This was the perfect place to stay during Christmas. They have a historic movie theater attached which we attended, also an excellent Italian restaurant where we ate 3 times, room was updated and with a beautiful bathroom. Easy taxi ride of about 13 euro, to the hotel and back. Very good breakfast, and being in old town adds to the experience. Very friendly staff as well.
Very poor value for money
I was very disappointed with my stay. We had two rooms booked which were quite expensive and the rooms did not represent the level that was paid and i felt were very poor value for money. The bedroom furniture was quite basic and not what i would expect of a 4 star hotel (i would not grade this as 4 star) and the rooms are quite small (although being an old property i knew this would probably be the case). The worst thing though is the standard of cleaning in the rooms. On arrival, one of the bathrooms had not been cleaned thoroughly, the toilet in particular. The other bedroom had not had its bin emptied and contained all the rubbish from the previous occupant full to the top (indicating it had not been emptied for a while). These are basic levels of cleanliness that is expected from a hotel and this hotel has let itself down in that respect. The pros are that the service at reception and breakfast is friendly, the breakfast is good and the location in the old centre close to the winter market is excellent and only a short walk away.
Overall good, slightly old but comfortable stay!
Unique building, right in the middle of the old town. Very convenient to walk to major attractions. Highly recommend!
Excellent for sightseeing, located within the pedestrian area of Salzburg‘s old town. We have stayed at this hotel before and enjoy the charm and lovely breakfast buffet. Unfortunately we had a rather small room this time which made it challenging considering we had 2 large suitcases. Overall we can recommend the Altstadthotel Kasererbräu.
Despite small room the hotel experience here wa every pleasant and very accommodating
Very nice Great area
A very nice hotel I would return to
The hotel and staff were excellent. I would stay here again. The hotel is located within the old town area and is mostly pedestrian. There is some parking at 17 Euro per night but it is limited and tight. The standard room is a bit small but who comes to Salzburg to sit in a hotel room. There are many excellent restaurants within easy walking distance. A warning about the area is to keep a watchful eye out for cyclists - it seems they have the right of way over pedestrians!
Modern with old soul vibe
So cool that this 19th century hotel is still a beacon in Salzburg, right in the heart of old town at the bottom of the castle. So cozy & modern with old soul vibe
By comparing our stay at 3 other hotels during our trip to Europe, we were surprised to notice a few things that we would not expect to see in a hotel rated as 4-star. One is room cleanliness, there was dust on the bed headboards, the floors were not swept daily, and the toilet was not cleaned! We found the washroom very small and not well configured, not suitable for tall or heavyset people. There were other items in the room that would have needed a good dusting and painting (windows). The breakfast area also had visible dust on the ceiling fans, at least the weather did not require it to be used! Also, we were advised that there would be nobody at the reception desk between 22:00 and 06:30, and the doors to the hotel would be locked. Need to use our key to open the front hotel doors. We find this disturbing that no staff would be in the hotel in case of issues, we were not advised what to do if something came up!
I stayed at the Altstadthotel Kasererbräu for 4 nights in October 2024 and was fully satisfied with my visit. The hotel is a beautiful, vintage building but has been well upgraded to meet the needs of a C21 guest. My room was small, but that was what I paid for and expected. Nevertheless it didn't feel cramped or crowded and was extremely well laid out. The curtains kept the room wonderfully dark and there was no issue with external noise intruding. The room, and hotel, were very clean. The bathroom had great water pressure and plentiful hot water, too. The location was exceptional - easy to walk to from the train station and the property is in the heart of the Old Town. I would stay in this hotel again if back in Salzburg.
A beautiful place to stay in the centre
Loved how central this was to all parts of the old city. Walkable every where. Staff was all great. Some issues initially with parking but it’s not the fault of the hotel, just the area. Room was small but bed was comfortable.
It had a great location, small room
Getting to the property is hard because the old town is closed off to most cars after 11am. You need a code to get into the area, so you have to call them for the code and then get in. Once we were there it was nice enough. Front desk gentleman was curt, our bathroom did not look like it was cleaned very well. The bed was comfy and there was a fan and we could bring in the cool air from the window before bed. The room was nice and the breakfast was good. The location was excellent!
Good location but NO AC.
Gut gelegenes Hotel in der Altstadt
Hotel gut gelegen (Altstadt). Frühstücksbüffet sehr gut. Freundliches Personal. Zimmer sauber. Zimmer entspricht jedoch nicht 4 Sternen: nüchtern, ohne Bilder an den grauen Wänden, direkt nach der Eingangstüre Lavabo mit Spiegel.
Reception was very helpful in explaining things and making reservations for us. Parking wasn't that convenient - though I gather it's not convenient anywhere in the Old Town - mainly they provided a slight discount on the parking we'd have had to rely on anyway. Due to heatwave fan was fine, but AC would have been preferred, though that is rare to find in many cities of Europe. Rooms also lacked mini-fridges. Shower was a little tricky to operate and could have used a door.
Nice city center stay
Very nice city center property with lots of history. Dated but it’s part of the charm. No AC. Nice breakfast. Excellent location
Convenient
the rooms are incredibly hot in simmer months without AC. They provide fans, but they just move the hot air around.
Hotel near the Salzburg Music Festival
The location of the hotel is great for the Music Festival event that is just 10 minutes away walking. The room was very small and terribly hot with no air conditioning and just a couple of cooling fans. Breakfast was ok and a reasonable Italian restaurant has a direct access from the hotel.
Warmly recommended!
Hotel room was great! So was hotel breakfast! So kind hotel personnel was! Highly recommended!
Historic hotel in old Salzburg. You need to go eat a code from the hotel to drive into and out of the gated old town, which was tricky as the code changes hourly. Rooms were nice, and staff was helpful. Great breakfast.
We reserved two large suites for a multi generation family time. The rooms were great, breakfast was fine. We were disappointed that the AC was not adequate. We were promised a new AC unit, which never materialized. Staff should not promise what they will not deliver. The location is superb.
Our family vacation at the Altstadthotel Kasererbräu was nothing short of delightful. Nestled in the heart of Salzburg, the hotel's location proved incredibly convenient, allowing us easy access to local attractions and transit. The historical charm of the hotel was matched by its cleanliness and the courteous service provided by the friendly staff. Staying in the room once graced by the iconic Romy Schneider added a touch of glamour to our stay. It was a memorable experience that combined luxury with the comfort of feeling at home. The hotel's commitment to maintaining a pristine environment and their attentive service truly made our family vacation special.
Nice, historic building in the heart of Salzburg. Convenient to walk around the old town
Everything is in walking distance
Extremely disappointing
Don't expect to get what you pay for. We had reserved two of the same rooms about 3 months out. We got there they said nothing at check-in but when we got to the room we did not get two of the same. We went back down and were told "Sorry, we have no other rooms". Which was simply not true as they had many keys still behind them (yes, they use old school keys). The front desk lady (who was nice) said she would leave a note for the manager and perhaps he would offer a discount. Well, that did not happen, instead I was offered two small boxes of chocolates with 4 pieces in each, no thanks. The hotel did not have A/C, one room had a fan, the other did not and we had to request one. One room had a hair dryer, the other did not. Very inconsistent and I see that now in other reviews that have been posted since we originally booked. As someone else said in their post, find a different hotel such as the Radisson Blu if you want to enjoy your visit and get a good nights sleep.
Lovely old hotel, very comfortable, excellent breakfast, staff was friendly and helpful, and the location was perfect for seeing places of interest.
15/10 would stay here again! The kids loved it, it was great with the dogs, easy 5 minute walk to take the shuttle track up to see the fortress. You can walk everywhere and see everything. Excellent views from our room!
Great position to view Old Salzburg!
Great position in the Old Town! You can walk everywhere! But note it is an old building, not modern. Comfortable room with bathroom. Shower over bath. No fridge in room, but that is a European thing..
I really wanted to like this place. The toilet was dirty under the rim. The shower floor on one end was slippery- upon inspection, it was discolored and it was dirty. We were so jet lagged and tired we decided to not say anything. The second day we didn’t have it cleaned because we had to sleep in. The third day we did leave the room to have it cleaned, and returned to only a made bed. The floors were never vacuumed and there was hair all over the floor. The towels were changed and after showering, I used a towel and found out it had a disgusting booger dried up on it. They have such a potential to be amazing if only they improve their hygiene and cleanliness. And a standing fan in the hot days won’t be that bad either. They don’t have ac and was asked to just open the windows but it was so noisy late into the night and early morning.
Great location in a gorgeous city.
Lovely hotel in a fantastic location. But in the three days we were there, the internet was not functioning despite attempts by the staff to fix the problem.
The Kasererbräu was the perfect location for exploring Salzburg. It was close to all major landmarks and public transportation. Our room had a balcony and it was such a treat to sit there first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. I’d definitely stay here again.
Great location in the historic area of Salzburg. Just a few minutes walk to main attractions for culture, shopping and dining. We stayed in two different rooms as we extended our stay by one night. Typical of European accommodation- somewhat smaller than North American rooms. Breakfast - not included - was very good. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Very central location and friendly staff
Great location. A little bit noisy on the room looking out to the walking street but that’s to be expected. Biggest complaint was that there was no charger next to the bed on either side and only 2 in the room and 1 unoccupied in the bathroom.
Great hotel in the old town of Salzburg, location is perfect with shopping and dining a short walk away. Room was clean and spacious, highly recommended!
Lovely place to stay
we were amazed at the super perfect location of this hotel! The staff was super friendly and helpful when we needed them. Breakfast was the best of our entire trip. Thank you so much!
Very handy for the Altstadt and all the tourist attractions! friendly & helpful staff ,
Beautiful historic building from 1342! Close to the fortress, Dom and lots of shopping and restaurants. We found it easy to walk to all the historic sites. Breakfast was good and very convenient. The staff was wonderfully helpful and also spoke English.
Good location in a relatively quiet area with nice restaurants options.
Wonder hotel in a perfect location for those wanting to walk to all the sites in Salzburg. Had a great view of the Castle from our room, friendly staff, and amazing breakfast. Highly recommended this hotel!
I was travelling on my own and felt safe, great shopping sightseeing and eating places nearby.
Quick stop at a historical hotel
Perfect location in Salzburg
Comfy Christmas
Great staff and loved the historical hotel. A little tight in the room but clean and comfy. Great location. While there's not a bar in the hotel, you can get beer and wine in the lobby. Attached Italian restaurant was very good.
Old bed sheets for the price
Very nice hotel in wonderful location.
The front desk was friendly and helpful. Hotel has a built in theater, perfect for a rainy day evening. Location is great, a short walk to everything! Breakfast is included in out stay and food choices are decent. However, the waitress was so rude to me, an Asian, she didn’t greet me but picked me among 8-10 persons at the buffet tables to ask “what’s your room number “ after I’ve told her, she still looked suspicious, made me feel uncomfortable. When I sat down to eat, she came straight to me again, asking me my room number. When she passed other tables around us, she was nice greeting everyone “good morning “ or asking if they needed anything. Guess what, 2nd morning, she was after me again, with the look that I might sneaked in to ear breakfast for free, “what’s your room number”!!! Same behaviors to others- everyone else is non-Asian thus no need to check their room numbers but me! I’m very disappointed! What’s the heck?
Excellent except that the shower did not drain well.
Old, but Great!
Location is amazing, check-in staff & restaurant staff are super friendly, rooms are outdated (but it's an old hotel with a lot of history & culture), cleanliness of rooms need more improvement (floors dusty at corners, toilet seats soiled/stained underneath, toilet amenities not replenished), but nothing that they cannot fix if asked. We were happy with our stay and would return. Thanks
Excellent location near the Old Town and Christmas markets
In the heart of the old city
The staff was outstanding. Good breakfast. Great location.
Location was awesome and staff was great. The bollards to enter were tricky but not the hotels fault.
Amazing location, horrible wi-fi
Fantastic location. All the main sites are super close. If you use their parking stop at the hotel first. The parking location is very hard to find and if you pass the hotel you can't get back because it's on a one-way street and in a locked off area. Had one of the suites and it had a ton of room. Wi-fi connection is so bad it's useless. Don't recommend staying here if you plan to work from the hotel.
Die Glastüre ins Bad konnte nicht ganz geschlossen werden und man kann im Bad nicht ungestört die Toilette benutzen.
Duplex with a Castle View
This duplex room with a balcony took my breath away. We had a view of the castle and they left us chocolate. It was very luxurious and the female at the front desk was very nice. She brought us tea and crackers while we waited for our room (we arrived early). It was within walking distance of everything.
No centro da cidade
Localização excelente. Garagem pequena. Quarto pequeno. Café da manhã regular
Fabulous property with exceptional customer service. We stayed 2 nights in a superior double room. The breakfast was included and it was delicious. I researched quite a few hotels and so glad we booked this one
Great location. Easy walking distance to most things.
It was a great experience. Very nice hotel with a lot of history.
We had a nice stay here. This is a very reasonable option for the Salzburg Altstadt area. The location is unbeatable in terms of convenience. The furnishings in our room could be updated but everything was very clean and reasonably comfortable, so we didn't mind. We enjoyed the quirky features -- like the oldest continuously running movie theater on-site. They have a sauna -- upon request -- we didn't get a chance to use it. The front desk was a bit slow and if you stayed here in the height of summer, it might be very hot during the day. We opened the window when we came back at night -- that worked great and even though our window opened onto the street, it was reasonably quiet. Would stay again.
Salzburg is a gorgeous city, fun and wonderful people.
Located in a beautiful section of old Salzburg near all the historic buildings
Hotel was good. Staff were very helpful.
Hidden Gem
Very well located and the service was outstanding. There’s a cinema inside the hotel, don’t leave without a visit.
Great noise proofing
We had a very nice stay here. The room was comfortable and clean. The location in the old city was wonderful. The staff was friendly and helpful.
The hotel was in a great location. Very clean and friendly. Only issue was the guests are very loud in the hallways.
Great area, perfect room size. Only issue was the heat. The air conditioner wasn't working.
Great place to stay
Clean, unique hotel that had a lot of character! People very friendly and nice, highly recommend!
The old building was unique. I chose the hotel for the walkability of its location close to the central squares of the Old Town.
We didn’t realize what a truly great find this was until after our first day. It really is so close to everything you’d want. We rented bikes, did lots of sight seeing and walking. Tons of places to eat. Was frustrating getting in and out of town center because it is a secure area and seemingly all of the directions we thought we were following didn’t work. We ended up figuring it out, but was a hassle. Though looking back on it, still worth it because the location is a 10. Parking was easy. Grocery store, restaurants and shops are all close. The old fashioned picture shown with bathtub next to bed is not accurate at all — this is a recently renovated hotel with modern features throughout.
Great hotel
A wonderful property, in a great location, with friendly, helpful staff, and an amazing history in the hotel itself.
A nice small European hotel. My room had a small terrace which was nice. The breakfast was good and open longer hours than most places.
Love this place. Second time I’ve stayed here. Great location in Old Town. Staff is super friendly and helpful.
Great historic property in a great location, with a friendly staff and historic movie theatre. We enjoyed our stay, but be prepared that the amenities are not very up to date. The wifi is very slow and the TV in the room is small and at least a decade old.
Terrible customer service
The location and view from the room is beautiful but the service does not deserve even a one star and was one of the worst customer service I have received at a hotel. We were not given any information regarding parking, breakfast, or any amenities at the hotel. The young man that checked us in told us that we could park anywhere and we would be given a voucher for $16 euro parking however that was untrue. He did not let us know the hotel had a garage and quickly dismissed me when I asked about hotel parking. The room itself was dusty and you could see streaks all over the places that were wiped. Truthfully disappointing service overall and would not recommend booking this place if you plan on bringing your family.
We had a view of the fortress from our budget room. Very nice room. Great breakfast. Convenient location to all major sites and dining. Would stay again and recommend to friends and family.
The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The hotel has one of the oldest, if not the oldest, movie theater in the world inside, which includes some ancient Roman columns on which it was built. The breakfast was outstanding! The room was a little small and bare bones, but we had a patio that overlooked the city, and considering how old the hotel is, we couldn't complain. It's in a perfect location for walking around the old city. I would definitely stay here again!
Beautiful, historic hotel. Walkable distance to the old town and everything Salzburg has to offer at an unbeatable price! Highly recommend!
Salzburg Holiday Vacation
Great location of hotel. The staff was very helpful and friendly from the very beginning of our arrival to departure.
Super cute room that was all wood and just adorable! Very clean and decent space. Hotel was in a great location and close to the christmas market. There are lots of little shops close by and the cable car up to the fortress is quite close as well. Overall this was a 10/10!
Great price great location
The hotel is an excellent price in an excellent location right in the altstadt. The room had charm. The windows kept the room quiet and warm. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable. There is an old cinema attached to the hotel which is cool. The main selling point of this hotel is the price in relation to location to the old town.
Great location!
Loved this quaint hotel close to the Christmas Market. Nice breakfast. Helpful front desk folks. Only complaint - no chair in room, other than kitchen table- like. Not best to relax in after a long day, and not ready for bed.
Stacked with historical interest and charm
Beautiful well-preserved building which houses a boutique cinema and a restaurant downstair. Very obliging staff and great breakfast. Area is public transport accessible, grocery store diagonally across from the hotel and a short walk to the main square.
Excelent location to move around in Salzburg
The location of the hotel in the heart of the old town of Salzburg is the only good thing about this hotel. Otherwise, it is very ancient (the word old is not enough!) You can even hear a cracking sound as you walk on the room's wooden floor (we had suite 2 on the first floor). They have a parking garage I on site but I recommend that you reserve a spot on it if you're coming to check in around evening time. Otherwise, you would have to park off-site, which is about 5 to 7-minute walk from the hotel. The hotel can still validate your parking ticket to get the discounted rate. The pillows were very soft that we had to ask for extras.
A little tired however great location. Would I book it again - yes!
Perfectly met my expectations
Historical hotel in the middle of everything.
Perfect location close to every attraction. The hotel has parking, but we had to use public parking close by. The directions from the hotel how to get there were informative and precise. Good breakfast. One ekstra bed placed in double room was too hard. Every room is decorated differently, so coming here will always be a surprise I guess. The bathroom and towels/linen are fresh and clean.
Breakfast was very good (normal European buffet), as were the beds. Very convenient location with lots of choices for dinner around (as long as you aren't trying to eat too late). In the middle of the altstadt, so most of the sights are within walking distance as well. Our room had a view of the fortress--which gets lit up at night--out the window.
great hotel love it!

Absolutely would recommend. Very central location for bars and shopping
