I have to share my experience at this hotel so people can seriously avoid it at all costs. I did the mistake of not reading reviews properly or taking them seriously but when I tell you they weren’t joking about the BED BUGS!! It was horrifying and absolutely uncomfortable and disgusting. My girlfriend and I stayed for 4 nights and by the end of our stay I was covered in bites from head to toe (literally) I had them all over my face, arms, legs, back and head. The room is really run down and in a terrible neighborhood that makes you feel unsafe. Homeless everywhere!! Remote for tv was missing, ceiling fan was just a prop, sheets and blanket were very dirty and had hair and bloodstains from the bugs. Elevator was unstable and had to use the stairs for the rest of the trip (stayed on the 4th floor) the only saving qualities was the nice staff. Overall it’s not worth saving your money, you will want to leave this place immediately.

Very dirty. Shower curtain & floor had visible blood stains. The floor in general was very dirty, had to wear shower shoes the entire stay. The tv did not have a remote and did not even turn on by manually pressing the power button. The elevator was unique & interesting, but pretty scary. The location is also not in a good area. Walking up Jones St. at any hour you will encounter MANY homeless. They even have part of Jones st blocked for homeless to set up tents, kinda like outdoor dining areas. Do not recommend for anyone with small kids.

Worst place ever!

There were homeless people camping outside the building and along the sidewalks. It was very scary. There were bed bugs, the walls were dirty, and the white sheets were stained with something. Gave the clerk our information and than he kind of ignored us because he was making a phone call. The customer services was awful too. Worse place ever and the neighborhood is dangerous at night.

Worst hotel experience

I did not expect much from staying in the economy hotel, bit frankly it was the worst experience I've ever had. Bed bugs was the worst problem, I couldn't sleep, and I got bites on my face and hands! Also, the heating was not turned on half of the nights, even though it was close to freezing outside. I could also hear any noises from the street, I guess because the windows couldn't lock well.

Keep looking!

If you're able to successfully make it past the difficult double doors that lead to the elevator to finally reach your room, you will wish you hadn't. The bizarre room set-up aside, there is no temperature control for the room so pray the weather is cool. the window is stuck open and the cord to adjust the blinds had been removed. Thankfully, I had my own bathroom... but it's the kind of place you want to keep your shoes on to shower in. After my first night I desperately wanted to check out and stay anywhere else, but they make you pay in full in advance.

Stayed for 2 nights. First the elevator we had to open ourselves and there were 2 doors, one to the elevator and the elevator itself. Then the room had no air conditioning. So we opened the window but there was no screen. The showers did not look clean. The toilet was okay. We were on the second floor and there were 2 toilets and 2 showers for the entire floor each in separate rooms. We at least had our own sink. The towels we used did not look clean. They were white towels but they looked faded. We were hesitant to sleep under the covers for the possibility of bed bugs. We looked under the sheets but didn’t find any. We never looked in between the bed though. But no bed bugs so far.

BED BUGS

If you want extra guests in your room this is the place for you and when i say guest i mean bed bugs !! This is definitely a place i do not recommend ever ! The location is loud and dirty but i guess you get what you pay for. Inside the hotel the rooms are decent but don't let that fool you ! Only certain rooms have the mini fridges, ours did not have one which i was surprised since it was a very spacious room. Even though our room was very spacious however it wasn't the best , the bathrooms were shared bathrooms which weren't cleaned all the time. The Tv was kind of old fashioned and barely worked all the channels were fuzzy. Upon discovering the bed bugs we got the staff to come up stairs and look which he even seen ! We asked for a refund however all they could offer was another room -___- why would i want another room????? that room probably has them to !!! In the end I never got my money back and I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE EVER !!! I was trying to upload a picture but its not letting me so im assuming its blocked so they dont get exposed

BED BUGS AND BAD MANAGEMENT

This was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. After one night, I woke up with 47 bed bug bites on my face and saw the bugs on the sheets. When I went downstairs to check out, the man at the desk was clueless. He called the owner and they talked for 20 minutes. Finally the man said that the owner would process a refund for the entire stay later that day. It's been a month and I still haven't gotten my money back. I had to book a last minute hotel, spend hundred on a new suitcase and cleaning the clothes I had with me, and hundreds more on medical expenses for the bites and hives I had covering my body. To get that many bed bug bites there had to be an infestation for months that they did nothing about. Nobody should EVER stay at this hotel. Even for a cheap hotel this was beyond disappointing and unacceptable.

It's a good enough hotel. The outside neighborhood is a bit sketchy, so if one isn't accustomed to real life where they live they will be put off, but for those of us with a clue, it's a fine place to stay. We paid for a room with it's own bathroom (there are also options to have a shared bathroom) and the price was the best one will find in SF. The room was clean and comfortable, the hotel is less than a 10 minute walk from Powell St. BART, and there are many, many restaurants within a few minute walk. I'd stay here again when in SF.

OK for price in SF but still horrible.

It was ok because I knew what I was expecting when I was getting a room for $100 a night. But the quality of the hotel was still low. I wouldn't even call it a hotel. I would call it a hostel or an inn, I don't even know what to call it. In a really bad part of town. Homeless people lining the street. Really bad stench of urine and I also got groped and I thought that the woman that did it was trying to feel if I had a wallet on me so I tried to take any turn that I could to try to lose her or someone that she could've told. No AC, only one power outlet in the room and the tv and the refrigerator was plugged into so I had to unplug the tv in order to charge my phone. No screen in the window. Cable for tv was run through the window. Radiator was being held up by a 2 by 4 piece of wood. Toilet and shower was outside of the room and also in separate rooms. No way to hang towel or anything in shower room. Mold on the shower curtain. It did have hot water, I will give it that.

Shower Shoes are Optional

I may have been the first person to stay in that room in months, considering the reviews it received. But since I knew what I was getting into my only real complaint was the cost. I paid a lot on a peak weekend, even by San Francisco standards, this is just my opinion. The area is real sketchy, smells, lots of homeless, the building was under renovation, lots of noise outside, inside. The staff were fine, I think they were feeling the sting of previous reviews. The one thing I will give them is the room, sheets, and floors were relatively clean. I even brought my own bedding based on other people's concerns, it wasn't needed. The shower is drizzling low pressure, there's no screen on the window (interesting), no AC, a couple lights worked, the tv didn't work, I didn't open the fridge, there's no room service (good), the internet probably worked, but I decided not to connect to it. I would not recommend the shared bathroom deal. All-in-all, if you're not squeamish, and you're in for an adventure, I'd give it a crack, warranted the price is right.

Hotel of Sleeze

It is roach infested, there are bed bugs, there were cigarette buds scattered on the carpet, musty smell. Hostels looked far better than this place. SF hotels were all booked due to a convention and I had to pick one that seemed more affordable (according to Midwest standards). I didn't even feel like I could leave my stuff there so I brought all my possessions with me to the Westfield mall and sat down to find another hotel room. I checked in at 5pm and checked out at 8pm - naturally they didn't want to give me my money back, even after I told them they had bed bugs and roaches in the room and there was no way they should be renting to anyone.

the hotel is old and warn. They only clean the rooms after you leave not every day. the staff is used to dealing with deadbeat customers and it effects customer service. The heating system is old and pushes steam out into the air that gives the property a musty feeling. But for the price next to main areas of the city you get a bed and a pretty safe room with security at the door and internet so beggers can't be choosers.

What a disaster

This is the worst "hotel" I have ever stayed at. Truth be told, it is really more of a hostel with shared bathrooms, although my room had its own bathroom. There is not one good thing I can say about this place. It is in a shady part of town, the room was not clean, the bed was uncomfortable, and everything was old and decrepit. You get what you pay for I suppose, and I realize that SF is not a cheap city, so perhaps this meets a need, but boy I wish I had read the reviews before booking here. Do yourself a favor if you are reading this before hand and do not stay here.

I advised them to have a professional look into it. I saw the bugs themselves on my last night at the hotel by then it was too late to check out and get a new hotel. Also, the tub did not seem like it had been cleaned well, so the pictures online were deceiving. Further, online it states they were housekeeping, yet I had to request fresh linens and towels. I addressed my concerns with the front desk and stated they could not do anything then, and I would have to wait until the next day. I had to request fresh linens and towels the next day as well since no one came to the room.

Don't stay here

This place was very very average, and I was expecting a cheap hotel. It's right on the start of tenderloin, the wifi didn't work at all, the cable didn't work, the staff didn't care, our sink was filthy (caked on grime and dirt). Don't expect comfort or to have any amenities. It's below cheap hotel level, I travel a lot and don't expect much and still I found this place awful!

Horrible

Last minute trip to SF. I would never stay here again. I'd rather spend another $100 and receive much better service and accommodations. There were bugs in our room, no shampoo, no hot water, and bad customer service just to list a few.

Came to SF to go to the Folsom Street Fair it was not very far at all from the event and for the rate of the room I felt it was a good deal. Also I didn't seem to have any of the other issues that i read from other travelers. Also it was close to BART and MUNI services. Plus there was lots of local food places.

Utterly disgusting hotel

Disaster of a hotel pick in SAN fransisco. There is no where to park and there are a bunch of sketchy crack heads roaming around. Do not stay here. Pick a nicer hotel and pay the extra $50. There were bugs in the bed and a run down hotel room. Terrible hotel that should be out of business.

Not convenient stay

It was overpriced for the service and the conditions of the so called hotel, it should be called hostel. The bathtub was extremely dirty, so were the plastic curtains. They didn't clean the room or make the bed. I had to ask for extra towels. Overall I wouldn't recommend it to anybody.

Sketchy hotel in a bad part of town and no parking

We got there late at night had to find a parking garage which we had to pay a lot for. As we walked to the hotel I have never seen so many people begging for money and following you which was scary. Then we were shown our room no bathroom or shower in the room, there was blood on the curtain dirty stuff on the walls I slept in my clothes on the blankets with no pillow. I will do way more research next time.

We didn't expect much because the price was really great (compare to other hotels and hostels), we needed just basic things. The hotel is near Union Square, just two blocks from Market St. but in front of the hotel there are a lot of homeless people, anyway, they are all around San Francisco, just ignore them. The cleanliness could be better - in the room and bathroom. However, we needed just a low price near downtown, so for us it was OK.

It was horrible it was dirty had roaches

I would not stay or recommend the hotel it was dirty, scary, bums everywhere outside the place, doing drugs deal going in front of the hotel, roaches in the room. Could not sleep with car alarms, emergency sirens, yelling and screaming outside the room, slamming doors all night, room smelled like marijuana the bathtub was so disgusting and dirty. I am very unhappy!!!! Not worth one cent that I spent and I saved for this trip having eight kids!

DO NOT BOOK

DO NOT BOOK!! I booked this room knowing it was cheap and quite a walk away from any of the tourists attractions but figured al I needed it for was a place to sleep through the night until I continued traveling the next day. I pulled up into the HOMELESS COMMUNITY. Hundreds of homeless people everywhere, 4 of them digging in trash outside the hotel. I watched one make a drug deal and nonchalantly swing a huge bag of drugs around in his hand. The corner of the street had at least 8 cop cars. Parking was either street (metered) parking of $5.90 an hour or the limited hotel parking of $20. I did not feel safe staying there at all and I took that $70 cancellation fee and booked a hotel outside of San Francisco. Seriously, DONT BOOK HERE! I know it's cheap but it is NOT worth it.

Good experience

If you are able to ignore the activities outside the building you can get a good night sleep. We were very close to restaurant and the Bart. If you are walking around the area just take you precious and you'll be fine.

I thought the staff was very in friendly. I had a friend visiting Sf and I wanted him to stop by for a visit and they would not allow. I renting a hotel room I should be able to have so e stop by. The bed made a lot of noise. Was comfortable if on the floor. Would not Stay here again or advise anyone to.

Good for the price, don't expect luxury

Definitely a good thing that I was able to book a private room with a private bathroom. I wasn't expecting the best but I definitely came in wanting to get the best out of it. Overall, it was ok. The pillows were too soft, there was no A/C, the window didn't close all the way and the neighborhood is very sketchy. Definitely bring ear plugs because it's loud at night with the hobos shouting and yelling at each other and the noise of police or ambulance sirens going off in the middle of the night. Gladly, I found a pair of ear plugs and had a pretty good sleep for my last night. Good distance away from some cheap but good restaurants. I would suggest Un Cafecito next to the hotel's parking lot for breakfast/lunch, Pakwan or Chutney for Indian/Pakistani food, and Chabaa for Thai.

Located in an unsavory part of town

Lots of homeless & gang members (tattooed, big knives carried on their belt) around area. Would recommend getting a hotel a bit closer to the shops instead (just 1-2 blocks down). On the plus side it's very conveniently located within a short walk to the shopping area, San Fran trolley, places to eat & car rental places. But choose another hotel that's not in the rough part of Union Square.

Clean, friendly and affordable

The staff is very friendly. The room is large with plenty of floor space to move around. Bed is comfortable with the exception of the pillows they flatten out as soon as you touch them. Bathroom and showers are ok, cleaned daily. The only downsides were slow internet that kept shutting off, nats flying around in room which could be solved by a screen, the shower doesn't get hotter than luke warm and no microwave.

The elevator is in poor condition. Even though is not allowed to smoke inside the building, the 2nd and 3rd floors smells like cigarette. The heater can't be controlled from the room and the window is partially opened and can't be closed, it's only blocked with a window shade. The neighbors are very loud and you can hear every single talk from the room.
