A lovely and very comfortable hotel with very friendly staff. We spent Christmas Eve here and had a very nice Christmas dinner too. The restaurant and room service is a little on the expensive side, but the quality is very good. Would recommend.
Nice view from the entrance
Great views, nice rooms
Hotel has beautiful views. Hotel is nice and breakfast is very good. Rooms are dated and a little small… sound travels thru the walls very easily. Note the hotel is outside of town, need a car or bus, too far to walk.
Internet speed was very slow.
Staff was polite but was not very accommodating. We were not allowed to take drinks from the bar to sit in the lobby. Also they wouldn’t allow us to take coffee after breakfast up to our room.
Cozy comfortable mountain style lodge in Patagonia. Beautiful views of Lake Argentina from our room. Excellent restaurant with professional friendly service. Reception staff were warm and helpful. Easy transfer to airport or the center of El Calafate. An excellent choice at the gateway to Patagonia!
Had to wait at check in. Only one staff member to do all the check-in, could have used one more staff. Room was hot, could have had a fan in rooms. Breakfast was delicious! Dining area very nice.
Amazing setting, decent breakfast, nice pools, helpful staff Dinner was terrible. Slow & not clear what was included on menu or from server. Food was only warm & not tasty.
Muy bueno
Good hotel for the cost
Great property and great pools!
Beautiful facility with a breathtaking view of the lake and mountains. The hotel is far from down town, where the restaurants and shopping places are. Although the hotel provides a shuttle service, it is limited to the late afternoon/night. You will ended paying several taxi rides to move back and forth.
The property was beautiful. The rooms are clean. However the staff could be friendlier.
My husband and I had a great experience at this hotel. The staff were amazing. Most of them spoke English and helped coordinate a tour for us and a dinner reservation in downtown. Kalen, in particular, was extremely helpful and we were lucky to have met him and stayed there. Highly recommend for those visiting El Calafate!
Incredible setting, very helpful staff
nice enough
It was a little big for a one night stay. The pool and spa close very early, and open late. The beds are small and the sheets aren’t soft. The food was wonderful though, and the views were great.
Great Staff
The staff are great. The promotion that tells one the view is great is accurate. But this means the hotel is a tad out the town. There is an hourly shuttle.
Very well appointed hotel. Full services offered and a great view. The shuttle service was frequent enough and always on time. Wish we could have spent another day there to experience all the hotel offered.
Decent hotel with great views
Good hotel with great views. A little out of town but shuttle to take you in and back for free. Pool great for after a day trip out.
Goo hotel!
Good hotel. A bit further awry from town but has shuttle service.
Great place to stay
Great staff! Beautiful location away from El Calafate Centro BUT they provide a wonderful shuttle service - perfect!
Wonderful amenities. 2 heated in door pools and fabulous views of mountains and lakes from hotel
although this is an Expedia VIP access hotel, the staff have absolutely no idea what is that We don’t get upgrade, neither any perk
Great view, nice rooms and very comfy beds. It’s a little ways out of town but they have a shuttle.
Good experience. Facility was very nice. English was pretty good. Room service English led to some extras, but can’t blame them for that.
nice hotel with nice rooms good food fine wines, great pool and sauna and friendly and professional staff. exceptional view and its not expensive
The views we awesome! The eatery was the best in town! Best views, service and food!. Very much enjoyed the pools and spa. Strongly recommend stay there.
Great hotel. The service was great. The only turn off was all the smokers smoke in front of the hotel so when you walk through the lobby of the hotel you see all the smokers and smell the smoke walking inside. It’s a turn off. You should move the smoking area to the side of the hotel. The first impression you get of the hotel is the front entrance porch with all the smokers.
I loved the location of this hotel in El Calafate. Sits on top of the hill you see everything. Only 5 minutes from the main area, but they have a shuttle to drop you off and pick you up. The hotel was reasonable priced and great value for the type of room you get. I thought the staff were very helpful. The food was good in this hotel as well. For the value and price I would recommend this hotel easily over some of the higher priced hotels. This one is very classy and personable.
Great location for a quick stay
Great location hotel has good facilities but is a bit tired and needs updating. That said it is a great base and staff were very helpful. Didn’t use spa but looks a good option for those that want a pool. Shuttle bus runs hourly and works very well.
Really great staff. Great views. Perfect shuttle. Hotel facilities (spa area needs renovation) . For 1 or 2 night stay perfect.
Premium room had no view and was quite warm as there is no air conditioning and the windows were covered by heavy drapes so that they could not be opened all the way. Bright lighting on back of building shined in window making it worse. Room was not made up until 4:30 the first day.
Super hotel in stunning Patagonia!
Fantastic location with view of the falls. It is in process of renovation, almost done but still a bit more work needed.
Really nice hotel, quiet, good bed, clean room, only downside was the internet. Was really bad for 2 days out of 3 we were there. All staff was very friendly and professional . Very good breakfast, dinner not that much. The gnocchi dish was inedible, when mentioned to the server he removed it from the bill. I would strongly recommend this hotel when visiting El Calafate.
HIGH HOTEL IN CALAFATE
We had the absolutely best room, #301...beautiful views, a suite that was gorgeous and clean. The staff, although helpful, had some issues with communication. Although I speak a little Spanish, it took 30 + minutes to check out (due to translation problems) and we felt pressured to make our plane. The staff in the restaurant also has a hard time communicating in English. Between my simple Spanish and their non English, we could understand each other. The Manager is proficient in English so that helped. All in all it was a lovely experience!
Nice hotel overlooking the town
This was a really nice hotel on the hill overlooking town. We liked the staff, the lunchboxes they could pack for excursions, the spa was decent and the restaurant had good food. We wished we could better control the heat in the rooms (it was done via central control) but were generally happy. Good value for the money. And the shuttle to town was convenient.
Excellent hotel
It is an excellent hotel. I gave 4 stars because their restaurant is not so good. If you stay at the hotel and you want a culinary experience you better dinner outside.
Good, but not Great
Nice Hotel, but pretty big and not enough staff for the large numbers. The hot tub was luke warm. The dinner was quite good, but fairly expensive.
very good restaurant, very helpful front desk. room with view is good
Friendly staff. Rooms were a bit too hot. Breakfast was mediocre at best.
Nice view But disappoints otherwise
The view is nice. But 1. Breakfast is very restricted, stale and poor. The coffee is bad, the bread stale, the pancakes mushy 2. Restaurant is empty yet needs two hours booking. Weak service, weak offering 3. Shuttle into town only starts at 10:15 and has to be pre booked. 4. Room upkeep very average. Not 5 star quality 5. When I checked out they tried to charge me in Pesos higher than booked at Expedia, till I checked the dollar rate and converted back. Then they said it’s taxes. Finally after 30 minutes they changed to the rate booked with Expedia. Do NOT stay here is my recommendation
Very nice stay , the hotel has an impressive view :) , do not miss the swimming pool , the most beautiful view of the Lago Argentino
Acceptable expensive option to stay in El Calafate
El Calafate is an expensive destination in Argentina. The hotel is greatly located for the view and has a shuttle to town every hour or so. A bit overpriced for the overall condition of the facility. Reduced staff though friendly, food OK though not delicious, breakfast monotonous day-after-day, nice swimming pool. They took 2 whole days to fix the safe in the room. I would recommend you do more research for your stay in El Calafate. We saw several nice hotels in town and I bet they are not as expensive.
Over all Alto Calafate
Everything was good. I have nothing but good things to say. (except) Room Comfort: #1. Room 228: When weather is comfortable, temperature reached almost 80F, could not open the window for fresh air and there is no room fan either. Since window mesh (net) is old and broken in places, the bugs started crawling in thru them moment window was opened. #2. Room 706: Since all Aerolineas Argentina flights were cancelled on Feb 25, 2017 Saturday afternoon from El Calafate airport (FTE), I have to go back to Alto Calafate, the staffs were nice enough to accommodate me for the night. Now I find a nice fat juicy Spider in the bathroom. No problem with the window mesh. In both cases I did not bother to complain to the staffs, it seemed so snotty!! Thank you
Out of town with nice views
E had 3 days there and after the day excursions , it was nice to be able to use the Spa. We did also eat in the hotel , the food was just about ok , with slow service. We would have liked to go out but too far after a long day .
What's great: staff, food, massages Things to note: hotel is 3km from town center (free shuttle); easy to hear wind at night and in the hallways
Rude staff, false advertising, overpriced.
When I arrived at the reception an unfriendly girl checked me in .. making me feel as If she was making me a big favor for doing so. I had a confirmed city view and got a room overlooking the back of the building . When I complaint she said they were full and she coudnt do anything. I tried to have dinner at the restaurant but only to found out you need to make a reservation at least two hours before you want to go. Tried calling room service and they kept on answering and hanging up.. Until JUAN took my order and the order never arrived. The fitness center opens at 9:00 am !! Which I consider a bit late and weird .. They are far from EL Calafate maybe 15 minutes offer transfers but once again you need to reserve at least two hours before.. Staff is unfriendly and I got the feeling that they were trying to rip me off all the time. Wifi was not working for the entire weekend. No AC adaptors or USB connectors. Cable TV was blurred all the time.. Make yourself a favor and choose another hotel
Bad location
This hotel is on top of a hill 2 miles away from El Calafate. There is nothing around it, no amenities, no stores, no nothing. There is a shuttle service that runs every other hour (more or less) but te first one starts at 10:15, so if you want to do anything in town before that time good luck. I was under the impression that service also covered the airport but it doesn't. Other hotels pick up their guests at the airport but this hotel doesn't and you have to arrange your own transportation. I was completely unimpressed with my room. The hotel is very stuffy and I had to sleep with windows open. Walls apparently are very thin and you can hear everything your next door guests are doing. Room was clean, breakfast was good, staff was OK in general, some were good others not so eager to help that much.
Nice calm hotel
Nice hotel, just before Calafate. it has a nice restaurant. it has a shuttle service to the town since its 30 mins walk away. Wifi worked ok and the staff was helpful about explaining the different tour options offered in town.
Pleasant hotel good shuttle service to the centre of town
Fantasticrespite from the days activities. Unbelie
A respite from the days activities. Unbelievable views and sunsets about 5 km from the main town which you can see in the distance. there is an adequate gym and a small swimming pool with adjacent spa area. We use the restaurant quite a bit and meals were absolutely fine especially the lomo
The room was very hot during the day and no AC
Honeymoon
My wife and I decided to have a honeymoon in Patagonia. The hotel was really great. It was expensive compared to the others in the area, but was really worth it. The room was very large and comfortable. It felt like more of an apartment than room. The staff was very helpful.
it was excellent the hotel and views. We lost the first night because Aerolineas Argentinas cancelled the flight twice
Excellent Hotel
A very friendly staff and excellent location is what makes the hotel very recommended.
Nice Setting Out Of Town
The hotel is located on a hill about 10 minutes out of town which is nice if you want peace and quiet. Rooms are extremely stuffy and hot as reported by other reviewers. Breakfast choices are also very limited. Overall a very nice hotel which is let down by the room temperature and lackluster breakfast choices.
Tourism, vacation, landscape and adventure
Good experience to repeat for a longer trip duration
Not good value for its price.
First of all, the location of theAlto Calfate Patagonia Hotel is inconvenient. Guests must take an hourly shuttle service to get into town. The shuttle runs up to 20 minutes late. We discovered many other hotels that were more luxurious and less expensive in El Calafate (e.g., Hotel Posada Los Alamos, Hotel Hostem Aike, etc.). The rooms were comfortable, but the elevator needs servicing, one of the two pools had no water and the water in the other pool was too hot. Not good value for its price.
Staff not very professional. hotel isolated but with functioning shuttle bus
A wonderful place to stay
We traveled as a couple to El Calafate, last September , the hotel has a beautiful view of the lake and the town below. The hotel itself is just beautiful and very cosy, with a fire place in the lobby where you can zip a glass of Malbec and admire the view. The shuttle service to down town is definitely a plus and the food is great. To North American standards, the breakfast was the best I had during my stay in Argentina and so was the food in general. The only inconvenient, is if you stay in the room adjacent to the shuttle stop, the noise from the busses will wake you up until they stop running at 23h30 or so. Quick solution, close your window! Because you don’t want to miss out on sunrise over the lake and mountains. As for the Spa, well the pool was warm, not hot and the rest of the amenities are just ok, nothing more. But in General, this hotel made our trip to Argentina !!
Hotel on a Hill, over hyped
This hotel website makes it look much better then it is. Far from the city and it seemed a little over priced for the services, was unable to get an appt for the spa and not treated as expected for the price!
Fabulous
We loved this hotel! It had everything we needed and the restaurant was also fabulous. It is outside of the city center so if you want to be downtown it may not be the place for you, but it did have a shuttle that was free and had a good schedule.
Great service, but not great hotel
The best part of the hotel is the service-- very helpful staff and a nice shuttle service to the center of town during the day. The problem is, you have to use the shuttle because there is nothing near the hotel, the food at the restaurant is very subpar and you won't want to sit in your room because it's small, simple and your wifi probably won't work (as ours didn't). Well, the highlight of El Calafate is being outside anyway, so take that as you will... Moral of the story, stay here if the price is right and you're planning to be out on tours all day, every day anyway. Don't stay here if you think you're going to want any time to relax at the hotel.
Great view from a comfortable, new lodge
Away from the city center with a great view of the lake and sunsets. Regular shuttle service made dining and city center options easily available. Staff was helpful, although seemingly not as informed on tour / excursion options. Wifi connectivity was terrible both from rooms and lobby, but luckily 3 hard-wired computers in the lobby worked ok.
Great Place
Situated on a hill overlooking the town of el calafate, this hotel is quaint and adorable in its coziness as it does it's best to look like a lodge. Exploring the town is a little tough from here because you have to rely on hotel or public transportation. Other than there being no elevator service on the second day of our stay in would recommend and stay there again.
Great hotel
Great hotel with friendly staff. A bit outside of the town, but the shuttle service makes it very easy to get around. Gorgeous property with a great restaurant on site. Pool and spa areas could have been cleaner, but overall was satisfied.
No reason to stay here...
Rooms are dirty, staff is rude, food is average. The hotel is also away from town center. (they provide a free shuttle service). Overall a poorly run organization
Pictures are misleading...
I stayed at the hotel twice over a two week period, and and extremely disappointed. The rooms and bathrooms were dirty, the bed sheet/pillow covers looked old. tired and dirty. The staff seemed extremely unmotivated, and i had a feeling that they really didn't care. They charge you extra everyday for using the sauna/steam room which does not makes sense. Food at restaurant was mediocre. I suggest you look at other options before booking this hotel
Very good quality for price
Came to El Calafate to see the glaciers and enjoy patagonia. This hotel is owned by the country's president (I believe). As such they only exchange money at the official rate. The room we had on the second floor was nice. Very very windy and at times difficult to sleep. May not just be an issue at this hotel, but in general something to be aware of. One of the days we didn't have much hot water, not sure what was going on that day. Very nice restaurant overlooking city. Shuttle to city worked fine for our needs. Used HIela y Aventura to go minitrekking which is not to be missed. They picked and dropped us. Went to town the day we got there to arrange that. Nice lobby. Wifi very tempermental, seems they have facetime and viber blocked as I couldn't use them here. Nice lobby-very ski chalet look. Nice gym, small pool that looked onto the grassy area out back. I would likely stay here again.
Everything good except for the breakfast
This very comfortable, clean hotel is just a short drive with the complimentary shuttle from the center of El Calafate. The rooms were nice, if not opulent, and the staff was quite friendly, especially Francisco at the front desk. The only thing they need to do is make the breakfast a bit more substantial. While it was free, there was almost nothing to it. Also, I ordered a Diet Coke and found out that I had to pay for it, after the fact. But, all in all, it was fantastic.
Great Hotel for a family and couples
I was there in my honey moon, and we had a good time. the service and facilities were great. The Hotel is beautiful and confortable, has a nice restaurant, swimming pool, spa and shuffle transport to El Calafate town each hour from 2pm to 11pm.
Great property
The only negative is that the hotel is not within the center of the town. You'll need to either take a taxi (cheap) or the hotel's shuttle. Otherwise, it's a beautiful property with beautiful views. It's also closer to the airport than the town!
Nice hotel for El Calafate
Nice hotel, nice view from atop a hill. Nothing spectacular, but a solid hotel if visiting El Calafate. Service is efficient, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Away from it all.
Great views of town and lake. Nice setting for sun sets as well
A good hotel in El Calafate
Overall facility was fine and service was fine (including the restaurant), only knock on the hotel was the sound proofing between rooms.
Pleasantly Surprised!
Overall great experience for the money. Dinner service was the only disappointment. At 11PM and only four tables an hour for soup and salad....too long of a wait. Front office was superb!!
Best part of our holiday in S America
The view from the hotel more than makes up for the fact that it is a 30 minute walk or a shuttle bus journey from the town. The hotel staff were all very helpful and spoke good English. Everything very efficient and well organised. Breakfasts ok but mostly carbs. not much fresh fruit but maybe that's down to the climate here.
Expereince the Glaciers in unique comfort
lovely facility at end of town. Elevator little scary, but otherwise, beautiful views of lake and town and mountains and distant Patagonia.
Excellent Hotel in Patagonia
We stayed 3 nights at this excellent Hotel while visiting Calafate and the surrounding glaciers. The Hotel staff was very nice and helpful. The Hotel restaurant where we had dinner twice was also outstanding. The gym and small spa were O.K. The Hotel is a bit far (6 Km) from the center of town but they have free transportation every half hour or so. The Hotel itself sits on top of a beautiful hill overlooking the gorgeous Argentina lake. The sunrise and sunset were spectacular. Our room had a magnificent lake view.
Nice hotel with geat views!
Great location overlooking Calafate and Lago Argentino. Real rooms with a view! Recently renovated aind updated, but mainained country home flair. Nice pool and fitness, restaurant OK.
lovely hotel
Lovely hotel and wonderful experience. I recommend making the check out later than 10 am. That is a bit early for Argentina, especially being so out of the way. Also, the hotel shoul offer hot drinks in the room.
Latinamerican Switzerland!!!
Unforgettable experience! Great staff and service.
Alto Calafate
Excellent hotel, great restaurant and friendly staff. Only negative is that it is a bit far from town center...though they do have a shuttle bus that runs regularly.
this is no 4 star
while the hotel is not in the center,it has a nice view. The hotel does not qualify 4 and above stars. Basic necessities are cut short.Mattress was terrible.Front desk was helpful.Old rustic charm to this hotel.
Great place to visit.
We loved the location and the view from the hotel.
one of the best in El Calafate
The Hotel is one of the closest from the airport. A little far from downtown. But It has free shuttle to the town every 30 minutes. it is very convenience. The service is superb. the breakfast is great. very nice place to stay in El Calafate
Quietness and wonderful view
Quiet place, far from the city centre but connected with frequent buses. Incredible landscapes to enjoy and comfortable rooms. Bit expensive.
Alto Calafate - amazing views, great hotel
We loved staying at the Alto Calafate. Although it is a bit out of town, they run a convenient shuttle service so it's not too much of a problem and a cab is only about 20pesos. The views are to die for! And the restaurant in the hotel served us an amazing meal, one of the best ribeye steaks I've ever had. I'd definitely recommend the Alto Calafate. Only small negative is that some of the staff are not so good with tourist information. But they are super-helpful!
The worst experience - Avoid going there
The good: 1-Hotel has good facilities at the lobby and restaurant. The bad: 1-I went there in summer and the wind was so strong and hitted so bad the ceiling that we couldnt sleep anything. 2-Personnel at the lobby were unkind. 3-The water of the shower was cold and it took 10 minutes to get warm. We asked for help and the people at the reception told us to wait for 3 hours. 4-The service of concierge sold us an excursion were a nothing was as expected: -We bought an excursion day to see the glaciars and ended in a town 100 kms far walking for 4 hours. -We paid for VIP and received a service of 8th category. -The guy who drove us was kind. -Nothing that he told us that the trip was about was true. (a-The lunch was terrible, b-we ended walking 4 hours in a middle of a forrest were there was nothing to see (The place is called Chalten), c-he extra charge us USD 100 for nothing) SINCERILY, IF YOU GO TO CALAFATE DONT STAY IN THIS HOTEL.
Lovely and Luxurious
I loved my stay at Alto Calafate. The staff were wonderful -- very helpful and accommodating. The breakfast buffet included every type of food imaginable and all the food, including the two dinners I ordered from room service, was excellent. The location is a little bit out of town, but the amazing view from the room was well worth it, especially since the shuttle is convenient and runs frequently. The only complaint I have is that the staff told me it was not possible to do a day trip to El Chalten -- if you go to El Calfate, you should know that you can go to Chalten in a day and there are companies downtown that will arrange this for an inexpensive fee. Other than that, I would definitely stay here again and I hope to do so in the future.
Best Place to stay
We really enjoyed our stay at the Alto.A wonderfull cosy hotel with very helpfull staff. And the hotel restaurant is out of this world!!! (at very reasonable prices). Also situated 3 km out of town so very peacefull with a free shuttle every 15 min.
Nice cozy hotel in El Calafate
This is a very nice hotel in a relatively bleak city. It has a great lobby, nice rooms, a pretty good restaurant, and the people were very helpful. It is slightly outside the city, but there is a shuttle every 30 minutes. This appeared to be the nicest hotel in town. I would definitely stay here again.
Perfect choice
.
Amazing Hotel
Alto Calafate is a gorgeous hotel. It has lovely views of the lago Argentino and the restaurant is top notch. The food is amazing! It is located at the entrance of El Calafate (about 3 km from town) but it has a shuttle service running every 15 min, which is perfect and convinient.
Just Perfect
It´s an excellent hotel! Beautiful architecture, amazing view of Lago Argentino from the room; very kind and helpful staff. Nice, clean and quiet rooms. The bed just embrasses you for great dreams of Patagonia. The restaurant is certainly one of the best choices in El Calafate. The distance from downtown is not a problem, the hotel offers a very convenient transfer service. I strongly recomend this hotel.
Extremely nice hotel
This hotel has so many great things that I will only mention a few: good breakfast, extremely nice people, incredible views, and if you like to work out, the gym has huge glass window overlooking the blue lake. The only downside of hotel is that is located in the outskirts of town - nothing walking distance, but, they have a free shuttle that takes you to the center (downtown) every 30 minutes. I'll stay here when I return. In summary, great place - don't think it twice to stay here.
Excellent stay in El Calafate
Excellent hotel with excellent view.
Excelent option
I was completely satisfied. Nice hotel with beautiful view to Argentina Lake.
Great service!
Had to book an emergency last minute room and they accommodated me. Great service!
