It’s a really a good place to stay. Snow crab included in dinner buffet!
Great bath house and amenities. Buffet was over crowded.
A great place to stay. We enjoyed the 3 days we spent here. Our room was exceptional with a private onsen overlooking the river and the mountains. The food choices were varied including western meals, Japanese meals and Chinese meals. The hotel is located away from any other amenities and a taxi or the hotel bus has to be taken to go to any sights.
Great place to stay room was spacious private onsen is a must if you are going. The only complaint is that the hotel can get over crowded and the food was not that great although there is plenty of options.
great place,will come again
We stayed at Asaya for 3 nights and it was one of the more memorable experiences during our 2 week Japan sojourn. All the staff from the front desk crew to other supporting staff were very friendly and it was obvious that they strived to make our stay enjoyable. The buffet dinner and breakfast were excellent with a great variety of Japanese and Western items. All were freshly prepared with local ingredients. The decor of the property has a very distinct 1980's vibe but the management manages to keep the hotel in good shape and the facility is very well maintained. All in all, highly recommended if you are in Nikko area.
Great place to relax. They have three public onsen baths and we booked a suite with in-room hot springs bath. There is no much to do around the hotel, but Nikko is a fee train stops away. Breakfast and dinner buffets were expansive and highly recommended. Staff are always friendly and polite.
This was our second stay at Asaya and we booked a suite with in-room hot springs bath. We enjoyed both public and private baths. There is nothing much to do close by, so we chose to stay back in the hotel, enjoying onsen, relaxation and their award winning breakfast and dinner buffets! Fabulous staff and service, as expected of Japanese hospitality!
Best hotel ever
The hotel is very nice on the inside, but the area outside looks derelict. Also my own fault, but the area is not close to the major Nikko areas, it took us about 2 hours to get to the Kegon Waterfall, or about an hour to the Toshogu Shrine with trains that came hourly. I wanted to explore the Nikko National Park but wasn't really able to complete that part of the trip. However, if you want a relaxing trip from Tokyo, this is a great place to go. Keep in mind that Taxi cabs from the Station are about 1600 Yen but they do offer a 200 Yen bus that you can arrange beforehand.
Rooftop onsen and high end dinner buffet
Very nice hotel and good service.
Great hotel, amenities, room, and food. Could not be more pleased.
Extremely well appointed hotel with many luxury items including. The buffet was top notch. Everything about the hotel get top score. The town however, was a dump. Not much was open within walking distance
Interior of the hotel was excellent. The staff was excellent also. Our room was very nice with lots of room but we did have a room with a private onsen. We had a room with a view of the river which was nice but several abandoned buildings along the river.
Great view
Nice and relaxing. Plenty to do on property and the baths were great
Very relaxing
Great food and facilities. A little tricky to get to, but there is a shuttle bus if you arrange ahead of time. Wish we had more time here.
Nice buffet and staff service was excellent. Baby friendly hotel as well.
The room was clean, spacious, well stocked with all kinds of teas, and comfortable. The outdoor bath was so beautiful. Food was amazing and staff super friendly and helpful. We had a great stay.
Stay here if you want an Onsen experience in Nikko
Very nice hotel with incredible buffet for dinner and breakfast. Staff are so attentive and helpful. Hotel is by the river with constant calming babbling sound. Within walking distance to the Kinugawa Koen station. As we were walking toward the front entrance, the staff came out from the inside to greet us and guide us to the checkin counter. How nice is that! The Public bath is very nice even with different brands and types of shampoo and products to choose from. There are bath robes of various sizes to choose from in the room. We stayed at a traditional room. When we returned from dinner, the beds were already made on the tatami. And the buffet, oh man, is so impressive both in variety and taste. So glad we picked this place to stay!
Everything is fine. No complain at all.
A beautiful hotel with wonderful amenities, including three large onsen and a great restaurant. We were happy to book with the half board package because there weren’t many restaurants nearby. With the half board, you get a full buffet breakfast and dinner, and both were really good.
Perfect place for couple
Super relax and elegant place perfect place
The staff was wondering, accommodating, and so helpful. The location was great to go sight seeing and then to come back and relax. The food was very good, and my children enjoyed the playroom! The room was comfortable and met our needs. I can not wait to go back again.
Onsen was excellent and the services from the hotel was super good. All the staffs were nice and helpful
Magical Open Air Onsen
Awesome open air onsen. Great buffet selection
Good stay with helpful staff and unusual hotel Good buffet meals and nice onset Is good 20mins drive outside nikko and car was needed
Great hotel! Clean, kind staff, delicious meals, great view
Excellent hotel.
We had a private Onsen 'pool' on our balcony. So convenient and v useful. I used it a few times each day. My mother soaked her swollen ankle in the Onsen and it really reduced the swelling within 24 hrs. She loved it too. (My parents had the same private Onsen next door.) The hotel is huge w/ 2 buiding connected on lobby floor. The Japanese style rooms are the best w/ huge lounge inside.

Excellent service. Perfect location. Room a bit small
Very nice hotel, although there’s no shuttle bus that takes you to the hotel from train station, but there’s a city bus that takes you and pick u up right in front of the hotel
Great Onsen but not a good hotel
The Onsens are amazing and the staff was great but it was an incredibly odd experience for us. The hotel is really outdated, the lobby only plays Christian church music from an old organ (No, not kidding) and we were almost alone in the hotel, despite hotels.com claiming it was fully booked. The dinner buffet was also very poor and we got a drink after in one of the bars but we were completely alone which made us feel uncomfortable. There is nothing around the hotel either so we ended up going to bed at 9 PM. To sum up - All other reviews are old and most are positive so I'm sure the hotel used to be a lot better but I'd stay somewhere else..
Nice onsen
This hotel have three different onsen, I like the rooftop open air onsen that’s very nice. For the indoor Public onsen I prefer the new building located at lower ground floor. For the breakfast and dinner is very valued, a lots of variety to choice. Only the location I’m not really like it, it’s too far from station, have to call Taxi.
Very friendly and hospitable staff and great service. Recommend this hotel for visiting Nikki, Japan area.
Fantastic Japanese experience Onsen was great .Food was very good
Great hotel in art deco style with shiny brass etc
Quiet location with outdoor bath to view the sunrise. Local sites to hike to.
Wonderful hotel and spas
A great experience! So many spa features to choose from. I suggest trying all of the amenities. And the food was spectacular. Many food styles to choose from.
Hidden gem
Very nice hotel that was unexpected in such an out of the way destination. Lovely backdrops of the mountains. Peaceful and tranquil. Great food and staff all made me feel welcome.
Best Hotel I've ever stayed at
I was only able to stay at Asaya Hotel for 1 night, but that night was one of the most amazing experiences of my entire life. The staff here are extremely kind and helpful. It was my first time in Japan, so we got a little lost and were going to be late to check in. We were worried we wouldn't be able to get dinner, but we called them, and they extended our dinner time for us. They also helped dress us in our yukata and taught us how to tie the obi. The onsen was also amazing. They have 3 different floors for the onsen, one of them being on the roof. The view from the rooftop onsen was absolutely stunning. You can see into the valley and see the bridge from one of the onsen baths. When we were leaving the hotel, it was raining, and one of the staff came running after us with umbrellas for us to keep. Overall, it was a 10/10 experience. The staff was super nice and accomodating, the hotel is really grand and well maintained, and the onsen was super clean, relaxing and beautiful. The only thing I regret is not being able to stay here another night.
Second time at Asaya, and it's an absolutely gorgeous hotel. Great baths (public and private), great view of the river, and an absolutely magical atmosphere.
Interior Stateroom on 2 Star Cruise
Ended up checking out immediately and went to hotel next door.
Excellent onsens
Love just love the rooftop onsen which has an amazing mountain view, also the other two onsens are very nice, everything was so clean. Room is alright, kind of old, but its clean. Lots of variety at breakfast. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The decor of the hotel is an eye candy, high and you can see the elevators up and down.
Extra top up required
It was rather easy to get to the hotel. However, we were told at the hotel that we had to pay extra for 2 children. At the point of booking, I was told that the room could accommodate 5 persons, thus I don't have to pay for 2 children.
Far from Nikko
We booked this hotel under the impression it was close to Nikko, it is not. It took an extra 45 min to get there, via train and then taxi. However, the staff was delightful and we were the only foreigners around (we liked that). Breakfast was buffet and abundant. There is an onsen onsite, but we did not use it due. The room was dated but clean. The website shows Japanese traditional rooms, but we got a western style room instead. Few staff spoke English, but we were able to communicate with limited Japanese and hand gestures. We were thankful they tried so hard. If you want to stay close to Nikko this is not the best choice. There is not much around the hotel other than other hotels.

perfect buffet meals and onsen bath options
