Call me old school but I prefer to be greeted by a receptionist when I check in. Still, our room was quiet and roomy and the reception on call were quick to assist us. When the breakfast room remodel is done that should be nice, too. Our breakfast at the hotel de Paix was a little sub par but free. The hallways had the same cluster of leaves on the floor for the 3 days we were there. The price was affordable for expensive Switzerland.
The hotel is located about a 15 minute walk from the main train station. You cross the bridge and then access it through some small pedestrianised streets which have lots of cafes and shops. The hotel itself is on a busy street and the entrance isn’t all that attractive. The hotel emailed me the Luzern Visitors card the morning I was due to check-in. This allowed you some discounts and access to transport. I used the self-check in which was very efficient. There are a small number of lockers at the entrance where you can leave your luggage if your room isn’t available. My room was fine with a comfortable bed and a large bathroom. However there were no coffee or tea making facilities which I like to have when I stay for more than one night. Tap water was left in a decanter for your use. There was a safe and a small fridge in the room. I would stay in this hotel again due to it’s location. I also thinks it’s good value for money for Lucerne.
Excellent location and very cleaned
Super well located. Very cleaned. Hope the room was equipped with ac
The 2 nights stay was okay. Unfortunately there’s no ventilation in the bathroom, esp when shaving, which would’ve been convenient. Although our stay was short, our last day the room was too hot; however, good &/or satisfactory with everything else.
Nice comfortable room, clean and in great location near shops, restaurants and coffee.
Under construction.
Good place to stay
Good location. Clean. Parking close by. Enjoyed our stay.
Very clean, great location. Close to everything in Lucerne.
Good stay
Good for a short stay, self check in and the hotel next door kept our bags for us. The room got very hot at night in the summer, ok for a short stay but would be unpleasant for a longer stay. Standard breakfast. Would reccomend if you are travelling on a budget. Good location.
hotel was in a convienent location but was very hot with
nice place for a stay, right near everything, does get hot in room
Excellent place to stay in terms of location and cleanliness. But there was no air conditioner and it was a warm summer month.
If you are accustomed to even the basic comforts of American hotels, you will be disappointed here. There is no air conditioning which I thought would be no big deal since outside temperatures were in the 60’s. Boy, was I wrong! It felt higher than 100 degrees at night, probably because the rooms are designed to retain the heat inside. When we tried opening windows, the loud noise of traffic and commotion outside prevented us from sleeping, all the while the whole place was basically an oven. This is a self service hotel, so expect to do all service yourself. The front desk has no humans (so if you’re confused due to your lack of knowing the local language there’s not much help) but they get some services from a hotel next door , and they were friendly. I asked for extra fans, but I never received in any of our rooms. I did not sleep well for 2 nights and also fell very sick, which made the rest of my trip not as enjoyable as it could have been. This hotel was a disappointment.
Great hotel in city only a 10-15 minute walk to train/bus station! Grocery store and indoor mall very close and other shopping just a short walk away.
Self check in was great, hotel stay was satisfactory
Perfect location for your stay
Great location for a short town stay. Had everythng you needed from a B&B
Great location
Check-in
Property was so convenient on anything
Easy to understand
nice and convenient place to stay
good location for visiting lucernce
Everything was great except there was no Air Con. It was middle of September & rooms were sweltering and stuffy. Couldnt sleep because of heat & noise. Romms were supplied with a small, very noisy desk top fan.
The Self Check-in was very smooth and effective. The room was ok. However, I didn't expect business room without a/c: these days were extremely hot and it was not easy to get some sleep during a night even with fully open window. The table light is necessary to make work and reading possible. Extra power sockets at the table or extention power cable would be very helpful. Many thanks to restaurant team for extra service - I had to leave early and I was served at 6:30 - while breakfast service starts at 7:00.
Very good location. Walk to many famous sites. No air condition, but don’t worry - not hot even in later July. Room is clean and large.
The hotel was in a great location and easily walkable to all major attractions. My only complaint was that I thought the bathroom in our room smelled a little bit like cat pee. It was clean, so perhaps it was the smell of the cleaner they used. Other than that the room was very nice.
The breakfast was sumptuous and a delight. A couple of things they can improve: provide better pillows (there was only one per person that was not sufficient) - and also have wifi boosters - our room had weak signal.
Very good for the price
Check-in went pretty smooth but when accessing the room we found an old and worn room. Shower did stay in place, door damaged and lower than average breakfast. I do not recommend it.
Perfect location, spacious room.
Lizeth isn’t huge, but this was the ideal location. Checking in and out was super easy and the room was large and clean. Ours faced out into the street, so it got a little noisy early in the morning around 5am with the public transport right below, but nothing insane. Building was very nice and room was comfortable.
Good location. Hard to figure out electrical switches. Room had very poor ventilation and was very stuffy. A fan helped but not much.
Location is very good. It is within a short walking distance to the Chapel Bridge. There is no AC at this building and the room is unbearable for hot summer days. Staff provided a second fan but still very hot. No coffee maker in the room.
First, the self check-in didn't work for the credit card payment of the city tax, so I had to go outside of the building to look arounr for the front desk. The staff had to come with me to solve the issue. Second, the Luzerne City Discount Card was never introduced or presented by the staff. After I purchased the bus, train, and cableways and excursions tickets, I was told that there was 10% discount if all tickets with free bus and train rides within the zone if I had the card. Third, the room was super hot that it was hard to sleep. Everything else was good staying at the hotel.
Classic, clean, and comfortable
We stayed one night at Hotel Ambassador before embarking on a road trip around Switzerland. We didn't spend a lot of time at the hotel, just a late check-in with the computer system and a comfy, clean place to sleep before leaving in the morning. The room was fairly small but comfortable, and was outfitted with everything we needed for the night plus some. There was a fan which was nice since it got just a little stuffy in the room overnight, and the bed was comfy though I did bring my own pillow, as I usually find European pillows to be entirely too thin. I very much appreciate that they're dog friendly as well. I would not hesitate to stay here again and would definitely recommend it to others. My only suggestion would be to have some staff on hand at night, for questions or help with check-in. The computer system was easy enough to use, but at first we couldn't get in the lobby door to use it for check-in, because we didn't yet have a key. We also had no idea where the parking garage was, until my husband finally found someone who gave us advice on where to park. It would also be really helpful if the wifi extended to the downstairs lobby area, since many people's cell phones won't work in Switzerland. I got stuck waiting there and couldn't text my husband to let me back in.
Central location, close to restaurants at the lake and the famous bridge. Clean and spacious. Street parking was available at chf 13 there is shopping center nearby where one can park.
Amazing location. Steps from everything in centre of town
We had a fabulous stay at Hotel Helvetia. Kind attention from the reception. This hotel located along the river definitely has good vibes.
Value for money
It’s a good place to stay for economical travellers. Centrally located with convenient travelling around options right in front.
Situated close to city center. Dirty smell and dead insect inside the room.
Very near to old town, lion monument. There is a shopping plaza nearby and very convenient to buy grocery.
It is very convenient location and good size rooms. Staff is very helpful
Nice smaller place a little out of the way from the hustle of the center of Windsor (which I found to be a plus). Still very walkable to wherever we wanted to go. The breakfast was better than average with a simple buffet plus a menu one could order off of offering classic British breakfast fare.
Nice stay on a Swiss April night
Great location - a short walk from the station and the lake. Friendly staff Nice breakfast Clean and spacious room and bathroom The only limitation is the lack of air conditioning which might be less ideal in the summers months. Otherwise a great place
Thumbs up
Nice clean hotel in a great location near the centre of Lucerne. Easy access to the lake and main train station. Staff were helpful for our queries and did eveything they could when we asked. One recommendation for anyone booking is to make sure to specify if you want a double bed as we didnt and we got a room with twin beds pushed together (was actually quite comfortable anyway).
Central.to main city centre. And public transport Staff very helpful.
Excellent hotel, location, staff & breakfast Hotel location is exceptional, next to Zurich main Station
Nice hotel at a central location in Luzern.
It was a nice and comfortable stay near the lake in Luzern.
Hotel is not responsible for your luggage
They can’t take your luggage if you arrive early :-( There is a tiny room where the receptionist asked us to drop our luggage and that they are watching through cameras. But when we returned, our bag lock was missing and the zip remained open. When we brought this to their attention, their immediate action was to point us to the notice on that tiny room that says they are not responsible for the luggage. A lack of empathy from their side made our family very stressful that evening. When we asked to check the camera they said there is no camera inside that room but only outside :-( We felt unsafe and asked the hotel staff to not enter our rooms for cleaning when we are away.
The hotel was clean and the room was pleasant. It has a good location. The street entrance, second floor reception, hallways and terrace areas were not inviting. In one instance, I needed a second key and stood at the reception area for about 10 minutes and when no one came, had to go to the neighboring hotel that manages the facility. They need a bell at the front desk or a phone connected to the second location. I had figured out that the neighboring hotel was affiliated by chance. No one had explained their affiliation and that we could have breakfast at either location. The woman who took care of the breakfast was very pleasant! It could be a much more inviting place with some decorating attention in the common areas.
Hotel service was great. I did not like the room design, not the space but there was not enough air in the room. Sometimes it was too hot and just the table fan is not enough. Pros are the hotel can be reached from the train station with the bus which is right at the door of the hotel, breakfast was ok too. Also they provide coffee and other beverages thorough out the day which is why i really like the place. Improvement would be the room design and for summer please have the bed sheets made out of some soft material like cotton.
We booked in Ambassador, but got moved to an adjacent sister hotel as they did not have room for us in the Ambassador. That was a let down. The amenities at the sister hotel did not seem as good as the main one
Nice hotel close to the lake
Room and bath was very clean, bed was comfortable. Room was appropriate size for 2 with desk, 2 chairs and table. Staff was friendly. Breakfast was included, and quite ok witha selsciotn of bacon, ham, bread, fruit, yogurt, milk, juice, and coffee.
Great location, Clean & Spacious Room
Great location for our visit with Dutch friends south of Rotterdam. Excellent breakfast with a very clean, comfortable, and spacious room. We would stay again when we return.
Hotel With Rude Staff
Good location. Small room size.Breakfast was very basic. The rooms were not cleaned till 4 pm and bedsheets were not changed regularly. The staff at the reception was very rude when we complained to her about the cleaning timings and bedsheets. Not worth paying such a high price for this hotel.
Good hotel, helpful
It is very good
Awesome and great staff
Hot rooms-,no a/c . Bring another fan is not the problem solution-. Guests wants to stay in their rooms comfortable . Or tell the guest that at night will refresh. So only I pay for nights time not for day time-,I don't want to imagen how is in June, July or ougust.hot and expensive?
Great location.
Great location. Friendly staff. Breakfast is good. Wifi quality is very poor.
The room was clean and located in a good location.
Central location easy walk for everything.
Very good hotel the central location is excellent for shops galleries and transport, breakfast room is bright and excellent choices on offer. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to help. It has become our hotel of choice when in Luzern.
Convenient,clean and great location
Great location,easy to go anywhere.
Great location
The room temperature became uncomfortable in the late afternoon
Wifi was terrible did not work at all in our room. Other than that room, bathroom and location were all great. Breakfast was average.
Difficult to get to the lobby 2nd floor
OK Hotel, Very Poor Internet
We have mixed feelings about the Ambassador. The room was nice, and the bathroom had an amazingly large bathtub. There was a fridge in the room, which is always nice. The breakfast was good, nothing special. The wifi, however, was nonexistent. When we asked about it, the front desk person was very sympathetic and tried to be helpful, but in the end we still couldn't book our next hotel on the internet. Our room had a beautiful view of a courtyard garden, but there was a smoking area right below our window. It was a perfect time of the year to have our window open - most of the time we kept it shut due to the smoke. I would ask for a room higher up if I had to do it again.
Good hotel for families.
Older family run hotel. Our rooms were large and had an alcove with another bed. Perfect for a family with children. Well located, near the bus stop or an easy walk to the city center. Private parking right across the street.
Good location
This is a bit older hotel that is close to the lake and just across the bridge from the train station. It is a pretty good value for the money and the breakfast is light on options but OK. I'd recommend this place to someone who is just sightseeing and not planning on spending much time in your room. The room is very small and not overly comfortable, but the location is really good.
Location!
Good location. A short walk from train station. Very near to lion monument. There is a bus stop outside the hotel. It can bring you to train station.
Decent hotel in Lucerne
I'd rate this hotel 2.5 stars out of 5. If I were to go back, I'd look harder at other hotels before booking this one, however I probably would stay there again. PROS of this hotel: 1)The hotel is close enough to town to walk anywhere. The dying lion monument is very close. 2)Access to wi-fi was simple. They print a unique ID and password for each device you have (up to 3). 3)Breakfast was included and it was good. 4)The bed was comfy, but a little smaller than a US queen. 5)Staff spoke English well. CONS of this hotel: 1)The front desk is closed from 11pm-7am, so if there is an emergency at night, I'm not sure what a foreigner is supposed to do. Also, if you need to check out before 7am, there isn't a good procedure for that. They asked us to leave our hotel key on a desk, where anyone could take it. Keep in mind, there is a 200CHF fee for a lost key. 2)This hotel does not have AC in the rooms. We stayed 2 nights in July, when the high was 86F and 88F. The windows tilt in, but not much, so any real airflow is impossible. 3)Housekeeping entered our room, even though we left the Do Not Disturb card on the door handle. 4)Wi-fi was not good enough to do a Skype call. 5)Only 2 thin pillows were on the bed. I had to double mine over to use it. 6)The lights in our bathroom took 6-10 seconds to turn on, which I didn't experience anywhere else in Europe.
For one night it was fine ...
We needed a hotel to accommodate two rooms and not cost a fortune. We found this online and for one night it was fine. Dated facilities but clean and a very convenient location. The staff was fantastic in recommending a local pharmacy. The breakfast was typical continental and just fine. :-)
Downtown, close to public transportation,
No A/C necessity when 100 year heat wave. Room Temperature 29 o C. during the night.
Lucerne, Hotel Ambassador
The hotel was conveniently located on public transit and just 5 to 7 minutes from the rail station. There were many restaurants nearby and within easy walking distance. Breakfast was well timed and had a good selection.
Luzerne is always beautiful
We were greeted and given a map. Outside is unremarkable but inside is updated. Bathroom is ok size but bring your own bar of soap. Shower is hand held with small glass panel attached to side of tub, not roomy. Bed is mattress on board, nice comforter and roomy room. Breakfast if typical but plentiful. Lucerne is lovely, easy to find restaurants but very costly to stay and eat. We spend our time in the mountains that are absolutely fantastic. Can hike and bike. Boat ride on lake is nice. Use your Eurail pass to get to Pilatus. THE best experience. GREAT for everyone. Air is so clean. The cog ride up is nice and the ride down on the gondola is wonderful. Take a sweater, its chilly up top 7000 ft up!. Easy train ride to other cities. We never miss going to Switzerland. Good chocolate. LOVE LUCERNE. ......We are frequent family travelers and like to give fair assessments of our stays. Pilatus also has 2 hotels on top of mountain nice to stay there as well.
Great location for walking everywhere
I booked a group into the Ambassador ( was taking them on a River Cruise after our stay here) -- found that half the group was put into the attached hotel but they can share the breakfast rooms, patio, etc. Rooms in both hotels were excellent except for one which could be described as a basement room with windows that didn't open. Our room had a window that only opened at the top about 3 inches so it was a bit warm even though the weather was cloudy/rainy. Breakfast very good. Staff very friendly & helpful to the point of ordering us Pizza one night when it was raining & we didn't want to go out. Overall a hotel I would definitely recommend to my other clients.
Comfortable and pleasant stay.
Good breakfast and a discount rate for parking at a garage next door. Friendly helpful staff.
Good Location
This hotel is in a good location. The staff were very pleasant. The hotel is first hard to find as it is up some stairs to the lobby but after that is is great. The only downside is the room was very hot and the windows opened to a fire escape so i didn't feel comfortable having them open during the night. The breakfast was good. Had eggs, toast, yoghurt, cheese, meats, coffee. We had a car and had to find a place to pull into until i found where we could park with the hotel but otherwise it worked out fine.
May vacation
Overall, the hotel was great. Reception closes at 11am so make sure you take care of things beforehand.
Perfect for our needs.
Easy walk or bus ride from train and boat departures. Room had everything we needed including a free umbrella to use while there or to purchase. Very good breakfast with wide range of items included. I particularly appreciated the fresh fruit. We had trouble with our TV and we wanted two extra pillows and someone was quickly sent up to attend to those issues. The maid service could be improved as our water glasses were not changed during our 4 nights there. The last servicing included 3 face cloths but only one bath towel. The restaurant in the sister hotel next door is very good. Overall, the decor was tired, bathroom tiles cracked, the mattress hard and space tight, but the location, cleanliness, breakfast and service were great. The addition of a veranda was nice, but it rained the whole time we were there.
We recommend this Hotel!
Great location, very pleasant and helpful staff, lovely complimentary breakfast. Our room was on small side, no A/C but manageable if you don't spend lots of time indoors. But with so much to do in such a great city, why would one want to stay in the room? I would definitely recommend The Ambassador.
Descent hotel.
The stay was overall descent. Good breakfast and nice locality. The rooms are descent. The only downside was that the internet network in our room was bad.
Good hotel in convenient location
Hotel is well located in Lucerne. Easy walk to all attractions.
Hotel is very conveniently located and in a new building. Our room was small but I this is what you can expect from the 3 start hotel in Switzerland.
Good location for a visit in Lucerne
Very good location, modern and efficient, hotel to recommend for short term stays in Lucerne.
Close to everything!
Great service & security
Hotel was nice, good locations etc.
The room was nice and could have been comfortable had it been air conditioned. It was so hot and the little portable fan was not enough in fact "why even bother". Our room was overlooking a Tour Bus Parking Lot- needless to say it was very noise. The beds were comfortable enough for European standards, just too hot and noise for my likings. They offered a very good breakfast, lots of food and great coffee machine. The night clerk who checked us in was friendly enough. Did not have much to do with the others. The cleaning crew was super, one day we did not get out of the room, we had the do not disturb sign and they left us clean towels etc. we did not even ask.
Light, Bright, comfortable, Great Breakfast!
The Ambassador Hotel Lucerne was clean, comfortable, spacious, in a great location and had an awesome breakfast! I would recommend this hotel to friends and stay here again.
Great location
Hotel was very clean and the staff super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good too. the only negative was that it happened to be very hot the day we were there and we couldn't cool our room down so sleeping was a little uncomfortable even with the window open. Location was within close walking distance to the Chapel Bridge, lake and Lion Monument, but it was also a noisy street. Would definitely recommend this and would stay here again though.
bathtub- it was very slippery..
Great Location in Lucerne
Very clean and spacious room. Central location not far from old town. Friendly staff. We were very pleased with our stay.
We stopped in Lucerne only for a night while on our way to Mount Titlis. So, if you looking for a short and sweet stay in Lucerne this is the right one - you can visit Lucerne lake, the dying lion, chapel bridge everything, all are just a walk away. It was beautiful to take a stroll along the lake side, without worrying about how to reach back and there are quite a few eateries just on the road where you can grab stuff. Commute isn't a problem at all. Only Breakfast does not have much variety and there is no electric kettle in the room but you can go pick up coffee/tea from the breakfast area till 11pm so not a problem. Overall we enjoyed our stay there.
Good, clean hotel in a good location.
I stayed here for four nights. It is a nice clean hotel (if a bit warm, but maybe that is just me). The staff are friendly and speak almost perfect English. It is aprox 10 min walk from the train station in high heels and is handly located for the town and restaurants. I would recommend and return.
Great location!
Great central location for everything - Dining, sightseeing, "take away" food, shopping, transportation. Room was clean and spacious, altho missing a few amenities which could be found in the U.S, such as ironing board / iron and numerous outlets. Staff was cheerful and very helpful. Nice free breakfast. Altogether a great experience!
Sleepless in Luzern
A small room without air conditioning when it is over 30 degrees outside surely is a recipe for disaster. And beds being equipped only with a pair of thick comforters! But they charge you tourist fees on top of the already inflated price. I do NOT recommend this hotel if you travel in summer. The good points, however, are: a good buffet breakfast and the location 10 minutes away from Chapel Bridge and just across the street from the Panorama exhibition. If you come out the door and turn right on the first little street, it will take you up to the old city walls where you get a beautiful view of Luzern. This town is a nice place to visit and stay the night -- and while you're there, make sure you go to Mount Pilatus which is spectacular.
Reasonable hotel
I booked this at the last minute, and it was very hot. Please note that the hotel is not air conditioned. The room included a desktop fan, and windows which tilt inward for about 3" of courtyard air circulation. The staff was pleasant and the room was clean. The hotel was in a good location, not too bad of a walk from the central train station. The hotel keys are rather odd as it is a very large heavy key which you then swap for a smaller door key at the lobby "switchboard". The lobby is on an upper level of the building, and the elevator is very small, so I would not recommend this hotel to guests with disabilities as it may be hard to get in and out, particularly with luggage in the very tiny elevator. We were offered a free welcome drink at the hotel's restaurant (Laupin) which is connected to it's sister hotel.
Great location, small rooms
Stayed here for just one night in July and the staff and location was great. There was no air condition so it was kind of hot but there was a fan. The room was small but cozy. Breakfast was good. But parking was a bit expensive. Overall a nice place to stay for 1-2 nights in summer due to lack of AC.
attractive, clean hotel near train station
Very disappointing experience. Hotel was clean and attractive but nothing worked. In our first room, the WiFi didnt work. We were told that because our room was on the top floor, it was too far away from the WiFi, so they moved us to another, much smaller room, where the WiFi worked but the small refrigerator didn't. It was very very hot there and we wanted to have cold water to drink, but couldn't, plus NO air conditioning, and no screens on windows to we couldn't leave them wide open at night. Also, the light switches made it so that at night you had to turn on the room light to use the bathroom b4 turning on the bathroom light. All the mechanics of the hotel were just inadequate.
Walking Distant to Attractions But Tricky Parking
The double room I had was rather small, especially the bathroom. The bed linen was of high quality fabric and soft. Breakfast was decent but nothing to be wowed about, mostly cold items. The location of the hotel is convenient to visit many attractions, including the famous bridge. We walked everywhere. The Lion Mountain is about 5-minute walk away. It's in an area with good shopping and restaurants. However, if you are arriving by car, unloading/loading is not easy because the hotel is on a one-way street and there is not a loading zone in front of the hotel. One must first park the car in the nearby public parking garage (on the same street) that's a short (1 minute) walk away. It's rather pricey but one can validate the ticket with the hotel reception to receive a discount. Note that the reception desk is not conspicuous. One must first enter a hallway, then take either stairs or small elevator to the 1st floor in order to see the reception.
A very nice surprise
Booked this hotel at the very last minute without a lot of research. Hotel is located near the lion monument and old town. You can walk to anywhere in Lucerne and the train station is 10 to 15 minutes away. Hotel is next to a supermarket and small indoor mall. Pros: hardwood floors in room, room is large in size, extremely clean, great breakfast room, good breakfast with cheeses, cereals, fruit, and teas, outstanding staff, very friendly, room looked out on a community courtyard, good room rates, very nice place to return to after a long day of sightseeing Cons: shower was very small and had a shower curtain versus a glass door, no coffee maker in room however coffee available 24 hours in breakfast room
Very nice, safe and newly renovated hotel in the middle of farm lands. Clean, modern, nice bed, amazing balcony and views with farms, cows and mountains. We’ve stayed in a superior room with bigger bed, ample space, awesome window blinds and a kitchenette. Very welcoming and helpful staff and free parking. Highly recommended!
