Excellent stay ,room was compact but functional ,great staff with speedy early check-in, unfortunately the lift was out of order however as we hadbeen alocated a first floor room this was not an issue, there are a number of good restaurants near abode, sarti (next door) Verona 5 minute walk both italian, the are around the hotel appeared to be quite litter strewn ,this is an issue in a number of big cities.
Very good
Had a lovely overnight stay at the Abode, great location, only negative I have was my friends room had snacks and refreshments and we only had tea and coffee🤔
City centre trip
I have stayed here for over 10 years and it has maintained standards over that time. Great city centre location, comfortable rooms and hearty breakfast.
Don't ask for toast.....
The building itself is charming, but it’s clear it could use some maintenance—a fresh coat of paint would do wonders. Unfortunately, the service fell short of expectations. At breakfast on the second day, I was informed that toast wasn’t an option because they’d run out of bread. Instead, I was given the "last croissant" as though it were a generous gesture. For £94 per night, such oversights are unacceptable. If kitchen supplies run low, especially with a Tesco just across the road, it’s hard to excuse not restocking essentials like bread.
.
Upon arrival the receptionist was so helpful and friendly and same upon leaving. I required an accessible shower and this was provided but at the cost of our double bed it seems. I paid for a double bed but we got two single beds pushed together which because they were on wheels slid apart meaning they were hazardous and just not what I booked. I’m really disappointed as it did spoil it for me, having a disability always serms to mean I have to compromise on something and this for me was pretty unacceptable. I sadly didn’t complain as frankly I knew the situation would be the same and probably no further rooms to swap with. Sadly this is my main reason for not staying here again as otherwise it was pleasant. I must also say the shower was very slippery and dangerous so definitely not safe for me either.
Wonderful Birthday Trip
My stay was wonderful. They ended up giving me a free upgrade! It was my birthday ( they did not know) and that make it feel like a secret wish come true. The room was lovely!! I have no complaints. The heating worked well. The bed was super comfortable and it was within walking distance to many places I wanted to see. I will definitely stay here ago if I visit Glasgow in the future.
Bathrooms tired and in need of refresh.
Lovely hotel
Stayed at the Abode Glasgow many many years ago , booked again for a nights stay whilst in Scotland visiting family . Still as beautiful as I remembered. Super comfy beds Didn’t disappoint
Nice old hotel.. handy for town
Hotel a lovely old style 1830s original building. No food available other than breakfast despite web showing menu. No biggy. Staff really nice and friendly and immediately helpful with requests. Breakfast quality food very good. (Coffees not brilliant). Handy for town- 7 mins downhill.
A wee gem in the heart of Glasgow.
The hotel was a 5 minute walk from the bus station. The room was large and comfortable. The air conditioning rattled a little but the bed was very comfortable. I’d recommend you take up the breakfast as part of your booking. Everything is cooked fresh and brought to your table piping hot. Even the croissant are warm and fresh. When I come to Glasgow I’m coming back here. You can keep your large hotel chains and waiting I lines for breakfast. Glasgow Abode - 9/10. Brilliant.

Disappointed
We we're a little disappointed with the room, fixtures were dated and a little scruffy, not really represented accurately by online photos. You can throw in a few tins of free juice and a snacks but room needed a revamp including new bathroom with modern shower. Breakfast service was slow, seemed to be understaffed, food was good when it came but flickering light above our table was horrible. Location is good with Q Park across the street. Overall I think we'd probably try elsewhere on our next trip to Glasgow.
Overnight stay
Beautiful building good breakfast and comfortable bed
Loved the original preserved decor and features. Unfortunately the widow in our room would not close properly because the old original winding mechanism no longer works.
Would not stay here again. Cleanliness in room an issue with thick dust around headboard, dirty/used coffee mug from previous occupant. Noise from street and also a loud humming noise worse in bathroom but could be heard throughout. Didnt manage to sleep much because of it. Was like loud air conditioner but it wasnt on!
Staff was fantastic and helpful
Poor customer service
On arrival our room smelled strongly of chemicals/ smoke. We asked to change rooms but the next room was directly above the original and smelt just as bad. We delayed checking in and when we returned later were offered another room. We asked if they could confirm if this had been checked for any odours, at which point the management member who was dealing with this became really stroppy and started hammering her keyboard. Both myself and the receptionist were clearly embarrassed by this awful behaviour and attitude of the staff member.
Good location
Had 2 night stay booked. Checked in but didn’t actually stay. Room had pungent smell of mood or mothballs. Aggravated my asthma so moved to other hotel. Second time I’ve been given a room with this problem. Will never stay there again.
Didn’t like the receptionist saying our hotel number out loud (it was busy and this is a safety issue). But the rest of the hotel was lovely. The room was clean and comfortable.
I was traveling solo from out of the country, and the staff was so accommodating and helpful when it came to the questions I had about the city and my stay.
Went to attend Celtic football match hotel was over priced but all hotels in Glasgow inflate there prices when Champions league games are on or anything ells for bog standers accommodation hotel was ok the lift was best feature of hotel
Quite and Clean
Staff really friendly & courteous. Have stayed here numerous times & never disappoints. Rooms superb & facilities excellent.
Have stayed at the abode a few times, in this occasion I did not enjoy, booked family room, sofa bed wasn’t made up, and when it was it was like sleeping on the floor
Great accommodation and great location and at an Amazing price. Would definitely use this hotel again and would recommend to others.
Lovely stay
Quick and easy check in. The front desk was able to change our room from 2 twins to double (our mistake when booking) with no hassle and was very kind. We were in room 103 in the back corner which was nice a quiet. The windows didnt open all the way, which wasnt a bother to us. There was some noise in the mornings and evenings, but you're in a city, its to be expected. All staff was polite, friendly and helpful.
The stench in this hotel was overpowering, a mix of mildew and smoke. We were told there were no other rooms available. It was also pretty clear that our rooms were not ready when we arrived in the early evening. Do not recommmend. Had it not been our first night in the country we would’ve booked another hotel.
Looks lovely but avoid
This looks a fab hotel and the old fashioned cage lift is gorgeous. I had a tiny room with windows that were screwed shut - looked awful. The air conditioning was so loud, that I couldn’t sleep and as the room was so hot (without heating on) I had to keep it on. I couldn’t open the window as it was screwed shut. It started around midnight and the hotel will say you should have let us know, but at that hour I wasn’t up for moving rooms. I can’t have been the first to alert to this - it was like a Boeing jet! Remote for to didn’t work, so was stuck on one Channel. Those things should have been checked Issue with the bed base, meaning it sagged. Again, should have been checked Bathroom really small. Avoid, it looks lovely but really tired
The history of the hotel was interesting to know.
Great hotel. Stylish building, good location, helpful staff, good breakfast. Top marks.
Overpriced
Hotel close to the center and many restaurants. Staff very friendly. The room was dark and the lampshades covered with dust.
Vert spacious room comfortable and warm.Tv small for size of room . Very limited other facilites .Good central location.
Do you get what you (would) pay for?
I don't know if the hotel was full (suspect not) but on check in I asked if there was a large room for (paid) upgrade as I was sharing and wanted as much space as we could get. Receptionist seemed uninterested and checked us into what must have been the smallest twin in the hotel. But it was clean and comfortable and the street noise wasn't too bad even tho the windows didn't seem to be a great fit The building has some real charm and history too
Lovely stay , friendly and helpful staff, warm and comfortable and very spacious, defo stay again
The room was clean, but the stairs looked like they needed a clean. All staff were friendly and polite. The room had an espresso machine but no cups or instructions, I would rather have a kettle to make myself a cup of tea. The room was quiet and I slept well, however the bed was quite bouncy, so I felt it when my husband turned over. The hotel is on a hill, so be aware if walking around Glasgow. However the car park across the street is handy, albeit expensive even with the discount. Overall enjoyed our stay, but could have gone for a cheaper option in hindsight.
The hotel was quite nice! Right in central Glasgow
Room was ok, however view was a brick wall. Lift was annoying as unless closed correctly it would not work, which was an issue as we were on the top floor.
All good,
At first a big but smelly room - not smoke , but musty. Did get another room without any problem, although smaller and looking out over the internal technical equipment. Breakfast was amazing
Lovely hotel and highly recommend the enviable double rooms as they are huge. The only pitfall would be the lack of a small fridge just keep water cold as the rooms do get very warm despite a good air con system. Great location for walking to either train stations, any of the excape rooms, bars & restaurants. Unique hotel features.
Ticked all the boxes
Very comfortable room, close to where I needed to be. Staff very friendly and the price was good value
Ok stay
Room was fine, a bit tired but ok. It was reasonably clean but needed a good dust. Toilet roll and glasses not replaced after first night. Ran out of toilet roll. Breakfast procedure was poor. It appeared understaffed. Dirty tables on both days with nowhere to sit. Only 2 members of staff on duty doing everything. They were very nice and polite but overworked and as a result the service suffered. For example we waited over 15 minutes from sitting down to our order being taken and then another 5 minutes for our drinks to arrive. This was just too long. When staying in other hotels it is common for guests to access juices, hot drinks, cereal , toast and similar themselves. This approach would help alleviate pressure on staff if undertaken at this hotel. Reception staff very helpful and friendly. Overall a nice hotel but could be excellent with a bit of care and detail.
Staff was very nice and room was large. Room was dated and smelled very musty.
Bathroom roof was cracked, floor tiles in bathroom, were cracked .Stairs from reception to rooms were cracked
Very nice property. Enjoyed our stay.
Overall a good stay
Positives: Nice hotel. Good location. Receptionist was very sweet and helpful. Tall ceilings. Shower with a bath. Comfortable beds. Coffee, teas and hot chocolate included. Free WIFI. Negatives: Restaurant only open for breakfast. Bar is too small. No gym. No fridge in the room. No free bottles of water in the room. Lift didn’t work during our 7 days stay. Slight smell from outside.
Overnight stay
Quite noisy with air conditioning outside window needed to stay open as air conditioning wouldnt set lower than 19. No discount for car parking although there msy have been if i had done it online before which wasnt really explained. Room had everything i needed but could do with an upgrade.
Hotel was nice. Located nice and central. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Room was standard size. Sofa bed was not great; could feel the metal frame poking through and it sloped into the centre. Breakfast waw not great. It was a set menu not buffet and the options were minimal. The poached eggs would comenout either runny or hard boiled. The shatshuka had no tomato or chickpeas and one time came without the greek yoghurt so was bone dry. During busy periods it could take 30 minutes to get your breakfast and often they would forget one or two items ordered. Despite this the breakfast staff were always helpful.
Ask for a quiet room!
A hotel with some interesting architectural features. Reception staff were courteous friendly and efficient. Bedroom was more than adequate. Bed was exceptionally comfortable. Bathroom was modern and clean. A light above the mirrors would have been welcomed. My only real complaint was the noise at all times from outside. I could not sleep. I would stay here again as it is in a good central locality but I would need to request a quieter room.
Enjoyed my stay here. The staff was very helpful and welcoming.
Lovely welcome from staff when booking in. This is a lovely hotel the room was very comfortable and clean. This hotel is central for shops restaurants and bars I would definitely book this hotel again.
Nice spot - central to Glasgow.
We enjoyed our stay in a beautiful room. Very clean. The room felt a bit stuffy but the window didn’t seem to open. Staff were very helpful. Great having the parking across the road. Would definitely stay here again.
Great location, close to the Glasgow train stations
Damp Room, unfitted carpet, broken furniture!!!
Excellent
Room not as advertised, smaller and dated. Complementary items were not as stated (water, etc). Hot and cold water in bathroom didn’t work properly, shower was cold
We loved this beautiful old property with wonderful history . Helpful staff and nice bar and restaurant
Very comfortable stay in heart of Glasgow
Very good stay, friendly and accommodating staff. Planning to return to this hotel again would recommend
Not worth the money
Pleasant staff and lovely entrance/foyer. However, room was more in keeping with a 3-star hotel - dated, dirty in the corners and bed topper/cushions stained.
Good sleep but smelly rooms
Bed was super soft which isn't what we are used to but was comfy and got a good night sleep. The room is dated but the worst thing was the smell. There was a strong damp/stale smoke smell is the rooms which stuck to our clothes all day. The tap in the bathroom are also not great and the radiator constantly leaks
Centrally located. Good restaurant for breakfast, helpful staff. Clean facilities. Comfortable room.
Beautiful rooms, amazing service.
Beautiful hotel, lovely staff, amazing food and service. Huge room with high ceiling, very clean and quality of products good. Would definitely book again.
Great location but the rooms need some updating
We arrived early and were graciously allowed to check in early. The hotel is definitely and older historic hotel. The room had some updates, but the hallways appeared worn. They were also extremely warm, but this may have been because we were on the top floor. The bed was not comfortable at all. The A/C would not stay on or properly cool the room. While the breakfast food itself was good, and the staff was friendly, this area is not being well managed. There were never enough staff working the breakfast space. This resulted in guests having to wait a long time to be seated, for the food to arrive or for the tables to be cleaned. The staff that was present were doing their best, but they needed more help. This happened every morning of our stay. This hotel is in a convenient area of town, however, they need to make some changes to their operations.
Interesting hotel that needs an overhaul of their public areas which are out of touch with the character of the building. The staff were wonderful, especially Katherine and our server in the restaurant. It's an historic building, originally the residence of a Scottish Prime Minister. Our room was his study with the original woodwork, fireplace and built-in bookcases. An amazing room! Ask for the Fabulous room. The bathroom was very modern. Food in the restaurant was wonderful. It's convenient to walk to all the city centre sites and there are tons of great restaurants and shopping nearby.
Glasgow gem .
Great stay here, excellent surroundings extremely near where we needed to be next day and fantastic views of the city. Also beautiful authentic interior and decor in keeping with origin of building. Will definitely be back.
Good location
Upon check-in, the hotel collected my debit card details despite the fact that I had already prepaid for my stay. I was told this was 'in case of extra charges,' but I did not end up using any of the hotel's room service or incurring any additional fees during my visit. However, when I checked out, I discovered that the hotel had charged my card an unexpected additional amount. No explanation was provided for this extra charge, which I found to be highly unreasonable and misleading on the hotel's part. The lack of transparency around additional fees, as well as the unauthorized charges to my card, left me feeling quite dissatisfied with my overall experience at this hotel. I would caution future guests to closely review their final bill and push back on any unexplained charges before completing the checkout process.
Lovely stay
A short walk from the train station. This lovely old building is a fabulous hotel. Wonderful staff. Clean room. The most comfortable bed!! Great water pressure and plenty of hot water.
Terrible value for money.
Terrible value for money. £183 for room only and one of the smallest and most basic rooms I have stayed in. Sink plug was jammed, sink was cracked and wardrobe hangers all fell down as soon as something was put on them. Aircon also didn’t work.
Lovely stay in the suite
The toilet wouldn't flush, the AC unit was so loud and rattled. Bathroom was in terrible condition
Bathroom was a bit tired.
My expectations of the hotel and the facilities within, which I gleaned from the Hotel literature's,fell well short of the actual experience. The hotel room was tired and the bathroom sink was badly cracked. The hotel itself was noisy and the heating system was impossible to work. On the plus side the staff were polite and attentive and the breakfast was really good too. I’m afraid I would not recommend staying here to my colleagues or friends.
Lovely Anniversary Stay
The hotel is gorgeous. Decor is stunning. Very clean. Staff were so helpful. The bed was so comfy. Very quiet. Great facilities all round. Thank you so much.
Historical landmark
Comfortable stay in this unique hotel with rustic period features and superb service
Lovely vintage hotel and great staff
An excellent boutique hotel in the heart of Glasgow. The large suite provided plenty of space to relax. The location is walkable to many of Glagow's sites, transportation, food and shopping. The old school elevator was pretty unique and had the kids in awe. We had breakfast at the restaurant onsite, which was delicious. Just steps outside was an excellent italian restaurant (Sarti) which we visited multiple times. We would not hesitate to stay again at the ABode.
Wanted to like this location…. Rooms were meh, and had multiple issues with our son’s accommodation (first room- toilet didn’t work; second room- a window was broken in the open position and the windows looked into a dirty alley). Had much higher expectations when we booked. Geographically, it was a good location. Just fell short of expectations
Beautiful hotel was an overnight for a concert Spacious room, staff knowledgeable about the hotel and what it used to be that is rare which adds to my stay just a small touch but always disappointing when a hotel is in a magnificent building and staff don’t know he history.
Great location for a central 24 hour visit. Room was lovely, mattress a little soft for preference.
On first arrival we were early but told there was a room available by the receptionist { Tom I think is his name } room 105 on entry the room was dark and dingy, went back to receptionist informed him that the Lights were not working . In fairness he showed me the lights worked from a central switch, but still three lights did not work. The room was cold put the heating on and went out to lunch, returned two hours later and the room was still cold informed the receptionist by this time Sharon was on shift she inspected the room and immediately took charge and told Tom to immediately change rooms he was not pleased but once again Sharon stood firm { Tom did as he was told} Room 304 was excellent as were the rest of the hotel staff ,the food was excellent. Room 105 needs urgent attention cleanliness poor, dirty socks left in the clothes hanger area and dusty shelves this could be down to the lights not working correctly, but no excuses this room is to be avoided to dark obscured windows. If it was not for Sharon taking charge the weekend would have been a disaster but all turned out well, thank you Sharon you rescued our Weekend.
Bad planning.
Excellent check in friendly staff. Comfortable room. Noise at night from Main Street not good. Breakfast on Sunday morning , order taken around 9.30, after a wait we were told no ingredients left for Scottish breakfasts that we ordered. Found that unacceptable , hotel must have known how many people were booked in for breakfast. Breakfast served until 11am on Sunday further two couples behind us .
Great hotel i the centre of the city
Fabulous stay in this hotel with bags of character.
Great location in the centre of Glasgow. Wonderful big room with great character. Also the preserved old-fashioned lift. However bathroom needed maintenance. Toilet flush got stuck and required attention. Was fixed temporarily but will break again. Basin cracked and plug broken. Unable to dine in on a Monday, restaurant closed. Advertised a new cocktail menu, unable to try that as staff were stock taking.
Great choice
Lovely hotel- really friendly and helpful staff, great location
Great stay
Such a nice hotel, rooms are lovely. Breakfast is delicious. Staff are friendly and helpful. Stayed with a young baby and they made it very easy. Would recommend.
Would highly recommend
Excellent stay thanks
Great Hotel & Location
Stayed 1 night 28/12/23. Lovely old building & room was very tastefully decorated in keeping with building. Breakfast was great quality & staff friendly. Great central location, would stay again.
Unique building, tastefully decorated rooms, in an excellent location.
Perfect
Lovely old building in the heart of Glasgow Centre. Staff were great, very friendly, efficient and helpful. Excellent table service breakfast in hotel restaurant. Room was perfect, very comfortable, quite large and with beautiful stained glass window. Really happy that I stayed here and will likely stay again next time in Glasgow.
My stay was so relaxing room was fantastic loads of room bed was massive brilliant room for a brilliant price. Thank you
Beautiful

Art deco hotel in the centre of Glasgow
Overall the hotel was everything i had hoped for in terms of decor and location. Just a couple of small things let the place down, being that we arrived at 3.45pm (check in was 3pm onwards) to find our room was not ready. Also the extractor fan in the bathroom was extremely noisy. Despite these couple of gripes we would definitely stay again.
Don't overpay here!
Hmm....really not sure it was worth £150 a night! Lovely old building but the rooms are very dated and the facilities are not great, for example no plug by one of the beds which is poor for a modern hotel. Sink taps were barely discernible which one was which, and water pressure was very poor. Lift also out of order. Beds were admittedly comfy and the size of room was acceptable but not for that price. Should have stayed at the Hampton next door and we would have got breakfast included. Disappointed and feel like we were ripped off a bit to be honest.
Needs some renewal works. Lovely staff
The AC machine in the room was incredibly noisy and it turned on automatically even after being turned off. Bathroom was quite dated. Bed mattress felt too soft. The staff were nice though and there was a good a la carte breakfast

We were given an up grade and were blown away by the size and luxury of the room.
