Great location, heroic host.
We booked a week here to visit our daughter who was working in Kefalonia and, for us the location was perfect. Just outside of the gentle, family friendly town of Lixouri on the Paliki peninsula. The apartment was right on the beach, facing Argostoli and the rest of the island. The view from the living room, and two of the bedrooms was stunning. You could easily sit there all day watching the mountains change colour and form. Our host, Kostas, was incredible. Always available, and only too pleased to help. Our stay coincided with hurricane, which the island had never ever experienced (and will hopefully never see again), and Kostas amazing. He even made a trip over the mountain to bring us some supplies for us to weather the storm - provided with his compliments. He was a latter day Greek hero! The beach at the property is so short, front to back, you can be in the sea in seconds rather than minutes. It was virtually empty apart from us! Lixouri has so many restaurants where you can get very tasty decently priced food. We've tried loads of them and only had one bad experience (Spavento). Check with Kostas if in doubt. Definitely recommend The Apolafsi hotel (200m away) for food - it's a lovely setting, all the food is great but try the fried tomatoes and you can thank me later! You may need a car if you don't want to walk, or want visit more of the island. Our apartment (upper level of the front house) had a traditional decor which may not appeal to all, but we loved it.
