Superb property in the middle of everything yet quiet.

Fine place to stay

Great stay. Michael our host was super helpful guiding us there. Park outside Sissi and take the small red bus into town, 1.50 each get off at the last stop it’s 100 yards from there. Nice room with a view. Lots of stairs, that’s matera for you. The room was spacious but the bed was quite firm so keep that in mind.

Great place!

Very close to the ring road.Michael was very helpful by picking me up from the outskirts. He made sure I had maps and info and took me to the bus stop at the end of my stay.

Our stay at Agli Archi Dimore Storiche was absolutely wonderful. Michele the owner is so kind, he picked us up from the car park and drove us into the old city of Matera. He showed us on a map the best walking path and sights. We can’t wait to visit again!

Lovely buidling and location.

It's at the heart of Sassi and the gorge. Next to famous film location. Could have upgraded their aircon as it is a little warm but the staff was friendly to give us electric fan, but overall stay was ready good.

Excellent host who met us at the bus station which is in the new city of Matera. We should have gone by train from Bari not bus! The old stone buidling is typical of the ancient quarter and well located for restaurants, bars and is in the main historic area. The host is friendly and the place is highly recommended.

Hidden gem

Matera is beautiful and historic. We could not park in old city but we’re collected from where we parked. The room was period and comfortable. Many places to see and dine. This is a hiker city and not for those with limitations since many stairs and inclines are difficult. Don’t miss seeing Matera.

We were met by Michael who carried our heavy suitcase up and down stairs for us after a long day. He was charming and helpful. The room was delightful.

Exceptional service

Mikela provides amazing service to his guests. We drove around for two hours trying to locate the area and finally called. Mikela came immediately on his scooter and led us to his B&B. He then guided us to a parking place. The room was very large, clean and well furnished. The location in the Sassi is very good..

It was the perfect place to stay in the town, with a wonderful view from the bedroom. For cleanliness and comfort it was 5/5. The owner was extremely kind picking us up in the town when we arrived late in the evening following a flight delay. The town is quite magical and well worth the visit, I would be very happy to stay here again.

The property was uniquely located right in the heart of the old part of Matera. It was furnished in a traditional style which felt in keeping with the historic centre. The accommodation was both comfortable and clean and the host Michaeli was very helpful and informative.

Lovely owner who drove us with our bags to the car park and a perfect room

Location just fantastic with a killer view of the stone church outside your w8ndow at night. Michael was great and helped us find parking for the car and allowed us to leave our luggage with him the next day after we had checked out so we could explore Sassy all day. Bed was comfortable with 2 extra pillows. Complimentary large waters in the room fridge

Exceptional accommodation in exceptional venue

We had a brilliant time in Matera. The room we stayed in was unusual - a staircase down into a large vaulted space, very clean and with astonishing views of a 12C church cut from a rocky outcrop. The host, Michele, could not have been more helpful. He collected us from the bus station on the evening of arrival and took us back on the morning of departure. In short, great value for money and highly recommended.

MAGICAL STAY IN TRADITIONAL HISTORICAL UNESCO AREA

My stay at Agli Archi Dimore Storiche was magical. Views to historic UNESCO area, cave church, great eating close by, and close to taxi and bus stops. I was not surprised to hear that both films "Wonder Woman " and "The Passion of Christ " were filmed close by. The apartment is large and simply decorated with elegant and traditional antique touches and with attention to comfort such as flyscreens, aircon, fantastic shower and large bathroom. The owner was exceptionally kind and drove me from the the bus station for which I was very grateful. He also checked to make sure I was comfortable and happy with everything each day. If I return to Italy I will definitely stay at this accommodation again. So good!!

Memorable and unique stay in old town Matera

Amazing experience to stay in Matera and in this property. Of all the places we stayed in Puglia (in Bari, Lecce, Costa, and more), this one was the most unique and special for me and my boyfriend. The location is just perfect, right in the historical town center and very close to an important church, Chiesa di San Pietro Caveoso, with a beautiful view of the vast Park, Parco della Mugia Materana. From the property, you can walk to many nice cafes, restaurants, bars, and major sights to experience Matera to the fullest. The owner and manager, Michael and his wife, are very friendly and helpful. Michael provided helpful tourist information for a nice walk around old town, good vista view points, restaurants for dinner. They even gave us a lift to catch the bus back to Bari. Thank you both very much for helping us enjoy our stay!

Great views, great service

People gasp when they see the photo of the view from my staircase leading to room 6 where I stayed last week. The owner speaks limited English, but more than enough to get you properly situated (he was able to direct me to a lavanderia so I could catch up on laundry). More importantly, he completely saved me by being flexible enough to drive my luggage to the train+bus station when my tour ran late, while the original plan was that he had offered to give me a ride there after I had rolled/lugged my luggage upon my arrival - this is going above and beyond.

We have never received service like we did from Michele. The Sassi area of Matera is difficult for parking. He met us in town and led us to the hotel, then went with us to a secure parking garage. When we left the next day, he walked with us to the car and guided us down to the hotel, which we could never have managed. It was extraordinary service.

In the middle of Matera

Loved our two nights here. Definitely stay at least two nights. Get Olive oil tour. Ate at Sole Kitchen twice. Get up for sun rise and go to the park across the valley.

Affordable comfort on the heart of the sassi

Michele was most helpful in finding our way by car to this fascinating accommodation and was there to greet us and help with our baggage. It was perfectly situated for exploring Matera on foot. Our rooms had wonderful views of this unique city. We could not park overnight in the historical district and finding street parking overnight in Matera is a real challenge, however there is a parking garage with an hourly rate within a reasonable distance.

Recommended for a relaxing family stay

We had a lovely stay here. Michele communicated very well before our arrival, and even during it stay when we required more toiletries. He gave us thorough directions into Sassi to meet him outside of the hotel, helped unload luggage, showed us the entire room and how to operate the windows and lights. He then drove with my husband to find parking in a free area. This was about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. During the walk back Michele explained the city to my husband, referred him to several good places to eat, and even told him some interesting facts about some of the buildings. He gave us a map of the city and helped my husband to guide our family during our stay. The room was comfortable, had a very nice large shower, and amazing water pressure which is always a bonus when staying in hotels. There was a mini fridge stocked with 2 bottles of water per person in the room, and plenty of coffee capsules for espresso. We had ample towels, which we appreciated because normally we are never even given enough towels for all 4 of us. This hotel is perfectly located. You walk out of the room and have the most gorgeous views available to you, including a stairway that was used in the Passion of the Christ. A few steps more and you have an amazing view of the ravine and all of the cave homes across the ravine. There is a cafe across from the hotel that has delicious cornettos and bruschetta. Panecotto is nearby with a delicious menu. Thank you Michele for a wonderful stay!

Unique hotel, great location+value

Enjoyed wonderful 2 night stay in unique Sassi Caveoso Matera. Michele and Angela the owners are wonderful. Very friendly, helpful with questions via email before our arrival. Room was very clean, comfortable, terrific amenities like espresso maker and lots of bottled water. Gorgeous view and small balcony to sit outdoors. Michele helped us find free safe street parking and intro tour to town.

Perfect location & v clean

We had a perfect stay at this hotel, exactly what we were after. The location is right in the center of the Sassi. The rooms are big, with high ceiling, good free wifi, no breakfast but coffee machine in the room. The owners are lovely and were v helpful and kind.

Wonderful location in Sassi.

The location is incredible! So many great sites within a few minutes walk!! Staff was excellent in helping you locate the hotel in the historic district. The Sassi is incredible since its a maze of wonderful buildings, so trying to find the hotel on your first day could be difficult with the roads. The staff were extremely helpful getting us there and helping with parking our car. The appeal is staying in the historic district, so the rooms are renovated historical buildings. Our room was very clean, comfortable with modern amenities such as new bathroom, refrigerator, coffee machine and heater. The view was of the Caveaso Church peak! Highly recommend staying here!

Amazing location, amazing hosts!

We loved everything about our stay! Our host Michael came and picked us up from the Matera bus terminal where we arrived and dropped us off there 4 days later when we departed. He recommended places to eat along with some things to do. Despite some language barriers he was super helpful and kind! We will definitely return.

Location & Quality

The B&B is ideally located in the center. Michele, the owner, is very gracious and helpful. The GPS wanted to guide us through the town in order to reach the hotel. Instead we recommend following an external road that completely circles the old part of town. Although the sign says it is traffic prohibited, it is safe to drive to the hotel to drop off your luggage and to return to the hotel to pick up your luggage because Michele will provide the city with your license plate number. This allows you to go in and to go out. Michele will also provide you with very good directions and a map for a place nearby where you can park for free. Our car was perfectly safe in that location. Michele was very gracious and insisted on carrying our luggage. The room is spacious and the shower is large enough to fit six people. The location is also perfect because it is at the base of the hill and therefore you can easily drop your luggage off and pick it up. There's a small terrace where you can place two chairs and watch the comings and going's on the Piazza below you. Additionally it is ideally located below the hill of Casa Noha and above the hill from the Casa Grotta. Both are "must's" if you were in the area. The Casa Noha provides an excellent documentary in English that is essential if one wants to understand the history of the town. Thereafter, the Casa Grotta, is a sassI ( Home dug into the limestone like a cave ) that was continuously occupied until 1957 and

Great location and room

Excellent place to stay for exploring the Sassi.

The accommodation was excellent and had great character and was beautifully fitted out, spacious and with lovely views and right in the centre of sassa caveosa for sightseeing. Breakfast was not supplied but we did have a coffee machine and cafes close by. The owner is working on another part of the buidling with plans to provide a breakfast room in the future. He and his wife were very welcoming and helpful and we were even given a lift to the station when we left.

Nice rooms in the middle of the Sassi

Nice and spacious rooms in a great location. The owner was friendly and gave us great recommendations of restaurants. Be aware that there is no parking close buy. You need to park in the upper part of the city (modern side) and then walk to the Sassi area where the hotel is located. They can arrange for you to drive your car for a few minutes to drop the luggage.

All the ambience of the sassi.

Ali Archi has all the charm and ambience of the sassi combined with modern comforts. The bedroom and bathroom were both very spacious and the location in caveoso sassi is perfect. Michele, the owner was extremely helpful and friendly. This small hotel is really good value and we would thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Matera.

Lovely room, gracious owners

Michele Novielo went out of his way to make my stay lovely. He lent me an internet wire attachment when my wireless did not work. He rearranged his scheduled to take me to the bus stop earlier than was his preference when I left. Very lovely and large and modern room across the street from the caves and 1- 1.5 km from heart of new downtown

Very difficult to access the hotel.

Extremely bad sleep due to the most uncomfortable bed! The room spacious but unattractive.

Paradise in Matera

From start to finish this was a highlight of my time in Italy. Matera is a treasure of a town. I had a superb room, excellent attention to detail by Michele and Angela. It was hard to leave, but I'll be back. Very impressive.

Helpful staff

The downside of this location is that there is no parking near the Hotel. Our GPS kept directing us down a one way street the wrong way and we couldn't get to the hotel. A phone call to the hotel brought the manager up on his scooter to lead the way. We were able to stop at the hotel to check in and unload our luggage. The manager directed us to free street parking about 1 km away. The room and bed were very comfortable and the area spectacular.

We will one day return!

This is a gem of a place to stay. We had a bit of trouble finding it, as we came on foot from the train station. But once we knew where it was, we realized how close it was to one of the main piazze (in the old town) and how great the location was. The room it self was airy but cozy, very clean, and nicely appointed. It we'd known how amazing Matera would be, we would have stayed even longer than 2 nights! The best thing about the place were the owners. They also recommended things to do that were going on in Matera during our visit. When they learned that we were going to Napoli upon leaving Matera, they offered to drive us to the local bus station (impossible to walk to) so we could take the non-stop bus (instead of our having to schlep our bags to the train station and take two trains to get there). We happily accepted their offer and they not only got us to the bus on time, they made sure we got on the right bus! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Well located hotel with all amenities

Loved it from start to finish. The hosts were exceptionally wonderful and helped us with our ongoing transfer to Sorrento.

Great location

The staff were particularly helpful, meeting us from the taxi and arranging a taxi to take us to the station for our train to Bari. From the hotel the whole of the historic region was within walking distance. Although no breakfast was provided there was an ample supply of water and coffee. A lovely snack bar/small restaurant opposite the hotel with other restaurants within easy walking distance.

Incredible Location

Small room but very clean and comfortable room in an incredible location. Cant beat it!

Central position, very comfortable and clean

Arrived in taxi, owner waiting for us, gave thorough overview of room. Our italian language poor, owners patient and made our stay enjoyable. Wonderful accommodation, warm amd well appointed. Would not hesitate to recommend to others, excellent value and best accommodation we have stayed in Italy so far.

Sajnos pont építkeznek a szomszédban és emiatt elég nagy a por illetve reggel 8-tól már zajonganak. Csak ezért a gyengébb értékelésem. Nagyon kedves a házigazda, nagyon kényelmes az ágy, a párna minőségét külön kiemelném. Nagyon jó helyen van, könnyű mindenhonnan vissza találni.

Il titolare è una persona super disponibile che si mette a disposizione per qualsiasi cosa ed in qualsiasi momento. La Camera è pulita e completa di frigo pieno d acqua, bollitore e macchina per il caffè. Le cose più belle sono la posizione e la Vista dalla finestra. Un saluto al titolare, professionista.

Quasi eccellente

Nel centro di Matera. Dentro ad un sasso. La stanza molto bella e pulita. Il proprietario è gentilissimo e cordialissimo. Non c’è il parcheggio essendo proprio nel centro ma il proprietario, una volta scaricata l’auto dai bagagli, ti accompagna al parcheggio. Ti concede un permesso speciale per entrare in centro con la macchina per il tempo del deposito bagagli. Peccato che manchi la colazione. Un buono ad un Bar vicino poteva essere un’ottima soluzione.

Hôtel bien situé à Matera

Hôtel très bien situé pour visiter cette ville magnifique et étonnante. Le propriétaire des lieux est très sympathique et très serviable. Je recommande cet endroit pour séjourner 1 ou 2 nuits.

Notre séjour d'une nuit dans un véritable sassi a ajouté au charme de notre visite dans cette ville remarquable et unique. Très bien situé à la jonction des 2 quartiers. Propriétaire très serviable, avenant, amical et généreux en explications de toutes sortes pour apprécier notre séjour. Nous gardons un excellent souvenir de notre passage à cette auberge très authentique.

la posizione è unica! nel cuore del sasso caveoso. I proprietari sono di una gentilezza infinita, premurosi e attenti. La stanza era molto spaziosa come il bagno. La vista dalla finestra ....bellissima! in camera ci hanno fatto trovare acqua nel frigo e macchina del caffè ... non potevamo scegliere meglio.

Esperienza più che positiva.A parte la bellezza unica del posto il soggiorno è stato gradevolissimo per la sistemazione. Camera arredata con gusto e dotata di ogni confort, pulizia curata in ogni particolare. Il B&B è gestito direttamente dai titolari molto disponibili e attenti a soddisfare ogni necessità degli ospiti. Basti pensare che il titolare, sig. Michele, mi ha guidato a destinazione seguendomi telefonicamente durante tutto il percorso in auto fin da quando gli ho conunicato di avere problemi col navigatore. Ottimo tutto: consigliatissimo!

Zona centrale, vista splendida su Chiesa Santa Maria de Idris, Piazza San Pietro Caveoso, si arriva a piedi a tutto, in 10 min. si arriva comodamente a Piazza G. Pascoli ( centro). Noi abbiamo soggiornato in camera 2, pulita, comoda, molto spaziosa ( per 4 persone). Grazie a Michele, che e un grande.

Matera con fascino

Ottima posizione facilmente raggiungibile sia con mezzi privati che pubblici. Grande gentilezza e collaborazione del proprietario. Stanze funzionali ma ovviamente per Matera accesso con scale. Prezzi onesti. In zona vari locali e bar.

Siamo stati nel fine settimana ed il personale , la camera e la posizione sono ottimi :)

Un fine settimana oltre le aspettative

La struttura si trova al centro dei sassi di Matera e dalla finestra vi è la vista di una delle chiese più particolari di Matera. Il sig. Michele è stato disponibilissimo e ci ha anche accompagnato in un parcheggio dove lasciare la macchina visto che la stanza si trova in una zona a traffico limitato. Stanza comoda con un bel bagno. Ci siamo trovati benissimo e Matera è veramente bella da visitare. Consigliamo vivamente questa struttura. Claudio e Bruna

Impresionante Matera

Las habitaciones amplias y limpias, comodas. El señor muy atento nos llamo ya que habia nevado y nos infico como llegar, ademas de acompañarnos a buscar parqueo. El baño comodo y bonito. Lo unico que al hacer un frio inusual las habitaciones no eran muy calientes, pero era comprensible. La ubicacion perfecta al centro. Recomendado

Il proprietario e la moglie sono persone molto cortesi e gentili, sono stati disponibilissimi attenti ad ogni nostra esigenza. Giunti in questo caratteristico albergo abbiamo subito notato l'eccellente pulizia della camera, un bagno enorme e dotata di un frigo bar con bottiglie d'acqua e una macchina da caffe con capsule e zucchero tutto gratuito. L' ubicazione del hotel è proprio al centro del lato caveoso , a piedi si raggiungono facilmente tutti i posti da visitare. Lo consiglio ad occhi chiusi e sono sicuro che se voleste tornare per una seconda volta a Matera....scegliereste sempre lo stesso hotel... Agli Archi Dimore Storiche !!!
