap stuff.
No hot water the first night of 2 night stay
No hot water
There was not ANY hot water. When I ask about a discount, I was told the whole building did not have hot water. I did NOT receive a discount because I booked with Hotes.com. Everyone else received a $30 discount. Good location - that’s about it.
Would stay again
Friendly people. Good value. Good location
Close to St Marys
Wonderful stay at Aspen!
It was calm and comfortable
Staff was very helpful, beds were comfortable, will stay again.
Great place to stay if your loved one is at Mayo Clinic!
really nice rooms, wish the 'pet' rooms werent on the third floor
We enjoyed our stay. The only problem that we had was in the day/night of our arrival. We were housed in room 410 and there was an constant, irritating noise coming from the vent in the bathroom ceiling. We tried it the first night but it kept us awake. In the morning we talked to the desk staff (who were all wonderful) and they promptly moved us to another room.
We love staying at Aspen Suites! It's always clean, accessible to Mayo Clinic and the shuttle is very convenient! We highly recommend staying here.
All was nice, I prefer a larger room Will try aspen suites next time 😊
My husband and I always stay at the Aspen Select when we come to the Mayo. Its directly across the street from the St. Marys campus and 1 mile from the Methodist Campus. The Aspen is stylish, has comfortable beds and clean rooms, with a good variety breakfast. The staff is also very personable and very helpful.
The AC was not working properly. The front desk brought me a fan and tried unsuccessfully to fix it.
I have stayed at this site a number of times and it was always great
Dated furniture and mold in tub wall area. Breakfast was good.
The staff is amazing and its a very nice place to stay and if you can check in before 8pm you get amazing cookies, we unfortunately missed them the last stay. They have a nice area on balcony to eat breakfast.
Conveniently located across from Mayo Clinic / St Mary’s. Also, walking distance to a decent restaurant.
Nice
The check-in went smoothly but when asking the desk clerk for any other help or questions he was not very friendly. The rest of the staff was very friendly. We will probably stay there again.
Is was a old
The only natural light in the room was the large window that went into the hallway. Other than that it was fine.
acroos from the hospital.
Right across the street from hospital.
Convenient to Mayo Clinic
The convenience to St.Marys & the parking available is wonderful.
Great room
it was located directly opposite the hospital entrance i was using. it couldn't have been more convienient
It was OK and the rate was fair.
Our room was dingy. Rugs were stained. Room was clean. Breakfast good. Location great. Overall hotel needs major upgrades.
Nice motel
Nice place. Friendly staff, clean. I would stay again
Front desk night staff was very friendly and helpful. He made a call to our room to check that we didn't need anything and were happy with the room.
The managers were very accommodating and extremely pleasant.
It was quite and clean place for me & my family to stay the night. Breakfast was great
It was ok, room was dirty he fixed, but breakfast was limited
Located across from hospital! Great location.
Water in shower not hot enough.. Cumbersome tv remote usage. Had to put a dash in for a dot as it was sattellite tv.It was very awkward. No hot breakfast. Unable to use senior or military discount..Was advised since I booked through expedia I couldnt use them. Check-in was very easy and smooth..
Stay away
My worst hotel experience on this side of the ocean. Air conditioner in my first room couldn't cool enough. Breakfast is basically non-existent - mainly unhealthy stuff, no hot food, plus they run out of some things. Moldy shower heads. Tiny pillows. On top of all that, there was some domestic violence case which kept us up the second night.
Mayo Clinic appts
The hotel was very quiet, staff was great and room was clean. No complaints. We have been staying ar this hotel and the Aspen Suites since January 2021. Very pleased
Very clean and quiet
Been here two times before. Very attentive and respectful help at the front desk. One of the few hotels with a recliner chair in each room. My sleeping preference! Thank you! Nice continental breakfast. Will stay again whenever I am in Rochester!
Very kind helpful staff. Clean room, comfortable beds! Great view!
Wonderful place to stay if you are at the Mayo hospital
Rochester Hotel
Nice place. Staff was friendly. Many hotels here.
Great property great staff
Loved
Staff was very friendly!!
The overall staff experience was nice. The rooms are much smaller than made to believe. The bathroom has mold all over the ceiling of the shower, even though i mentioned to several staff members that our bulk shower items (body wash and shampoo) that are hanging in the shower were empty, they never did get restocked. When you turned on the air conditioner it would rain in the bathroom sink area and something was dripping in the ceiling above the toilet the whole week.
Nice room
This hotel is right across from St Mary’s. It has a shuttle to Mayo or you can walk to St Mary’s and take the patient one there. Several places to eat close by. Breakfast does not offer anything hot or healthy except fruit. That was the only thing negative about staying there. I will stay there again and would recommend this hotel.
The staff was amazing - especially at check in.
Pros: Really like the room and the outdoor patio. Easy check in, friendly staff, clean & comfortable room. Easy access to Mayo Clinic - St. Mary’s campus. Will stay here again when/if we come back. Very reasonably priced! Con’s: parking is a little wonky & Expedia said they had a pool. Really wanted the hot tub!
Nice location by Mayo Clinic and reasonably priced.
Beware to the woman traveling alone
I checked in alone. I was there to sleep then return to the Mayo Clinic for my sisters surgery. Told the lady at the front desk I had a long drive and couldn’t wait to rest. I noticed two guys hanging around the elevator but ignored it. She put me on the 6th floor. I went out to my car to gather my things and she was outside too. I assumed she was on a break. I went back in and went up to the floor….It looked to be like they were updating. There were several chairs sitting all down the hallway. I did not pass one person or hear anyone else there. I had the do not disturb on my door. I was laying in bed talking to my husband on the phone. I told him I was gonna rest a while and he said make sure you have the top lock latched. I heard two guys outside my door speaking Spanish, and I assume the lady from the front desk say she checked in alone. I assume it was maintenance guys. Idk. They banged on the door. I didn’t answer. So they proceeded to come on in. If it wasn’t for me having that top lock latched they would’ve got in on me. He looked through the crack of the door and they left. I immediately gathered my things and left the hotel. I could’ve been asleep or in the shower. Then they could’ve done whatever. I had drove 14 hours alone and was fine from Kentucky to MN. I don’t get scared easily. Beware to women traveling alone. Very bad feelings when I arrived and kept telling myself I was overreacting. Always go with your gut feeling.
We had our pet along, paid an expensive price (pet deposit) for a dark, dingy, smelly "pet friendly room". It was an inconvenient room, noisy, up town type environment but was ultimately convenient for medical appointments and cost of initial room is low.
I had family in the hospital and it was very close to Saint Francis hospital.
The smokers stood right outside the only entrance which forced us to walk through them. The breakfast was very good and we had a friendly greeting when we checked in.
If you need a wheelchair, you might not get one. First night checkin wheelchair was available. Second night, after a 10 hour day at St Marys, there was no wheelchair available. UNDERSTAND, Aspen Select does not guarantee wheelchairs. But a hotel property this close to Mayo St Mary's hospital should be able to guarantee the use of a wheelchair. Otherwise our stay was pleasant.
Nice quiet well managed property
Very close to Mayo Clinic. Across the street! Reasonable rate thru Expedia
friendly staff, clean rooms, just smelled a little funny; like wet dirt, earthy
Makes A Hospital Visit Simple
We were down to the Mayo Clinic St Mary’s campus in Rochester Minnesota for surgery. This hotel is literally right across the street. This made it easy to get back and forth during our 2 days. A bonus was free parking. The Canadian Honker restaurant is also right next door with simple homemade food and pleasant staff. Try the coconut cake.
My stay was excellent except for a musty smell which we thought might be dirty carpets. Excellent staff.
Staff, especially desk clerk on Monday evening (April 29) was very helpful and friendly. We would have liked to have been given more information on the breakfast. When they said continental breakfast, we thought it would just be rolls and maybe juice. And we didn't know where it was until we asked. We found there was much more than we expected, but by then we didn't have time to eat. We had been there once before, so they may have thought we knew..
The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.
Great stay!
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Staff was helpful and so friendly
Good
The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. It is a smaller hotel but worked for what we needed it to. Parking was very limited so we had a harder time finding a spot in their designated lots. Room was good size. Great room for the price paid.
Nice ztaff
Having the things done at St Mary’s and this place is directly across the street. Room was larger than expected and clean.
Close to st marys
Fresh baked cookies each evening, very friendly and accommodating staff, right across the street from St Mary’s Hospital, good restaurants within short walking distance, very convenient parking, and adequate breakfast included.
Rooms do not have windows. This info should be available when making reservations.
