A Little Gem
Very special place in the grounds of an interesting Chinese Temple which can get rather busy. It is on a beach mainly used by locals with small fishing boats but great for swimming at the far end. There are many eateries and a Tesco nearby. Comfortable, clean and friendly. The more than adequate set breakfast of fried eggs, sausages, slices of meat, baked beans and toast was served in the small dining area enabling conversation with other guests. The only thing that disturbed me was the lack of view from our room. The windows had wooden shutters permanently closed from the outside apparently to keep out the mosquitoes. As we were only there for two nights and were out most of the day this was not a huge problem and It certainly won’t put me off staying there again. I recommend the 8 Boutique to anyone who wants a good place to stay which is just that little bit different.
Simple, with great service, and close to the ocean. There is only a parking lot and a bit of beach between the hotel and the water.
It doesn't look like much on the outside (much better to look away from the building towards the open sea!), but the room is nice and spacious. Not all of the windows seal up completely, but the a/c kept the room comfortable. The shower worked great. I wished there had been a small refrigerator in the room, but there was one downstairs in the office/breakfast area. I would stay here again if I needed a budget option in this convenient location!
Above a Chinese Buddhist temple. Next to a cute beach. But that is ruined by evening crowds and nasty dogs on beach in the morning. Decent air conditioning but must be left on at all times to get decent temperature. Good breakfast.
The hotel should provide free parking to the guess instead of charge for the parking.
Solo Trip
Nice clean and spacious room. Breakfast was served every morning. Freshly cooked only after u went to the hotel lobby area.
Nice Stay
Only problem - wifi at lobby is good In the room - was tough to derect...others is goid
Quite nice
Comfortable hotel by the sea
The owner was really friendly as well as the workers. The room was comfortable and it is exactly like the pictures. With the price given, it has exceeded the expectation. Although the heater has a bit of problem, otherwise it is all good and the TV has Astro. Parking wise is a bit of a nightmare since it is closed to the tourist attraction, but the parking fees only paid once and it will all be good. Love the memories and the time spent in the hotel, hope there is next time.
It was a good hotel. It is close to beach. Good services. Thanks
Clean big rooms fantastic ocean views Good bus service to city Great night market on main road The manager is friendly and knowlegable Chinese temple and Avatar garden add interest
the water heater need 3-4 minutes only can feel hot
Big failure!!!
Very poor! Smokey, noisy room. (Barking dogs in the night, Hotel owner also yelling around bedtime,) Ppwer outage. TV set not operational. Booked a room with breakfast for two ppl, but hotel owner refused to give another slice of toast. Check-in desastrous. Confusion over durance of stay, guest name and passport numbers. Seem to understand 5% of English. Supervised during breakfast the action of the guests, just as uf he wanted to restrict the consumption of tea and coffee. Never, ever again!!!
Located next to a Chinese Temple fronting beach
Couldn't believe my eye when I saw the staircase and location inside village area with no lift and amenities
weekend off trip
The hotel is super close to the beach, much closer than what I've expected. The hotel offered us a spacious room with a bath tub that is big enough for an average Asian guy to take a comfortable bath. The down side of the the hotel is the Indonesian guy works there does't speak much English.
An ideal place to rest
Helpful and friendly hotel staff. Very pleasant and spacious room for a modern look hotel. Room is very well maintained and clean. Though the bedding is not as premium but I did had a good sleep. Very safe place. Minimal parking fees but its okay. No big deal. Could visit the Secret Garden day and night. Breakfast was really good. Fresh from the stove. Hope the hotel owner could expand upper floors in the future. Better view from higher floor. Really nice to see the sea
Gem in Penang
Great value and extremely kind & helpful owner. Right beside multiple temples, including one that has a popular light display at night. Also next to a nice crab restaurant that gets quite crowded.
Nice hotel with nice sea view.
It was a excellent & memorable trip for both of us. Thanks to Expedia. We really enjoyed the every moment in Penang.
Isolated no elevator and rooms on second floor.
Very isolated. Staff not friendly at all. Very isolated . No telephone in the room. No reception after 9.00 pm. Reception, kitchen, and breakfast room all together in one cramped place.
Nice hotel footsteps to the sea
Beautiful beach right outside your doorstep, great seafood restaurant and a chinese temple next door makes this hotel a unique and memorable experience. Its a more quiet and a more beautiful alternative to a hotel in the heart of town. Only a 10 - 15 minute drive into the popular tourist attractions, the location is ideal and you can still get around quite easily. A simple breakfast and coffee are included.
overall, inside the room is ok, but not suit for muslim bcause there are many dog in front of hotel.
Good Deal!
Comfortable stay with minimum spent! Worthy! Amazing view near to the beach. Nice and cozy room. Good hospitality. Safe environment! Located in the Chinese Temple compound area, right next to the temple. (This was shocking) But the room and overall hotel was a perfect bargain! Go for it!!
good place to stay!
The rooms is very nice for this price, very worth it!
no wi fi, very very ugly old hotel
no wi fi, very very ugly old hotel, beware of many lies told by owner about wi fi, its non existant and an ongoing problem the staff told me...
GOOD
BE BACK!
Ok stay
Hard to find at first, down an alleyway. Located beside a temple and a small beach/harbour. No fridge. TV didn't work. Free coffee and water though.
nice hotel close to hawker center
parking spaces must request as it's near a famous seafood stall and will parked on the boutique
room is ok. but a little bit scary for muslim people because its temple area.
They may prepare a for clear sand so the room will not feel dirty. We can watch TV because TV seem like did not connect to AStro.
Enjoyed the stay except for a short time non electricity moment on the first day... Otherwise nice...
Super clean n worth the money
Very clean room....n facilities ...
Tv no other channel. Just local channel...
Good price with good facilities & seaview
The price is decent with good facilities, sea view. Nearby is a restaurant sell reasonable & tasty grilled crabs and prawns. I like the place just make sure you have your own transport because the public transport is not so convenient here. I have a noisy neighbor but luckily they wasn't noisy after 12am
clean n large room
It was a pleasant stay with large room area, quiet surrounding at nite. But not very nice beach view as we have a difficult moment to dealt with dogs which lazing around there. Very good for couple who really wanted a good sleep with minimal price as there is no swimming pool, no attractions, no need to rush for breakfast, just enjoy yr moments there.
Good for money!
The hotel is very nice and comfortable. The view from the hotel is very calm and peaceful.
U get what u paid
Located right next to chinese temple. Hard to get car park at night.clean room but no air con remote control
Cosy by the sea
It's a nice quaint hotel by the seaside. You definitely get what you pay for with clean facilities and comfy room. The only snag perhaps is the temple being in close proximity, which means the ash from joss sticks can be overwhelming ... my car was blanketed following a prayer session. The prayers and temple sounds are fine, though, and the people are friendly, too.
Clean room and new
Very new and clean, staff were accommodating to ensure I have pleasant stay. It was okay except be prepared of its location and the surroundings in which underdeveloped for a boutique hotel label.
Unexpected Hotel Stay
The hotel was an unexpected one. After entering the room we were amazed with spacious and clean room however the location of the hotel, the lack of tv channels and the stray dogs almost everywhere must have got our moods turned off. Overall, we are still happy of the rooms.
Excellent room, bad totally bad reception staff
A bid weird location inside a Chinese temple. The room was very nice, very clean, and very new. Very good taste with the decoration... Unfortunately the staff at reception didn't care about us. No internet? Maybe tomorrow... No Tv channels? Later we will see what we can do. After one week, nothing fixed.
good
clean and comfortable room
not near to town
disapponting i was imagine the hotel is near to town owever its area is surrounding with small village and temple.
Its not suitable for muslim because nearby temple
Normal experience. A hotel location give me surprise because nearby temple..
Noisy dogs
The room looks nice, but the bed is dirty. There were around 10 dogs right below the hotel, and the barking goes on throughout the whole night.
Seaview
Overal 80% ok. Hotel is beside temple but not a problem. Can chill at the seaside. Theres a big rocks for u to sit there.
simple and beautiful
A serene place very close to beach. Drive from here to batu ferringhi is a delight. Good and clean interiors.
Reasonable price hotel for a clean bed
Hotel is okay, it is in a residential neighborhood. Can be difficult to find.
The hotel is located inside the temple area
I was surprised the hotel is located inside the temple area. I decided not to stay though already paid for it.Should stated the hotel is sharing with the temple.
Reasonable Pricing
Great location if you are a seafood & beach lover. Just right below the hotel, there is a famous seaside seafood restaurant. You can also take a stroll along the beach. Recommended for those with cars only as it's not within walking distance to Georgetown or Gurney area. However, it's somehow in the middle between north and center part of the island which makes it convenient to go anywhere. eg. Batu Ferringi, Gurney Drive, Georgetown.
Dirty environment, not able to get extra hand towel from hotel, location is far from George Town, can’t get Chinese breakfast from nearby places, very disappointed with the hotel And there is no fridge in the room to store drinks
