Excellent and beautiful inn with delightful features and comfortable beds.
Enjoyed the heritage property and the breakfast was amazing
I liked the “classic old style” of the property and rooms.
Good not Great
Overall, the stay was good. Room was clean and well kept. The building feels a little weathered, lots of marks around the rooms, cracks, etc, and the room showed this. Staff was helpful but always seemed in a rush. Food was okay, parfait to start and french toast. Just not quite enough for a three course meal. Was a good stay, not great compared to other BNBs in the area.
What a great place to stay! I love the old building and the decor! Place was quiet, comfortable and the breakfast was top notch!
Beautiful place! We really enjoyed our stay at this incredible inn. The bathtub was a highlight and the service was top notch. The inn keeper prepared such a delicious breakfast and was there for anything we needed. Highly recommend staying here!
A beautiful property at a very reasonable rate. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic. I will definitely be back
Lovely property & friendly staff! Thank you!
We did enjoy our stay. Was neat to see the history of the building and property. Breakfast was a nice bonus!
The property is what's unique. Staying in a 19th century Victorian mansion should be on everyone's bucket list. We chose the perfect time for our stay with no snow. Would have liked to have seen more of the home, even in pictures, but we were only there for one night. Even so, just imagining how bustling that home would have been in the late 1800's is awe inspiring. The parties that would have been thrown there. So kewl.
Staff was friendly and professional. Breakfast was excellent. Room was quiet, bed was comfortable. Would stay again.
The property inside and out needs a good clean/improvements. The outdoor stairs are a safety concern. They are very steep and IMO should have non-slip treads on them. We stayed in 2 different rooms over 3 nights and went from disappointed to very disappointed with our stay. We are aware that it’s an old house, however, the rooms we were in showed signs of neglect. Heavily stained/soiled carpets, cracked sink/poor drainage, poor lighting, no instructions regarding how to work the TVs. Our 2nd room didn’t have a mini fridge and we weren’t told up front that the tv box wasn’t working so no tv! Poor communication.
Amethyst Inn is an absolutely stunning Victorian era hotel. The room was wonderful and the bed was very confortable. We loved our stay here. Amazing experience. The breakfast was wonderful and the staff were lovely. The best stay in Canada so far.
Very good place, clean and delicious food served. Owner is very humble and the lady who answered phone call is very exceptional. Thank toy and will visit this place again and again.
Amazing and grand house from 1860. The house alone is worth seeing, and its many antiques and stained glass windows. Breakfast was lavish and delicious despite there being no menu. She just brought things unbidden but they were all good. Fresh fruit parfait, a warm cheesy roll, French toast with more fresh fruit and whipping cream and a sausage. Good coffee filled repeatedly too.
This was our second stay at the Amethyst, a Victorian mansion with all the design, fittings, original antiques and original furniture in excellent condition, just a couple of blocks from Craigdarroch castle. They are great people who are always anxious to please their guests. All this plus free parking and a 3-course lavish breakfast a few blocks from downtown and who could ask for more?
Great stay, great bed, great breakfast.
Beautiful heritage Victorian house with large, clean, comfortable rooms. We stayed in the Duchess room , which had a four-poster King Size canopy bed. The furniture was antique and in very good condition. It was a charming room, complete with two wing chairs and a jetted tub in the bathroom. Breakfasts each day were wonderful. Every breakfast began with a fruit parfait containing grapes, blueberries and raspberries - topped with some vanilla yogurt and a sprinkling of granola. This was served in a cut crystal stemmed dish. There was a warm bread offering next. Breakfast mains changed each day and were delicious. Food was served on fine, antique china in a beautiful setting. The cutlery was silverware. White tablecloths and fancy folded napkins enhanced the breakfast dining experience. The staff were warm and welcoming. It was a delightful experience. The location was great for walking. We could walk to the inner harbour, Rockland Road, Craigdarroch Castle, Government House, Becon Hill Park, Cook Street village and restaurants - each of these destinations in under 40 minutes.
AVOID! This is where luxury goes to die. I checked in after hours. The staff member, who I later found out was the owner, rushed me through the process and did not help me with my bags. Upon entering my room, I found it extremely run down. The carpet was filthy, and there was a pungent smell in the bathroom. There were dead wasps in the corner of the room, cobwebs, thick dust on the baseboards, and dirty walls. The room was chilly and only got colder during the night. I attempted to turn up the heat but the room did not warm. At 2 am, I attempted to reach the staff member multiple times, but there was no answer. After an hour, I attempted again, and the owner answered. The individual was not able to understand what I was saying. After attempting to explain the heat situation for several minutes with no resolution, I ended the call. After a sleepless night due to the cold, I attempted to speak with the owner in person about the lack of heat. She immediately barged into my room and pointed to two thermostats. I told her that I had increased the temperature on one, to which she shook her head and pointed to the other, which was off entirely. She was not apologetic and said nothing as she left my room. Given the dirty state of the room, I did not stay for breakfast. Despite being booked for two nights, I left after the first and moved to a hotel, despite being told there would be no refund if I did not stay the second night. I would give a zero-star rating if it were an option.
Very nice house and excellent breakfast
Beautiful house.
Breakfast was fantastic and staff very friendly
Nice property in a neighborhood close in to city center of Victoria - quiet, accessible and easy to get around.
An exquisite experience in an antique Victorian bed and breakfast! It is a huge old Victorian home of the 1890’s and all rooms are with unique design and antique furniture…so beautiful! There are 3 flights of stairs with no elevators and no elevators, but you get used to that and the ambiance is worth it! The 4 course breakfast that comes with the price of the room is AMAZING and stunningly beautiful! Every day homemade fresh baked pastries ( scones or buttery croissants or blueberry muffins or cheese scones, etc). The food is served like service for queen! Unbelievable the quantity of food served for a formal breakfast EVERY day in the dining room! This is a must-stay-at inn if you are visiting Victoria! The staff are all so personal and lovely! We LOVED staying there 4 nights!
Wonderful property, breakfast was superb. You do have to carry luggage up stairs to your room. Lovely Victorian home.
The place is magical and beautiful, that I'm sure of. But there is a smell to the place, if you are smell sensitive I would not suggest. Also the cutlery there were really really old which I thought could be replaced other then that the place was heavily and magical.
Excellent
Amazing breakfast. Good value for money.
Fantastic property, very friendly, helpful staff and amazing breakfast. Would highly recommend!
Wonderful breakfast and staff was lovely. Regents room was spacious and clean. The exterior of the property could use some care, as the front stairs were visible rotten and sinking. But overall a very fun historic stay.
Beautiful character home. Delicious breakfast provided.
Victorian Inn in the middle of Victoria. Old turn of the century charm with modern conveniences. Lots of stairs. Fabulous breakfast in the morning!
Lovely Victorian experience in a beautiful old home. Comfy beds. Great breakfast. Quiet. Walking the area is beautiful as lots of lovely estate properties to see.
Low low ceiling
LOW LOW LOW CEILING There was nothing in the booking or the photos pointing out that you need to be hunched over all the time If you are 3 feet or taller you can stand up straight Our room was advertised as QUEEN or King and it was a Double There are NO ELEVATORS and YOU HAVE TO carry your own luggage up 3 floors
There were limited staff on hand. We left our luggage before check in time. We were given a key to the front door. When we returned at 6 pm the lobby was empty. We had to shout to get someone to attend to us. We eventually got taken to a room in the attic. Being 6 ft 5 in the sloping roof made it uncomfortable. In good accommodation they see my height and put me in a room with suitable ceilings. There was no info on how to log into the Wi-Fi The hotel interior looks grand and the breakfast was good
Perfect setting for peace and quiet. Stunning house and surroundings!
Beautiful victorian house! We enjoyed the delicious breakfast. Kim is a great host.
Beautiful victorian estate… lovely!
Wonderful in every way! We were pleasantly surprised with everything! This is the best place we ever stayed in.
An amazing historical property.
The interior looks amazing, was a very enjoyable stay.
Wonderful Victorian property. Lots of stairs so if you have difficulty climbing stairs ask for a room on the second floor. Only bathtubs on 3rd floor. No air conditioning so 3rd floor can get quite warm. Great breakfasts freshly cooked but chefs choice so if you don't like eggs talk to them about options. Plenty of parking, Close to Oak Bay for restaurants. Lovely hosts and staff.
Very nice place
Breakfast is very good. But it’s noisy if someone flush then you can listen.
A well kept Victorian building with history. Excellent breakfast! Good service. Great value for the price.
Carpet/furnitures are dusty, cleanliness is a concern. Molding smell in the room. Dim lighting. The shower room is a joke because there is a tub only, can’t even stand straight due to the weird shape of the room. Sound proof is bad. I know this is an old building but it needs at least a full painting and cleaning if you want to do business.
What a beautiful house. I'm completely in love. It was so peaceful and quiet. The breakfast was amazing. So delicious
Excellent service and the breakfast was spectacular. We will stay there again.
loved the antique wood work . The staff was wonderful-friendly and knowledgeable. We forgot some of our belongings and got a phone call to notify us..Unfortunately we were in the ferry line up so they agreed to mail it to us..
Needs a bit of clean up and a paint and repair in certain areas. But we realize that it is a heritage building and is an old property.
This was a lovely old manor house with Victorian decor to match! Our bed was very comfortable and the room well furnished. Some brighter bedside reading lamps would have been helpful and the Wifi was very weak in our bedroom, but stronger out in the hallway. The staff members were friendly and welcoming and told us everything we needed to know. The breakfast was generous, delicious, and nicely served. The location was very central; you could walk to downtown in 30 mins. A charming area of historic homes with some restaurants and stores nearby. We will return to the Amethyst for sure!
The Inn has a lot character and the staff were very responsive and pleasant to deal with. The common areas were very cool however and the furniture is generally uncomfortable to sit on. (The bed is fine though.) Our room would have benefitted from a comfortable sitting chair and a standing reading lamp with higher wattage than that in our bedside lamps. The lighting was generally on the dim side. The breakfast provided is excellent but we found it odd that while each day’s offering was different, no menu was provided so we never knew what was coming! The location is walkable to the City Centre in about 35 minutes but there are frequent public buses to/from the Inn (get a Day Pass for $5).
Not in great condition - good location
The house was absolutely gorgeous at some point, BUT I fear the current owners have not been able to maintain its upkeep. The images on Hotels.com or their own site are old, and do not reflect accurately the current condition of the place. Ex: there was blue tape keeping down raised wooden floor slats right at the atrium. A lot of the decor clashes with the style of the house and feels a bit garage sale. The outside of the house is probably what was most unappealing to me. Even during winter months (time of our visit), I think an effort should be made to maintain clean grounds, free of trash, or clutter. Please beware you will probably need to take several flights of stairs to get to your room (quite exhausting while pulling luggage up and down). The bed/mattress was very uncomfortable, woke up with back ache. Positives: Kind and friendly service, the room was clean, and the breakfast was delicious. The location felt safe and close enough to main parts of town. I do recommend the place as a safe and friendly place to stay, but adjust/lower your expectations. I do hope they get more business so they can fix up the house.
Such wonderful service and an amazing 3 course breakfast that was included. The inn is so stunning and all the decor and details were beautiful. Cant wait to go back!
We loved the house and the beautiful interior decor. The room was very charming and the soaker tub was beyond delightful. Breakfast was delicious and very filling. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The only reasons we couldn’t give some things 4 or 5 stars is due to cleanliness. The exterior needs a good power wash and paint job, it looks run down. The interior has some maintenance issues and our room had some dust buildups. Some of the common rooms had cleaning supplies left out for long periods of time. But we overall loved it and would recommend for the price.
This stately old manor has an amazing role in the history of Victoria. The property feels like a time shift with all the old furniture and fixtures. The breakfast in the morning is a great way to start the day.
Amazing place! Quiet, clean and friendly. must the breakfast
The renovations on this property are exceptional. Great room and I loved the breakfasts. Very pleasant to deal with. Will definitely return to this property.
Don't be fooled by the pictures. It's terrible.
Terrible in every possible way. The place is extremely dirty, smells like mold and it was filled with multiples noisy machines running to dehumidify it. It's not a proper inn. Whoever is running it is absolutely clueless on how to do hospitality and hygiene. Room was very stuffy, dusty and with no ventilation at all. Bad vibes and a pretty high price too. Was extremely disappointed, with over 100 hotels visited (many of which are historical houses), I have to say this was the worse.
This was a beautiful property. Our room was wonderful, so comfortable. Loved the huge soaker tub. Breakfast was delicious and the whole experience was amazing. At check in I told one person that I was vegetarian, and without ever having to say another thing my breakfast was served as a vegetarian option.
Amethyst Inn was amazing. The breakfasts were incredible! Such a treat. Wonderful staff
Went back in time was so much fun.Didn’t go out because we just wanted to enjoy the room.So much for your eyes to see and let your mind go back to a time you only see in the movies. The staff were so friendly and told us all about the house. Will be staying there again.Loved it
Excellent breakfast!!
We loved our visit. Felt like stepping back in time to a more genteel era. Quiet, comfy, and delicious! Will def come again.
Great service with amazing food
Loved how unique it was. Everything was lovely from the service to the complimentary breakfast.
A very beautiful historical older building with lots of charm. Great parking. Helpful and a accommodating staff who allowed us to park our bikes inside lobby. Excellent breakfast that will fill your boots! Lovely lady serving! Clean comfortable room and bed!
Love the decor and environment - beautifully decorated and unique. Unfortunately we cannot return as they use chemical fragrances in the room/laundry/bedding that is triggering for migraine sensitive people
We liked the character of the property and the breakfast was outstanding. Staff were quick to help fix the tv problems.
Safe and quiet
The breakfast was great.
It was a beautiful unique property - old Victorian style but will all modern amenities. The breakfast was fantastic. A great place to stay
Old mansion with very interesting features . Property is in need of some maintenance but fine.
Beautiful and Historic
Beautiful historic house, we loved our room and the breakfast was great! Their scones were the best I've had. Very clean and surprisingly so quiet even though it was a full house during our stay. We would definitely stay again. The exterior could use some paint and fix ups and a little updating to authentic restoration on the inside but it's still a beautiful house .
Clean and quiet and only a 25 minute walk to downtown. Loved the delicious breakfast that was served in the cosy and comfy dining room. Very comfy king bed and enjoyed the huge jacuzzi tub.
The house itself is amazing, having been lovingly restored by a prior owner. The breakfast was very good and the room was nice. But the outside is totally neglected, with no gardens, overgrown shrubbery and almost nowhere to sit and enjoy the grounds. The front stairway to the house hadn’t even been swept in a long time. No afternoon tea or wine and goodies. Instant powdered coffee in the living room. No interaction from the owners and the guests (the young lady who greets you to the home and serves the breakfast was nice). Wonderful neighborhood.
We enjoyed our stay here. The service and the breakfast are awesome!!.
very hot room on a warm day. Limited options for fresh air.
Beautiful Historic home. Memorable experience. Great breakfast on English Bone China.
Welcoming and lovely historical property with comfortable rooms and delicious breakfast. Very enjoyable stay.
Wonderful! What a beautiful place and the daily breakfast completely exceeded our expectations. I would stay here again and reccomend it to friends. (Also, only about a 30min walk from downtown or a very easy commute by bus, with stops very conveniently located)
Lovely stay.
A beautiful hotel decorated in the Victorian style. Very clean and comfortable and lovely friendly staff. Excellent breakfast.
It's a uniquely decorated heritage House that really gives you a feeling like you're back in the Victorian era. It's everything a normal hotel would have but with a more home like vibe!
Wonderful historical architecture with huge rooms
Need a coffee service in lobby for early risers; blanket, shoes and dirty dishes in parlor made it look like a hobo camped out there overnight
Stunning property. The room was beautifully furnished and had a large tub in the bathroom The history of the property is interesting and well documented. Staff are very friendly. Easy walk to the ocean and Craigdarroch castle. Breakfast was delicious but the dining room is soooo quiet you can hear every single chew from each person in there (gross). The only thing negative I have to say is that the bed was like sleeping on a wooden pallet. Awful mattress.
Great place to stay. Eggs benedict for breakfast are agreat
It was a very beautiful Victorian Manson. Room was lovely and breakfast was exceptional
My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Amethyst Inn. The highlight for us was the beautiful, classic interiors and the delicious breakfast, which included a yogurt and fruit parfait, a muffin, and eggs benedict with roasted potatoes. The exterior of the inn is also beautiful and adds to the charm of the place. However, we did experience a few downsides during our stay. Firstly, the bathroom door was very hard to close, and the bathtub made it a little difficult to take a shower. Secondly, they do not provide toothbrushes, which was a bit inconvenient. Despite these minor issues, I believe this hotel is still worth recommending to anyone visiting Victoria. It is conveniently located, with a 10-minute bus ride to downtown and close to the Craigdarroch Castle. The service was friendly and helpful, and overall we had a pleasant stay and would consider returning in the future.
Really liked: the historic property itself, antique furnishings, great location, parking spot, and outstanding breakfasts!!! Needs improvement: Staff are very nice but really need basic hospitality training in how to interact with customers and better English language skills needed.
Great little unique place to stay!
Nice room. Beautiful breakfast room.Friendly service. Personally i would like to see the outside maintained better. (Stairs, flower beds)
The property was beautiful. When we arrived there was no one to greet us. We rang the door bell and no one came. We walked around the building. We came back later and rang again--no one came. We knocked. Eventually someone came. We witnessed the same thing happen to another guest. It felt unhospitable and stressful.
Wonderful!
Good value
A historic building in nice neighborhood, close to the harbour. Room was nice, fully equipped and clean. there are small signs of regular upkeep and maintenance not being done (peeling paint, dusty window ledge, wear marks on walls) - mainly in the common spaces. Breakfast was a bit heavy on sweets (lots of fresh fruit though), would prefer more savoury option. Considering the cost it is good value
Old Victorian B&B with plenty of character and charm. We stayed in the Garden Room which had its own private entrance and a little patio. Inside the house was like a museum, but you could touch things and sit on the furniture. The three course breakfast was served at individual tables with linen table cloths, china and silverware, and was absolutely delicious and so filling that we only had a late lunch or early dinner each day of our stay. Although there was free parking, we used the transit system which was so convenient and easy to use and was only $5 for a day pass…we saw most of the island this way. We will be recommending this gem to all of our family and friends!
A very beautiful character home built in 1895, the breakfast included was incredible!
Absolutely delightful. When in Victoria I would it again.
Lovely old mansion in a quiet neighborhood. Room was clean and bed and bathroom comfortable. The breakfast was absolutely amazing. That in itself was worth the stay. Excellent value. Be prepared to walk up a flight of stairs. The carpet in the room although clean needs replacing.
Confy bed and pillows, delicious breakfast, very nice staff, the area is nice and quiet.

The Amethyst is a wonderful Victorian mansion full of character. It’s as if time stood still. My room was lovely, crisp bed linens & very cozy. Rachel was so welcoming when I arrived & the breakfast delicious. Even a GF muffin with breakfast! Definitely a great place to stay when visiting Victoria
